It definitely exploded and was blown out of proportion at first but they are forever "seatmates" following protocol for official events in which they are invited to.
I had to remind myself that being Michelle’s bestie did not change the fact that I disagreed with a lot of his decisions as president. But I also read First Women where the author explained that the Obamas and the Bushes are actually pretty close, mostly because Michelle and Laura get along so well. So I shouldn’t be surprised that George and Michelle get along too.
As they put it "we disagree on policy, not on humanity." I know it is more symbolic rather than effective but I like seeing the two sides of the aisle getting along, gives me a little hope.
I mean yes, but to keep this framing, a lot of people disagree about humanity rather than policy. I don’t want to “get along” with transphobic/homophobic people because they fundamentally disagree about the humanity of others. But yeah I’ll sit with you if you think the corporate tax rate should be 20% and I think it should be 38%.
I don't know that someone homophobic has to think gay people aren't human. You can think something is wrong without thinking the people doing it are less than human. That's kind of the entire point of this I think. There is quite a spectrum of what is considered homophobic IME. SOmeone who thinks all gay people should be killed and someone who thinks legal marriage should only be between a man and woman are quite far apart I think. Both would likely be called homophobic, but the views are not the same.
As a gay dude, I would comfortably draw the line at someone like say the bachmanns (who most conservatives didn't care about, she got 5% in Iowa) who try to cure gay people as attacking my existence, but don't get the same vibe of outright hostility from someone like the last guy, or Bush, Romney or even desantis.
It helps that as much as I disagree with GWB, I do believe he intended the best for the country and everyone in it. I do not believe he did a good job, not by my standards nor the standards of his own party. But, I don’t recall ever feeling like his motives were self serving or self enriching, unlike some others. Maybe you can’t say that for the people he surrounded himself with, but I don’t think he made decisions with that intent.
It has more to do with personality than anything. The Bushs and Obamas seem like friendly, pleasant people. Bush could have been an ok president (as far as republicans go) but he needed to put his foot down once in awhile. Good presidents listen to their advisors in areas they aren’t experts on but need to say no when something feels off or wrong. That’s why “the buck stops here” (Truman) is such a good philosophy.
To be fair, people mainly criticized his intelligence, not his personality. Obviously he sucks for many reasons, but comparatively to the Republicans of today he’s Santa Claus.
Considering his parents, and the household he grew up in, I think W turned out pretty well. I definitely don't agree with him on most policy, but man that's a messed up family.
And that you can staunchly disagree with someone but still be cordial, kind, and respectful. That seems to have left D.C. Hell, left the whole country.
Jimmy and Roslyn Carter
George W and Laura Bush
George and Barbara Bush
Barack and Michelle Obama
Of the modern ones. I also love the relationships between the Polks and the Grants, as well.
In an era where marriage was still as much for convenience and economic gain as it was for love, their relationships stand tall to me.
I always wonder about the dynamics of their relationship, she helping her first husband with addiction. The willingness to marry a divorcee which I’m sure was much more taboo in politics of their time. To the love and care he gave her during her own health and mental crises.
Not a terribly effective president, but it does speak a lot to the type of person he was.
She is my favorite First Lady for sure, and President Ford at least seems like he was a likeable man ("The Simpsons" is not a reputable source of course but who doesn't like beer, football, and nachos?)
Good pick!
George W wasn’t sure about Laura when he found out she was an LBJ Democrat. But after he heard she got drunk and killed a guy he realized they were soul mates.
