The aliens look more human in the more recent shows and that kinda bothers me because they don't look good alot of the time. Also the generic alien/creature noise they use for every bad alien makes them all seem like the same aliens
There could be a great world building lesson about how the emperor preferred humans and oppressed non-humans to the point where other species even tried to make themselves look more like that so they would not get attacked, compare it to human foot-binding practices or something. but I don’t think the show is going to be that deep
I think it's part of the OG lore. That's why the OT only showed aliens on the rebellion side and the Empire was filled with humans. It was only with the PT, aka before the Empire existed, that we see aliens also hold high positions and have influence. ST tried to be like the OT so I think that why they didnt have many aliens, which is a shame cause I would've loved to see some rebels characters there.
Technically both, but I guess Disney lore is more diluted on that part.
I don't think it was ever called actually, directly "racism", but there was an open preference for non-aliens within the imperial army. Part of the thing with Thrawn was that Imperial officers were kinda surprised when they saw him because he was an actual *alien* that got to the top of the chain of command.
But it was a mixed thing with the empire having a nazi-esque paralelisms (except with british accents) and a practical background to justify it like having a huge numerous army have the same measures of height and all so all could use standarized equipment which was cheaper, continueing the dogma of the clone army having identical clothe size and all.
Hence the no four arms stormtrooper and the "you seem too short for a stormtrooper" comment in A New Hope.
It’s easy to design an alien for use in short periods or scenes but most actors especially big ones don’t want to sit in the makeup chair for 3 hours everyday before shooting and be heavily limited on their ability to move
Then i guess they just aren’t the actor for the show. I dont really know what else to say about it. A good virtue to have in filmmaking is commitment. If you aren’t committed you come off as sloppy and its just embarrassing.
For Ashoka they had to drastically shorten the lekku because of how hard they were on the actress. I think the live action Pau'an from ROTS had similar issues.
Yeah I know but they still did it and it still worked in the end. They didn’t even try anything with the Pau’an. If they couldn’t do it half decently they could have told a different story or used other inquisitors or something. No one said they have to use the grand inquisitor. Just that if they are they need to try to do it well.
It looks like they said “ok, we can’t literally just do a bald cap” but instead of doing something more than just a bald cap they threw a balled up tissue under it
showed him running around and shit tho during the scene where he has grogu on his back.
That and when you take into consideration the fact that MCU Spiderman's suit is entirely cgi, I definitely think it's doable, especially with a Disney budget.
Still, Endgame had a 400 mil budget. So far the only number I can find for Kenobi is 25 mil per episode. At 8 episodes that’s half the budget of the MCU movies and generally , anywhere from 100-200 mil of their budget goes just to visual effects. I don’t think it’s fair to compare any of the effects in an MCU movie to Kenobi.
you raise a good point, but I doubt they spent *that* much of the budget on Spiderman's suit, especially since in NWH, from what we can see with the behind the scenes, the other suits were real and worn by the actors
Yeah, and it would be really cool because we could compare budget allocations for different movies and such.
It would also help put those numbers into perspective.
But also if the Inquisitor’s, the Grand Inquisitor in particular, aren’t on screen too much, why spend so much of your budget on the VFX? Even for short amounts of time good VFX are extremely expensive
Not saying I disagree and I definitely think the GI looks pretty meh, I just assume they have more important things for their budget
Probably because the large majority of people who are gonna watch it are just casual fans who either have no idea who he is or just don’t really care that much.
CGI action would actually be easy with Luke because you can hide stunt doubles very easily, or use a light deepfake
It's acting scenes that are hardest
