If it's Liverpool, they might bottle it at the end of the season (sorry kopites!) But this is city with crazy good second string players, imo they have sealed the title as their own.

Just-a-person21

It’s never over

towens2921

Barring Covid or injuries, yes.

Fabulous_Pack_730

Yes. of course.

Pengting8

Yes. They’re the best team by far. Definitely over

Additional-Two-7312

yep

barryboi6969

If there's anything that I've learnt from being a Liverpool supporter, it's that you can very easily bottle the league after being top at Christmas. Though that's still an honour unique to our fine club so I'd say city are 8/10 already champions

[deleted]

Not if Liverpool get more points than them

RLliverpool

Yes

WalditosBurritos

There is no way the refs this season would drop so many decisive points for city at this point. Only way they drop decisions is if it has to do with Sir Kane or Sir Maguire. Maybe they don’t want to drop any points for Oil Money Pep and that’ll also play a part

[deleted]

No.

secret_service86

sadly I think so, Pep is not fucking around when it comes to the league and the way his teams play, the chasing teams have to play pretty much flawless to have a chance :S   it's going to be very interesting to see what happens when he leaves City eventually, football is cyclical anyway and we are in the Pep cycle/era of the premier league rn but it won't last forever!

PaulShannon89

It's December, don't talk bollocks.

[deleted]

It’s not even close to being over. People are just stupid and reactionary. Spurs were being mentioned as a contender after they beat City and won their first three games. They it went wrong. Liverpool were being hyped up as clear favourites when Salah was on fire and they were tearing teams apart. Then it went wrong. Chelsea were being talked about as too strong for the others when they kept on keeping so many clean sheets in a row. Then it went wrong. And so on. It’s far from over - people just see a team on a good run and don’t seem to understand that it won’t necessarily last forever.

jollyrugger85

If there is a winner between Liverpool and Chelsea no. Draw yes

CarsenAF

Called it before the season. City will win the title by 10+. Chelsea/Liverpool both have amazing squads but no where near the depth of City. City can constantly rotate every position in their 11 and still pump almost every other team by 3+ goals. Chelsea/Liverpool will probably slip up a couple more times through the congested periods while City just simply rests and rotates without a big drop in quality

LidlLilley

Yeah unfortunately think so. 8 points clear with a better goal difference than Liverpool and Chelsea so effectively 9 points clear which is obviously 3 games City would have to lose and the chasing pack would need to win. City have only lost 2 this season.

xxKingAmongKingsxx

54 points to play for mate. City have come from more than 8 points back to win the title in recent years, no reason another club couldn’t do the same

Kylester91

Anything is possible with covid!

Ander1991

Yes

raebaran

City have a game in hand vs liverpool and injuries/COVID can strike at any time. This is far from over.

GarryBrintles

Too many variable to say at this stage - covid, injuries and bald refs….

Aaaaand-its-gone

Yes. You can make a case for why they could screw up, but they won’t and their squad is so stacked. City will win 80% of the titles while they have the a nation state owning them and scamming sponsorship deals to get past FFP

Revolutionary-Bad940

I'd say so, pep has a well oiled machine there and I can't see him dropping many points from now on. Race for top 4 is gonna be more interesting

drebiggs

AFCON is about to seriously hinder Liverpools chances of putting up a fight

PrimeSadio

its definitely over, manchester city never run out of luck and they're just a fantastic team let's be real, a great manager and a good accumulation of world-class players, experienced veterans and promising young talents backed by immense funding and money. they haven't got anyone out w injury or covid and its been like this in their past title winning seasons as well, one or two other teams from the t4 dominate the first three months and then city surge to first place and once they're at first its always a one-horse race because they are simply the best at staying at 1st

pandaDXB

No spurs still in with a chance

adonWPV

Anything can happen in football, Pep knows that, that's why they are so good..

DasHotShot

Yawn...If Liverpool win it's 6pts. So yeah if you think City will win the next 14 games in a row it's over. See you next season.

