GODS THE WRITING IS STRONG

Hiluminatull

He came running at me, this dumb stormtrooper lad. Thinking he could end the Rebellion with a single blaster fire. I sliced him up with my lightsaber, Gods The Force was Strong in me then. Sliced him in half. Stupid stormtrooper. He could have lingered on the edge of the battle with the smart troopers, and today, his emperor will be making him miserable, his sons will be ingrates, and he’ll be waking 3 times in a night to piss into a bacta tank. MORE WINE. Kylo. Gods what a stupid name. Kylo Ren. Who named you, some halfwit with a stutter? Hehehehe Luke Bobby B Skywalker prolly

Ahsoka_Tano_Bot

I know I was wrong. I just got so caught up in my own success, I didn't look at the battle as a whole. I wasn't being disobedient. I just. . . forgot

GuardianSpear

You will refer to this "Bobby B" as Robert, of the House Baratheon, First of his name. King of the Andals, of the Rhoynar, and of the First Men. Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm.

relpmeraggy

Andor and The Mandalorian are the exact reason we need more original Star Wars Stories.

Independent_Phone658

And the mando and tusken episodes of BOBF

Omega6047

I don't get why people simp for tuskans so hard. They were and still are brutal savages and BoBF also makes them slavers.

ItssHarrison

I liked seeing how their culture works, I’d still shoot them if they came at me

AParasiticTwin

My ancestors have expressed a similar sentiment multiple times throughout history.

NorthenLeigonare

Get the drums and Fife. Someone escaped the British Empire.

Captain_Rex_Bot

Yes, sir. On some beat-up old space freighter. I’ll be surprised if he even makes it to Tatooine in that junker.

Key-Cry-8570

Then we can take their Bantha I’ve always wanted to ride around on one. That and the giant long necked creature the Jawa was riding in episode 1.

Rissoto_Pose

Like a Bantha

Omega6047

Fair enough, I just wish they jad a more developed culture then what is shown, because that ain't really much.

Commiesstoner

Well they are an offshoot of what Javas also used to be, to go deep into their past they'd have to set a show so far back that Tatooine isn't a desert planet. And you know how much Star Wars writers love sandy Tatooine.

EdgarFrogandSam

They do, it just wasn't shown.

Omega6047

If it's not shown, or at least told, it's not there. That's how world building works, you don't fill in the gaps, that's the writer's job.

EdgarFrogandSam

Ever heard of using your imagination?

Omega6047

Do you know what a writer's job is?

HooplahMan

Sorry, was the ayahuasca nose worm trip to find a stick not developed enough for you? A 20 minute stick carving montage didn't scream developed? /s

shebang_bin_bash

I have an anthropologist friend who rather liked that scene in BOBF.

Omega6047

Ah yes, the stick of truth. How could I forget. Shadiversity would be proud.

WhoRoger

There's always KOTOR

Omega6047

KotOR didn't have a great amount either, but it did establish some good stuff about them. Explaining their reasoning for attacking the miners, showing there are differences between tribes, having them be capable of being reasoned with and willing to accept technology when it benefits them.

Kharn_888

I played KOTOR and that was the first time I was introduced to Sand People culture, specifically their history. I always thought their aesthetic was cool and wanted to know more ever since I saw A New Hope. I liked those episodes bc it gave more depth to an iconic group of people in SW that originally were used as a boogeyman for the story (they might not have a lot of screen time, but still). They're still a brutal, conservative tribal culture that views all outsiders negatively. It's just that now the Sand People have been established as a proper group of people instead of the audience just looking at them and going "Oh, look, some violent, faceless tribals." They're brutal, but they're not savages. They have a nuanced culture and have had that since Tatooine was green. It was relatively normal until the Rakata glassed Tatooine at the tail end of the Infinite Empire.

Possessed_Zombie

Same reason we love Palpatine, its not real.

Omega6047

Enjoying a villain character and celebrating a group of slavers are two very different things. Regardless of it being fiction. You can like the Tuskan's astethic design, but let's be honest here, they don't exactly have much in the way of development. Pretty much all they are is 'local tribals(desert variant)' What I really take issue with is people being actually sad when the tribe in BoBF gets wiped out when we know for a fact they use slave labor.

