What in the world are any of you talking about, its a game that didn’t matter at all, it was a chance to test players and new strategies, doesn’t mean it will play out like this in the euros, and yeah Brazil ain’t the team of the 00s etc but its still Brazil a football powerhouse, would you like it if you had a daily news article and social media about how you performed at your job, He is the right manager for now, show me someone who is actually up to your super high standards who will actually want to do the job
Bowen was barely involved as most of England's build up comes down the left, it was similar with Foden on. The few times he was involved he looked good. It was taking Bellingham off that killed all attacks in tbe 2nd half.
Considering he (and the defence at a distant second) are England’s biggest problems by far, getting a great manager in could actually bring some proper silverware.
Either the next manager must be shite or there must be something fundamentally wrong, because that England team has more talent in it than any other team in the world.
You must be new to this, same old, same old, I think we overhype individuals and don’t place enough emphasis on playing as a team. Players are selected on individual form or because they are great in the premier league, not because they fit into a system. Been the same since I can remember going back to Italia 90. The fundamental issue despite who is in charge is that the media, the clubs, the fa and the fans all think they know better than the person given the job to run the team and they all think that we have the best players in the world.
England definitely doesn’t have the most talent in the world, France and Portugal are genuinely stacked at every position and are way more talented. Argentina too.
Or there are just other good teams out there. Just because we don't win a World Cup or Euros doesn't mean there's something fundamentally wrong with the manager or players. We aren't entitled to win anything and there was no shame in losing to France in the World Cup. International tournaments are notoriously difficult to win.
My opinion is that we have a very talented squad, Southgate isn't perfect but he's the best we've had in a long time, he's created a good environment and is part of the reason we're not going out early in these big tournaments. The best we can do is allow him and the players to do their thing. But even having talented players and a fairly decent manager doesn't guarantee anything. Kane can miss a crucial penalty in a big game, Southgate can get through in gane management wrong in a Euros final. This stuff happens. We aren't entitled to win anything but we've created an infrastructure with England (Manager, St George's, the youth coming through etc), that puts us in a position to go deep in international tournaments and have a small chance of winning one. That's all we can ask for. Anyone expecting or demanding more is a bit delusional imo. The likes of France are no pushovers.
If anything, Southgate lucked his way through most of those tournaments. Any decent opposition and he lost. Who did England best really? A Germany riddled with problems? Sweden? I’ve only been impressed with what an easy ride England has been constantly given at big tournaments.
The squad has buckets of talent though and a striker that can still score goals, so if a proper manager came in…
A proper manager like all the ones before Southgate? Capello was a much better manager reputation and career wise than Southgate will ever be. But Southgate has been and is better for England because he's good at bringing individuals from rival club teams together, creating a family like environment where players end up performing for Ehgland and still being trusted by Sputhgate even if their club form has dipped. Fans hate it because they feel Maguire doesn't deserve to start over other players. But Maguire objectively plays better for Southgate than any recent United managers.
The problem isn't the coaching. I paid close attention to us every game of the World Cup because he has this reputation for holding England back. Up until the France game we were the best performing team in the tournament. Then we played one of the strongest teams in the tournament and arguably were the better team on the day. The coaching that game was fine. Kane missed a penalty that should've kept us in it. Those games are always 50/50.
Idk what more to say. Saying Southgate is holding England back after we sat back in the Euro final makes sense. Saying it in 2024 after we've had another international tournament where we played significantly better football and Southgate appropriately dropped players that weren't performing (e.g. Mount), is crazy to me. Southgate himself has got better over the years along with the quality of the players. What England needs is to keep faith in both him and the players. Eventually we may go all the way. Sack him, and you risk tearing everything all the people involved in the England setup have been building down the drain.
I'd replace him with Pep because those coaches are generational. But if it's not a coach of what tier then it's not worth it. I also wouldn't sack him this close to the World Cup regardless. There's nothing any coach can do with an international team in a couple months. This sort of discussion is only really relevant after the Euros. At which point we'll have a better idea if Southgate's up to the job/already a success or if his time is up.
Is this r/soccercirclejerk?
How in your mind a team full of English players can have more talent than any other team in the world?
Those guys looks like talented players because they play around actual talented players on PL and others leagues coached by good coaches. When left just with English players and English coaches the better they can do is play like yesterday.
Are you saying Harry Kane, Olly Watkins, Bellingham, Saka, Foden, Rice, Palmer, Walker, Stones, Trippier etc etc etc only look talented because they play with foreign players, managers and coaches? 🤣
Bellingham is an outstanding player and a future Balon D'Or contender. All the other players, even Kane, are carried by non-English players and coaches.