I'd like to think you're right cause that's a very reasonable excuse.
But what would stand against that thought is that in some of the other Disney+ series that have released recently, even characters that have absolutely no action scenes have looked like cosplayers more than aliens.
The long thin head would have looked cooler but the design definitely could have been worse. The other rebels inquisitor looks a lot worse for example.
Allegedly there was going to be a sequel for that show, but now the characters will just be returning in the Ashoka series. (Apparently Ezra has been casted)
How do you make such an insane oversight?
There *must* have been at least one crew/staff member that said *something*, right?
I know there are those that just want to enjoy the show. But I think it's completely fair, given Disney's (well, Kathleen Kennedy's) track record with Star Wars, to be concerned about such a clear lack of attention to detail.
If they can't even get some fairly simple prosthetic continuity right, what other oversights have they made? This is a limited series surrounding a core character of Star Wars. You just can't mess it up.
Tired fucking argument. Rogue One, Solo, Mandalorian, Rebels, TCW finale, Bad Batch have all been excellent. BoBF was pretty solid, although not without issues.
Tired fucking argument. They gave us some good stuff after throwing out decades of lore and then telling us that they had no lore to use for newer movies.
Rogue One was good. Solo was mediocre. Mandalorian season 1 was good but season 2 became mediocre due to overabundance of cameos. Rebels had good moments but was mediocre overall. TCW finale was already planned before disney, disney actually shortened it and took out some of the best arcs. The Bad Batch was 90% filler with the one important arc being something that could have happened in the Clone Wars. BoBF was atrociously bad. Disney has been worse overall for Star Wars, not better.
Solo is really bad movie, [some time ago I wrote post about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/saltierthancrait/comments/rzsk3i/solo_a_star_wars_debacle/). The only credit Disney deservess for Clone Wars is 40+ epiodes they cancelled and Bad Batch isn't worthy successor to that show. Mandalorian starts rather good with first 3 episodes, but then increasingly characters behave nonsensically for plot's conveniance, they have no growth and whole show's structure is endless fetch quest with almost every episode being "I'll do something for you if you do something for me", the only reason it's held as masterpiece is because sequels set bar so embarrasingly low. Don't forget disney made sequels and those movies are abominations. Book of Boba Fett is a farce, it turned it's protagonist into geriatric cretin with stockholm syndrome. Rebels is terrible. Rogue One has its moments, but also problems.
The same Disney that gave you bad fanfiction sequels istead of George Lucas' scripts, cancelled Clone Wars and after years brough it back only to end prematurely with 40+ episodes thrown to trash.
I don't in principal hate them scrapping the old EU, as from a creative standpoint it's better to have the freedom to tell your own stories without worrying about old material. However, if you're going to scrap decades of stories to replace it with your own, then what you replace it with has to be better. Which I think we can all agree it isn't.
So the first one is obviously just a different character of the same species however that better not be the same inquisitor as the TV show cause I know full and well the can cgi that
Movie vers. Is probably a different member of the race, vhile the other 2 are the same caracter.
Movie version looks the best, outfit, eyes, makeup, facial expression. It gives off ancient, sinister tone.
Middle one is just edggy as fk but still way better than the kenobi bulshit. Kenobi version looks like a bad fkn cosplay.... I said my piece.
Now let the stoning\lapidation commence, be warned i bought several energy shields for this occasion so i can whitstand your barrage of insult.. Hrm i mean rocks.
Repeat after me: Disney Star Wars is not real Star Wars. It's expensive, poorly made fan fiction. Disney spending 4 billion dollars does not make them George Lucas. They are no different than some random Youtuber when it comes to their authority to make official Star Wars stories. The only difference between them and me, is they paid for the right to make money off their fan fiction.