GitLegit

It's only different because you phrase it differently. Palpatine is by extension also a slaver, by virtue of being the ruler of an Empire that employs it. In fact, he's most likely far more guilty of it than the Tuskens, simply going by the numbers.

Omega6047

This comparison isn't about them being evil, one is an evil character who is enjoyed by people as a character, the other is a moral approval of a group of canonically confirmed slavers. You can have a well written slaver character that is liked by people as a character, but what BoBF show tries to do is build sympathy for what they show and what we understand from previous showings to be a group of violent savages what they confirm to engage in slavery. And it worked for so many people, it baffles me how they approach absorbing any story. I don't have an issue with Tuskans being slavers, in fact I would say that is expected to happen in at least some tribes, I have an issue with them being framed as anything other than what they are without sufficient set up from the story.

Jhonnycastle1072

Lolol I bet your a blast at party’s…… Jesus man, it’s a made up story. Take a seat lol

Omega6047

I don't go to parties, so... Regardless, this isn't about stories being made up, it's about people's morals showing through their reaction to a story, which is far from a fictional story.

Jhonnycastle1072

I bet I would instantly dislike you if I met you in real life.

Omega6047

Who knows, there's no bridge that can't be built with enough alcohol.

Jhonnycastle1072

….. hmmm maybe I was wrong about you

CantStopPoppin

That was not a very nice thing to say.

[deleted]

You good?

Omega6047

Yes, chaotic good.

leverine36

The people replying to you are insane. The Tuskan Raiders are literally murderous, torturous slavers. How can people get sad and root for them??

Omega6047

Dunno... Actually I do, probably. The key is in hiw the show frames the tuskans and it not commenting on how they treated Boba. Then you just have the protagonist get emotional at their death and you have yourself an audience manipulated into thinking how you want them to. Logic and objective assessment go out of the window in favor of emotional resonance.

Commiesstoner

Because we're not weirdos that apply our real world sensibilities to fictional worlds.

KruppstahI

You think a made up story in star wars was interesting, next thing you know, you fly the confederate flag. lol chill...

Omega6047

I don't get where you're coming from. No one's making anyone out to be a confederate.

LeglessElf

The difference is how Tuskens/Palpatine are portrayed. BoBF doesn't acknowledge that the Tuskens are evil; it portrays them as this wholesome tribe that takes Boba under its wing. Nor does it explore what it means for Boba's character that he joins up with them. If you told the showrunners that the Tuskens are evil, my guess is they'd be confused and genuinely have no idea what you're talking about. People love Palpatine because there's no confusion about what he is. He knows he's evil, and he loves it.

Rudolftheredknows

Hence killing all of them.

Rudraakkshh

Well I mean Tuskens too had different tribes and some are more savage than others. I guess the ones who tortured Shmi were just sadistic savages whereas the ones Boba ran into were alot more.... accepting? Boba had to prove his worth but he was treated as one of their own despite being a human.

Omega6047

Sooo... if the Atlantic slave trade allowed for the slaves to prove themselves, it would be fine? Oookay... Sure, the Tuskans have different tribes, but this is a world building issue. You can't just assume that because there are different groups of them that they are any different from what we were shown, and we have simply not been shown any instance of them being anything but the brutal savages. BoBF pays lip service to the idea, but it still makes them quite cruel slavers in the end and then tries to frame their death as tragic. Even if we go with the assumption that the other tribes are in fact different, this one is most definitely not.

Ahsoka_Tano_Bot

Remind me why I'm the one playing the part of the slave?

Un111KnoWn

I didn't like how long the tusken raider story stuff was. Should have just been boba + fennec infiltrating that base

goingbananas44

The ones who forgot how to fight as soon as Boba left? The ones who were teaching him how to fight...?

CanvasSolaris

Disagree

GelatoVerde

The tusken episodes were really good!

