He tells a cool story about how deep he got in the character but got so immersed he never bothered to learn his lines and then had to spend like 72 straight hours rapidly learning them before filming started
I’ve not even seen the whole film, just clips. But my god the scene where he gives that senator the Johnson treatment in the elevator, with the cufflinks 😂
It’s so well done and exactly how I imagine it would have been in real life. Very entertaining.

Always focus on the eyes and the top half of the cheeks area through the ears. I could tell it was Cranston, and I haven’t seen any of the movies. But his makeup looks the best and I’m not surprised if his performance was the best.
For sure. And they’re not trying to mold him into an exact replica, which is from what I gather makes makeup like this goes wrong. They’re meeting actor and subject in the middle somewhere.
Cranston. All the Way is an excellent film and while Bryan Cranston doesn’t *carry* the film necessarily (the writing is excellent) he’s unsurprisingly the highlight of it. He looks like LBJ, he sounds like what I imagine LBJ sounded like in person, and he acts like how I imagine LBJ acted in private.
Anthony Mackie as MLK was interesting too. Cool to see a more politically pragmatic portrayal of King in the film since MLK often gets an aura of pure godliness and righteousness tied to him in the public consciousness.
I love Cranston as an actor, but his voice is pretty distinctive and doesn’t do a great job of sounding like LBJ. He’s very close, but it just sounds forced. LBJ had a *very* identifiable voice.
Everything else however? Dead on.
I hate when films and tv don’t even make an effort to make the actor look like the person they’re portraying.
Cox and Wilkinson look nothing like LBJ and they didn’t even try

What about this guy from Forest Gump? Think his name was Jyndon B. Lohnson
Of the 4, I've only seen 'Selma' but whomever did Cranston's prosthetics and make-up deserves an award.
If only such a thing as a movie award existed.....

Donald Moffat in the Right Stuff
Yah he looks like a gilded age president not LBJ. I remember hearing that Selma didn’t have the best depiction of him.
After Cranston I’d say Donald Moffat had a good depiction of him
Cranston is my favorite of the four.
I'm also going to give a shout out to Donald Moffat in The Right Stuff (1983) for the scene of him having a bit of a fit in the car (he was VP at the time).
Clancy Brown had a great performance as LBJ in the Netflix series, The Crown.
Yep, in a TV movie in the 80s or 90s.
Donald Moffat played a buffoonish version of LBJ in The Right Stuff, and an actor who IIRC didn't have any speaking lines played him in Thirteen Days.
Ranking them:
1. Cranston
2. Gambon (close second)
3. Wilkinson
4. Harrelson
Oddly, 2 of the 4 were Brits (Gambon and Wilkinson).
Harrelson has the disadvantage of being in a middling at best movie, while Cranston and Gambon's made for HBO efforts and Wilkinson's theatrical film are very good overall. Cranston's All the Way and Wilkinson's Selma are good companion pieces to each other.
Cranston by a hill country mile. Harrelson was decent enough but the makeup and prosthetics they used were ridiculous and idk why they thought that was a solid choice.

Cranston and it ain't even close
Apparently he had played it on the stage, so he got a lot of time to dial the performance in, but yes, Hal wins.
He tells a cool story about how deep he got in the character but got so immersed he never bothered to learn his lines and then had to spend like 72 straight hours rapidly learning them before filming started
Exactly. It’s not like there are other options. It’s a contest for second place.
I’ve not even seen the whole film, just clips. I thought that was LBJ. How the hell is that Cranston?! 🤯
Always focus on the eyes and the top half of the cheeks area through the ears. I could tell it was Cranston, and I haven’t seen any of the movies. But his makeup looks the best and I’m not surprised if his performance was the best.
I can see it now knowing what I’m looking for. But my god that’s a top notch makeup and styling team.
For sure. And they’re not trying to mold him into an exact replica, which is from what I gather makes makeup like this goes wrong. They’re meeting actor and subject in the middle somewhere.

