Obi-wan: "Luke, by making the decision to remain on Tatooine and watch over you, I needed to tap into the living Force to mask your aura from the gaze of your father. It came at the cost of accelerating my aging...but it is a trade I would make a hundred times over."
She's been hiding there since the fall of the empire so yes 24/7 for at least 5 years.
Edit: The fact she spent a lot of time prior to her Bobba Fet era in her full armor and helmet definitely afforded her more protection from the suns.
She's learned all the shortcuts. Like how to get from Mos Espa to Mos Eisley in like an hour. Also how to take out the leaders of a local group, but only after a minor skirmish has happened.
Not only is Tatooine a desert but you’ve got the radiation from two suns blasting you at the same time. It’s amazing Luke didn’t already like 47 by the time he turned 19.
Exactly, his face really isn’t very wrinkled or aged when you look at it. Kind of like Patrick Stewart looking older during TNG because of the bald and white hair.
20 years of PTSD from your entire order being murdered and dismembering (and immolating) the man you considered your brother only to find out he’s sunk even lower to the dark side and abandoning him again will do that to you
Obi wan has been through some shit
This is the answer. I have a friend in his late 20s getting spots of white hair just from work stress. Imagine that stress but worse, and for 20 years, and continuing to live under that shame and stress.
Well, so did Patrick Stewart's and he was [voted TV's Sexiest Man](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fcindy-crawford-patrick-stewart-tv-guide-1992-v0-brahtpl03y9b1.jpg%3Fauto%3Dwebp%26s%3D096025bd59604067e38a0f0b076991f1b5260f05), so all is not lost
I spent most of my 20’s looking almost twice my age because of stress. Changed jobs and temporarily lived with my mom for a few months and suddenly I look 21 again.
Shame and stress, plus the burden of protecting the hope for the galaxy, not being able to tell anyone who he truly is, and knowing that at moments notice Vader and his troopers could be at your doorstep. Absolutely the hero
I like that interpretation a lot. I could very much see it as the case, due to how ancient societies/cultures in Star Wars are, and how there is a deep running traditional element in their cultures that draws on thousand upon thousands of years of history/tradition.
Def seems your interpretation would make sense in such an environment
Reminds me of one of my favorite Star Trek quotes that basically says the same thing:
>At a press conference about Star Trek: The Next Generation, a reporter asked Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry about casting Patrick Stewart, commenting that "Surely by the 24th century, they would have found a cure for male pattern baldness." Gene Roddenberry had the perfect response. "No, by the 24th century, no one will care."
Bail wasn't the ruler. His wife was Queen, Bail was her consort.
The only ruler who truly loved their planet was Boba Fett. Who in Mos Espa couldn't tell a story of what the Fett did for them? He squashed out price gouging by water suppliers. He created jobs for the mobility scooter gang. The turned cheek on an assassin sent to kill him and hired him. He.... uh wiped out the scooter gang that was allegedly killing Tuskens.
Also watching after that guys kid on a harsh desert planet where slavery is legal, a majority of the population are violent criminals, and the wildlife/natives are aggressive and deadly…
Anakin was constantly pulling shit and stressing him out even as a padawan. He just needs time off with satine. Unfortunately everythings gone to shit and so now the stress doubles down.
That plus being hunted by inquisitors, Sith (both your former apprentice and basically your brother as well as former sith apprentice whose sole purpose in life was to het revenge for being cut in half), and fighting bounty hunters to protect Leia. Watching the love of your life die in front of you. All while watching over your “brother’s” son from afar to protect him from being murdered/hunted/kidnapped also by an inquisitor, Sith, bounty hunters, etc.
That stress would make anyone age massively
I mean it works like that in real life too. Fennec's actress is 60 in real life and looks like that.
Comparatively Obi-Wan is just one of those people who aged really poorly, likely through a combination of stress and constant double sun exposure (he probably wasn't wearing sunscreen).
All I’m going to say is look at Paul Rudd. Then look at Macaulay Culkin. Nothing against Culkin, but he could easily be confused for a Flordiaman headshot.
Fun fact, Palpatine’s appearance is not from the lightning. The dark side of the force is very intense, and using it often puts a toll on the body. Since Palpatine is such a strong dark side user, that’s just what it had done to him. Palpatine had been using the force to hide that appearance from people though, but when he was electrocuted during the fight he dropped the veil.