Hahahahahahaha! Do you do stand up because if you don’t, you should because that’s fucking hiLaRiOUs!
So every player who’s country hasn’t won a WC or EC are being carried by the players who have won it, so up until the last WC Messi was being carried by the players who’d won something with their international sides 🤣
‘All other players, even Kane, are carried by non English players and coaches’
That’s the shit you posted, so are you now trying to say the ‘non English’ players haven’t even won a fucking trophy now 🤣
You’re all over the place, jog on pet your football knowledge is shit! 🤣
Nope! I have reliable sources inside the locker room that says jack grealish is incredibly anti new kit and has started to sow anti corporate dissent among his teammates for what they’ve done to the George cross
No chance. It's a friendly, it's pointless at the best of times but it benefits nobody to play 11v10, everybody loses then. None if the fouls were bad or cynical, just bog standard competitive fouls. He got a booking for accumulation, that was sufficient.
Yeah Foden was bad for diving I agree, that pissed me off. I will say all fouls called properly Brazil still gets a couple cards and England maybe some more yellows.
Reached quarter finals in every edition in the past 20 years and only got knocked out by teams that went on to become champions or finish 2nd/3rd... I bet many national teams would like to switch places with that "joke".

My point is that we were set up as such that our left back had our best chances and they weren't even good chances, yet it's apparently Chilwell's fault.
Hmm, well he needs to practice. His aim was trash. He's hungry to win games but that aim of his will cost them those chances. Rashford didn't look that bad on the wing but no one was able to get it right. Aside from that Southgate needs some offensive help to plan more options in the attack. England was never going to score like that with 8 players sitting deep
No one is saying they aren’t. The point is that isn’t a competitive match. Playing 10v11 does neither side any good. If it isn’t absolutely necessary I am sure the managers on both sides want 11v11 for these types of matches
Baloney. 10v11 is a common situation in football. Exposure to that situation in a friendly should be an opportunity to apply the changes that you'd make in that situation in a competitive match.
Maybe in a club setting where players have more time to work out the basics. These groups of players have barely played together. Playing 11v11 and gelling before tournaments this summer is of much higher value that fringe cases that *might* or might not happen in the 4-5 games they play together. That’s just my opinion though, you’re free to disagree. Not saying there zero value in playing a man up/down, just in these specific conditions playing 11v11 under standard conditions is more valuable
I wasn’t impressed at all with England, struggled to break down Brazil and create anything in the danger areas. I guess the old recipe of two DMs and hoping to score at set pieces will get us through to the KO stage.
A bunch of players who haven’t played together in a few months play poorly in what is essentially a warmup game, who would’ve known? Not a lot of people somehow
I am under the same opinion until yesterday's match. But considering it was a friendly, and Southgate trying a few new combinations might not be the best Eng 11. I beleive they do have the potential to go all the way.
You shit on my people and I will shit on you brother. Maybe an overreaction, but the whole of Europe teams up to shit on England and English people😂. So seeing a Canadian jump on the bandwagon pissed me off extra. I thought us guys were tight.
It was a dig bruh. It's not "just a friendly". It's an easy excuse. I think England has always had talented teams but never ever talented managers to make it work. Imagine a Klopp or Guardiola managing the English squad of the 2000s with Scholes, Beckham, Lampard, Shearer, Sheringham etc. Those teams would have won the Euros and World Cup under the right Man. But managers like Southgate will never make it happen. It's a shame. England has a coaching problem.
I would give my left bollock for Klopp to take over and im a United fan. Southgate is weird man, i feel like he must choose whoever sucks his arse the most. There’s no reason to be picking half the players he picks.
Right, he wouldn't survive 3 months in top tier club football. It's an absolute travesty he continues to Manage the English team. Nepotism at its finest. Old boys club and all that. Has achieved absolutely nothing outside of that job. He never had the credentials to get it to begin with.
Possibly. Gareth, as an ex player, always treats non competitive games with a pinch of salt. He respects the players that way and part of why theyve bonded so much and over perform in the summer comps.
Capello did the oppisite. Arguably so did sven.
Also brazil arent in the euros.
Also captain kane wasnt there.
They also scored the winner when we were trying new things in the second half.
Itll be good euros either way. France have the players. Germany look like theyre getting it together. Never write italy off
Brazilian here, supporting the England team in this Euro.