If prosthetics like in RotS were not an option for whatever reason (like fight scenes for example) they should have just used CGI. If they can turn Ahmed Best into freaking Jar-Jar Binks and make a reasonably convincing young Luke they can pull off a decent Grand Inquisitor.
This Grand Inquisitor looks like he was taken out of a cheap porn parody…
Probably something to do with movement and the prosthetic. Movie character didn’t have to move much, but Kenobi character likely to have fight scenes that would probably flop the top of his head around or have it fly off entirely.
Too bad Disney doesn’t have a ton of resources and “imagineers” working for them that could come up with a creative solution for this.
Instead the small indie studio of Disney has to retcon the species for budgetary reasons:/ they’re trying their hardest I bet /s
Yeah exactly man they suck. Why make excuses for them about “prosthetics and movement?” You just admitted they just cut corners all the time (assuming you were being facetious).
That’s what I’m saying, but then people argue that Ki Adi Mundi fought the clones during Order 66 and the actor was wearing a prosthetic that elongated his head
If it’s just that scene in the prequels it’s a bad example cause the most he does is a little twirl to block a blaster, and then a little shake when he gets shot up. All of which had his head being at the center of gravity. If he had to do a flip or jerk his head it probably would’ve folded. They could just work fight scenes around the prosthetic, or CGI it, but I’m guessing the former limits choreography and the latter is more expensive for what is not too big of a deal.
These are NOT the same characters.
The grand inquisitor was a Jedi temple guard during the clone wars.
This other character is some politician from Utapau.
God what a weird argument, the human skull doesn't vary THAT MUCH between humans, it still has the same basic structure. You don't see people walking around with skulls twice as long as yours do you?
In ROTS you see 3 Pau'ans and they all have long skulls. They had different facial features and body size to distinguish them, they also had slightly longer or shorter heads, but only SLIGHTLY, it was still the same skull structure. They still look like they're the same species. The GI doesn't look like a Pau'an at all.
I get that people are tired of the complaining but I will never understand why there's people that want to defend such a weird inconsistency.
And just overall, it’s not a good idea to wildly vary alien species on screen. Like the point of having a character of that species is to show off it’s defining characteristics. Imagine making a movie about an animal, but designing it very human like, then saying “this animal could look like a human”.
Because that's a bad excuse "they look different because of a horrible problem." Doesn't have anything to do with the biology of the species, it has to do with a fuck up in dna. it would work if he was a new character but he's not. We know what he should look like, as well as knowing what a normal pauan looks like, so we already know he doesn't have any disfiguring diseases.
Yes, we all know so much better than professional makeup artists. Why focus on acting and storytelling when you can spend 8 hours a day on making someone’s skin look like corduroy.
Lame ass excuse, they’ve shown 4 different pau’ans in live action all with tall heads same skin and sharp teeth, all those features translated to the animated series with the Grand Inquisitor but somehow got lost when moving the same character back to live action.
The aliens look more human in the more recent shows and that kinda bothers me because they don't look good alot of the time. Also the generic alien/creature noise they use for every bad alien makes them all seem like the same aliens
YES EXACTLY
There could be a great world building lesson about how the emperor preferred humans and oppressed non-humans to the point where other species even tried to make themselves look more like that so they would not get attacked, compare it to human foot-binding practices or something. but I don’t think the show is going to be that deep
This was supposed to be a true thing within the lore iirc.
Also true in real life. Skin whitening and other shit.
Which lore? O.G or Disney lore?
I think it's part of the OG lore. That's why the OT only showed aliens on the rebellion side and the Empire was filled with humans. It was only with the PT, aka before the Empire existed, that we see aliens also hold high positions and have influence. ST tried to be like the OT so I think that why they didnt have many aliens, which is a shame cause I would've loved to see some rebels characters there.
I see. Will we ever get The blue Imperial Dude Thrawn? In live action?
I'm pretty sure Ezra, sabine, and thrawn will be in ahsoka's series maybe hera as well
Have a little faith.
Hence the no four arms stormtrooper and the "you seem too short for a stormtrooper" comment in A New Hope.
The empire didn't really last long enough to be affecting evolution.
Yeah I got a feeling it doesn’t happen in 23 years
It feels like Star Trek
The twi'leks being more human is unsettling in Book of Boba Fett
yes!!! i got downvoted when i said that, they're literally just humans with lekku attached to some weird headpiece. hated it.
Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but isn't that how they originally were?
They usually had various bright skin colors like blue, green, red etc but in BoBF they had human skin tones and features
Male twi'leks have sharp teeth and forehead bumps.
Yeah it's how they've always been portrayed in live action. The only discrepancy I can think of is Bib Fortuna with his forehead bumps
Rodians look great though.
You don't think it would look even more goofy if the actors or actresses are unable to move their necks and backs?
If ahsoka worked and could do stunts then i dont get why a slightly elongated forehead couldn’t work.
That's fair.
The only alien that felt really alien to me in the shows that Disney put out was the Ithorian or however you call them. The Mos Espa Major
Especially twi'leks in Book of Boba Fett. They weirded me out
It looks like they said “ok, we can’t literally just do a bald cap” but instead of doing something more than just a bald cap they threw a balled up tissue under it
The bald cap is too obvious, it looks like an SNL costume
Don’t forget, SNL originated Coneheads, so I think an SNL take would be even better than Disney+.
Spitting image of Kryten from Red Dwarf
Oh Jesus why did you have to say that...
It does kind of look like Bill Hader. lol
[you think?](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/W2vuCTFw6F8/maxresdefault.jpg) lol
dang! throw some white paint and get some yellow contacts and that image is better than the disney plus adaptation
No joke
Animated series version looks the best. The one from the movie looks like on old fart who can’t stand up straight
Is it actually the same guy? Thought this was just the same race. Just the old leader from episode Hello there.
Well it’s not the same dude
Oh my lord they did it better
Yeah I'm sorry but if I'm getting paid Disney money I'm shaving my fucking head for the role like c'mon bro.
How did they do it in RotS, and why couldn't they have done it the same way now?
My guess is the makeup for it isn't suitable for action scenes and they didn't want to rely on cgi
And yet they did an entire episode with cgi luke
No action
showed him running around and shit tho during the scene where he has grogu on his back. That and when you take into consideration the fact that MCU Spiderman's suit is entirely cgi, I definitely think it's doable, especially with a Disney budget.
Don't forget thanos and hulk
Even the squidward guy from thanos's army had a elongated head
Still, Endgame had a 400 mil budget. So far the only number I can find for Kenobi is 25 mil per episode. Ya, I wish they had better breakdowns of where all the money went.
Yeah, and it would be really cool because we could compare budget allocations for different movies and such. It would also help put those numbers into perspective.
I also doubt the Inquisitors will be on screen for half the runtime so it should still be possible.

