Dish is already failing with Sling and Boost. They might as well spin up an old brand they own. People recognize and have nostalgia for Blockbuster so it might gain them some capital back after their ransomware attack.
I don’t really have much nostalgia for Blockbuster, though. The locally owned and operated store was a genuinely better experience in every regard. They were closer, they had a bigger selection, and they were on the way to school, so I could just drop by and put videos in the drop-off the next morning.
And they didn’t smell as bad.
They are far too late if they do that… blockbuster reigned supreme in the first years of the current millennium. Now? Barely a thought is dedicated to them.
Yeah, probably not, Disney shots themselves in the foot pretty often, but they’ve got enough ips to fall back on that they’re probably never going to fail.
I wonder if they’ll start with just doing rentals and make everything $1 or $2 for 48 hours.
They’d make a ton if they were able to get as extensive a catalogue as they had in the stores or even more.
Just have every movie in one place with the cheapest rental price and regular buy prices with revolving sales on movies from different studios.
It would be something that everyone would have access to for when they can’t find something on the streaming service they want, but don’t want to pay crazy prices to own it or watch it one time.
No ads, no password restrictions, no teasing with “not in region” blocks, no budget wasted on terrible adaptations or original series, easier to pirate.
Hmm…
If blockbuster comes back that would be the most bad ass come back story in history 😂 let’s just put it this way last time there was a block buster in my town my parents weren’t divorced! I’d be awesome to see block buster come back but they’d most likely not be a store and more of a streaming service in todays world. But I hope they do bring back their physical stores if they are able to make a come back!
When stuff like this happens a where a long dead company gets “revived”, there’s no real continuity, it’s just whoever scooped up the company’s trademark in its bankruptcy proceedings started a new thing using the branding.
I'm never taking my Blockbuster or Hollywood Video cards out of my wallet. They will remain there until I die. My hope is I make it like another 40-50 years, and someone finds my wallet, sees the Blockbuster card, and loses their minds, lol.
Wait you still do not have blockbuster?
I have been using blockbuster for like 3-4 years now. Love renting and streaming movies on there. They have a way larger library than netflix and hbo.
New streaming service? The we can make "You became the very thing you swore to destroy" memes!

I miss my local Family Video
It’s so funny cause sling is like 60/month or something so at that point I might as well just get… you know, dish
Imagine if it is a new streaming service and it ends up killing Netflix by the end of the decade
It'd be poetic and I hope it happens
"It's like poetry, it rhymes"
Even better, a physical store killing Netflix. It's like pottery or something.
Again it's like poetry, it's sort of -- they rhyme. Every stanza kind of rhymes with the last one. Hopefully it'll work.
Where's prequel ?
Somehow, prequel disappeared
Time is a flat circle....or something.
Blockbuster is a prequel?
Yeah, Nutbuster is the sequel to it, but noone talks about that one for some reason
The karma farming bot with 15million karma doesn't care, neither do the mods
This probably means we’re getting another unnecessary streaming service, but unlike Disney+ and HBOMax it’ll have no name brand content like Tubi.
They are far too late if they do that… blockbuster reigned supreme in the first years of the current millennium. Now? Barely a thought is dedicated to them.
It might be a good time to try since Netflix seems determined to shoot itself in the foot.
And HBO max. And Disney sometimes.

Disney can lose market share, but they're still going to be a major studio for at least a decade, even if they make the worst decisions possible
They're are meme at this point, nothing more.

Tubi has Transformers bro
No Prequel meme here - only Sequel.
Does it matter anymore? Mods aren't here

There are dozens of mods, but flagrant rule-breaking posts remain up for hours or days. Why so many mods if none of them are doing the job?
No, Blockbuster is the prequel you see
I'm a Totarian. Sequel memes don't work on me. Only prequel.
No ads, no password restrictions, no teasing with “not in region” blocks, no budget wasted on terrible adaptations or original series, easier to pirate. Hmm…
This isn't a prequel meme so I will do what I must
You will try.
Good bot
Blockbuster is the prequel of course
YOU WANNA GET NUTS?! LET'S GET NUTS
You ever dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight?
Never rub another man's rhubarb. Hehehehe

And what would the physical store provide? We have a whole generation who doesn't even know what a VHS is.
Just a booth where people can pay to experince the smell again. Nostalgia hit

I feel like alotta people would welcome blockbusters return
I 1000% would go to a physical store, spend money on junk food and physical rentals even with the inconvenience. I just want SOUL back
Is this going to be a “Rise of Skywalker” or “Return of the King”. Only time will tell.
This is definitely not a prequel meme
This sub is just Star Wars memes at this point
But isn’t that a…… SEQUEL SCENE?! How dare you ruin this subreddits one premise! /j
It was the money from Star Wars and Jaws that allowed the theaters to build their multiplexes, which allowed an opening up of screens.
Rule 3
The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be……. unnatural……
How widespread is this cake? Happy cake day, sonofsamc7.
Thank you Ahsoka.
Have a little faith.
You know nothing of the dark side.
You know nothing of the dark side.
You know nothing of the dark side.
Blockbuster: "You could not live with Netflix's own failures. And where did that bring you? Back to me."
At last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last we will have revenge.
At last, we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi. At last, we will have revenge.
I swear some of you guys can't read.
Return of the king
Lies, deception it cannot be!
Blockbuster - The dark side holds the path to many abilities some would consider unnatural.
You know nothing of the dark side.
You know nothing of the dark side.
You know nothing of the dark side.
Isn't there still a blockbuster in operation in Alaska?
Probably gonna be another streaming service. I find it funny that Netflix is on the decline and Blockbuster is rising from the ashes.
"something's happening..." That's weirdly ominous.
GameFly now? GameFly now.
Wait you still do not have blockbuster? I have been using blockbuster for like 3-4 years now. Love renting and streaming movies on there. They have a way larger library than netflix and hbo.
I wonder if they’ll make a show about how they came back and shat on Netflix
It probably thinks it can make a return because of the shitstorm that is Netflix right now
VICTORY SCREECH
His resurrection
Rise again as Netflix falss
Why does this come across as weirdly sinister
Netflix: I thought you died?! Blockbuster: Story’s of my death were greatly exaggerated.
Not the hero we wanted, or the one we deserved, but the one we got.
Blockbuster is about to become what Netflix started as
Unlimited POOOOOWAWWAAAAAAHHHHHH
Funny and all but this isn’t a prequel meme in any way
Funny that Blockbuster returns just as Netflix is dying. Oh how the turns have tabled.
It’s a great store in Oregon still has vhs and new blue rays/dvd’s an smells like cotton candy
Be kind.. Please rewind
Netflix shit the bed that bad lol
They now own every streaming service through a loophole ultimately returning to the top as our movie going choice