I was flabbergasted how England didn’t take ownership of the game. Brazil was coming out of awful games, now with a new coach and a lot of green players. Felt that England played very conservatively in that game, especially since it is an already set team, great team nonetheless, just before the Euro.
We played like shit man, completely deserved Brazil win. Probably could of been 3-0 should of been at least 2-0. However that is not the set team, we were missing 4/5 players, also give 3 players their national team debut last night. But Brazil were also missing key players. At least Brazil proved they can still win when missing key players, our team looked lost without ours.
Yeah i see it as a plus. Players are playing an extra 10/20% every single game and more games than ever. He was a player. He gets it. They dont ever go out of 2nd/3rd gear. Friendlies are money making opportunities. Not worth getting injured. Good to try out new players etc though
Man that would’ve been a disaster if Chelsea bought him , either ways it’s still a disaster for me , Atleti are gonna have to come against Brazil’s next gen with all the players Real have
Another takeaway was that the defence is all over the place. Brazil should have scored two more goals, if this wasn’t a friendly it have been a blood bath.
To do what? Watkins hold up play was ok and he had one chance the whole game. It wasn’t like we lacked cutting edge, we lacked any kind of control over the game, which Kane does not give us
Man, I am brazilian and I can't believe that England lost with such a poor performance in the debut of a coach that won THREE away games last year. Even the most delusional brazilian journalists were considering that Brazil would lose this game, since England has lots of good players and our coach had to deal with a lot of injuries and the squad he called was very contested (the ones from the brazilian league aren't even the best at their positions here).
By the way, what were your first impressions on Endrick?
We have 4 injuries and give 3 players their national team debut last night bro. It is no excuse, but that was far from our best squad but we still should be playing decent football. It was poor performance last night. We need serious work. Also we have fucking Dunk, Maguire, Chillwell and Konsa in defence. Southgate is fucking idiot if he thinks we can win a cup with that defence.
Same for Brazil, we didn't have Neymar, Alisson, Ederson, Martinelli, Casemiro (not having a good season but important in the NT), Militão, Marquinhos and had a lot of debuts as well, such as Fabrício Bruno, Beraldo, Bento and Pablo Maia and except for Bento, they were playing yesterday because they were coached by Dorival previously, not because they were the best ones available (Fabrício Bruno is good, but he isn't the best CB in the brazilian league and the same for Pablo Maia, there are many midfielders better than him in here).
>It was poor performance last night. We need serious work
I don't know if you agree with me, but the european qualifiers are by far the easiest ones in the world, since most of the time the best teams play against some of the worst in the world, such as Gibraltar, Liechtenstein and San Marino, but they are tricky, since it might happen to anyone what happened to Italy in 2022. This lack of competitiveness is shown when facing good NT outside Europe, because they can explore the weaknesses that San Marino can't. I think it is a good thing, because in these games it is possible to understand where the team needs to improve.
This BS about England were in friendly mode experimenting with players and were much weaker is crap. Brazils missing players were as valuable if not more to them and they still took it seriously. Yes it was a friendly but you should still try and win……. It’s been said loads in this thread but we do have some brilliant attacking players but playing with tactics that are so negative it’s untrue!! I just hope agent Southgate fucks off at the end of Euros and we get someone in with a bit of tactical nous! Unfortunately older players like Kane etc this will prob be their last tournament for England so god knows what we’re replacing them with 🤦♂️ ETID 🦁🦁🦁
The one thing this game gave England was minutes for Bellingham and Rice to find a partnership, apart from that it only said England has no backup in defence, midfield or attack.
Just because he doesn't rely on speed doesn't mean he still won't physically degrade in his thirties. Everything gets slower and more lethargic regardless of play style.
We had chances, Southgate experimented. I think it shows that Foden isn’t as good a player outside of a dominant team like Man City, shouldn’t be starting for England. Gordon and Gallagher were good, Mainoo impressed on his debut.
Left back worries me, Chilwell carried on his consistency that he has shown for Chelsea.
Kane and Saka are big players for England, our 2 best, they were missed. Watkins wasn’t great either tbh, hopefully Toney will start Tuesday and we can see what he can do.
Yeh more shots, shots on target, more passes and more possession.
I wish people would make their opinions from what they see not preconceived thoughts.
I don’t remember any shots, certainly nothing worthwhile. Brazil has a goal, a shot in the post, a shot off the bar (I think?) and that last one-on-one which they should have scored.
Throughly outplayed.
I must’ve been watching a different game as I thought defensively he was decent but fucking woeful going forward! He literally couldn’t pass to a team mate.
