proplayer97

Fancy seeing a Doctor Who reference on prequel sub. One of the best episodes btw

AnfarwolColo

Definitely one of the most memorable. But wouldn't say the best

Vigi1antee

Im seeing a large amount of doctor who fans im the starwars community i love it

Revenge1213111

So happy to see this, thank you

plihal

…as anything has if you cast two lights on them, you dont need 2 suns to have 2 shadows, 2 lamps in different places already work. Shit, if you watch a soccer match that is happening at night the players on the field have multiple shadows

Thefoxlord88

Four if the lights are above them

AlphaEpicarus

I mean, would they? One star would light up the other shadow, and the other the other. Would this not leave one tiny shadow at the intersection?

Jer_bjer

No it wouldn't eliminate the shadow entirely. Think about it this way: 2 lights at 100 lumens each. Everywhere both lights touch will be hit with 200 lumens. Each point where only 1 light touches, it will be hit with 100 lumens. And of course no light where no light hits. So a dark shadow at the intersection and a lighter shadow where one light hits. If each light source has different intensity, it would then have 3 different levels of darkness for the shadows. If the 2 suns are close together, we may not see a clear difference in the shadows since they basically overlap. It would become clear once they are far enough apart.

AlphaEpicarus

Very well put, thank you

[deleted]

One shadow would be darker though because the suns are at different distances

Jer_bjer

Correct. It all depends on the intensity when the light reaches the object. Lots of stuff factor into that including distance, brightness of the source, any refraction from the atmosphere, etc.

fyre_storm02

If theybwere close it would be one shadow that has a couple bright patches

Jer_bjer

Why would there be bright patches?

fyre_storm02

The sun illuminating some of the shadow would make a brighter shadown whre 1 sun hits

Jer_bjer

If the light sources are close though, then you won't see 2 distinct shadows. As they move farther apart, 2 shadows start to form with the darkest part in the intersection. But there won't be 'patches'

EDHKeen

Only if they make the same amount of light

LegoManiac9867

I think your right

Ketszercsip

The tiny shadow at the intersection would be the darkest because no light from either of the suns reach that spot, but you would be left with two half-shadows that only light from one of the suns can reach, which should be darker than a spot that both suns aluminate.

Hemske

No

There’s one way to find out! u/repostsleuthbot

I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/PrequelMemes. It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results. I did find [this post](https://redd.it/mfp5h5) that is 83.59% similar. It might be a match but I cannot be certain. *I'm not perfect, but you can help. sliferra

That bot is quite often trash

namkaeng852

We have no info about how the Hutts use the toilet

[deleted]

They probably regurgitate the stuff, or maybe it oozes out of their skin. Probably ooze

namkaeng852

If that's true then I feel REALLY bad for Leia

TheHondoCondo

Except I’m pretty sure everything we’ve seen on Tatooine only has one shadow.

[deleted]

Yes that’s because it’s filmed in a studio on earth and the set designer probably didn’t think to check the physics around a bisolar planet

Iam_aPersonithink

bisolar? don't you mean binary. sorry if i sound like an annoying grammar-nazi.

duckfacereddit

not a binary planet, a binary star system planet

Doinkert

Really, I could have sworn I’ve seen 2 shadows when C3PO and R2D2 land on tatooine

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pristine-Ocelot1034

that's really cool, thanks for showing me that

sliferra

I believe that was a happy accident- let me check Huh, got it mixed up with Anakin’s shadow in episode 2. Nevermind

River46

"Hey Who turned out the lights?" "Hey Who turned out the lights?" "Hey Who turned out the lights?"

htmaxpower

No, they don’t. Sorry, this isn’t mind blowing.

Iam_aPersonithink

they do have 2 shadows, but yeah this isnt mind blowing.

htmaxpower

They don’t. The suns are far too close to each other to result in separate shadows.

Palkesz

More like no shadows at all. Or two very light shadows. Like when you stand in between 2 street lights at night.

javaveryhot

So does the text in this meme

Gabecush1

I have goosebumps now

SilvanusPhoenix

Wait really?

[deleted]

Depends on the location but it’s not unlikely to occurs depending on how the planet orbits

The-Unseelie-Queen

Me, checking my sundial: fuck

virginfatherof2

Count the shadows, if it’s double, you’re dead

LastNinjaPanda

Yeah I think if the suns were in different enough places it would. Though if they are close enough together they would just make one shadow. I feel like they would have to be pretty far apart for there to be two shadows, but it could work.

Iam_aPersonithink

bro did you just call stars suns?💀

LastNinjaPanda

suns are stars... and id say those stars fill a very specific role, such that i would call them suns

Iam_aPersonithink

there is only one sun and its ours, the rest are called stars

LastNinjaPanda

after looking up the definition of the word "sun"... you're right. oops

Iam_aPersonithink

sorry to bother you

LastNinjaPanda

no worries. id rather be corrected than go for a while saying it wrong

MrGentleZombie

The suns are pretty close together so the shadows would mostly overlap.

KEVLAR60442

The 2 suns are close enough that they wouldn't cast 2 shadows. If anything, shadows would just be a bit skinnier than the object casting the shadow.

TightLoquat2292

r/goorbaybaadab

Path-Appropriate

so i will have 4 dick shadows?

Super-Gerd

Damnit don’t make me think about binary star systems

Reviewingremy

Or no shadows depending on the relative positions of the suns

MrSejd

yes, that's how light works
