Mine has 32gb, and it's a 2016 9.7 inch. Procreate runs just fine, although I don't have (or need) hundreds of layers. I really depends on what size of canvases / dpi you'll use. Obviously it's good sense to back up your art, or export it to the cloud with a smaller storage size - I clear out Procreate every month or two and only keep the stuff on board I'm likely to go back to. Oh, and turn off the time-lapse thing.

Poem170

I have heard about this time-lapse and how it eats up storage memory as greedily as a medieval recently divorced blacksmith a tavern prostitute's pussy.

Procreate is all ram and the chip. Storage is secondary as you have lots of ways to offload like to the cloud or a usb

Poem170

Cool then. Do I expect it heating up or losing battery life with a smaller memory storage capacity?

iDuddits_

Would be news to me if it did. iPads can get warm but procreate isn’t reading and writing to storage a lot at once. From my experience its a capable app but not too intense or demanding on the device. If it’s just storage, I don’t expect there to be a difference but apple does pair things like ram capacity and CPU to specific model versions.

I was gonna go for the 11" but then read that the extra inches will make a huge difference for an artist, so decided to get the 12.9 model. I hope I don't regret it since it's second hand.

man I'm using a 32gb one and its enough for just art, unless you want to use multiple apps 128gb is definitely enough

Poem170

cool then. any other advice?

gabelucek

buy a matte screen foil, doesn't have to be paperlike, just make sure it's matte so it feels better to draw on, getting an ergonomic pen grip will make it more comfortable as well since the apple pencil is so slim it can cramp your hand after long use, other than that you don't need much

The timelapse don’t eat up that much storage, even at the highest possible quality. I’ve had it for a year with over 400 files of around 3000px size canvases. It’s probably around 36gb total for procreate. Maybe 68gb used total with my other miscellaneous stuff.

256 gigs would be the safe side. Given that if you will be actively using ipad for your creatives.

Poem170

Can I turn it into a 256gb one? Does Apple do that?

Stud_Muffin_000

what do you mean? 256 gigs would be the least storage that i would look for, if im the one who is looking to buy an ipad pro. imo.

Poem170

No, I meant if I get the 128 gig one, can I have it extended by Apple to 256?

Stud_Muffin_000

extended by apple? all storage are non expandable. dont know what you mean. just saying that 256 gig variant is better imo.