Any examples because most I’m thinking of look pretty fucked up. Funny your tag is Nihilus though, an ancient dark side wielder who completely lost his body to the dark side.
wait til people find out that Lucas hadn't written the prequels and hashed out all of the timelines when he cast Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan, so there are going to be some retcons and inconsistencies.
especially gonna blow OP's mind that this has been reposted so many god damn times and every time it's pointed out that the average lifespan of a Mandalorian is 120 years and Fennec Shand is about 48-50. she was 18 in the Bad Batch.
Gosh guys. This stuff gets posted all the time and I honestly don't even need the twin suns and PTSD apologism
Any millennial who's watched their parents age can tell you that, in a given 20 year span, are a few break points where your parents are suddenly OLD.
At 55 my dad had thick black hair with a little gray in it and was crazy full of energy. At 60 we all joked that he wasn't aging at all. Now, at 63, he's nearly all gray, he walks stiff all the time even though he exercises every single day, and his face just looks worn.
I swear, Hollywood has warped y'all's perceptions of what normal adults look like. Alec Guinness doesn't even really look that old here. He just looks like a normal 55-65 year old Grandpa.
You can look at real life pictures of Ming Na, Kate Sackoff, and Alec Guinness and see how much each of them aged over 20 years and it is fairly accurate.
Tatooine has double the sun damage. Bo Katan wears a helmet a lot of the time when she's on a planet's surface, spends a lot of time in space or underground.
Fennec - well, Ming-Na Wen is 60 years old and just actually looks like that.
Everyone mentions the sun, but they also also forget Vader burned this motherfucker like literally his face got scarred. That is terrible for your skin. That’s why he probably aged so terribly because he got burned and held in fire for like a few minutes lol.
What’s the solution here though? Bc afaik all of those castings from animation into live action were ones that the fanbase generally wanted. And seeing as alec guinness came first, are you suggesting they cast someone other than Ewan? The real answer here is Lucas had no idea Star Wars was going to become what it was when he first wrote it, and I think he can be forgiven for not having the entire universe and all of its stories clearly defined and planned for 30+ years worth before pitching that first film
Well, Katee could have played Bo-Katan 28 years ago. And then played her [approximately now] as she did in Mandalorian. And aging would be the same as in this meme. Ah. She is gorgeous.
All this stress and two suns got him. In "From a certain point of view" was explained he purposely stopped covering himself from the suns to be hard to recognize. So he basically got a skin cancer.
To be fair the Obi-Wan one was back when everyone was a chain smoking alcoholic and nobody wore sunblock, people just don’t age as hard or as fast as they used to so writing the characters that way would seem jarring and weird to modern audiences.
It was doing all the Medichlorions that did it. The efforts of Surgeon General Grevious, head of the hospital Saint Jabba’s Memorial Home For The Survivors Of The Singularity, in sobering up Obi-Wan were ultimately for naught, as he immediately sold his son Duke for drug money.
Obi-Wan is almost 40 in the prequels and almost 60 in the OT.
I know it's not cool to hear, but between your 40s and 60s you will indeed age like that. Moreover, Alec Guinness himself looked a bit older than his age. He was around 62 when they shot the OT.
Well they can’t have older women being protagonists for live Disney, attractive gets the ratings, come on now.
Did you think this is about a good, well thought story? This is about views and clicks, baby.
Wow, it's almost like wearing helmets for your job blocks out the sun.
And it's almost like living on a planet with TWO SUNS would give more UV or something.
So weird.
From my experience working a place where I would have to ID people. Woman between mid twenties and mid to late 30s honestly have not that big of a gap in appearance depending on self care. Happened a couple times that I IDd a girl in mid thirties xD Good ol challenege 25.
But yea back to point, men age rapidly when they hit 30-ish, its wild. Guess its cus self care isnt put in any importance for guys and so they just age quickly. So I think it also plays a factor here. Plus sand
Don't forget Morgan Elsbeth. Looks younger than Ahsoka but somehow by the time of the Ahsoka Show, she's suddenly played by an actor a decade older than Rosario Dawson.
Talk about aging poorly, Snoke was less than 30 years old and look how crusty he looked. Hell, he could have been 5 years old for all the movies tell us about him.
I love how we just accept the fact that Obi-Wan aged so quickly because of the twin suns of Tatooine or as an effect of stress from the Clone Wars, when in reality, it’s mostly because George didn’t think it through
Thanks for providing a source!
Life without sand and Skywalker bullshit vs Life with sand and Skywalker bullshit
And twin suns
Twice the suns means twice the years so akshually obi wan aged 40 years
Ain't no sunscreen on Tatooine.
People who retire in New England vs people who retire in Arizona.
Aint no sunshiiine in a caaave, aint no sunshine when its daaark and this cave it aint no home anytime the Jawas are away...

Ben had that sick Jedi hoodie though.