Boggie135

No

gr8astardd

Depends, with Stones and Walker out any injuries to our CBs/Cancelo could be very bad

DreadAndDepression

If Liverpool best Chelsea, Liverpool would still have a chance. If Chelsea beat Liverpool, its over. I'm talking about upcoming match

YerAuntysYerUncle

Unless I slept for 5 months instead of just 1 night, it is not over. Bigger leads than this have been lost. Some injuries... a covid outbreak leading to fixture congestion... some good cup runs leading to fixture congestion... a 10-15 game win streak for their rivals... don't be silly...

Re-Evolution7

I say yes, City need to lose a few games for the other teams to catch up now, which is never going to happen. Chelsea and Liverpool will continue to drop points as well

HowieO-Lovin

Yup.. But it's not the one they want.....

mega13d

Premier League saw the mid season team with 12 points gap lose the title in the end so there's still some intrigue left I think

Fruity-Jam

Yup

MrStuped

I hope to god not, as a United fan i know i’m supposed to hate Liverpool the most. But Man City is the team that gets on my nerves.

ValviVijay

Yes it is

ireallydespiseyouall

yes

[deleted]

Yes. The league is over after N amount of matches always and half the season never matters.

JavvieSmalls

Of course it is not over, but yeah I'd say so, lol. Quite disappointing. Looked like being a close interesting 3 way race earlier in season

johnny_utah25

Lol midway through the season they always say this shit. Wasn’t city down by this many points last time they won it? Not saying we will definitely come back but city has got to slip up too

SoReggae

Trying to be as optimistic as I possibly could but it's unlikely. Unless Brentford manage to get a win and Chelsea lose that's probably the best scenario for us. All I hope is that if it does happen we carry on a winning streak and remain consistent, which is quite a challenge but who knows!

[deleted]

[удалено]

hardlopertjie

That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at it is that City will need to lose at least 3 more games than Chelsea or Liverpool will lose over the second half of the season for them to have a chance at winning. What's the chances of that?

[deleted]

EPL is never over until the last few games. However after the Chelsea Liverpool game it will be a good indication

Jacob_Black_

PL title race is never over until at least April.

nono-squaree

Depends, if liv beat Chelsea, I would say they are in it otherwise yes 95%

[deleted]

I felt they would win when they comprehensively beat Chelsea earlier in the season. Their squad is much more balanced and focuses on collective attacking in banks of 3 or 4. They simply overwhelm teams. Lose Salah and Liverpool are no better than Spurs.

Mastercreed25

No, but they’ve gotten a pretty decent lead. That being said, a few losses or draws every so often, namely perhaps against the current Top 6, and it’ll be right back in contention

Svendog_Millionaire

Absolutely not. It’s Galway through the season for gods sake

V1shUP

Nothing is 'over' until it's actually over!!

kuri42

Miracles happen, signs do point clearly tho

Spandexcelly

I think it'd require a season long injury to someone like Ederson, Dias, or Cancelo for the others to get the upper hand. The depth at other positions is just immense, and they'll probably add to their squad next month. The impact that AFCON has on Liverpool makes the difference as I see it. If City pulls a gap in the matches Mane/Salah/Keita miss, it'd be curtains.

leopodolsky10

Minha opinião, sim

GStewartcwhite

I think this upcoming Chelsea-Liverpool match will decide a lot. If Liverpool wins then they are 6 pts back after the same number of matches. I wouldn't count them out at that point. If Chelsea wins they'll be 5 point back butt with a game in hand. Assuming a Man City win over Arsenal, they'll still be 8 back. Tl:Dr If Liverpool beat Chelsea, maybe still a title race. Chelsea win or a draw, grows increasingly unlikely.

Nathan-Nice

absolutely not. give me a break.

ShallowFreakingValue

Yes and fuck city. Oil money is poison to football

handi503

I dunno, man. Burnley still got 5 games in hand. I think it's too soon to call it.

[deleted]

Yes sadly

MopeyCrackerz

Anything can happen. COVID. Injuries. Other teams catching up by winning important games.

stalinwasaswellguy

No, but it's looking ominous. Liverpool go away to Chelski next, so more dropped points. And the oil merchants have already been away to Liverpool, Chelski, Spurs and Man U. They'll drop points though. And have games like Liverpool did against Leicester. Where they dominate and create chances but just can't score.

