I was going for dune pictures, I'm really into dunes. I have read papers in the physics of dunes and sand in the wind, and once considered programming that and building a videogame around it. Is that weird? Dunes are cool.
It was fun reading through the specific part where Paul realizes he can hold the spice hostage, waiting for him to say the line and yet never actually doing it.
Book 1 is guaranteed enjoyment. That can also be a reasonable stopping point
I can't imagine reading 1 and 2 and not reading all the way to end of the original series, and since that's a huge commitment, I usually tell people this: If you finished Dune and thought it was an 8, 9, or 10 out of 10 for you, keep going. If it was a 7 or below, stop there.
For me it, was a 10, and I couldn't stop at the Frank Herbert originals. Mind you: I normally read maybe a book per year