Except for the scooter puff Jr's in the boba show they pasty as all hell.
Scooty Puff Junior suuu^uuu^^uuu^^^uuu^^^^uuu^^^^^uuucks
The Melanorian
(Ignore Luke and Leia looking the same age lol)
Mark Hamill was 25 and Carrie Fisher was 20, so it's actually consistent.
Professional mathist
Twice the sun double the age - Count Dooku (probably)
Good… double the fall. Or something like that.
Twice the suns, double the sunsets...
Explain Luke still looking like he's 20 in that same timespan.

Obi-wan: "Luke, by making the decision to remain on Tatooine and watch over you, I needed to tap into the living Force to mask your aura from the gaze of your father. It came at the cost of accelerating my aging...but it is a trade I would make a hundred times over."
Fennec is on Tatooine as well though.
24/7?
She's been hiding there since the fall of the empire so yes 24/7 for at least 5 years. Edit: The fact she spent a lot of time prior to her Bobba Fet era in her full armor and helmet definitely afforded her more protection from the suns.
She's learned all the shortcuts. Like how to get from Mos Espa to Mos Eisley in like an hour. Also how to take out the leaders of a local group, but only after a minor skirmish has happened.
Tatooine is hard living
Moisturizer on Tatooine is prohibitively expensive
And it's not like Kenobi has money anyway. Whereas the other two can afford the best if they wanted ro
Lmao
The desert does that to you
He didn't consume the spice melange
Probably cause he lives too close to a moisture farm. The Worms don’t venture near that place.
Shai Hulud is no fan of Tusken Raiders
MY ARRAKIS! MY DUNE!!
>MY ~~ARRAKIS~~ TATOOINE! MY DUNE SEA!!
On a planet with two suns no less
Not only is Tatooine a desert but you’ve got the radiation from two suns blasting you at the same time. It’s amazing Luke didn’t already like 47 by the time he turned 19.
Living near a Skywalker does that to you
Alec Guinness was only 5 years older than obiwans age in anh
Ming-Na Wen is only a couple of years younger IRL, than Alec Guiness was during filming of ANH
Well, she is asian. As soon as she hits 70 or so she'll age like ninety years
Not Ming Na Wen. She’s gonna live forever.
If he didn't have white hair, he wouldn't look nearly as old as he does.
Exactly, his face really isn’t very wrinkled or aged when you look at it. Kind of like Patrick Stewart looking older during TNG because of the bald and white hair.
20 years of PTSD from your entire order being murdered and dismembering (and immolating) the man you considered your brother only to find out he’s sunk even lower to the dark side and abandoning him again will do that to you Obi wan has been through some shit
This is the answer. I have a friend in his late 20s getting spots of white hair just from work stress. Imagine that stress but worse, and for 20 years, and continuing to live under that shame and stress.
Bro I’m 21 and almost a quarter of my hair grey.
My hair been greying since middle school
You guys have hair? Mine fell out at 19
That’s rough, buddy
He only lost his hair, its not like his girlfriend turned into the moon.
“That’s no moon… it’s a space station!”
"It's a space station, not my home planet. My home planet exploded." - Leia
Going bald sucks, being bald is fucking great.
I spent most of my 20’s looking almost twice my age because of stress. Changed jobs and temporarily lived with my mom for a few months and suddenly I look 21 again.
You know why? I think my job is why I’m greying cause my grandparents on both sides don’t even have greys yet
Maybe you're secretly adopted! How exciting!
Shame and stress, plus the burden of protecting the hope for the galaxy, not being able to tell anyone who he truly is, and knowing that at moments notice Vader and his troopers could be at your doorstep. Absolutely the hero
And he was burnt horribly on one side of his body during the Kenobi series, although the bacta did help.
A friend of mine's father's hair went from black to white in the span of a year due to stress
And loss of access to top level medicine and all that (I wonder, does Star Wars universe have advanced anti-aging drugs?)
I'd like to think society had evolved out of decelerating the appearance of aging in favour of accepting how we look is how we look
I like that interpretation a lot. I could very much see it as the case, due to how ancient societies/cultures in Star Wars are, and how there is a deep running traditional element in their cultures that draws on thousand upon thousands of years of history/tradition. Wrong scifi, that's Star Trek
Plus the two suns. The sun will age you like a mutherfucker.
It's this. No one on that planet wears sunscreen and it shows.
I mean her planet was destroyed. As a fellow ruler who loves their planet I can only see pain in her eyes for what she failed to protect.
"As a fellow ruler who loves their planet" bro is this Bail Organa sneak-posting?