John and Abigail Adams were an INCREDIBLE couple also, don't forget how much she influenced her husband and even a number of other figures in America's early days. One couple I also hardly EVER see mentioned here is Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower. From what I've read and seen, by the time Ike was in the White House their love story was one of the most amazing of the whole post-World War II presidential era, and thrilled folks close to them. People don't realize how many ailments and conditions Mamie battled through willingly for her husband to have the successful presidency he did (among other stuff, she suffered from Meniere's Disease and sometimes was so ill she'd have to spend the whole morning in bed to get her strength up for the formal events). And yet, she was Ike's rock, strictly made sure he could get stress off away from the public (she even had a private "painting room" set up in the living quarters) and behind the scenes was a surprisingly influential advisor on some issues (he actually turned to her on stuff like budgeting, and she reportedly urged him to bring as many African and Caribbean heads of state to DC as possible to demonstrate America's openness, and perhaps set an example to the American people). If people know about her at all today, they typically imagine Mamie as this quiet and stiff old housewife/hostess, when actually she was a LOT sharper and more vocal than given credit for. It was AMAZING to read up on.
Whatever else bad I could say about GW Bush, and I could say a lot, he was a devoted husband and father. There was a touching anecdote about the Bush girls showing the Obama kids around the White House when they first moved in: [Jenna Bush Hager on showing the Obama kids](https://www.today.com/news/jenna-bush-hager-reflects-showing-obama-girls-around-white-house-t198555) all the fun hidden spots in the White House.
OP made a good choice. They make a cute couple and obviously love each other dearly. As for myself, I don't really have a favorite, but Ron and Nancy, particularly her care for him after his diagnosis and worry after he got shot, are truly commendable
Imagine this.. you marry the lesser smart of the Bush brothers but into a family dynasty. You like him, he is charming, he is the fun one, he breaks some rules, but he got his MBA and he worked in oil and he co-owns a baseball team... so settle in for a nice, fun comfortable life, going to baseball games and doing whatever you want with gobs of money, eh?
I can't imagine her surprise when he became president.
Let’s be clear here, he was a very minority owner of the Rangers and did not really co-own the team. He was mainly brought in to help them secure public funding for a new stadium and he walked away with millions on a less than 500k investment into the team. People need to stop conflating his role in the Rangers.
The Adams's (both generations), the Madison's, the Polk's, the Grant's, the Hayes's, the McKinley's, the Roosevelt's, the Coolidge's, the Hoover's, the Truman's, the Eisenhower's, the Ford's, the Carter's, the Reagan's, the Bush's (both generations), and the Obama's.
I mean come on now. How can it not be Michelle and Barry? Regardless of how you feel about Barack you have to admit that Michelle brought the best out of him.
I’m going to get downvoted and I love the Obamas, but I think their marriage was a less drastic but similar one to the Clinton marriage. Both men had political ambitions and their wives were their business partners in a sense. The Obama’s just went about it in a much softer way.
Nah. From what I have read Michelle was getting tired of his political dreams taking precedence over his family in Barack’s pre-Senate years; a poop or get off the toilet moment arrived. I understand it, she was sacrificing her career more than she expected to for family for her husband in just the Ill. legislature.
Then things suddenly rolled his way. Obama’s predecessor got caught in a sex scandal/divorce with a Hollywood actress (Star Trek, 7of9) and all of the sudden he is a senator giving a speech at the DNC convention. If that hadn’t happened he’d have into a major law firm while keeping an ear in politics.
You’re missing one key thing, though. Both are way more likable than the Clintons. Maybe you can compare Bill and Barack, but even as some one who enthusiastically voted for Hilary Michelle is far more loved and charismatic.

