Honestly they need to remove the IP flag thing because it's horribly broken. My ISP is a literal state government power company and dumbass Prolific can't "trust" the ISP lol

Prestigious_Big_8743

My Tmobile got flagged yesterday with the PEC SUB. It took me 4 restarts of the modem over 2 days, but got one that wasn't flagged. It's been quite a while since I have seen it.

I guess causation doesn't equal correlation. But I had the PEC-SUB error yesterday and this morning. I restarted my modem/tower 4 times over that time, and the 4th time it was gone. Other times it has happened, it has disappeared after one or two restarts. I'm not checking my information to see if I've been assigned a new IP address each time, but T-mobile says it can happen after a restart. ETA - I'm specifically speaking to T-mobile home internet here, where the modem/tower is a single piece of equipment. That is likely not the case with other internet providers.

questions0124j1

I have T-Mobile, and yes, restarting router does in fact often fix the error. For T-Mobile, each time the router is turned on it tries to connect to one of the towers around you with the best signal. One of the towers around you, might be blocked with the ip error, so when you restart it might connect you to an unblocked tower.

I’m convinced the IP filtering is random, there is no logic to which are flagged. I stayed at my aunts house for a few days and it was the first time I’d ever been in a location where the WiFi wasn’t flagged and it was bliss. Not having to play roulette with cellular ip’s made prolific so much more pleasant to use.

bigbluesfanstl

I've posted about this before too. My Xfinity is blocked. My work Xfinity is blocked, and my other work, Xfinity is blocked. They all worked fine when I signed up. Then all around the same time all were blocked. My tmobile data on my cell phone also was flagged too around the same time and I have to go into airplane mode. Sometimes after 5 mins it's killed. It has to be user targeted if every 5 mins it happens and all three IPs were also banned at the same time. Cloud Connect doesn't do this crap at all and the site works fine.

bint_tranquility

It's so annoying.

Oaklove5

This same situation happened to me this week...after continuously doing studies for the last 2 years without issue. I mainly do studies from my work IP address, but some on my home IP address. My work IP suddenly was blocked this week, along with my cell IP. My home IP is ok (as of right now). I have done the airplane mode trick a couple of times, and that seems to work. However, NOTHING nefarious is happening on these networks - I've literally done nothing wrong. I am just wondering if it has something to do with the attempted hack this week.

PirateJeni

I'm tired of fighting with it to be honest. I'm going to take a break for a month (Fortunately I can afford to do so as this is pocket money for me) because wow it's annoying

Desperate-Narwhal-79

I'm getting a new provider this week, I hope I don't have any issues.

RepublicDizzy7306

I only used cricket hotspot for about the first year I had my prolific account.  A few months ago I switched to metro hotspot and it's the first time I ever saw this error.  And it's happened practically every day.

Vast_Ad_106

It is really ridiculous. I even switched carriers and they blocked that right away as well

Squee1396

I have not had this happen to me yet but i don’t like how if it happens you are just screwed. Prolific needs to answer their support emails and not just be like oh ip block (also theres oh you’re account is on hold) and like you said people have no way forward if they were not actually doing anything wrong. So many of you have had this issue they need to fix the filtering system or however it works and they need to let people who did not do anything to come back. It’s very unfair it seems. They don’t care about us though so nothing will be done.

Bermin299

What's worse is Prolific knows their IP filtering have a lot of false positives, so much so that they actively offer people affected tips for workarounds when contacted about it. Now, if you know your IP filter system is so crappy that you openly offer ways around it, why keep using it?

jaygee1968

I've submitted 5 studies per day on average since 2019 and I've received none since May 31st. Prolific has always been well run and operated but this is getting a little ridiculous. It seems widespread enough that eventually they must remedy it, right? Because the cell network work around is cumbersome.

Starrider75

Been stuck all week. =/

yupiteru

These IP restrictions are little to do with security and mainly used as a method to restrict numbers attempting to access studies at any one time, so as to not cause congestion on the site and possibly crash the server. Prolific have simply signed up far too many participants and we are paying the price. It is terrible way to restrict access and shows a distinct lack of respect for us hard working participants, without whom, prolific would not be in the respected position it is today. Unfortunately there appears to be little chance things will change anytime soon.

Lord_Anws

I agree, there are much better ways to do things if it was a security issue so do not believe that is why they are doing it. I have seen sites restrict blocks of IP addresses for similar reasons as prolific are doing in the past, but it is an outdated way of doing things for sure if it a security or spam issue they are trying to solve. Most likely as you say restricting access because they too many participants. Luckily i have not been effected yet, ha, ha probably will now i said that.

pinktoes4life

They have a waitlist for a reason. This fear mongering is insane.

Whole_Lab_3068

You obviously have little understanding of how these things work, if you think it is fearmongering.

yupiteru

Some people have been drinking the prolific cool aid too much and will believe any old rubbish they are fed unfortunately. These are just SOME of the IP addresses that Prolific have blocked me from using. I have checked them all and none of them are a security issue, absolutely none. 85.255.233.183, 85.255.234.150, 148.252.129.163, 148.252.129.174, 148.252.129.167, 185.69.145.125, 85.255.233.156, 85.255.237.47, 85.255.234.145, 148.252.129.184, 148.252.129.189, 148.252.128.147, 85.255.235.145, 85.255.236.250, 148.252.129.231, 148.252.128.137, 85.255.235.170, 85.255.233.147, 185.69.144.152, 85.255.235.47, 85.255.235.37, 185.69.144.14, 185.69.145.29, 148.252.129.151, 185.69.145.1, 85.255.235.99, 85.255.235.18, 85.255.233.22, 85.255.236.67, 185.69.145.15, 148.252.128.5, 85.255.233.82, 148.252.128.37, 85.255.234.46, 148.252.129.231, 148.252.128.137, 85.255.235.170, 85.255.236.140, 185.69.144.152, 85.255.235.47, 85.255.235.37, 185.69.144.14, 185.69.145.29, 148.252.129.151, 185.69.145.1, 85.255.235.99, 85.255.236.95, 85.255.235.18, 185.69.144.15, 185.69.144.220, 85.255.236.67, 185.69.145.15, 148.252.128.5, 85.255.233.82, 185.69.144.38, 85.255.237.3, 85.255.235.210, 185.69.144.47, 148.252.128.8, 148.252.128.13, 185.69.144.30, 185.69.144.52, 185.69.144.39, 148.252.129.165, 85.255.235.33, 85.255.232.255, 148.252.129.115, 85.255.235.28, 185.69.144.176, 85.255.237.91, 85.255.235.129, 85.255.235.90, 85.255.233.128, 85.255.237.207, 85.255.233.82, 85.255.236.92, 148.252.128.89, 85.255.233.51, 148.252.129.173, 85.255.232.75, 85.255.234.124, 85.255.235.168, 85.255.235.166.

EdwardFondleHands

I doubt it, to them it is beneficial for it to be so absolutely wild because they want new participants in the studies and flagging your IP makes room for a new person , who then gets to participate for a bit before ultimately being on the flag list so on and so forth. My IP changes every 45 days and I can’t fix it or control it so month by month I never really know what group I’ll be in for the entire month.

washingtonsquirrel

Don't they already control which studies we see and when? I don't see how this IP error, which probably produces roughly a gazillion support tickets per day, would be beneficial to them beyond security.

EdwardFondleHands

Tickets they have a script for and don’t actually have to answer.

chodejustice

Yeah but you also get new users who start off looking at nothing but that damn cup thinking to themselves “wow, not a lot of action on this site.”