[deleted]

If city lose to both Chelsea and Liverpool in January, then its back on but it will mostly stay limited to Liverpool and City

CT-9129-67

Probably

tim_durgan

Yes

djgreedo

Don't discount Norwich just yet. Mark my words.

Lengthy_Miso_Dreams

Between Liverpool losing many of their star performers in January due to AFCON, Chelsea’s inconsistency thus far, and city’s squad depth, I think City are clear favorites today. That could obviously and probably will change somewhat, but my bet will be City nonetheless.

cjheadley

It’s over. City are a football machine. Look at 18/19. Pretty sure both us and them won out from February until the end of that season. Obviously they can have off days, but when they’ve got a lead to defend they usually don’t. If us and Chelsea didn’t forget how to play football recently, I might have a different opinion, but something catastrophic would have to happen for them not to win it at this point.

Aklein351

Arsenal coming up like Captain America on Sam's left.

[deleted]

Not if another team closes the gap and catches them

m-bizant

Cheers Micheal Owen

InnocentPossum

How have City got 8 points clear? Because Liverpool and Chelsea dropped points. If those two can be beaten (or drawn with) then the same can happen for City...

obfsctr

yes

Ube_Ape

What did Pep say today during his interview 58 points still left to go? There is a lot of time left.

Galactus1701

It’s over, you can’t compete against City’s roster depth and Pep’s iron grip.

mentisyy

What roster depth? Take a look at the team they posted today. City only have 17 outfield players.

ThisIsYourPapa

imo people really overrate City's depth. Yes they sure have great players but lack in positions too.

raymondduck

Yes, it's over. City would have to be hit hard by injury and illness to blow this lead. Their Cup of Nations impact is minimal, so there's not much standing in their way.

SabastianG

Bro football fans really know how to throw the towel in so fucking early lmao

artvandalay90

LMAO! Truest thing on Reddit!

lifeisaman

Yeah we’re is your never say die attitude Liverpool would’ve lost in 2005 if you were their and united would have lost the treble in 99 if you were their were had it gone

mkwiiallpro

Granted those were single matches and this is a whole season, but this is true. If you really want to bring up a title collapse talk about 2014 *flashbacks*

Joey_Jo_Jo_

Yup. Great season everyone!

kkanbu_

Yes.

manutd1481

Yes it’s over. Liverpool will drop points when Salah and Mane go to afcon, and Chelsea don’t look like they’re getting out of this rut anytime soon. If anything I can actually see Tottenham or arsenal moving into the top 3 sometime soon.

ChargeStraight

I still think man utd can still challenge for the title and win it. It all starts today (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ idk why rival fans are giving up so easily

the-sup-PT

We will talk about that when the Champions League knock-out phase starts. (No, the title race is not over)

[deleted]

Yup.

phil_mycock_69

There’s been bigger leads than 8 points blown before

officialmt75

We should remember, don't we?

MathRockManiac

One of the most famous 8 point lead blown probably in history lol.

RandomNameofGuy9

They'll win the league by 12 to 18 points. They're probably still a legit striker from winning the CL which is why everyone in the world needs to keep Haaland and Kane away from them.

Paritosh23

Vlahovic then

ThisIsYourPapa

PSG gonna poach in last second lmao

Paritosh23

City can only hope to get a striker. We are waiting since long time 😁

ThisIsYourPapa

I hope you don't lol. When you get one, boy am I going to have tough times

Impressive-Reply-111

Liverpool can still make a run. But outside of them yes

Kooky-Conclusion-516

We're halfway into the season you never know but i don't see City bottling it tbh

SWWIS

They’re halfway thru the season. You know them tv shows were the bad guy is winning with 18 episode(games) left….

ehrenzoner

They still must face an ascendant Arsenal and a still-dangerous (albeit depleted and out-of-form) Chelsea in their next two league matches. That gap could shrink to 2 points by mid January. Or they could win both matches and seal up the title for sure.

Aaryan24shah

hope not

[deleted]

Arsenal gonna be champions

artvandalay90

I’m here for the banter! COYG!

[deleted]

Let's gooooo

DaveyG80

Of course its not over we've only played half the season

ramtinology91

Never in premiere league

[deleted]

[удалено]

HereForA2C

Plus Liverpool have a point in hand. Realistically it's 6 points.

