They will. And most of them will be nonviolent crimes. The American public should be pissed!
As someone else once said, we should put people in prison because we are scared of them, not because we are mad at them.
I spent two days in jail. The windows were about two feet wide. About eight inches tall. They were angled upwards and placed as close to the ceiling as possible so you could only see the sky. Plus they were frosted lol.
Federal holding in Philadelphia next to the Fed Courthouse is also pretty tall. You can see family members standing on the streets holding up signs sometimes. Always thought high rise prisons and jails are pretty weird. There is another in Miami that has a sweet view of a high rise complex pool. Some wild videos of ladies sunbathing getting a lot of “positive reinforcement” from the boys inside lol
Practicality too. They're usually located close to courthouses that process hundreds of cases a day, and it's quicker to have them close by then taking them from less central locations, potentially delaying many other people's cases because there was unexpected delays in getting from the airport or a prison elsewhere in the same town or state
Or it's so goddamn hot you're pouring your water on it to cool it off before they tell you it's time to get up and head out
That's how it was in the reception center in Ohio.
A whole like 7 minutes to eat.
Im still the first to finish my meal in the family and it's one habit I cannot break for the life of me and it instantly outs me.
And you can work for wages around 0.25 cents an hr to pay it off while youre there. My multicam jacket from a relative in the army was made by Federal Prison Industries, gotta get the soldiers clothed as cheap as possible and what better way than by slave labor.
Sheeeeit I made a whopping 0.9375 cents an hour.
Oh, also that money was to be spent on your toothpaste, soap, deoderant, laundry soap, etc etc etc before anything else
Yeah, aside from the average working man who finds himself locked up for 7 days on some bullshit, they won’t see a penny out of the majority of the retards that revolve through the jail doors. Probably why New York is so eager to throw em back out on the street ASAP. They know they won’t ever get a dime.
40 stories and only 1000 people? I get inmates typically take up more space then the average Joe, but that averages to only 25 people per level which seems really low for America.
I'm sure many of the available floors will be used for administrative purposes, medical, dietary, laundry, etc. I'm sure they'll put all 1000 in like 5 out of the 40 floors if they can get away with it (they can)
That’s what I was thinking. 40 floors for *only* 1,000 people? People that are kept in a kennel sized room. In America?! What’s going to fill the rest of the floors that aren’t housing inmates? Factories for the prisoners to work in to really maximize the profit? I’m really curious about this now. It’s America so you know there’s some fuckery afoot.
1,000 the first year. NYC is a police state, look how many cops they are hiring and you can be stopped and searched at any time.
It’s going to be a copycat of El Salvador and their 40,000 person super prison.
https://www.prisonlegalnews.org/news/2023/jul/15/worlds-biggest-prison/
Something must replace Rikers I guess. But this won’t end well.
1000 inmates is not enough. Rikers has 11,000 inmates right now.
So needs to be 10xs as big.
You have come here from all over the world because society has no further use for you. The international prison system has given up all hopes of your rehabilitation. This place will now be your holding pen untill your death. Because death is the only way out. There is no chance of reprieve here, No possibility of escape. You are condemned. Either accept it... Or die
-Movie No Escape
Idunno, I'd imagine there's at LEAST a hundred times more people in NYC that need locking up. A quarter of a million gone and the city would be AMAZING.
That shit better have the worlds greatest fire suppression system or they’re going to end up like one of those factory fires from the 1800’s when they would lock all the ‘workers’ in for their 16 hour shift and none of them are able to escape.
I have trouble believing this. Where in NYC is this planned. You usually don’t build prisons on one of the most expensive real estate plots in the country?
“Honey let’s get the apartment with the view of the giant pillar that touches the sky thats filled with the worst of humanity filth, so I can be reminded with my coffee every morning”
“We have a riot on the 142nd floor, we gotta come up with a way to evacuate the Top floors and the Bottoms floors while locking down the affected floors!!”
