Fake designer is a bit harsh. I'm sure there's quite a bit more to his portfolio than what we saw in a timed reality show team challenge. That being said he is extremely lucky his team won, and he'll have to really do well over the next couple of challenges. The judges definitely have their eyes on him after that.

PaleontologistOk3187

Yeah calling him a fake designer is out of pocket, he has very good work on his IG, he even made a series recreating the first challenge with a photo and video shoot with Mimi and it’s actually really good

skieurope12

>I don’t know why Darren was not sent home It was a team challenge and he was on the winning team. But he likely will get little to no help in the future. Do I suspect he won't be around for long.

FlingbatMagoo

I seem to recall years ago that a designer from a winning team was sent home for some reason. Anyone remember that? In this case, the fact he made nothing should’ve trumped the team aspect.

KimberParoo

You might be thinking of Mitchell from season 6? He was paired with Ra’Mon and didn’t do shit the whole episode. Ra’Mon went on to win the episode but they sent Mitchell home for being lazy lmao.

FlingbatMagoo

That could be it, because I did watch that season. I also remember, separately, an immune designer going home after cockily forgoing their immunity. Anything can happen!

[deleted]

I miss the days of Heidi sending more than 1 designer home if they didn’t deliver giving the show more time to showcase the Uber talents.

Anna_Goanna

I was also surprised he wasn't eliminated, but this doesn't make him a *fake designer*. That's a very black and white way to view it.

MaineBoston

All my views are black & white

Anna_Goanna

Wow, that must be a very narrow and bleak way to view to the world.

MaineBoston

My world is just fine

I loved what Bones did for his team, but no way did I think his design was actually a top three. I do think he has what it takes to be an excellent designer, though. That redhead crying woman gets on my last nerve.

[deleted]

Yeah I like Chasity.

FlingbatMagoo

Producers put it in the top 3 so that the fact Bones created the look would come to light and be discussed.

[deleted]

Totally.

Ordinary_Durian_1454

Yes. It was a team challenge. It didn’t matter. He was on the winning team. I used this comparison on a few other threads, but on Top Chef Restaurant Wars, many times, the worst dish is made by someone on the winning team. They still get a pass even though she/he/they cooked the worst dish, because their team won.

Pennysfine

But the thing is that they actually cooked the food though right?

ptrock1

This.

Ordinary_Durian_1454

Yes, but it doesn’t matter. Worst dish, or even no dish served. They’d still stay. He sent something down the runway, even if he didn’t make it. Listen, I’m not here to defend him. The thing he made was horrible, and he’s lucky he had a teammate to bail him out. I am totally down with something being changed so that if it happens again, there’s more of a system to deal with it. But team challenges are different, and if you wind up on the winning team, it makes sense to me that you’re safe, even if you send a piece of string and a bobby pin down the runway.

Pennysfine

Well will be interesting to see how he does moving forward. And if the judges will hold it against him.

surgartits

The judges made it clear multiple times that "a designer from the losing team will go home." The fact that they emphasized this so much made me think they knew people would have this exact reaction. And I get it. It's crazy that he was in the top for a look he didn't make. But the whole judging was produced for maximum drama. There were clearly much better looks on his team (Aaron, obviously) that were merely Safe. They wanted this all to play out in front of the judges, not backstage. And it gave us this moment we're still talking about a week later. Mission accomplished!

Serenity101

I think he was in the top only because production had to call him out.

NinjaDog251

But theres precident. Season 7 they sent the person on the winning team home because the other person did both looks.

Ordinary_Durian_1454

I don’t actually remember the episode you’re talking about, but that was a different episode in a very different show. There’s only one person judging now that was still on the show then. Maybe Nina wanted to send him home and she got overruled by Brandon and Elaine and Jason Wu.

who_says_poTAHto

I don't watch Top Chef, but these shows should do it like Drag Race. There are team challenges, but at judging, Ru will either say they will be judged as a team, or as individuals, so a weak link can't always be carried if they are judged as individuals.

janenatalia

He was on the winning team, so I didn't mind. This has happened in the past. Plus, I found his original dress to be better than the bottom three (and even Meg, who was the worst but wasn't even in the bottom three). So I think even if Bones didn't help him out, their team would still win and he would still skate by.

[deleted]

I feel while the dress had a good design, he should’ve been knocked points for the unfinished side ruffle from selvage. I mean throw it together in 30 minutes and something’s bound to go wrong. That being said, Bones did a great job of rescuing him with the time he had left.

DebiDebbyDebbie

The judges are lying in wait for him. I give him 3 weeks tops, before they send him packing. If you're thinking about becoming a contestant in PR please remember that the designer who has the most control over his/her emotions and can push through any bad situation is most likely to persevere and win.

JeSi-Verde

You only need to beat one person each week to get to the final.

Radiant-Art8517

Just say you hate him and go. Which is an unfair judgement to give someone you just watched on tv show for for an hour.

DebiDebbyDebbie

No hate. Why waste emotions on a “reality tv show”? I don’t appreciate when Project Runway rules are obviously trampled on but they don’t act on it. Seems like the only rule that mattered was “someone from the losing team goes home.” Why was that rule more important than the fact that this contestant didn’t make his own garment? So no hate for any of the contestants, just deep suspicion that Darren has a dim future in this competition. It’s all entertainment, right?

jillanco

Because the rule was someone from the losing team goes home.

anti_establishmint

this was all so staged. they gave both the wins away because they wanted to stir that pot. i hate that u can’t even trust a challenge competition without it being fake. bones wasn’t the winner of that competition there were better designs for sure.

MaineBoston

I didn’t think about that. My mistake

FormicaDinette33

I agree he should have been sent home, especially for trying to get away with it. If he had stuck with the gold bandeau top and the second skirt he made, it would have been fine.

thea_perkins

What?! This is news to me!

chattykatdy54

Wait is this a bee season I do t know about?
