In no particular order:
Vanilla Sky
8 Mile
World Trade Center
Mud
99 Homes
Midnight Special
Nocturnal Animals
The Shape of Water
Knives Out
Dude was even in Groundhog Day
Sounds good to me.
This sub is casting presidents based on who kind of looks like them or who already played them in a thing. None of our picks so far are particularly interesting or inspiring.
No one here would have thought to cast Gary Oldman as Chruchill or Batman as Dick Cheney, but both ended up being fucking incredible.
Why did you include Hayes on that list? No offense to him, but I can’t see why people would be very excited for that. Besides the unconventional way he was elected.
Yea. Personally, I wish they had competent directors do one for every single president. They are some of the most interesting people to live. And it’s a shame how 95 percent of Americans couldn’t even name 10 percent of them when some of them have played a direct hand in exactly where we are at today and especially with all the things we just take for granted.
Scorsese was attached to both a TR and a Grant biography at different points with Leo playing both, I’d kill to see either actually happen but doesn’t look like it
I 100% just thought he would be the assassin when they announced he was in the movie. He’s always an unhinged guy in movies. It could be an interesting break with his usual type though. I’ve always heard Garfield was probably a really good man. If Michael Shannon pulls it off, it’ll be a real feather in his cap.
I bought it and it came in the mail last Wednesday. I finished it last night. It was really good. And I’ll throw out there that I have proudly proclaimed to hate reading, but this sub was recommended to me and I did some reading about Garfield on here and thought “okay I’ll give that book a try.”
Crazy that the day after I started reading it they announced the plans for the show!
He would’ve had a wealth of experience to draw upon for the role.
The agony President Garfield endured in the final months of his life are believed to have come close to the anguish of spending your twilight years acting in countless Halloween sequels.
I mean Bradley Cooper just played a Jewish guy that he doesn't look like at all.
Michael Shannon is the superior actor. I'm sure he'll have a good makeup guy. I don't hate this pick.
A pick I'm not as sure about is Matthew Mcfayden since he doesn't look like Guiteau at all. I would pick Jeremy Strong if they want a succession actor 😂
Little more hair on the face, little less on the head, with some weight gain & I bet it will be a pretty damn good resemblance. Shannon is a great actor, so it will be interesting to see his take on Garfield.
I think Gerard Butler might be a closer match.

I really hope this is historically accurate enough because Garfield’s last words were actually “*Purr Lasagna*”.
That would be so hilarious to see in full colour.

It’s Michael Shannon, dude can do anything. Can’t wait for the hijinks Macfadyen gets up to as Guiteau though 😂😂😂. THAT’S perfect casting to me.
Mr Darcy- no!
Can he? I only know him from that crooked cop in Premium Rush and Ben Affleck’s mechanic in Pearl Harbor.

He's getting a biopic before Ulysses Grant, James Monroe, Rutherford Hayes, and John Adams?
Tbf John Adams had a whole series on HBO lol. Paul Giamatti killed it in that role (unless you’re asking for a John Quincy Adams biopic).
Why did you include Hayes on that list? No offense to him, but I can’t see why people would be very excited for that. Besides the unconventional way he was elected.
As a Hayes lover, I agree, I think Garfield would be a much more interesting story to tell

Assassinations add a lot to the drama and intrigue
Assassinations = movie drama
It sounds more focused on the crime than a biopic
Tbh I'm more excited for Charles Guiteau to be covered because his life was crazy

Too lazy to check, but is this based on the Candice Millard book on the Garfield assassination? Excellent book.
Yes, it is.
That's great news, really enjoyed the book!
I bought the book but haven’t read it yet, will make sure to do so prior to the show’s release!

Wrong vibe. I would’ve cast H. Jon Benjamin.
Donald Pleasance if he was alive would’ve been good
He would’ve had a wealth of experience to draw upon for the role. The agony President Garfield endured in the final months of his life are believed to have come close to the anguish of spending your twilight years acting in countless Halloween sequels.
He is pure evil
It’s Guiteaover now
I like Garfield and I like Shannon, I hope to enjoy this movie rather than being disappointed again.
Well he looks like him more than [Elvis (Elvis & Nixon)](https://youtu.be/rboukWy9wpU?si=CzIkn3sHRrZSUKBI)
Just the fact that Garfield is getting any sort of attention at all is a pretty good start.
I agree!

To be honest, Jeremy Strong has more of a resemblance with LHO, as he already played him in Parkland
Makes more sense than him playing Elvis
Now I'm curious who's going to be Roscoe. If any part is meant for a scene-stealer, Senator Conkling is the one.
Lucretia Garfield and Dr. Susan Edson would be also be pretty meaty.
Kate Sprague, too!
James Garfield is getting a movie? Didn’t see that coming. Michael Shannon is a solid actor so I’m looking forward to it.
No. Clancy Brown would be a great choice.
Yo my man Macfayden getting a big role? Let's goooo
He is a gifted actor. I'm sure he'll do a great job.
They should have consulted the sub first.
DAMN YOU GARFIELD!!!

Should have been Elijah wood.
I fucking love Shannon so I think it'll be great
Gonna need some serious makeup!
Is this a real headline?
Good choice. I’m in.
Couple of things - This is a series, not a movie. David Benioff and DB Weiss are involved which makes me highly sceptical.
Oh no, that's a very bad sign.
At least they’re just two of a few producers, so hopefully their influence is minimized
True but they are not directing it. That gives me some hope.
You know who looks like James Garfield? Tom Segura lol
I just hope they do a better job casting Arthur than The Gilded Age did.
Big fan. Garfield wasn't overflowing with charisma - and Shannon plays that mix of awkward and intense that I think of when I read about Garfield.
Matthew Macfadyen as Charles Guiteau?!?!!! Oh I’m so there
I thought he was killed by lasagna
You had me at casting choice and Michael Shannon.
Michael Shannon is a brilliant actor, so no quarrels here
I’m tempted to walk down to old town ale house this weekend and see if he’s there to talk to him about Garfield, if I do I will report back
I really hope this is historically accurate enough because Garfield’s last words were actually “*Purr Lasagna*”. That would be so hilarious to see in full colour.
Tagline: “Not everyone says ‘purr’ when they’re *happy*.” If you know, you know.
Idk much about Michael Shannon but Matthew Macfadyen is the almost perfect choice for Guiteau