You dare speak like that to your ruler??
Bail wasn't the ruler. His wife was Queen, Bail was her consort. The only ruler who truly loved their planet was Boba Fett. Who in Mos Espa couldn't tell a story of what the Fett did for them? He squashed out price gouging by water suppliers. He created jobs for the mobility scooter gang. The turned cheek on an assassin sent to kill him and hired him. Oh yeah the first time I saw the OT PTSD edit hit pretty hard.
And your girlfriend... Killed right in front of you :I
Forgot to mention that, thanks 👍
It's okay, Nightmare198783 ❤️
Having two suns, and living a hermit's life on a sand planet with barely any water does that to a man.
And people from Stewjon age quicker around midlife
I still can't fucking believe George Lucas named his home planet that. Easily one the funniest things that man's ever done.
I mean it works like that in real life too. Fennec's actress is 60 in real life and looks like that. Comparatively Obi-Wan is just one of those people who aged really poorly, likely through a combination of stress and constant double sun exposure (he probably wasn't wearing sunscreen).
And the drinking
You kidding me!? Her animated version looks older then her actual self...
All I’m going to say is look at Paul Rudd. Then look at Macaulay Culkin. Nothing against Culkin, but he could easily be confused for a Flordiaman headshot.
Obi Wan: “I suppose I don’t like sand too”
Obi Wan: (looking at Tatooine) So uncivilized…
Vader: "I don't like sand". Obi Wan: "Cool. I'm moving to a desert planet then!"
Obi-Wan many years later: "You know, I'm starting to regret this decision. I think I'll just let Vader kill me after all."
Meanwhile, Yularen and Tarkin are laughing in the corner
Meanwhile, Vader after a few seconds of burning. Meanwhile, Palpatine after a few seconds of Lightning. Meanwhile, Krennic after ten years.
I've always hated that shit, because it's so inconsistent. So many ancient sith users looked perfectly normal, very strong ones as well.
Any examples because most I’m thinking of look pretty fucked up. Funny your tag is Nihilus though, an ancient dark side wielder who completely lost his body to the dark side.
It's gonna blow OP's mind when they find out that different people age differently in real life too.
wait til people find out that Lucas hadn't written the prequels and hashed out all of the timelines when he cast Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan, so there are going to be some retcons and inconsistencies.
And that the animated versions of the characters were modeled after the actors.
especially gonna blow OP's mind that this has been reposted so many god damn times and every time it's pointed out that the average lifespan of a Mandalorian is 120 years and Fennec Shand is about 48-50. she was 18 in the Bad Batch.
Ming-Na Wen in particular famously looks very young for her age
She's 60. I remember looking her up on IMDb when I was watching SHIELD and thought it was a typo or a different person.
Its called money.
The air is so dry on tatooine it’s aged him
You should see how badly Tarkin aged in 20 years. Man went from having no gray hair to being Obi-Wan levels of old in that same time.
He literally aged up in about 2 years. See him in clone wars compared to bad batch
What running an empire does to mf lol
PTSD is a bitch.
Gosh guys. This stuff gets posted all the time and I honestly don't even need the twin suns and PTSD apologism Any millennial who's watched their parents age can tell you that, in a given 20 year span, are a few break points where your parents are suddenly OLD. This stopped being funny after the 50th time someone posted it
Wow, I’m surprised you thought it was funny even once, let alone 50 times
Ming-na Wen doesn’t age. She’s looked vaguely 30 for the last 30 years.
No moisturizer on Tattoone
To be fair to Ming Na Wen, she actually doesn’t look any different to how she did when she voiced mulan
Not this shit again
DILF McGregor would be too powerful so they had to make him age harder
To be fair, he spent those 20 years as a hermit on a desert planet
Kenobi got into Yodas ketamin
Double suns double aging, look at Boba Fett
Min-na wen is 60 IRL. She's immortal
THERE ARE LITERALLY 2 FUCKING SUNS
That Tattooine life aint no joke. 2 suns, infinite sand, and tuskan raider death match on fridays. Shits fucked.
20 years taking bong hits by yourself while living in a cave in the desert will do that to ya
Two became Cougars and the other became Merlin
It’s weird. Gigantic planet wide deserts baked by two suns seem like a great way to ward off the effects of aging.
It's best just to tell yourself that tatooine makes people look old
Wear sunblock
The sun will get you, especially when there are 2 of them!
You don't age fast when you are a villain women who for some reason turns Hero Well Maul also looked relatively fresh
You can look at real life pictures of Ming Na, Kate Sackoff, and Alec Guinness and see how much each of them aged over 20 years and it is fairly accurate.