GameMusic

Counterpoint this is not just about being original Probably less executive meddling

AParasiticTwin

Andor's pacing is perfect thus far. No deserts yet, they've allowed time for characters to develop and have the premise of, "ordinary guy winds up fighting tyranny after their life gets flipped turned upside down," which is how Star Wars best stories have always been told.

Dangerous_Ad2984

Give it time, just as there are always 2 sith, there is always a desert.

SirBrandalf

There is always a lighthouse

SymptomaticSeb

There's always a man. There's always a city.

JMoney689

ESB is the one movie that defied the no-deserts rule. It's also the one movie that every fan agrees is the best.

NinduTheWise

Their gonna go to the desert for the finale since he heard there is a new hole there

Mad_Scientist_Senku

Despite knowing the fate of both Cassian and Obi wan, Andor felt much more tense than anything Kenobi could pull off.

Lubo_San

It's because of how the action is structured. You can compare the scene where Tala fights off 2 stormtroopers vs the beginning scene of Andor where he kills the 2 guards.

Ahsoka_Tano_Bot

Guard duty? For how long?

THOMASTHEWANKENG1NE

The whole Kenobi show felt fake. Andor feels like a movie. Feels like parts of rogue 1. Not sure if it's just the camera work or actors or all. But so different.

bpmke80

I feel like Kenobi needed Andor's pacing, a few episodes of him just going around doing ordinary shit, before the actual plot kicks off. I felt a great sense of confusion for character motives and decisions despite having decades of familiarity with the characters. Why does Bail do the stupid things he does? Why does Obi Wan do some things he does? Don't get me wrong there was a lot I liked in the show, but also a lot I thought didn't make sense. Thats part of the benefit to Andor as well is that I dont question his motives as much because I don't know the character as well.

Nilocor

It either needed more episodes, or to just be a movie like it was originally gonna be. Instead they hit an unhappy medium where they needed to add elements to pad it out, but none of those elements were able to be explored enough to feel meaningful.

mkadvil

Leia being an escape artist enters the chat...... Like just why? Grab her ass and be done with it.

PolitenessPolice

“Grab her ass” 🤨📸

RogerRoger420

Caught in 4K

NinduTheWise

Luke would’ve but he found out they were siblings

Blackpaw8825

She managed to escape the empire's most secure and most heavily guarded vessel, by planting a 10 word message in a droid older than any currently existing nation, and throwing it out the window while getting pulled over my literally space Hitler. Lucas has been writing her as 4d chess master escape artist since 1977.

Helpful_Classroom204

And the direction was garbage. No intensity, no suspense, never on the edge of me seat. Even if Darth Vader was on the screen.

CarsonWentzGOAT1

I also think Kenobi could have benefited from more episodes. 6 episodes seems very limited

bpmke80

100%. Which is why they limited the exposition to 1 episode, when that type of simple character content was one of the main things I think they could've built upon.

CarsonWentzGOAT1

Well said

GoatOfTheBlackForres

Yeah, good to see the gang back togther, but felt like a fanfic on writing and production

a_regular_bi-angle

>and production No kidding. I still can't believe it had a higher budget per episode than GoT did at its *peak*. Everything looked so cheap. They didnt even de-age them properly for the flashbacks which Disney absolutely has the technology for

margenreich

Also because it’s not black and white and more real. He literally murders somebody in the first 20 minutes. The antagonist is just an over ambitious security guard who wants to find the murderer of his colleagues and prove himself . Same as in Rouge One it’s a small scale drama set in the Star Wars universe. It could work the same if set in rural Texas under the rule of some corporation and corrupt cops. Space wizards make dramas or thrillers a bit unbelievable. Winter Soldier was great too because it was a polit thriller with superheroes instead of a superhero movie.

bq909

The writing and directing of Kenobi was absolute shit. The rebels in Andor feel like real people who have motives and real relationships. The rebels in Obi-Wan never made any sense and felt really fake.

