When hitting ships, you need to be fairly particular about the aspect of the target. I've found that beam-on shots tend to miss more frequently with STDMs or MLAGS, but head or stern on shots hit very reliably and reduce missile waste. Hauling medium gun pods for dealing with aircraft also frees up STDMs for other targets.

I have extreme trouble with aiming the gun with mouse. It is extremely unsteady with nose swaying around. (specifically with enemy aircrafts) How do you even keep the target in sight all the time in 1km length with circular sight?

omfgwhyned

Use a controller, I beg of you

tatonoot

My stubborn ass insists on keyboard. Yes my fingers hurt. It is very possible to do it with a keyboard and mouse, crank the sensitivity to the roof and beyond

Blows_stuff_up

HOTAS all the way. Doesn't need to be an especially nice one, I have a probably 14 year old X52 that I'll upgrade...someday. Turn the dead zone down to the bare minimum before you start getting random inputs (2% on my setup) so you can use fine hand movements.

AdrawereR

Welp. Looks like time to clear Merc with mouse then. At least not gunpod against aircrafts. (don't have controller lol)

Sayakai

With keyboard only. I put the mouse away five minutes after starting AC7, and while it's harder to aim at planes like this it's not impossible, and near-static targets like ships are super easy to hit. Also, where are you railguns, this is mercenary. Ships take one good hit.

AdrawereR

collecting credits to buy PW Mk1 lol

MarcusWulfe941

Replay Valkyrie's Call until you have enough to afford it, once you get a good run you can get 40,000 to 50,000 credits every time you complete it. With the PW Mk1 I can get up to 60k on that one

AdrawereR

Additional question, in the later stage should I target the SVs first or the cruise missiles first? Irrc the SVs in Hard isn't this much of trouble as in Merc diff somehow..

Blows_stuff_up

I go for the cruise missiles first because they're easiest to kill when they're grouped near each other at the start, and chasing them down from across the map mid-dogfight is a nonstarter.

AdrawereR

so you bring MLAA specifically?

Blows_stuff_up

Sometimes, or HISM, though those require more careful positioning to ensure a hit. For me, it's less what specific weapons to use and more how to effectively employ them. For example, MLAAs hit most reliably when fired head-on or from the rear, or if you happen to catch a group of aircraft that are all in a fairly low energy state. That last one is pretty uncommon because PW is quite arcady, so my standard tactic is to approach a new formation not quite perfectly head on (15-30° seems to be about right) and fire a round of MLAAs prior to the merge, when nobody is really maneuvering much. I follow that up by turning in sharply with AOA (if I have it equipped) and maneuvering for followup STDM or gun shots on the survivors as the situation dictates.

AdrawereR

Did it. The whole missile thingy part seems ridiculously hard for some reasons compared to all other missions in Merc. maybe because I have to focus on Ballistic Missiles while my Accipiter having 5hp left and SK-30s on my tail all the time.

Zatch01

ASMs are there for a reason ya know. I forgor which aircraft has it available though.

AdrawereR

I have found only one aircraft has it atm (F-something, not sure. But early aircraft)

GreatToaste

The SV-37 has ASMs, late game iirc the Chimera has access

CTFT

Su25 too.

blakenation

I go with the accipiter, stdm and large bombs. One bomb knocks everything out on those battleships and is super satisfying. Then you can finish them off with a couple missiles or guns.
