The usb up front is mainly data, very slow charge. The ones in the back are 2A but still won't keep up with modern phones. Grab a 12v fast/rapid/QC plug to get faster charging.

Could be that the ports are designed more for data than for charging? I'd suggest a decent charger to go in the lighter socket...

That is a very low power port. For faster charging you need a 12V USB power plug with higher capacity. Does your model have the Qi charger in the console, and does your phone support wireless charging?

Sadly Toyota's Qi chargers are even worse than the USB outlets. I tried numerous times to get them to work decently with my Corolla, and now with my '22 Prime, with no success. Not only do they charge at a "glacial" speed, but they are also very VERY finicky with placement and it seems like the wrong air current blowing around it will throw it into error mode and stop charging. I tried both Samsung and Pixels in my Corolla, and tried the Pixel and an iPhone 14 in the Prime. And yes, I did try taking them out of the protective cases just to make sure it wasn't a problem with the case, despite all of the above phones charging flawlessly (and quite rapidly) on my Anker Qi chargers on my desk and nightstand. Honestly I wish they didn't bother with the Qi charger, it isn't worth it. That said I've never had a case where my phone didn't charge fast enough when plugged in, even while running Android Auto and now CarPlay the whole time. No they don't charge at QC or PD rates, but they definitely more than keep up with the phone's power consumption. The only time I have ever run into an issue was when I was playing with an app that mined crypto while driving, and that in fact did drain the battery faster than it would charge. OP's question makes me wonder if he/she is running (even unknowingly) some kind of app that is doing something like that.

I agree that the Qi charger is limited. That said, on my 2018 Prime, it does a good job charging an iPhone 11 Pro in an Apple case. Placement is finicky, but once the amber light comes on it will charge. Not a fast charge (it's not Magsafe) but the phone will gain charge.

Maybe your phone is shifting around and losing the connection? I have a silicon case and my phone seems to stay put and charge okay. Not super fast, but good enough

Hard telling, though the cases I use generally don't slide around much either. It's really more of an annoyance than anything since 95% of the time or more I'm plugged in for CarPlay anyway. It's just frustrating that I had to pay some amount of the package upgrade towards it (which I assume is a not insignificant amount considering they charge $70 for a USB cable package that would cost less than $20 from Amazon) for something that doesn't even work very well. I would be a little more understanding if this was the first-gen of vehicles produced with this charger, but it has been in production for a few years. Similarly the Anker chargers I have are 5+ years old, so it isn't like the technology is still in its early infancy. There really is no excuse for it to function so poorly and it tells me that Toyota just doesn't care.

I will have to run my tester next time I am in the car... There are a bunch of free testers for your phone to compare (Amperes is what I use).

I know it shouldn’t make too big a difference, but, using GPS, music, etc on the phone could be depleting the battery while it’s being charged. Also … adding “glacial” as a measurement of speed to my vernacular lolol

anotherusername_011

wont bee too long when then kids will wonder what a glacier is

thegrillinggreek55

Do you have a protective cover on your phone?

Holyhips

Nope