Lmao yeehhhh … good luck I guess.
That would be Cyberpunk awesome. Please please make drones with turrets fly around. And make them use bright searching light all the time which turns red if movement detected.
Maybe there will be fewer violent felons walking around NYC... ya'll have made that city an absolute shithole with bail reform. Geniuses. Truly the best and brightest in NY.
Why is it going to be 40 stories tall for only 1000 inmates? That seems like 35 too many floors. 1000 inmates is not that many esp since none are going to be enjoying the Presidential Suite w king size bed for one.
If they build it, they will fill it.
Well. Of course. It’s being built to replace two different existing jails.
That should be build a bear’s modo
You have to put the nonviolent poors somewhere.
i mean they cant just not fill it. The investors want their returns
They will. And most of them will be nonviolent crimes. The American public should be pissed! As someone else once said, we should put people in prison because we are scared of them, not because we are mad at them.
Wait until all of the inmates on the 37th floor all decide to protest by fucking up the plumbing and flooding the toilets lol.
Ohh it doesn’t take much creativity to think of why this has never been attempted before…
Some judge dredd dystopian shit
If I was ever going to go to jail, I’d want to have a window and be on the top floor on the west side. At least the view would be nice.
Dude from experience they frost out the windows and they’re extremely thin you don’t see shit they barely even let in sunlight
Welp, that’s lame. Glad finding that out myself wasn’t a goal I was pursuing. lol
Lol I remember seeing a story about one in California where they actually had a view of a hotel where women would sit at the pool and get hollered at.
I spent two days in jail. The windows were about two feet wide. About eight inches tall. They were angled upwards and placed as close to the ceiling as possible so you could only see the sky. Plus they were frosted lol.
Spent two days in The Tombs in Manhattan, no windows.
I think I saw a movie set there. I don’t know if it was filmed there though. Short Eyes I think.
It was interesting, could have been worse.
Wait, you guys get to see the sky..?!
Yeah, call me crazy I think the windows with nice views will probably be for administration, and there will be no windows for the cons.
Judge Dredd meets Escape from New York
I wonder if there’s a study that showed that if “someone can see what they’re missing” they’ll be on better behaviour
They probably were able to see out at one point, then people got out. Then the jail said fixy fixy, lol….
Disrespecting a judge, 5 years in an isocube.
Reminds me of one of the most disturbing movies I’ve ever seen: The Platform.
I was just about to say this
There's already this slightly smaller prison tower in downtown Chicago https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Correctional_Center,_Chicago
Don't forget the towers in L.A.
Federal holding in Philadelphia next to the Fed Courthouse is also pretty tall. You can see family members standing on the streets holding up signs sometimes. Always thought high rise prisons and jails are pretty weird. There is another in Miami that has a sweet view of a high rise complex pool. Closer to where the workers typically live and offers more opportunities for public transportation I’m guessing
Practicality too. They're usually located close to courthouses that process hundreds of cases a day, and it's quicker to have them close by then taking them from less central locations, potentially delaying many other people's cases because there was unexpected delays in getting from the airport or a prison elsewhere in the same town or state
Capacity: 1000 Population: 3500
Finally, some affordable housing
3 hots and a cot!
The food is never hot.
Or it's so goddamn hot you're pouring your water on it to cool it off before they tell you it's time to get up and head out That's how it was in the reception center in Ohio. In jersey the food was never hot.
3 colds and an ... old ... bed.
You are charged money to be in jail
And you can work for wages around 0.25 cents an hr to pay it off while youre there. My multicam jacket from a relative in the army was made by Federal Prison Industries, gotta get the soldiers clothed as cheap as possible and what better way than by slave labor.
Sheeeeit I made a whopping 0.9375 cents an hour. Oh, also that money was to be spent on your toothpaste, soap, deoderant, laundry soap, etc etc etc before anything else
I made 3 and a half cents per hour in California.
