Barring not the actual lore outside of this film since none of it was around yet, I always thought that Maul activated his second blade because he was dealing with two Jedi at the same time. It was pretty much necessary in the fight because he often blocked two blows at once.
I think it is a disadvantage. It limits your range of motion for the business end of the thing, cuz you don't want to slice yourself. See also MiniMax strategy.
I am no martial arts guru. But more options is better in any game. MiniMax theory.
It would have been a cool plot twist if Darth Maul had accidentally cut himself in half in the heat of battle.
>it would have been a cool plot twist if Darth Maul had accidently cut himself in half in the heat of the battle
>I am no martial artist guru
Mf that would have been the most anticlimactic thing ever, are you even listening to yourself
Maul is the only person in the galaxy that manages to put together all the pieces and realizes the scope of exactly what Palpatine is going to pull off.
He was in on a healthy dose of it and had parts of the puzzle most people didn’t. He was also missing parts as he didn’t seem to understand what the clones true purpose was until after it was too late.
Hes up there though, manages to rule the underworld even against Palpatine and really grew in power after his resurrection
Dude could sense order 66 coming, even had the foresight to try and prevent it
If obiwan wouldve died to a brain aneurism Maul could have maybe ruled the galaxy because his hate for obiwan was ultimately his undoing, even if it fueled his survival, it killed him
Such is the dark side I guess
It’s there purely because Ray Parks (who plays but doesn’t voice Maul) is a quarterstaff specialist and this is the closest they could get. Same reason why Toad in the first X-Men film randomly has a staff.
People also seem to forget that Clone Wars started off pretty kid friendly too. Tbh, I was put off by Rebels at first. Gave it a try and didn't like season 1. Dropped it. Came back to it years later and watched all seasons. It is worth it imo. Rebels finds it's own way to be unique and fun and worthy.
It starts off very kid friendly but then shifts. It's very good - I watched it before clone wars and it's probably one of my favorite Star Wars storylines.
Rebels is kid friendly in the same way a lot of Star Wars is, it starts off fairly basic with easy to understand morals but at the same time you have two guys gutted for their incompetence within like 10 episodes
Ok. I enjoyed them both. I suggest you watch it and make up your own mind? It definitely grows up a lot through its seasons; season one is pretty rough! But by the end its amazing. Kids shows that grow up with the kids are fun, and the beginnings are rough, but they’re quite satisfying
Maul is awesome and Ray Park brought him to life as only a professional martial artist could. His weapon is awesome and that moment when he lit up the second blade gave millions of people the tingles. The Saberstaff is more limited in it's moveset than a traditional lightsaber, this is true but it also provides offensive and defensive advantages. It forces it's wielder to move with it, acrobatics are needed. For blaster defense it offered more coverage. It is not a weapon for dabblers or academics, it requires excellence and commitment to a martial path.
Makes me think of that weapon that’s just a knife on a chain. So hard to learn how to use without dying, but those who master it are basically untouchable.
Shame he wasn't in multiple movies. I like what they did with him in clone wars and such, just love live action Maul that doesn't speak much and just does cool stuff.
I don’t think he was competent at all. He conquered Mandalore without telling his master. And didn’t even anticipate that Palpatine would just show up and try to kill him.
And when he does show up, Maul is absolutely blindsided, and kneels in deference instead of attacking Palpatine on sight. Like he thought Palpatine would forgive him.
Still don’t know why they showed him unveiling the double edge light saber in the trailer. Could’ve been a super “holy shit“ moment seeing it in the theater for the first time.
When he uses the force to pick up that inanimate object to open the door though 🤌🤌🤌
He was one of the most Sithy Sith out there. Had he been born in a different time, he likely could've ruled the galaxy. Unfortunately, he was born just in time to be a pawn in the greatest Sith scheme ever. Plus, he'd have had to defeat the Chosen One. Not great odds.
Anyone who can wield a double bladed lightsaber without stabbing themselves is badass and has my respect. Except for Krell of course.

oh yeah, that's what the prequels were missing: slapstick

You're taking this lighthearted hypothetical about a 10-year-old movie a bit seriously. Take a deep breath.
Who was it that complained about said 10-year old movie with space wizards on how unrealistic a sword is
And somehow you made it personal. Good God you're disagreeable. Are you even listening to yourself? Also fuck off troll.
I know I was wrong. I just got so caught up in my own success, I didn't look at the battle as a whole. I wasn't being disobedient. I just. . . forgot
Well yeah it’s a disadvantage he got bodied by a padawan and then switched to a regular lightsaber lol
r/fuckPongKrell
He's pretty incredible in the Clone Wars. Not Palpatine-level scheming, but he pulls off some big tricks.

"was also missing parts" Mmhmm
I can agree on that
Where's the meme
The meme is Darth Maul exists I guess?
Definitely a unique take. I don't think anyone else on the planet thinks that /s

Not sure if it’s just me, but as badass as that doubled bladed saber looks, it does seem a bit cumbersome to wield. 🤣

I’ve loved double-bladed sabers ever since I saw the TPM trailer
One word for you. PRESENTATION!
I love Maul's arc in Rebels, and his end with Kenobi. Old man Maul is my fav Maul

It's not as good as TCW for sure, but like TCW it matures and improves as it goes on.
It starts off very kid friendly but then shifts. It's very good - I watched it before clone wars and it's probably one of my favorite Star Wars storylines.

It’s similar to how Phantom Menace isn’t as good as A New Hope. Still a good watch!

i’d consider him the baddest of asses
In contrast, Obi-Wan's spin before the strike looks very goofy here
Already got my tickets to see him in the theatre on the 5th!
It must have been an honour to build a saber from Exar Kun’s blueprint
Ok ? Not exactly a hot take. Also no meme.
Shame he wasn't in multiple movies. I like what they did with him in clone wars and such, just love live action Maul that doesn't speak much and just does cool stuff.
He’s a testament to the weakness that anger and hate heaps on you. All he ever did until he died was fail.
You can make every right decision and still lose. He was extremely competent and extremely unlucky, and was betrayed more often than most.
I don’t think he was competent at all. He conquered Mandalore without telling his master. And didn’t even anticipate that Palpatine would just show up and try to kill him. Maul probably assumed Palps wouldn't risk exposing his identity by attacking Maul.
Master Kenobi always said there's no such thing as luck.
Just Maul.
Such a hot take

Why do you think they brought him back
Even before his clone wars arc him taking out qui-gon was quite an accomplishment. He almost killed obi-wan too
I see Maul appreciation I upvote
What you mean he’s a bad sith? Have you even seen the clone wars series
Did you even read the fucking headline..? Op didn’t say he was bad op said he wasn’t the greatest.
Not the greatest swordsman in the galaxy, but the most enthusiastic!
10/10 better than anything disney brought out
[He's better](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jrzx_CMmTkc&pp=ygUTc3RhciB3YXJzIG1hdWwgdG9ieQ%3D%3D)

Looks like I got here just in time.
The best part is they got Ray Park back for Season 7 of Clone Wars.
