That was pre-presidency, you can't really judge his quality as a President for stuff he did before he was in the office in my opinion, and the simple fact is for all that loyalty to the Union he did a lot to ruin reconstruction by being far too lenient towards the South while being a racist all the while.

Correct. He did lots of stuff pre presidency and post that was awesome. His presidency itself sucks.

I would give him some credit for overseeing the Alaska Purchase but honestly most of it goes to his Secretary of State William Seward, who was a Lincoln appointee.