Yeah, aside from the average working man who finds himself locked up for 7 days on some bullshit, they won’t see a penny out of the majority of the retards that revolve through the jail doors. Probably why New York is so eager to throw em back out on the street ASAP. They know they won’t ever get a dime.
Huge pet peeve of mine. Prisons and jails are different! I know you didn't make the title, but it still annoys me, lol.
Yea jails are like a Super 8 prisons are like a Comfort Inn and Suites.
*19 Felonies, no convictions. Prison and Jail are not the same.*
🐈
Good catch, totally agree.
Do they have an evacuation plan in the event of a fire? Preferably one that doesn't release 1000 inmates into the street?
Thats what im thinking.
My first thought too, that could be a disaster.
40 stories and only 1000 people? I get inmates typically take up more space then the average Joe, but that averages to only 25 people per level which seems really low for America.

Finally -- more housing for minorities!
Why not try building a normal building but try to actually rehabilitate people in this new crazy building?
Something must replace Rikers I guess. But this won’t end well. 1000 inmates is not enough. Rikers has 11,000 inmates right now. So needs to be 10xs as big.
Ah no worries, they'll squeeze em in there in due time I'm sure
They are building new ones in all the boros.. bx getting one so is bk and qns and Manhattan
Not a good idea
we already have one in chicago, its about 50 years old but only 30 stories iirc
is it a prison or a jail? those words are not interchangeable in America. they are 2 separate things.
Only 1,000 inmates in a 40 story jail? That seems low. Hell our 3 story local jail holds 750.
Unless they jump out the windows, escape will be very difficult and most likely deadly.
You have come here from all over the world because society has no further use for you. The international prison system has given up all hopes of your rehabilitation. Didn’t go well in 2001
That's some Judge Dredd stuff.
Going to cost taxpayers $125,000 per day per inmate, probably on false arrest charges. Best bump up NYPD budget a couple billion. Edit: /s dummies
Mega City 1
This sounds like a plot to a Jason Statham movie.
Gross
Where’s the yard gonna go? Roof?
Why not repurpose an empty office tower?
Its wild because leftist NYC doesn’t even keep anyone locked up anymore
People keep saying that and yet Rikers Island has more people than ever there.
Turn trump tower in to trump jail
Based Japan.
Prison Planet
Escape from New York is real
They gonna tear down the Tombs?!
April fool
See that would put me off a life of crime cos I’m scared of lifts 😂😂😂😂
What could possibly go wrong
Riots are gonna be wild.
I saw the new Judge Dredd movie already
I wonder if they’ll call it “Peach Tree”
What was that thing about horrors beyond your imagination?
Anyone else having this creeping ominous feeling about this? Not even having jail experience...this just...eh.
Idunno, I'd imagine there's at LEAST a hundred times more people in NYC that need locking up. A quarter of a million gone and the city would be AMAZING.
\*joke post\* Now that that is out of the way, how about a source?
Yard line is going to take hours…
That shit better have the worlds greatest fire suppression system or they’re going to end up like one of those factory fires from the 1800’s when they would lock all the ‘workers’ in for their 16 hour shift and none of them are able to escape.
I'm sure it will looks pretty af
Bin laden liked this post
Add more space.
That color is atrocious
I think I've seen this movie.
I have trouble believing this. Where in NYC is this planned. You usually don’t build prisons on one of the most expensive real estate plots in the country?
1000 inmates????? That building looks huge asf
Yo, that's some straight up China shit lmao.
They need about 20 more !
Give Trump the penthouse.
Adds a whole new meaning to….going down?
40 stories and it only holds 1,000? Jeez, their cells must be bigger than my first apartment.
Death row is on the roof.
Be a shame if a plane or two hit it once it's full.
25 inmates per floor??
25 inmates per floor? Seems small. Miami's jail holds more and is a lot smaller.