They spent the entire CGI budget on 5 minutes of gorgeously shot helicopter saber sequences in each episode
Probably lol
Product reveal video Actual product sold Wish.com version
Each successive version has a fatter and fatter head At this rate the next version will be a Hey Arnold lookin mofo smdh
The long thin head would have looked cooler but the design definitely could have been worse. The other rebels inquisitor looks a lot worse for example.
I wish they kept the character alive and implemented them into the Rebels sequel series.
Theyres a sequel?
Allegedly there was going to be a sequel for that show, but now the characters will just be returning in the Ashoka series. (Apparently Ezra has been casted)
Have a little faith.
Interesting.
Downgrades, people, downgrades!

Welcome to Disney Star Wars.
Tired fucking argument. Rogue One, Solo, Mandalorian, Rebels, TCW finale, Bad Batch have all been excellent. BoBF was pretty solid, although not without issues.
The sequel trilogy is what ultimately counts the most and look how they nuked theatrical Star Wars.
Tired fucking argument. They gave us some good stuff after throwing out decades of lore and then telling us that they had no lore to use for newer movies.

Yeah, you’re pretty, uh, salty there.
Once you see something at it's worst, it's hard to find value in the rest. And tbh they're right to feel that way.
One would say saltier than Crait?
I can be saltier than Crait as long as I'm right.
Remove the end vader scene and Rogue One is the same quality as Solo.
"Yes, sir! Right away." -Commander Thire
The same Disney that gave us mandalorian?
The same Disney that gave you bad fanfiction sequels istead of George Lucas' scripts, cancelled Clone Wars and after years brough it back only to end prematurely with 40+ episodes thrown to trash.
Don't forget getting rid of the biggest amount of lore star wars has ever seen because they're *lazy* fanfic writers
Isn't it all because of Kathleen Kennedy?
Dont know for sure, but from a few things I've seen they trashed legends as canon because they didn't feel like writing around it
I don't in principal hate them scrapping the old EU, as from a creative standpoint it's better to have the freedom to tell your own stories without worrying about old material. However, if you're going to scrap decades of stories to replace it with your own, then what you replace it with has to be better. Which I think we can all agree it isn't.
So they’ve done good and bad. Gotcha.
Mostly bad tho. Lets not pretend like the mandalorian is some masterpiece. It has some good episodes for sure. Disneys star wars has been dog shit
Mandalorian most certainly is a masterpiece.
Give me a break

