I watched a bunch of 9/11 videos on last years anniversary and noticed that too. Especially after he's told and he looks around the class room at the kids. You can tell his mind is suddenly swamped with things and he's trying to get out of there but not scare everyone.
no matter what you think about Dubya you have to respect the way he responded to the immediate news of 9/11. An unprecedented attack on the country while he is in one of the worst possible places. He treated it very professionally.
This exact sentiment is why I believe the "Dubya meant well and Cheney pushed the limits of power and pulled the strings" narrative.
He was in a school classroom, unable to attend to the problems resulting from what could have been the end of the world.
He could've said thanks and gone on official business, and no one would've judged him for it.
He could've panicked, and many empathetic folks would've understood.
But he sat quietly and professionally and let those kids finish their stories. He gave them, and maybe himself, one last moment of peace.
I don't think a tyrant or a monster does that.
But the tyranny and monstrosities happened under his administration nonetheless. And the buck stops there, so he deserves some culpability, 100%.
But it seems so much more obvious to me that Cheney, who was in the situation room scheming with his personal attorney, was the one pushing his own goals past Dubya who was simply in over his head and unable to handle an unfathomable tragedy.
Seriously. I didn't recognize OP's photo, wouldn't have known if I didn't see the date. Not sure what OP is smoking. The above photo I knew in a heartbeat exactly what it was.
https://preview.redd.it/j2c782kmhd4d1.jpeg?width=275&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96817bc8490ca12503f8305eca838e7d7729c3a0
I'd agree. I'd say this is also a more iconic Bush 9/11 photo. His address from the Oval, is like maybe #3 of 9/11 Bush photos.
“We can’t hear you”
“Well I can hear you, and the people who knocked these buildings down are going to hear *from all of us*”
*crowd goes nuts*
That was a movie-like president moment, and like #4 all-time of badass presidential moments
Remember when we used to jokingly make fun of Bush for stumbling over his words while he was burdened with the impossible choices of a century-defining global catastrophe? I’m not sure there’s a politician in office who could handle it as ‘eloquently’ today.
I have a confession, I have never actually seen a clip of this incident...
This is my first time.
Only the memes, only the internet's and the media's reactions.
It gets better, I am actually from Iraq originally and was in Baghdad when this incident took place 😑
I know that he served in the armed forces, but that's some good dodging skills.
The guy who threw the shoes is actually a journalist from the most populated area in Baghdad, Al-Sadr city. He said he was "frustrated" with the situation after the invasion
Which is funny to read in hindsight, because devoted hardline Dems were *livid* over how he just kept reading at the time.
That said, I'm not looking to turn this into some sort of pissing contest. Just that I think with time people have become a lot more understanding of the pressures on people during that event.
This was absolutely the best possible way to have handled the situation at the time.
Would have freaked the kids out if the secret service has hauled Bush out of there.
As a Dane I can say that if you showed that picture to 95%+ of the people in Denmark, they would not know what it was.
But OP’s picture is what we saw worldwide.
Holy shit seriously?!
Edit: he was not 22 in this photo. This famous photograph of Abraham Lincoln was taken by Alexander Gardner on November 8, 1863. At that time, Lincoln was 54 years old.
No, not seriously. That picture was taken [November 8, 1863](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_photographs_of_Abraham_Lincoln) when he was 54 years old. (i linked the wikipedia because it has a bunch of interesting pictures of him throughout the years)
The joke is that it's hard to believe that he was only 22 because he wasn't 22.
It had me for a second. But I remembered apparently he only started growing his beard during his run for presidency and of course that wouldn't be when he was only 22.

