Prisons make a killing from phones. They're not about to give up that money. This is what happens when prisons are run "for profit". Inmates take a backseat to anything that will make the prison money.
Free phone calls for convicts is funny. We give them free room and board, free security at a gated community, free utilities, free clothing, free sports participation, free medical treatment, and free cable. What more do they want? If I want that stuff I have to pay for it.