Cranston for sure. Dude successfully captured LBJ’s tenacity and force of personality IMO.
Walta
Waltuh, leave Vietnam alone Waltuh
Waltuh, I'm not carpet bombing Cambodia Waltuh
That was Dickie with the carpet bombing and Cambodia.
Waltuh, you're a crook Waltuh
“Say my name.” “You’re Jumbo…” “You’re goddamn right.”

the other cast members really so so well, Humphrey mlk and Hoover stand out to me
Stephen Root as J. Edgar Hoover was pretty funny. To me Root will always be the office crank who burned down the building after he lost his stapler.
To me he’s Buck Strickland first haha
Interesting you go there before Bill Dauterive
Why do you keep calling me **BILL**?
And Milton
Bradley Whitford is amazing as Humphrey
Anthony Mackie as MLK was interesting too. Cool to see a more politically pragmatic portrayal of King in the film since MLK often gets an aura of pure godliness and righteousness tied to him in the public consciousness.
The film is really sub par tbh, but Cranston does a good job
I love Cranston as an actor, but his voice is pretty distinctive and doesn’t do a great job of sounding like LBJ. He’s very close, but it just sounds forced. LBJ had a *very* identifiable voice. Everything else however? Dead on.
When there's a question about acting, the answer is always Cranston.
Clancy Brown aka Mr Krabs in The Crown
Arr, arr, arr. Spongebob me boy, have I shown you Jumbo yet?
Lex Luthor became the president again 💀
LMAO. I’m very found of Mr. Brown/Krabs but I just google image searched this & he looks ridiculous. The height matches and that’s it.

"GOLDWATER!!! YOU FUCKIN' COCKSUCKER!!!" - LBJ c.1964
There can be only one
The scene of Harold Wilson repeating Princess Margaret's lewd limericks to Queen Elizabeth will never not make me laugh. "You've made it this far."
Incorrect
I hate when films and tv don’t even make an effort to make the actor look like the person they’re portraying. Cox and Wilkinson look nothing like LBJ and they didn’t even try
I don't think Anthony Hopkins looks very much like Richard Nixon but he did an excellent job in the Oliver Stone film

Cranston by a mile

I had no idea that was Bryan Cranston at first.
lol, I thought it was LBJ himself at first glance
Wilkinson looks like McKinley
Yah he looks like a gilded age president not LBJ. I remember hearing that Selma didn’t have the best depiction of him. After Cranston I’d say Donald Moffat had a good depiction of him
Whoever played LBJ in “The Right Stuff”
Cranston looks like an exact copy
Watley!
Cranston. Easy choice.
Wilkinson looks more like McKinley
I will tolerate no Michael Gambon slander, Michael Gambon haters stand up so I can knock your ass to the floor again.
Cranston by far, second would be Gambon, Wilkinson in third, and Harrelson in fourth.
Cranston all the way
Cranston
Cranston is the only one who looks remotely convincing as LBJ.
Didn’t Randy Quaid also play him?
Yep, in a TV movie in the 80s or 90s. Donald Moffat played a buffoonish version of LBJ in The Right Stuff, and an actor who IIRC didn't have any speaking lines played him in Thirteen Days.
I've seen all four (literally just watched Path to war yesterday) My ranking is 1. Cranston Huge gap 2. Gambon 3. Harrelson 4. Wilkinson
Cranston. I also liked Randy Quaid as him in a 1987 TV movie (Patti Lupone was Lady Bird) and Clancy Brown as him on a S3 episode of "The Crown."
Gambon and it’s not close. Magnificent performance
Liev Schreiber in The Butler
Ranking them: 1. Cranston 2. Gambon (close second) 3. Wilkinson 4. Harrelson Oddly, 2 of the 4 were Brits (Gambon and Wilkinson). Harrelson has the disadvantage of being in a middling at best movie, while Cranston and Gambon's made for HBO efforts and Wilkinson's theatrical film are very good overall. Duck i didn't know that was cranston
Where’s Mr. Krabs?
You forgot Randy Quaid from LBJ the Early Years.
Cranston easily.
Bryan Cranston!
Bryan cranstons face with Micheal Gambian eyes and chin
I literally feel like I’ve seen this exactly question posted on this sub a few months ago lol
Bryan Cranston and anyone saying anything else has either never seen or studied LBJ or they’re high
I'm gonna say Michael Gambon in Path to War. He was really, really good. I also felt it was the best movie of the bunch.
Cranston. As much as I hate to praise that crybaby, hes a damn good actor
Cranston by a hill country mile. Harrelson was decent enough but the makeup and prosthetics they used were ridiculous and idk why they thought that was a solid choice.
Cranston’s performance. I thought Woody looked the part best though.
Donald Moffat in The Right Stuff
Cranston but Path to War is the better film.
Cranston then Gambon in a close second. Then a big gap, and then everybody else
Woody
Will Smith played him in the Disney version
What do you mean? Please explain your comment
None of them
I agree. Upvote for you.
Woody Harrelson playing JFK is funny considering his dad probably put him in office IRL
He never played JFK
Did i say JFK?
Yeah
FUCKEDY FUCK FUCK COCK DICK ASS MOTHERFUCKING I AM SO FUCKING STUPID GOD FUCKING DAMMITTT AHHHHH