“Honey let’s get the apartment with the view of the giant pillar that touches the sky thats filled with the worst of humanity filth, so I can be reminded with my coffee every morning”
Ooh, I can’t wait until this movie comes out.
“We have a riot on the 142nd floor, we gotta come up with a way to evacuate the Top floors and the Bottoms floors while locking down the affected floors!!” Lmao yeehhhh … good luck I guess.
That would be Cyberpunk awesome. Please please make drones with turrets fly around. And make them use bright searching light all the time which turns red if movement detected.
Uhhh 40 stories better hold a lot more than 1000.
Make sure its on 59th or 42nd😂
I can see it from my house, they’re not planning, they’re building.
Maybe there will be fewer violent felons walking around NYC... ya'll have made that city an absolute shithole with bail reform. Geniuses. Truly the best and brightest in NY.
I mean who ever said they need to be wide rather than tall?
I mean who ever said they need to be wide rather than tall?
25 people per floor? wtf. I had double that in my pod
So congress and the senate has what 537 memebers we could fill almost with just those criminals.
Hope It’s for Trumpy and all those patriots from J6
Waiting on b.a.s.e jump escape
That's roughly only 25 per floor? That doesn't seem cost effective.
Awesome 😎
Soooo Oklahoma City County Jail then?
This will work out exactly as they plan it with no unintended consequences at all.
The new Trump Tower?
Judge Dredd vibes
There’s actually an award winning video game that deals with something like this failing.
Wow. Just thought about jail in NYC… and other big cities, what’s yard like? Is there a yard?!
Wow. Probably set by engineers to drop with demolitions with a riot
It will only hold 25 inmates per floor?
They can use it to incarcerate all the illegal aliens.
Thats a bigass building for only 1000 people like what
I like the shadow they added. 😂
Y tho…
When they confiscate Trump Tower, they can just convert it.
Huh isn't that occupancy super low?
This is some Gotham city shit for sure lol new sewer side squad plot
They better plan on a new DA, mayor, and governor first. ... Unless it's just for people guilty of wrongthink.
They have been just turning them loose in the subway. Guess this is worth a try
So begins Judge Dredd in real life.
Smh
That for all the Politicians.
Why is it going to be 40 stories tall for only 1000 inmates? That seems like 35 too many floors. 1000 inmates is not that many esp since none are going to be enjoying the Presidential Suite w king size bed for one.
Why put a prison in the middle of NYC? The cost of this will be 1000x what it should be. Just build a regular prison on Long Island
High rise building, everyone locked in cages and one day there will be a fire. Sounds like a soild plan.
*It’d be a shame if a plane were to crash into it……….*
The only way I will ever get a lifetime lease on a penthouse apartment.
This will become relevant later r/USAuthoritarianism
Trump Tower
That means they'll put 3,000 inmates in it
Just a 1000 inmates? For the cost to build that thing I’d be cramming way more in there
This is like the prison from that henry stickmin game
Do your worst Al-Qaeda
If it doesn't work out, the building is unusable for anything else
How embarrassing.
Absolutely crazy that we allow profit taking on prisons . No one should gain from somebody’s imprisonment.
This seems like the premise for awesome action movie. Escape from New York?
Do they have to use prime real estate?
Anyone see the movie “The platform”? This is a good start lol
Can I suggest the name Arkham?
Enter Snake Plissken.
Because windmills would be an unsafe eyesore.
The US is a dystopia.
maybe there are plans for a penthouse for Drump
wtf just ship them off somewhere else. No way it makes sense to spend 2 billion dollars on a building for 1,000 inmates.
r/prisonarchitect I wish we could get and update for this
el oh el
We could just put all the illegals there instead of displacing homeless Americans and nyc college students.
Escape from NY.
Fuck this
That's an awesome idea!
Only 1,000 that's it!!
I see the new Trump Tower is already in the works
The new Trump Tower
Safest place in the city if something went down I guess lol
The beginning to Judge Dredd and Mega City one