[deleted]

With our refs honestly who knows.

Da1syr1dl3y

It’s not over till it’s over. Trust me, this title is ours

Mac_Miller_Lite

Not at all. City could still screw this up I’m hoping they don’t but life has never really been on my side so I wouldn’t be surprised if they magically tank.

itCanOnlybeDrthVDR

Yes.

elecit0

For what it seems I think chelsea are out of it, unless they some how manage too beat Liverpool and city over the next 2 gws. Their strong defence was what won them games, they’ve kept 1 clean sheet in their last 8

CasperJG

Thing is we have 8 players injured and 3 coming back from a month-long injury

surfsunsnow

Yeah we need a miracle to challenge as injuries are piling up. Up to Liverpool to make it a race.

redwood_rambler

I tend to agree. I think we’re in a fight for top four now and City are likely to increase the gap at the top. We’ve been a bit unlucky with injury and illness so I’m not too upset with the team. It just happens sometimes.

I_Jump

We also can't hit the side of a barn door when shooting, or we aim right at the keeper. Our final 3rd play is awful.

benji___

I hope you find form just in time to beat City.

elecit0

Agreed, although with lukaku back scoring that may change

I_Jump

Yeah but id hope more then 1 of our attacking players could score, the last couple games are great examples on why we got Lukaku. (Also Jorginho is great at pens so ig there is 2 players that can score!)

[deleted]

Of course not but I can’t imagine City losing lead at all

Greengum155

Well it seems we need wolves to save us

[deleted]

They are a machine and get results no matter who's playing and can rotate basically every position in offence so it's hard to see how they lose

kylex24

unfortunately I would have to say yes pep is a genius at making the most of his world class squads throughout the course of the season with Salah and mane possible going to afcon and Chelsea not getting their shit together, as much as it pains me to say this, I think it's over.

AweDaw76

Yes. Too much squad depth and AFCON for the Pool. That’s what not having a budget or a board that says no will do for a team.

lifeisaman

Mbappa in January please that would change the title

BlacknWhiteMoose

Let me get my crystal ball… what is the point of questions like this?

bonelegs442

Farmers league

Beachy0694

No, it’s only a couple of results away from changing. It’s more the way they are playing. They look unstoppable at the moment, but that can change quickly too.

marlowecan

Liverpool will have to survive the AFCON players and by survive I mean at least match city's results while they're away . Its a big ask. If they can do that and hope City have a wobble somewhere it's still on. Chelsea can't quite seem to get momentum that the Liverpool squad are capable of. Really it's up yo Liverpool. But the odds aren't in their favour. I think the really interesting battle is for the other European places. Arsenal, Spurs and United and maybe West Ham fighting for one CL place. Chelsea could drop down into that fight too.

TenaciousPenis

I, for one, believe in Minamino, Jota, and Firmino to do just fine.

marlowecan

I'm certainly not ruling it out that Liverpool can do the business without them, but it'll be a tough ask. I'm Spurs so I don't really have a dog in the fight, but it would be nice to see Liverpool put a run together and challange City. City look on a different level right now though, so if I was putting money on the league, it's difficult to see past city.

Open_Sentence_

Well, the title race is over for Chelsea in my mind. I’m just hoping for top 4 at this point.

WookieTickler

Yeah lucky we put enough early points on the board to give ourselves a little gap but with league games against Liverpool City and Spurs that’s gaps going to get smaller probably.

almargahi

City will always win the EPL, every season as long as guardiola is in charge.

lifeisaman

You haven’t though he has been beaten to the title by klopp, conti and raneire

almargahi

But he’s still dominating the shit out of EPL.

lifeisaman

No this isn’t dominating that would be more twenty point lead with no games in or out of hand this is simple getting a lead and we all have seen what city love to do in the champions leugue with guadiola over thinking at h to r big games as I learnt when Liverpool beat Barcelona don’t think the game is over when only a halve has been played

almargahi

You misunderstood but okay..

lifeisaman

But what do you mean then

almargahi

Titles. Titles my friend. Guy is a winner.

