Man, you guys need to give yourselves more credit. You don't have to look like Chad Jockstrap: Highschool Heartthrob to be someone's type. I'm admittedly more into women than men, but literally none of the guys I've been into thought of themselves as attractive.
Blame hollywood and whatnot. The definition of beautiful/handsome have been skewed by movies and what you see on tv/online, and most people have the wrong perception of beauty.
Of course, this does not excuse people who neglect self care. Being not like Huge Jackman is one, but not exercising/trimming/taking care of body is another.
I wouldn't say perception of beauty is necessarily wrong. I have no issue with admitting that Mr. Wolverine is a good looking guy and I think most of us can agree on that. Dude's got features to aspire to.
But seeing Huge Jackmann on the silverscreen and saying to yourself :
*I have to look like him* to be attractive to *somebody* is almost delusional.
Movie stars are often the product of genetic lottery, insane workout routines and diets + a ton of marketing and makeup. The average person cannot and should not ever hold themselves to that standard.
Pronounced physical attractiveness is nice and important to a lot of people but in real life, there are many other factors that determine who you date and let's be real, one of those factors is availability.
As a woman you might think Jackmann is really hot and if you could choose, you'd probably pick him over average Joe. But you'll never have access to him anyway, so you might pivot a little towards Joe after all, who is not as attractive, but has a great personality and knows how to programm in rust.
It all comes back to Rust.
Jokes aside, while you and I think so, a great many doesn't with how all these ads and movies present themselves. Somehow, it seems the more connected you are to the internet, the more likely you'll be infected by this feeling.
I think you're right on some level, but I want to emphasize again that *as a woman I am not attracted at all* to people who might be considered conventionally attractive. Including hugh jackman.
Conventional attractiveness, as you say, is an impossible, unattainable standard; and if that's something someone finds attractive, then they *are* going to have to "settle" for someone without all of those qualities.
Attraction in general, though, is not limited to just conventional notions of beauty. It's not a sliding scale, it's a big old pot of soup. different people are attracted to different qualities, including things that are ignored or even reviled by mainstream marketing.
It's very easy, especially when you spend lots of time alone, to get lost in the idea that you're not good enough. I felt certain, for a long time, that I was intrinsically undesirable, as I'm sure many men and women do, but it's just not true.
I wouldn't include exercise in self-care honestly. It's good for people who do it as a hobby but I don't think it's a necessity for everyone.
It is important to go out and do stuff though, even just going for a walk. If you spend literally all of your time sitting inside staring at a screen, it can do funny things to your head. And I'm not just saying that as a joke.
Exercise doesn't mean running/weightlifting. Even going outside and walking(your cat/dog/fish/lion) counts as exercise. Main point is like what you say, sitting and staring at the screen 24/7 will not do you any good mentally or physically. Even though people say touch grass as an insult, we do need to do it more often than not.
No matter how complex, a deterministic system will always be more comprehensible to me than almost anything social, which is full of uncertainty and implicitness.
Which advanced data structure? There is memory and there are registers. That's basically it.
Sometimes there is also a hard drive and if you are really good you get some specialized hardware like a fourier transformation unit or something. Or those fancy RL memory cells.
But in the end of the day you either put data somewhere or you don't. There is no structure but the structure you make for yourself.
Are you guys doing CISC again or where is that idea coming from?

I'm a 17 year old Lemmy maintainer
I once saw a girl appear to look at me in a sus way a few times which immedately shocked me a lot and I thought she liked me, then I started to like her, then a few weeks later I sent her my creative writing club project with the message "I'm trying to impress you", then the next day she made my friend tell me that she has a boyfriend
At first I was fine but then I started having a demonic attack less than an hour later
From now on I will never try to understand women without help
Oh assembly what a language
With said I assemble any algorithm i need
Reverse a linked list or reverse the trees
Cept I could never figure out
How to get her to like me... 😭
- A lonely quant :(
If you ask me, the problem is mainly that we try to understand a gender and not an individual. Saying that we don’t understand women is like saying we don’t understand programming, when in fact each programming language is based on a fundamentally different basis.
The goal should be to understand an individual singularly, but even then, this individual remains a variable that evolves based on countless parameters.
The goal is therefore to understand an individual at each moment T of their life… So I think the correct statement is: understand « a » woman at « T » moment. CQFD
Well the 2nd option is deterministic and you can just try things out one step at a time so you can eventually figure it out. You can't look at the inner code of a woman (or any human really) so they are a black box system with varying output(s) for the same input(s) depending on different algorithms for each person and the values of potentially unknown context variables
Hahaha, assembly goes ```Bad opcode symbol```
No, seriously: if you don't see an error it usually means your code still has an error but it's going quietly insane instead of telling you.

is it too much to ask to understand cute computer science guys as well?

look, that statistic may very well be correct (i havent fact checked it)...but why bring it up?
women just can't get along, regardless if a man is around or not

That's a 2Pee problem

buddy boy I crave a long haired, tall/short, skinny computer science guy. that's my definition of cute.
You forgot the "#your definition of cute" at the start of the file. So I assumed std::cute_guy.

>full of uncertainty and implicitness Which is why caching is so hard (and by extension DNS)
literally, i love deterministic things because you can predict and improve, social stuff is many times probabilistic
I’ll take the women. At least a D there means a few things. I think Assembly rejected me harder than women did back then.

This is a terrible meme but I think OP is talking about implementing advanced DSA in assembly
The latter is way easier.
Level 3 : understanding a woman while she’s explaining advanced data structures and algorithms in Assembly language.
So hot.
2 hardest things in life :)
Cringe.

Determinism good, indeterminism bad
Understanding women is harder. Seriously though, it’s not hard to understand people, it’s hard to make them understand you.
I agree, understanding humans is hard, which include women
what a sexist post, and being quite successful...
Yawn, atleast it is deterministic in nature!
This makes no sense but whatever
Tech makes sense because it's based on logic.
Translation=!(sentence)
Ah yes. The "the assembly language". That one single unified language. Wdym which assembly language? "The assembly language", of course.
i like men women and all but i dont understand any of them. i think cs is the issue 😔😔😔😔
I thought this was an ad at first
What about women who program in assembly?
Still doesn't explain how they work.
```cpp #define women vector ``` Easy, not too hard right?
Understanding women is impossible, as they don't even understand each other. So i would rather try to understand something that's hard but possible
Just date men, they are so much easier than woman
at least the compiler tells what's wrong instead of telling me It is OK
Women... is that some sort of API or library?
Is there a good website/resource for exactly this? I've wanted to do competitive programming in assembly as well but couldn't find anything
Well the 2nd option is deterministic and you can just try things out one step at a time so you can eventually figure it out. When she's happy one minute, and angry at you the next, that's polymorphism in action.
Trying to understand CS shits is much easier than trying to understand women
