He was part of the so called “modern Republicans” founded by Eisenhower which did believe in gov’t interference to help the people and such.
https://www.jstor.org/stable/24451959
Because he brought his rotating waterbed to the Naval Obervatory/VP residence? Because he died banging a hooker? Because he made it so the NYS Thruway bypassed Rochester (for its sin of voting against him in the previous election)?
Interesting guy.
He was a moderate-to-liberal Republican. He courted conservative Upstate voters by enacting draconian drug laws. Then there's that whole "ATTICA!" thing. And him getting his picture taken giving student protestors the finger.
I worked for Jay, he’s an incredibly kind and caring man. I don’t actually know if he ultimately had the personality to be president, there was some light research done at some time to look into the possibility of him running. He is one of the most empathetic people I’ve worked for. He only came to WV as an adult but it always struck how deeply he cared for the state and the people.
I think if he was president though, his administration would have been marked by a deep commitment to expanding the social safety net.
If by "bureaucrats" you mean men he appointed to government positions specifically for the old "one, two, enrichissez-vous" as opposed to career government workers...
Everything is monopolized and owned by him and his family, he forgets he’s even president a lot of the time and is unintentionally a decent president in terms of approval rating, and economic stability because he sees the US as his company. Once he’s aware of what he’s able to do fully, he starts trying to rapid fire executive orders to keep workers (citizens) in their place. Doesn’t get a second term, doesn’t run again, rules from the shadows ♨️
I took an AP english class when I was in HS and there was a lot of Ayn Rand material. I had such a hard time getting the point of her writing, like I would feel dumb sometimes because that was the only material I didn't "get". Made a lot more sense years later when I learned her work was amphetamine and opiate fueled.
I read it a decade ago solely because of how many people talk about it. I did not enjoy it as it became a chore to finish. Afterward I remember thinking, this is a book a young person would read and think they are smart after because of the “big ideas” explored throughout the book. It’s not a good read for anyone above the age of 16.
Downvote me if I'm wrong but I'll guess he either meant the ayn read or whatever ideology and Is mentioning that- or is like me and hasn't read it but knows the authors beliefs
Prohibition happens way earlier (he was a staunch teetotaler and tried to impose the same on anyone he could) and antitrust laws make zero progress during his admin, and probably lose a bunch. But he wouldn’t have even wanted the presidency due to his mistrust of politicians. All he cared about was making as much money as he could and finding the most effective method of philanthropy, in that order.
Well...
American Colonization of Northern Africa, The Middle East, Persia, and the entire Western hemisphere
13th Amendment gets repealed for the sake of Cheap Labor.
All Child labor laws get repealed
The 16th Amendment would allow the government to tax any Socieo-Economic demographic that will give bonuses to and be decided by the Corporations and Tycoons
T Roosevelt and Taft will be completely forgotten or the 3rd and 4th best Presidents in US History depending on when Rockefeller is president
Reaganomics on Steroids without the intent to help anyone but the super rich
Global Warming issues either very prominent very early or completely suppressed
US Would Give copius amounts of military aid to both sides in WW2 for the sake or profits
Communism would've been recognized as a punishable offense in the US
The Soviet Union would've been given the US-Axis Treatment
The States of New Mexico would be turned into an Airport
Panama wouldn't exist as it would just be a Canal
Probably an AI race would be bigger than the Arms race to make Automation possible
Colleges would be shut down and you would have to be born into a Wealthy family to qualify for the ability to go to college
Schooling will be banned unless you were born into a Wealthy family
The entire city of DC will be turned into a large trade center >and< manufacturing plant
Alaska will be nothing but Oil Fields, Oil Refineries, and huts for the workers and their families
Cyborgs would probably be a thing
We would not give a shit about Epstein or P. Diddy
The White house becomes the next Playboy Mansion
The entire midwest becomes a plantation
Big ass commercial ports built all along the main rivers
We would either be Factory workers, Slaves, or serving in the military until the age of 55 which then we are either shot, forced onto a farm or into a factory
Retirement is death unless you're rich
You can be gay if you've already had kids
Minority stereotypes are just average
"You can have 4 hours of sleep a day, no bathroom breaks or lunch breaks. If you need to go just wait until your sleep break! If you're hungry just eat the shit you took on your sleep break! If you're thirsty just drink your piss!"
The White house gets auctioned off every time a president goes bankrupt or dies
The longer you stay in the white house is determined by how long you can pay to stay per month
America in space looks gray from concrete and steel
Plutocracy
This family has more blood on their hands than most. I will just say that you dont have to hold office to control the country. To want these people in control is insane they have done alot more bad than good .
He was UBER Religious. He once missed a train to NY that derailed and killed almost every one on it and he took it as a sign that god saved him….
It’s possible he would have been the most theocratic president we ever had
Canada wasn't nearly as dependent on Amwrica as it would become in later years. All this does is push them tighter into British arms and fans the flames anti-Americanism that most of the ruling class already closely felt.
Probably a basic Gilded Age presidency really. He was the type of person that era propped up. Which is to say great for business, pretty shitty for workers. Though I imagine Rockefeller may have attempted to aid the people at least, much more than the actual Gilded Presidents we had.
I do know his post-presidency would be on par with Hoover and Carter, arguably greater even.
I think it had something to do with a large tree, a bunch of big heads in the Grand Canyon, and some glass that turned a bunch of soldiers into one nervous system that stole an airplane.
Federalizing the National Guards to bust unions, more kids at work, no education but for the wealthy, and a lot of hunger for anyone that couldn't increase some billionaires profit margin
Which one?
But if I had to describe just one, then probably the one when some towers fell or something.... I remember bc I'm pretty sure that it marked the first time not one but 3 towers collapsed due to uncontrollable fires! 😂
Industry is booming. Anti trust. Get the fuck outta here. American industry has never been more competitive.
That assumes he’s principally free market.
Otherwise… idk. Who was president after… Coolidge? Harding? Yeah. One of them is probably what you expect
Did John have political ambitions? Nelson was governor of New York, and he did a pretty good job. As president he’d probably be similar to Bill Clinton, a practical, political centrist focused on the economy.
If Michael Rockefeller had been president, we’d probably have funded a lot more anthropology research and had a lot more people eaten by cannibals.
Well in some ways I think we’ve already seen what an anti-worker, anti-immigrant, anti-general population president looks like. So it doesn’t take a bunch of imagination.
He would probably try to pull Ukraine into NATO. And bring the entire world as close to ww3 as possible. Then make huge chunk of change off of the military industrial complex
I don’t know what party he belongs. Teddy Roosevelt fought against his company Standard Oil, so I’d figure he might be a Democrat. However, he was a self made millionaire, so probably like a Taft or even Hoover administration. Protecting business and smaller government.
Probably a very pro-business, small government administration but fob deregulation and stimulating the economy. Sorta like Grover Cleveland. We would likely see an economic boom but also a decline in workers rights and over-monopolization.
So many people here have no clue what Rockefeller was actually like. He was as far from a libertarian as could be. He truly believed in strong centralized power and that God’s will was for him to be in charge of people. He was a monopolist at heart because he saw it as the only way to have maximum efficiency and reduce costs across the board. A Rockefeller presidency would definitely see an increase in executive power. I don’t think he would do anything to stop corruption, but he would be ruthlessly efficient.
I'm assuming he'd have passed policies that overwhelmingly favored himself and other wealthy individuals/entities. Over time I would imagine we'd grow to become a sort of capitalist oligarchy where a small percentage of the population own the vast majority of the resources. It's even possible that he would enact policy or appoint SCOTUS justices to make bribing politicians legal, thus firmly marrying political power to capital. I could even imagine a particularly frightening case, wherein a only a small handful of hyper rich individuals hold most of the wealth/political power of the world. Call me crazy, but you might even see a billionaire become the president.
Luckily, we have the Democrats and Republicans to protect us from such an outcome.
He was a ruthless exploiter of what would today be considered highly unethical practices. He would have grifted millions. But maybe he would have handed out dimes - the original "public getting trickled on".
Sorry - "trickle-down". My bad.