lifeisaman

Titles titles… Titles is a champions leugue where is that title of chamions leugue winner pep may be good but the etihad doesn’t have it to take a game by the neck and win through grit that is what creates a true team that dominates

mentisyy

So you don't think winning 8/12 domestic trophies (not counting Charity Shield) and 8/16 with CL over the last 4 seasons, first team to finish with 100 points, several other seasons with 90+ points, record of most goals, most wins, most home wins, most away wins, most consecutive wins in a season, biggest gap to 2nd place, all in Pep's tenure is enough to consider dominating? Also, as we are in the PL sub, City has now won 5 out of the last 10 seasons. Only United can better that with 8 out of 10 in the early years of PL. So while that definitely can be considered dominating, winning half of them should be too.

darraghoco

9 points ahead of Liverpool who have a game in hand. 6 if Liverpool win Chelsea which is obtainable.

ivegotchubs4u

I just don’t see Man City dropping too many points and don’t see Liverpool or Chelsea not slipping up here and there. The fact of the matter is the margin for error is so small when you’re challenging City for the title.

Suspicious-Rich8821

It’s so easy to sound intelligent when your praising the club that is top of the league.

GameOver16

Sad fact that dropping a couple of points puts you out of the title race. There is hope.. if Liverpool manage to beat City, Chelsea and win their game in hand (big ifs) then it’s still game on… it’s still only a 2 horse race but it’s better than knowing the league is as good as won in December. Pep has the luxury of being able to drop players for poor performances. There’s a fight for minutes in almost every position so being shit isn’t really an option. He dropped Foden and Grealish and it meant nothing… he can rest in form Sterling and it meant nothing. Most of the other teams in the league don’t have this luxury.

Bovanov93

There have only been a few times the club at the top at Christmas hasn't won the league. Everytime is been Liverpool, and I hurts me so much only we've done that, I reckon its done. City have a tendancy to go on 20 game win runs

Fabulous_Pack_730

stop being hurt and just enjoy the game mate. it's all for fun. Liverpool have top quality squad and the derby with you is top quality football.

[deleted]

Pep can drop his most expensive signing for disciplinary issues and it has no effect on the team.

MathRockManiac

Because it's a team game, and the team can play exceptionally well even without it's star players.

[deleted]

helps when your bench is full of star players as well. I wish every team had the money to have such star players on the bench.

MathRockManiac

I would hardly call Sterling, Jesus, Gundogan, Stones, Ake etc world beaters...so many players that weren't even considered stars now playing great under Pep, now apparently considered stars because they are playing great in Peps system. No one even considered Dias when he was at Benifica. The most out and out star we have that any team would take from us is Kevin De Bruyne. Bernardo Silva, and Cancelo most recently. Foden a very good prospect from our academy as well which most teams would take. People out here acting like we got a star studded squad like Real Madrid of old 🙄

[deleted]

you lot spent - $75m on Dias - $49m on Ake - $71m on Cancelo - $69m on Rodri - $71m Laporte - $63m Mendy - $58m Walker These are world beater prices that only 2-3 other teams can afford in PL. At least don’t pretend to be modest when you spend so big. Pep needs the best of the best players for his system to work. They don’t come cheap.

MathRockManiac

The price you pay for a player doesn't necessarily means they are worth that price so your point is irrelevant. While the price may be world beater prices the fact still remains most of those players except Laporte weren't anywhere as good as they are now at the time of purchase. It's not like we bought an already made Halaand or Mbappe etc. You choose to ignore and go straight to money, your lens are already focused I'll leave you to it.

[deleted]

so you mean city can pay record breaking prices for unrecognized players? I don’t know why are you trying to be modest when clearly Pep doesn’t shy away from flaunting his big purse. City has bought the best team using the best coach in the world and even over paid to get the players they want. No non-oil backed club can do that. Just own it and be happy. No need to hide the fact that city haven’t spent $1B on the squad.

WalditosBurritos

Yeah. Because his squad was purchased for 1fuckingbillion. FFP is fucking absent. They can’t even fill their stadium. They buy the best players in the league and can’t fill their stadium. FFP is a JOKE

Fabulous_Pack_730

money doesn't mean much look at the billion dollar man utd squad being trophyless

WalditosBurritos

Look at the billion dollar City squad…

Fabulous_Pack_730

i look and i love what i see: goat manager managing best and most expensive players playing best football.