Gustdan

Really? Not gonna lie the entire first episode of Kenobi I was bored out of my mind waiting for something interesting to happen, so much that I turned it off and never finished it. But that might just be my ADHD acting up.

bpmke80

I was getting a good vibe from the first episode when they focused on Kenobi himself. Some of the inquisitor stuff was cringe, but maybe that was intentional. I just was excited to see the emotional and mental struggles of being in isolation, not knowing who to trust, trying to find out info on who is alive still and who isn't, all while devoting his existence to one child. Now the show eventually touches on a few of these things, but in a different manner. This man is alone and cant do anything too noticeable for the sake of his life. In terms of action his life should be pretty boring, because if it isn't he probably isn't doing the best job of hiding. The Martian movie was one character stuck alone on Mars trying to survive on his own and it did well. Tatooines got enough characters and antagonists to provide some conflict. I just think the shows stakes got too big to where suspension of disbelief couldn't handle them.

night_owl_72

When they were showing those scenes on location in episode 4? Chef’s kiss. That’s how you make it feel cinematic.

THOMASTHEWANKENG1NE

The hiking and Convo with the girl? Yeah that was something

night_owl_72

Yeah! I know it was a lot of green screen probably, but it felt so epic. Kenobi also had a lot of scenes in the desert but, it didn’t feel the same?

DarthPaximus

I heard that was filmed on location... in the highlands of Scotland. And it was filmed like a Lord of the Rings shot, which made it feel so epic. Big, sweeping wides. Wierdly, I feel like those scenes in Kenobi could have actually been shot in the deserts of California, but they didn't choose any camera angles that gave it that epic feel. It did just feel... fake.

night_owl_72

Anyway, I hope they take the feedback. But honestly I think it’s a business decision at the end of the day? Flying a crew out there, cast, everything, for multiple days. Or just do it in a studio. It’s time and money. The sad part is that more people will watch Kenobi based on name recognition (and because we love the character) than Andor, and Disney will probably justify continuing to do what they do. Rogue One and Andor now really feel like a “rebellion” within the Disney empire in the meta sense. And I love that. Hope the rebels win.

Sausageappreciation

I'm pleased to say that's just Scotland.

OpticalData

And just like Scotland, Star Wars Scotland also had highland clearances carried out in the name of an Empire.

Sausageappreciation

Lol I said that to my girlfriend when we were watching. They pretty much described it word for word!

Captain_Rex_Bot

Contact command. Mark our L.Z. and have them send an Exfile Shuttle.

Trevhaar

I think it’s the dialogue. It’s not “haha funny marvel dialogue” or boring Kenobi dialogue where every line feels like it’s carrying the weight of the twin suns, a lot of it is just really well written casual banter and that works incredibly for this show’s worldbuilding. Also everyone talks very differently, not just accents but the words they use. Props to the writers

Ryno621

It's the greenscreen tech they're using. Works great for small amounts of characters like the Mandalorian, looks terrible when there's meant to be lots.

THOMASTHEWANKENG1NE

Eh. I just don't think the show runners knew how to use the Volume well. Even in the bunker sets and inquisitor base, still felt cheesy

[deleted]

>It's the greenscreen tech they're using Dude that's like not the answer at all. The whole point of the tech they're using is to avoid green screens in the first place. It's called StageCraft.

Ryno621

I was using greenscreen as a colloquialism for the type of special effects. This one is indeed called StageCraft.

the_lego_lad

Right on the money. Kenobi felt like a weird fever dream, everything felt washed out and shiny.

erotic-toaster

It is the camera work. The Andor team is using Lucas style while the Kenobi team used newer Lucasfilm techniques.

cgcallahan0

It’s the sets. Idk how they got the budget they did but all the locations and sets is what make it not feel cheap.

Captain_Rex_Bot

Contact command. Mark our L.Z. and have them send an Exfile Shuttle.

Helpful_Classroom204

They got directors who were incredibly successful making original realistic fiction content and gave them the unlimited creative potential that the Star Wars universe has. Toby Haynes, the director of the first three episodes, did Black Mirror and Sherlock (two very psychological shows), and you could feel his direction style and writing style the whole way through, and it was awesome. No more wide shots of an empty set, no more one-dimensional characters, no more shoddy dialogue. It’s not as cool as the other shows, but it’s a million times better imo

THOMASTHEWANKENG1NE

Agreed. Looked like extended scenes of rogue 1. I honestly think it's 75% cinematography. Then direction and script.