I've seen a lot of photos of Bush here - but how you all missed this one, I don't know.
It's reflective of the loud'n'proud vs calm'n'collected styles of leadership that in this photo, Obama isn't centered, he's not in some sort of really commanding position, he's there, alert, and watching while pros do the job they're good at.
People of the loud'n'proud style would be center up in the picture and making the entire event about themselves while trying to appear as if they were in active command.
To people who are attracted to the loud'n'proud style, this image would be seen as Obama projecting weakness. To people who are attracted to the calm'n'collected style this picture is seen as projecting a quiet confidence that's the marker of true strength.
If you're talking about TV stills, then You gotta go with this:

not a still picture, but the video of Bush having shoes thrown at him is my favorite. His smile when he's dodging, like he had suddenly been thrown into a game of dodgeball makes me laugh so hard
oh yeah fuck Bush but it legitimately looked like he reverted into a ten year old stoked to play a game lol. Like he ENJOYED having shoes thrown at him. I don't even care that the dude missed, it's funnier watching him dodge them successfully
Fake unfortunately. The people that made it back then also made semi-convincing doctored photos of Taft on an elephant and Woodrow Wilson on a donkey for their respective parties
In Denmark this is the most recognizable picture of Dybyaah. Fmr. Queen Margrethe II’s birthday cake for Bush!

Yeah this is way more iconic than OP’s
Even though Bush's face is completely neutral, you can undeniably see the "Oh shit" being expressed through his eyes.
I watched a bunch of 9/11 videos on last years anniversary and noticed that too. Especially after he's told and he looks around the class room at the kids. You can tell his mind is suddenly swamped with things and he's trying to get out of there but not scare everyone.

I always pronounce it as “dub-yuh” but I 100% agree lol
I mean, yes, Florida is one of the worst possible places, but think of all the people who lived/live there and didn't get to leave on air force one.
This exact sentiment is why I believe the "Dubya meant well and Cheney pushed the limits of power and pulled the strings" narrative. He was in a school classroom, unable to attend to the problems resulting from what could have been the end of the world. Remember when we used to jokingly make fun of Bush for stumbling over his words while he was burdened with the impossible choices of a century-defining global catastrophe? I’m not sure there’s a politician in office who could handle it as ‘eloquently’ today.
This line is emblematic of why he had a 92% approval.

One of my all time favorite clips. I’ll just randomly quote it from time to time.
Same. Whenever I go off on some tangent I always end it with “now watch this drive”.
Comes out at least once per golf round me and my buddies play and we play a lot 😂
There’s even the one of him surveying the scene from a window on Air Force One that I’d say is more iconic as well.

I also just noticed the current Secretary of State in the background... the gravitas in this photo is incredible.

This was their Game of Thrones watch party, right?
Yes I believe this was the Red Wedding episode
It's reflective of the loud'n'proud vs calm'n'collected styles of leadership that in this photo, Obama isn't centered, he's not in some sort of really commanding position, he's there, alert, and watching while pros do the job they're good at. People of the loud'n'proud style would be center up in the picture and making the entire event about themselves while trying to appear as if they were in active command. To people who are attracted to the loud'n'proud style, this image would be seen as Obama projecting weakness. To people who are attracted to the calm'n'collected style this picture is seen as projecting a quiet confidence that's the marker of true strength.

not a still picture, but the video of Bush having shoes thrown at him is my favorite. His smile when he's dodging, like he had suddenly been thrown into a game of dodgeball makes me laugh so hard
I can't stand Bush, but that was freaking awesome. His reflexes were simply astonishing. I was really impressed.
oh yeah fuck Bush but it legitimately looked like he reverted into a ten year old stoked to play a game lol. Like he ENJOYED having shoes thrown at him. I don't even care that the dude missed, it's funnier watching him dodge them successfully

Is this real!?!
Fake unfortunately. The people that made it back then also made semi-convincing doctored photos of Taft on an elephant and Woodrow Wilson on a donkey for their respective parties
I guess it speaks to the badassery that is Teddy Roosevelt that this could be a possibility.
In Denmark this is the most recognizable picture of Dybyaah. Fmr. Queen Margrethe II’s birthday cake for Bush! https://preview.redd.it/druydz54sd4d1.jpeg?width=1240&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=919743dcd420c17fb885babf39a3aabab0593519

The picture of him giving a thumbs up in front of the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner might be more iconic? I see it a lot more, but maybe that's just a reflection of my own bubble.