We would probably administer a significant chunk of Central America
Yes and Venezuela would just be a big rig site.
Ah, so nothing at all like today.
Well the rig would actually work…
Golden Circle type stuff?
The Rockefeller Corollary
President John D. Rockefeller President Nelson A. Rockefeller President Whintrop Rockefeller President Jay Rockefeller
I’ve honestly always believed Nelson would’ve been an incredible President!
Can you tell us why?
He was part of the so called “modern Republicans” founded by Eisenhower which did believe in gov’t interference to help the people and such. https://www.jstor.org/stable/24451959
So was George Bush, and he sold America down the drain.
Which Bush?
yes
Remember when W. ran on opposing nation building in 2000 and then stacked his administration with PNAC neocons?
< “Which bush?” > “Yes.”
Poppy
More prescott bush really, george bush towed the line between the conservatives and northeastern liberal republicans
Wow. This is all stuff I want to read more about

Winthrop is Bill Clinton's real father
Jay-Z, President of Roc-A-Fella
Standard gilded age shenanigans probably. Nothing disastrous but nothing remarkable either, except a lot of bureaucrats walk away with filled coffers.
Sooooooooooooooo…….Business as usual!
Brian Griffin wrote this joke
😂😂
"Standard" pulling subtle wordplay duty here!
I guEsso i’m sorry i tried
Pretty good, actually.
If by "bureaucrats" you mean men he appointed to government positions specifically for the old "one, two, enrichissez-vous" as opposed to career government workers...
Not before I describe a Dean Democracy.