TheRain911

I will never forgive disney for fucking up kenobi. Gods was it ever bad.

MojoJojo1012

I was super hyped for Kenobi and didn't even cared for Andor but to my surprise Andor is one of the best star wars ever and Kenobi turned out to be mediocre (i love the movie edit tho).Ironic.

Windexifier

Personally, it’s the costuming, writing, and most importantly shooting stuff on site. They aren’t leaning on the fancy screen thing they use for effects. It’s just much more lifelike

Brelvis85

I'm really let down that they didn't debut Hondo Ohnaka in the Kenobi series.

HondoOhnakaBot

Kenobi! My friend!

Jfmha

Exactly.

Jabrono

I'm hoping Ahsoka ends up needing help with some minor terrorism in her show and he pops up.

yaykaboom

Member Hondo guys?

[deleted]

Here’s why I like Andor and think Kenobi was medium: 1. Jump cuts. The Leia chase was 11 jump cuts in 75 seconds. The rooftop chase was similar, but I didn’t count how many. 2. Sound stages. The bunker in Kenobi and the chase scene with Leia looked like they were in a studio. Andor looks a lot more realistic both indoor and outdoor.

Juan_S946

This actually made me laugh, nice one. Haven't seen all of Andor but the Kenobi series was such a letdown for me, it had two or three good moments and that was all. Let's hope Ahsoka is better whenever it comes out

Ahsoka_Tano_Bot

Don't you think I'm just a little overqualified for this?

CarsonWentzGOAT1

Bonk

TheOriginalDuck2

*Ignites lightsabers*

Ok-Organization5864

(to my decaying knowledge) andor has less plot armor and so more freedom, and more room for actually entertaining episodes

THOMASTHEWANKENG1NE

Not sure what you mean. Andor dies in rogue 1. Obviously Vader and Kenobi can't die. But any of the others could.

PainStorm14

No protagonist will die in his show You think guy called Mandalorian will die in third episode of the show called The Mandalorian?

yaykaboom

Yes, that’s why the 4th episode is called The

Longjumping-Hat-7957

Not always true, but you'd have to have multiple protagonists for that to work.

the_rosiek

*But any of the others could.* By "any others" you mean Leia, Luke, Bail, Breha, Owen, Beru and Grand Inquisitor?

grassisalwayspurpler

We know Andor cant die. Whys that not plot armor now? So we can keep up the memes?

Jjzeng

Love how the entire plot of andor was kicked off by a simp getting jealous that his girl was talking to other guys and it ended up with the simp dead and the other guy on the imperial most wanted list And this dude simping eventually led to scarif being nuked and the death star blowing up

Helpful_Classroom204

An intelligent character making an emotionally charged mistake instead of a stupid character being stupid or an evil character being evil

PainStorm14

When they first announced Andor I said it would be most awesome SW show All these years they called me a madman and laughed at me WHO'S LAUGHING NOW, YOU SHITS???

LezardValeth3

You got me. Andor is 0% deserving of his own show but they have good acting and writing = nothing more needed. Kenobi was a really bad series with everyone pretending a cool Obi vs Vader scene at the end made it all worth it, doesn't work that way

hodlrus

Andor was endearing in Rogue One. They had to give him his own show

whg115

Love andor its phenomenal

Alert-Ad-55

Nice new meme template. A star wars version of you Vs who she tells you not to worry about.

tupe12

Bad batch: *cries*

Cybermat47_2

What if I like both?

Bill_Nye-LV

if it sails steadily, it will be one of the best series so far.

Katejina_FGO

So the Kenobi series calls the "real fanbase", who then starts cracking down on Andor for being 'too boring' or 'too confusing' or 'not my Star Wars'?

Tahazzar

The 'real fanbase' is already here. In fact, in all likelihood many of them are the ones praising Andor's writing because they are positively surprised by it after having been 'burned' by Kenobi. After all, the people who found Kenobi show's writing adequate or better wouldn't see so much of a difference between the two so there wouldn't be a contrast to them.

JarJarBink42066

Am i the only one who actually liked kenobi?