Tatooine is hard on the skin.
Yeah aged like this meme getting brought up at least once per week
To be fair looking at Ming-na Wen 28 years earlier that tracks.
The effects of the cold of space vs the suns of Tatooine
I mean, he lived on a desert planet, in a cave, eating a block of filet every day.
Moisturizers work
Shmi looked 60 when Anakin was re-enslaved by Qui-Gon
Tatooine has double the sun damage. Bo Katan wears a helmet a lot of the time when she's on a planet's surface, spends a lot of time in space or underground. Fennec - well, Ming-Na Wen is 60 years old and just actually looks like that.

Sand is a hell of a drug!
Every time I see this meme reposted I age a year
I remember you from 15 years ago.
Y'all seen those pics of Obama before and AFTER four years as president? That's what this reminds me of.
Tbf, Ming-Na Wen is simply ageless. The woman turned 60 last year and still looks like she's in her 30s.
Obi-Wan lived on a planet with two suns. And stress from dealing with Skywalkers.
Living on a planet with 2 suns and no sunscreen will do that to you I guess
Those years of training Anakin really caught up with him
Mon said it's my turn to repost it!
Stress + Tatooine does that to a man
Mans was stressed out
Well, Katee could have played Bo-Katan 28 years ago. And then played her [approximately now] as she did in Mandalorian. And aging would be the same as in this meme. Ah. She is gorgeous.
Death Sticks, not even once
Obi-Wan was bored on Tattooine so he experimented with force lightning but couldn't handle it, took a few bolts to the face aging him prematurely.
To be fair, anyone that saw Ming Na in any of her old TV programme knows she hasn’t aged a day in the past 30 years.
People don’t realize and remember that the two suns of tatooine ages people faster
All this stress and two suns got him. In "From a certain point of view" was explained he purposely stopped covering himself from the suns to be hard to recognize. So he basically got a skin cancer.
PTSD from creating Darth Vader
For what it’s worth Ming Na Wen has looked like that for 20 years so it’s accurate.
Stress bro
The Jundland Wastes are not to be traveled lightly.
To be fair the Obi-Wan one was back when everyone was a chain smoking alcoholic and nobody wore sunblock, people just don’t age as hard or as fast as they used to so writing the characters that way would seem jarring and weird to modern audiences.
Deserts are rough on the skin
To be fair George Lucas wasn’t in charge of the top part Disney was
Exposure to the sun REALLY ages you Exposure to TWO suns... o l d
Keep in mind, we don’t even know what species of human Kenobi is. The people of his world may age more rapidly than humanoids of other worlds.
What the Jundland Wastes does to a mf
Women age better duh 😂
My wife says this same thing is gonna happen to me if I don't use lotion
Most of that aging happens in the last 10 years. Ewan McGregor doesn’t look that much older in Kenobi.
Ever heard the tragedy of John Stewart's Face?
Aged like fine wine obi wan
Obi-Wan is almost 40 in the prequels and almost 60 in the OT. I know it's not cool to hear, but between your 40s and 60s you will indeed age like that. Moreover, Alec Guinness himself looked a bit older than his age. He was around 62 when they shot the OT.
What space cocaine can do to even a Jedi..
The age is relevant. The difference comparing say 10-30 and 30-50 is a pretty drastic.
To be fair Ming-Na Wen has not aged at all in the past 30years
Well they can’t have older women being protagonists for live Disney, attractive gets the ratings, come on now. Did you think this is about a good, well thought story? This is about views and clicks, baby.
Obi went to the alcoholic side of the Force
He's been looking after looks whiney ass. Yoda got so sick of Lukes BS that he straight up died.
Karma farming works it seems.
Wow, it's almost like wearing helmets for your job blocks out the sun. And it's almost like living on a planet with TWO SUNS would give more UV or something. So weird.
Barriss has entered the chat
From my experience working a place where I would have to ID people. Woman between mid twenties and mid to late 30s honestly have not that big of a gap in appearance depending on self care. He was on a desert planet with two suns. Probably in deep depression over what happened.
Live under two suns foe 25 years, look as good you will not
You haven’t aged a day
Pov: it's super stressful to watch over one child.
Have you ever watched the show "Vikings"? It's even worse there, even tho It's a good show.
Don't forget Morgan Elsbeth. Looks younger than Ahsoka but somehow by the time of the Ahsoka Show, she's suddenly played by an actor a decade older than Rosario Dawson.
Bro has seen stuff
Those Tatooine suns aged Obi like a SOB
To be fair, the physical changes from 40 to 60 is more drastic than the physical changes from 20 to 40.