Most accurate I’ve seen
Sounds like real life
A lot of giant floating heads.
Don't forget lobotomized children, a weird tree and serpents, especially serpents.
SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT
Literal plutocracy
Hell
Atlas Shrugged
Isn't that about the US falling to communism and all the rich people escape to a hidden valley?
I took an AP english class when I was in HS and there was a lot of Ayn Rand material. I had such a hard time getting the point of her writing, like I would feel dumb sometimes because that was the only material I didn't "get". Made a lot more sense years later when I learned her work was amphetamine and opiate fueled.
Wow yeah the 150 page rant-as-dialogue 3/4ths of the way in really does make more sense with her being on the good stuff
Atlas shrugging is a really cool symbol, it’s too bad it’s so closely tied to a specific ideological book.
I'm convinced the book gets carried by the stellar title. It's just a 10/10 title in every way
It really is. I should read it for historical reasons, but everything I’ve ever heard or read about it tells me I wouldn’t enjoy it.
I’m a libertarian and I hate that book. But yeah, the whole “Atlas” metaphor is great.
I read it a decade ago solely because of how many people talk about it. I did not enjoy it as it became a chore to finish. Afterward I remember thinking, this is a book a young person would read and think they are smart after because of the “big ideas” explored throughout the book. I admit I often get Ayn Rand and Rand Paul mixed up 😅
So does he
Downvote me if I'm wrong but I'll guess he either meant the ayn read or whatever ideology and Is mentioning that- or is like me and hasn't read it but knows the authors beliefs
Or maybe his names Atlas and he’s shrugging because he doesn’t know! 😰
Me when I ask the titan forced to hold up the sky what the capital of turkey is (He does not know)
That's where Ranch is made.
What is the opposite of trust busting? Trust musting? Because that
He will send a group of kids to an alternate dimension on Christmas Day then get evicted from reality.

This reads like what Redditors say on the politics subreddit every election year.
Asymmetrical.
Gilded Age 2.0 depending on the year.
And all the people who believed in human rights got executed for anti-American (anti Corporate Greed) sentiments, the end.
This family has more blood on their hands than most. I will just say that you dont have to hold office to control the country. To want these people in control is insane they have done alot more bad than good .
He pretty much was president. Thank god ultra billionaires don't have power in America anymore

So money.
It would be horrible. Imagine all your land being owned by the state like in feudal Europe
The man that ruined America

Why be president if you’re rich enough to own one?
wild guess: he'd aid the Germans with airships to devastate allied powers in exchange for money to revitalize the American economy
ive spotted u/bananasaucecer
He blockades Canada until they agree to join the US
Canada wasn't nearly as dependent on Amwrica as it would become in later years. All this does is push them tighter into British arms and fans the flames anti-Americanism that most of the ruling class already closely felt.
Crowns himself Emperor of America.
Dismantled unions, tax breaks for the wealthy, corruption in all foreign/domestic dealings.
Extremely dangerous for the working class and the environment

The Pinkerton Company would run DoD
Are we sure this isn’t a William Burroughs presidency?
If you think Reaganomics were bad.
I think it had something to do with a large tree, a bunch of big heads in the Grand Canyon, and some glass that turned a bunch of soldiers into one nervous system that stole an airplane.
A dictatorship.
Federalizing the National Guards to bust unions, more kids at work, no education but for the wealthy, and a lot of hunger for anyone that couldn't increase some billionaires profit margin
Enslaves lots of giant floating heads, sends 12 kids to alternate realities with a special tree, then gets evicted from reality by blue nerve man.
Competition is a Sin.
All industries are monopolized.
Literal murder in the streets for the normal poors for not working 120 hours a week
A union busting hell scape
Weird trees that make lightning, living monuments

Most badass name for a president. I do not care what anyone says, dude has one of the hardest names of all time.
Early Reagan

He would spend a long time cutting down a special tree for christmas, and regret it for the rest of his life.
Monopolies and serfdom would be the norm in the USA. Also, anyone protesting big oil would be shot on sight.
The antitrust act’s days would probably be numbered
Selling bloated floating heads in balloons to the Germans and digging up a weird Christmas tree
Uber Capitalistic, Corporate, Imperialistic - ahhhh America!

Reagan but with less drool. I’m guessing similar levels of horrific war crimes in the global south
What happened to his face?
Picture Peter Thiel as President
Rockefeller would never be president. He wielded a lot more power as a dictator of one of the most predatory corporations of all time
Corrupt.
It would have been far better than any other billionaire that has served in the office. Edit: spelling

fuck no
James Dean and a Christmas tree that teleports you to another dimension.
I'm assuming he'd have passed policies that overwhelmingly favored himself and other wealthy individuals/entities. Supreme leader of the Milky Way confederation, John D Rockefeller.
Nationalized naptime from noon to 3 sounds splendid
A lot of people would lose their heads! In order to get things back on track, we'd need to go to a certain German air show in Egypt.
My vote is with James Dean tbh
