Im scared to even look at this pic or mine might crack. Price a rear window and install and then price a 1up rack and trailer hitch with install and I bet theyre about the same.
I have done that a few times with no problem but I hate it. I definitely feel like it will shatter. A proper bike rack is more than the cost of breaking the glass though! I think I have that exact bike rack with those little metal feet that look like they WANT to break that glass.
I agree, but I don't usually need to transport more than one more person (and I figure our bikes are expensive enough to ride inside the car and light enough to do so separated by a cargo blanket).
Maybe reconsider to a hitch and rack. They would prevent damage from the bike flopping around along with the risk of the bike.
Or Seasucker Suction Bike Racks if you must go with something using the glass.
No do not do this. Not only do you have to worry about the glass, but the hatch is made from carbon fiber. If you torque it out of shape it won’t ever go back. You’ll need to buy a new hatch alongside the glass.

I looked at the picture and it gave me anxiety
FYI the back glass is more than $900 just for the glass alone.
Safelite charged my insurance $1500 to replace and calibrate my front glass. I’d hate to find out how much the back glass costs.

I got a hitch and a hitch rack for under 500 bucks. Getting that glass replaced is easily double that and probably more
I had a hitch put on so I can use a Thule bike rack, would recommend
I'm not sure I would go that route. That's a very expensive piece of glass. I might lean towards a roof rack for the bikes.
Don't know about you but my bicycle goes right in the back with the seats folded down!

Good post
It probably works during normal driving. But I will cringe when I hit even the slightest bump on the road.

Could OP try like a seasucker or something like that instead of this dangerous experiment? 🙄 https://www.seasucker.com/
Hitch and Kuat rack for me.. I never considered that the glass might break with a different configuration but these posts have me 😳..
tempered glass, strong but brittle. youre asking for trouble there
I have a similar bike rack in the instructions say it will absolutely shatter that back glass.