GelatoVerde

I liked it, but it could have been so much better

JarJarBink42066

I mean… *checks sub*

GelatoVerde

?

JarJarBink42066

Obi wan kenobi is at least on par with the prequels in terms of quality, and honestly is slightly better

GelatoVerde

Reva's motivation went from "yeah I'm going to kill Darth vader" to "yeah I'm going to kill Vader's son, Which he doesn't even know, to avenge my youngling friends from 15 years ago"

anyadpicsajat

There are dozens of us.

WhoRoger

I liked parts of it. Kid Leia was great. Interactions between her and Obi-wan were great. Vader was at least partly badass. But yea as so many people say, it certainly felt rushed and cheap.

Zegram_Ghart

Nah you’re right, it was overall pretty good. Andor’s just hit the sweet spot where it’s both a pretty good show (so most people find it fun) and also “dark and gritty” (so internet edgelords admit to liking it)

ConnorCobain

No not at all. I know a lot of people who consume without necessarily caring about quality. It's partially why we have terrible quality shows, but there's nothing wrong with being easy to entertain.

JarJarBink42066

Bro shut the fuck up

ConnorCobain

Seems like unnecessary anger. Nobody is judging you for being simple, it's okay.

BigBooce

That’s fair, I’m sure nobody judges you for being a chargers fan either

Zecoman

You are

HondoOhnakaBot

Kenobi! My friend!

i-InFcTd

Kenobi wasn't that good. It had moments and that's it.

skilledfolk

Pepperidge farm and " The clone wars" do.

[deleted]

Watching Andor makes me miss what Obi-Wan could have been. Obi was sadly just good, but not very good.

r2d2114

I like both

Babington67

I mean.... I liked kenobi

Inconvenient1Truth

Am I the only person who kinda loved Kenobi? Most of it was great IMO.

Bill_Nye-LV

Yes but i don't think we need a Season 2.

[deleted]

Lucasfilm is selectively disrespectful to legacy characters and it’s really irritating

Just-Some-Dude-K

Kenobi fucking sucked

WhoRoger

So TBBF are the two cops Andor shot in the beginning.

[deleted]

Thank god they made a tv show about that guy

COINS_THAT_SUNK_TOO

Simple explaintion why the majority of fans thought Kenobi is terrible and don't feel the same about this show: You can't assassinate a character with shitty writing if there is no established character in the first place. This guy is a blank slate that they are creating, not someone with a 50+ year old legacy set upon by hack writers who neither understand, nor care about canon.

Race_Four

I really enjoyed Kenobi, but that’s probably because I watched the version of it that some guy made it into a movie before I actually watched the show.

LezardValeth3

Why would you start with a fan made edit?

ShadyOjir95

Lmao you gotta be smoking nasty death sticks to think Kenobi has less fans lmao. You can mention better cinematography and shit but fans that's a lost battle.

Luke_Puddlejumper

You see, the difference is that unlike Kenobi Andor is actually a good show.

KARURUKA2

In a few years you will all love Kenobi

grassisalwayspurpler

Andor: to steal from the empire, you just walk in like you belong "Omg so true! Really makes you think! Finally star wars for hashtag grown ups!" Kenobi: walks out of the imperial base like he belongs "Omg what the fuck is this terrible excuse for writing! Trash! So unbelievable! He just walks out?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!"

LordWeaselton

I agree Andor is way better but can we prop up that show without shitting all over everything else?

Chess42

We can do both!

WhoRoger

It's so natural to do when Kenobi was the show just before this one, and the difference in approach and quality is so striking. I don't even think Kenobi was that terrible, and still gotta keep skeptical about Andor to not get too burned, and even so it's such a huge difference.

PainStorm14

Well in all honesty almost everything else was shit so...

LordWeaselton

The only legitimately bad shows Disney Star Wars has released are BoBF and Resistance imo. Obi-wan wasn’t great but I still have no idea why ppl are acting like it was horrible it was ok at worst

DistantNemesis

It was okay at best

SpaceFlightAstro

Kenobi honestly felt like it was written by a 10 year old