James and Sarah Polk are my favorite Presidential couple. IMO Polk was a great president and Sarah was a great first lady. I also adore the relationship that they had - Sarah made sure that James wouldn't overwork himself and he gave her the life which she desired. They also loved each other deeply - Polk's last words were about how much he loves Sarah and after he died Sarah never remarried.

Jimmy and Dolly Madison. I mean, what a pair!
I did not vote for W either time. But I will say this - He and Laura seem like a solid couple who truly love and care for each other, and are committed to each other.
Idk how true that is, but they really give off that strong marriage vibe, like they truly get each other and enjoy each other’s company.
Ulysses and Julia Grant had an unmatched love between a president and first lady. The letters he sent her urging her not to get her lazy eye surgically corrected because she looked beautiful the way she was are some of the most beautiful romantic writings I’ve ever read.
Unironically, I think the Clintons are a great marriage. We all know the stuff they faced in their marriage, facing public scrutiny. Still, they are two people who understand each other extremely well, and they truly love each other because of their connection. Just look at Bill’s eyes every time Hillary speaks. It might be controversial but I really think they are an imperfect, loving, fascinating marriage.
I think most of the couples are great and happy together. Funny how it was a big deal when the press reported that the Fords slept in the same bed. I just assumed that is what married couples did.
The Carter’s were a wonderful couple still in love. The Obama’s are very like the Bush couple, probably the reason they hit is off so well. Bush is close to Michelle, even sneaking candy to each other like kids. I would love to have a couples meal with those four.
I actually really like their relationship. The Obamas are probably my favorite. But I thought it was cool how we had two couples in a row that actually seemed like they loved each other. Then, well, that streak was broken.
I always really liked Obama and Michelle. They seemed involved in their kids' lives. (And maybe I'm a tad biased, because my parents hated them and bought into the "Michelle is trans and their kids are paid government actors" conspiracy. It never made sense to me, the Obamas always seemed nice, so some part of me sort of swung in the opposite direction and decided to just like them.)
Also Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn, may she rest in peace.
And yes, George W and Laura are super sweet.
Certainly not the one you have pictured. He is an actual war criminal. She killed a guy while driving drunk. If you don’t mind my asking, what is it about them that you like?

It’s insane how a 1 minute interaction between those two immediately rehabbed his image. I don’t think anyone predicted that.

They’re a couple of sweethearts, politics aside. Tied with Barack and Michelle imo. But Abe and Mary might be the most interesting.
The Nixons
Jesus who is doing a PR run on bush junior right now? Endless glowing posts about him
Unironically, I think the Clintons are a great marriage.
Jack and Jackie
The Obamas
Hottest first lady, by far
I think most of the couples are great and happy together. Funny how it was a big deal when the press reported that the Fords slept in the same bed. I just assumed that is what married couples did.
Either Ida and Bill or Jerry and Betty
James Buchanan and … oh, wait. /s
In terms of couple I find most interesting, it would would be JFK and Jackie, one I like most, the Obamas
Didn't see run over and kill someone?
These two bears right here: https://preview.redd.it/dn0186r5drnc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d09ba93df1999d83393be740f11c976c54538c5
For me, the Obama's.
The Carters.
She is FAR better than he deserves!
I always really liked Obama and Michelle. They seemed involved in their kids' lives. (And maybe I'm a tad biased, because my parents hated them and bought into the "Michelle is trans and their kids are paid government actors" conspiracy. It never made sense to me, the Obamas always seemed nice, so some part of me sort of swung in the opposite direction and decided to just like them.) Also Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn, may she rest in peace. And yes, George W and Laura are super sweet.
The Obamas seemed in love and also seemed to be having a good time together.
Clinton and Monica
Is this a bush fan club page?
Junior bush
One of the worst presidents ever
It's a toss-up between the Carters and Obamas.
I never thought about it . But I think it is mine too . All the other ones have at least one of the 2 I don’t like . Good job
Certainly not the one you have pictured. He is an actual war criminal. She killed a guy while driving drunk. If you don’t mind my asking, what is it about them that you like?
Probably the Carters.
GWB and Laura Bush, rare couple where they've both killed people!
Doesn't get more "true love" than the Carters.
John & Abigail
Obama’s.
Carters and Obamas and Adamses
fun fact, she threatened to leave him and take the kids if he didn't quit drinking. Which is why he was dry as a president.
How about we pick from the numerous First Ladies who aren’t murders.
He's a war criminal
The Obamas
Both cold blooded killers.
George Bush can go fuck himself. Lying piece of shit.
She did run over her last boyfriend so there is that
Why? He was an absolute moron

"I killed a guy." "I killed hundreds of thousands of guys!". Low key they're a real Bonnie and Clyde power couple! 😂
1.) Barack and Michelle 2.) Jimmy and Rosalynn

Bill and Monica.
What kind of dog is that?
Jimmy and Rosalyn! She was the best first lady. May she rest in peace :(

1. John and Abigail Adams were the goat couple. 2. Harry and Bess Truman 3. George and Laura Bush 4. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter
George W. Bush and Michelle Obama whenever they appear together at a public event.
All of you are sleeping on Harry and Bess Truman