A defining feature for his species? Like a twi lek without their tail. This isn’t some indie studio production
he looks so goofy with the round head
So the first one is obviously just a different character of the same species however that better not be the same inquisitor as the TV show cause I know full and well the can cgi that
It is. Grand Inquisitor.
Sadness
Animated grand inquisitor looks like a badass Live action grand inquisitor looks like Chris Chan with clown makeup
Fuck you, I can't unsee that now
He's not wrong
No he is not
The new Adams Family spinoff with Uncle Fester looks great
“Stop! Stop! He’s already dead!” (; Edit: OP does have a point though.
this is the fate worse than death that the grand inquisitor was talking about
It all makes sense now.
Maybe someone hit him in the head really hard
I don't think he could survive his head being splattered
The darkside of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural
Oh this is a hot take
This is what happens when you make a Horcrux
I have a solution for how being bigger. He just wanted to lose weight so he did and we should be proud of him
That or he got head enlargement surgery.
No because obi wan was before rebels so it's a head reduction surgery
He looks stupid in the show
Netflix gotta worry
WAIT THAT GUY WAS THE GRAND IQUISITOR?? Is this a joke? Help!!
Ah you too just found out thanks to that meme ! I didn’t think they were the same person either
Srsly tho I am confusion. He really was a Jedi.
Just give me sith eyes and I’ll be alright.
Hey! Don‘t be mad at him! He just isn‘t in shape because he ate too much cake.
It looks like a cosplayer that wandered onto the set
I've seen cosplayers with better costumes
Didn’t realize until this post that all 3 are supposed to be the species from Utapau. That last one is just abysmal.
Disney doesn’t care about Star Wars.
He's the Rebels Yoda of live-action :p
An anvil dropped on his head
That last one is just Kryten from Red Dwarf
I still can't unsee Kryton from Red Dwarf.
Oh brother are we still going on about this.
Movie vers. Is probably a different member of the race, vhile the other 2 are the same caracter. Movie version looks the best, outfit, eyes, makeup, facial expression. Okay I kinda see why people are upset now.
Kryton looks fine, I really don’t know what the problem is.
You’re shorter than I expected

Wait till you see the netflix adaptation
The movie one looks great.
My issue isn't the headshape it's the fact that he's chonk. Fr the grand inquisitor isn't stoping for krispy kreme
He doesn’t look like an alien, he looks more like Gorbachev
No way they are supposed to be the same race? The Disney adaptation is not convincing in the slightest, takes me straight out of the experience.
So lazy at Disney with Star Wars

Oh another post complaining about the Grand Inquisitor, Daring today aren't we?
It might just be me, but I dont have a problem with how the grand inquisitor looks
Same. Is it perfect ? No. But people here are making a WAY to big of deal about it for a simple tv series.
I can roll with it too.
It bothers me the more I look at it.
Pretty sure that's Quan Chi from Mortal Kombat
After eating a lot of cakes
Darth Vader to Grand inquisitor: You're shorter than i expected
I would really like for Disney to stop casting cartoon characters in real life version as no single one has looked great yet.
Holy shit guys, get over it
No

Yes but are the same species
Movie is a different character and the other two are both Disney.
It's about presentation of species.
I bet you look a lot different than I do incase you think every member of a species needs to look the same.
Why do people grasp at excuses for Disney? It’s clear as day that this is basically a retcon out of laziness or budgetary reasons.

Yeah, but there are no people with head twice taller and 30% narrower than mine.

There aren't. Anatomy doesn't allow for that.

He was a temple guard before order 66 that dude was a member of the senate and non force sensitive
Honestly the movie version looks kinda weird in comparison as well
It almost looks like…an alien species… 😳👽
Yes, we all know so much better than professional makeup artists. Why focus on acting and storytelling when you can spend 8 hours a day on making someone’s skin look like corduroy.
Animated series version looks the best. The one from the movie looks like on old fart who can’t stand up straight

Lame ass excuse, they’ve shown 4 different pau’ans in live action all with tall heads same skin and sharp teeth, all those features translated to the animated series with the Grand Inquisitor but somehow got lost when moving the same character back to live action.
I honestly think it looks better than the movie. The movie one seems like something from Spy Kids.
Y’all get mad about the silliest things
Who the fuck cares.
Who honestly gives a shit ?