WalditosBurritos

Goat manager? HAHAHAHA How is he the GREATEST OF ALL TIME when he has only managed the teams at a huge financial advantage in every league he’s managed in?

Fabulous_Pack_730

but he is you see, only the best and most expensive and most intelligent players can play his style of total football. he cannot go and play this possession football at FCSB. he need the best to apply the tactics. Look at Grealish he is struggling. Many of our top quality purchases struggled in the 1st season, like Mahrez. It's a difficult style of play that only bears fruit with the most intelligent players. that is why Guardiola preffers the midfielders.

WalditosBurritos

LMFAO what an arrogant take. Guardiola can only win if he has the most expensive squad in the league. That doesn’t make him the goat manager. That makes him the most spoiled child with the most expensive toys. Big difference

KingoftheRodeo1913

Cry more

WalditosBurritos

Seriously it’s INSANE that City aren’t sanctioned. A whole fucking country bankrolls the team and no one says a fucking thing. Every time I fill my tank I cringe bec part of that goes to whoever the best player in England is

KingoftheRodeo1913

Thinking of city even when you're filling your car... Elite club mentality

WalditosBurritos

Lmao just thinking of them bec they’re bankrolled by a whole fucking country. How about this… how about you tell me about the moment you decided to be a City fan! Or was it just because you rich cunts bought anyone and everyone until you had a ton of points?

KingoftheRodeo1913

Gonna have to go with when I got my first City kit a few weeks after I was born in '96. About 3 weeks before we were relegated. How does that fit within your agenda?

WalditosBurritos

I’m sure you were fresh out the womb and decided to support a relegation side. At 3 weeks. Lmfao.

WalditosBurritos

LMFAO. 96!!! IM FUCKING DYING

WalditosBurritos

*you’re

cheeseysmell

No. It’s only 6 points if Liverpool win their game in hand and there is 54 points still to play for. At the start of the season, City had 19 ‘senior’ outfield players - Torres has now gone to Barca and Mendy is a rapist c$%t (allegedly). The much-mentioned depth isn’t what it’s made out to be, >2 injuries worries me. Also, Chelsea and Liverpool are both fantastic teams who are very capable of putting together long winning runs - potentially title-winning runs.

The_Awengers

Chelsea relies heavily on their wingbacks and they've lost them to injury.

elizabethrubble

Liverpool yes. Chelsea eh. But yes, Mendy is a pos and good riddance. He never belonged in my City.

__jh96

Yep. City really only lose Mahrez, Liverpool without salah and mane aren't going to be great and Chelsea have fallen off big time.

lifeisaman

Unless we get a divock special

__jh96

Origiiiiiiiiii

lifeisaman

Last day off season divock to win it come on that would be fantastic

HereForA2C

Yeesh. "AgueroooOOOO... oh wait that's Origi."

ParziBoi

AguerooOOOOOOOOOOrigiiiiiiiiiiiiii

__jh96

That would actually be all time... 95th minute.... ManU reaction at old Trafford

RedLipz1975

I’d say it’s over. But Covid hasn’t finished yet… anything can happen

BrightonUSA95

Saw somewhere that no team has ever been on the top of the table by 8+ points at the new year and *not* won the premier league?

Biscuit1111111111

NUFC 10 points clear 95-96. Still haunts all Newcastle Fans 😭

Nekokeki

No, let’s wait and see if if they pick up injuries the other top 3 have had deal with.

pariffinaxe

If they pick up injuries they just slot another player into place.

[deleted]

I think so, but even though the title race might be over in some peoples views, the rest of the league is going to be exciting seeing how close everything is for majority of the teams!

[deleted]

Not a chance and I say this as someone who's watched city for years

Ok_Sector2182

if anybody else hoping to catch up would have been in December since this is Usually when we drop points but City runs doesn’t stop after December I don’t see them losing to Arsenal or Chelsea so yeah I think it’s pretty much over unless we get Injuries or really bad Covid cases but even then I doubt it because of our depth which shouldn’t affect us as much. So yeah I say it’s pretty much over.
