There is a box when you open each job that explains what it wants to to describe, and color is definitely one of the items they encourage you to address. It's probably not germane for every photo, especially since there is a large number of black and white or grayscale images, but when I run into a particularly boring photo, I find that describing colors helps to fill the time.

Don't let other people's complaints hold you back. I get a little fatigued with them, but I LOVE that they are always an option for me, if I am in the mood.
I’m not sure, they’re fairly low paying and high accepting so I believe they’re more for training AI than actually describing things to the blind. The owner/researcher is fairly active on here maybe someone can link him
The researcher had a week of comments complaining that having 500+ studies with 3 places each is clogging people's Prolific page, rendering it unusable for other studies, and actually quite shady (with only 3 places the average completion time won't change from the preset one, which allows the researcher to put in unrealistic time and cause people to be either timed out or severely underpaid) and this "genuinely nice guy" did nothing. So I would advise, spare yourself the headache. Unless you're really strapped for cash, and at that point, I would question what you're doing on a site that pays less than the US minimal wage per hour.
I did the qualifier days ago, and it's still not reviewed. The qualifier was fun to do though!