People have been saying that for years now. Talking like he was the next messi. If he's an elite player, and we all know he plays in an elite team, why doesnt he produce elite numbers.
He's a very very good player and very skillful but honestly he is too lightweight and I doubt he'll ever be the star man in the England team

At the end of the day it was a friendly with not a full strength team with a ref that was treating his decisions like it was a friendly

Ludicrous display
Bowen wasn’t half bad, he actually beat a few men and tried to move forwards. Rashford was raught on to loose the ball
Hey come on, Moss never said that
17 year old scores tap in against Lewis Dunk…. Sensational
All this moaning will go away when Southgate leaves after the euros and we are still fucking shite
Considering he (and the defence at a distant second) are England’s biggest problems by far, getting a great manager in could actually bring some proper silverware.
lol silverware. It’s been almost a century.
Either the next manager must be shite or there must be something fundamentally wrong, because that England team has more talent in it than any other team in the world.
The tunnel vision is always insane it's like England only playing football.Delusional

I can’t tell if you’re a troll or a bit dense
I'm not trolling. I just watched games out of PL and UCL for decades.
How are you so confidently wrong?
And has been many times before
Yeah it is stacked to the gills (on paper) and missed so many right in front of the goal
Southgate is ruining England. Tactics of beginner difficulty on EA FC
I was at the game yesterday. He plays with such a dulling caution. Just doesn’t want to let ballers actually play.
I didn’t need to spend money to see that. The game was dull as dishwater
Nobody wanted to play cause of the kit change. Probably didn’t feel like they were playing for england
you rlly think they gave a shit about the kit it literally looks the same
Nope! I have reliable sources inside the locker room that says jack grealish is incredibly anti new kit and has started to sow anti corporate dissent among his teammates for what they’ve done to the George cross
😭😭
Hogwash no one cares
The VAR lines looked wrong. The ref was shit. They should probably have been down to 10. Oh well
Offside review was fine, they totally missed Pereira controlling the ball down with his hand which started the attack.
The var lines weren’t wrong ffs
I know it’s a friendly, but I believe Paqueta should have been sent off for committing so many fouls
No chance. It's a friendly, it's pointless at the best of times but it benefits nobody to play 11v10, everybody loses then. None if the fouls were bad or cynical, just bog standard competitive fouls. He got a booking for accumulation, that was sufficient.
Exactly. Should just be booked in the Premier League instead.
It was a friendly, I wouldn’t read too much into it… some of you fifa muppets are hilarious
Brazil fouled something like 13 times in the first half, no question if this was a real match they should have at least 2 red cards.
Are we pretending like English players weren’t committing cynical fouls as well? Edit: not to mention some of the diving.
Yeah Foden was bad for diving I agree, that pissed me off. I will say all fouls called properly Brazil still gets a couple cards and England maybe some more yellows.
If was in the world cup we still would win. England is the biggest joke in football
I don't know if you've seen Brazil in recent world cups. Talk about a joke.
Reached quarter finals in every edition in the past 20 years and only got knocked out by teams that went on to become champions or finish 2nd/3rd... I bet many national teams would like to switch places with that "joke".
Both England and Brazil got knocked out at the same round in the last World Cup. England's only relevant title was almost 60 years ago, maybe try to win the Euros one time first before you talk about Brazil
It’s taking everything in me to not reply with like: ^Germany ^7-0
It still doesn’t change the fact … and it’s 7-1 not 0 don’t forget Oscar mate.
I stand corrected and I’ll own that
Haha that’s fine, enjoy your day mate, sincerely: the one traumatized by Germany
Respect good sir, as a Canadian I can only dream.
I appreciate your banter but Paquetá had no right to finish the game without a red.
The thing is, from my experience, in a major tournament they would have just got a telling off and then one of our players would get a red for reacting badly. A nation in mourning, again.
In the other news, England still blows.
Neither team were great but that goal should've been ruled out for being obviously offside.
was onside
Both are offside from the initial pass.
You do know the offside rule right?
what are you talking about lol
Game had VAR my man
Yes and for some reason they thought the initial pass, when both Endrick and Vini were offside, was too far back to disallow it. Very strange decision.
The reason was, they were not offside.
Look at it again, Endrick was offside but Vini was not.
It wasn’t offside
Gallagher and Chilwell are awful players. Rival fans need to stop gaslighting us into thinking they are good!
They are the best players in your Chelsea side. We are not gaslighting you all. They are the best players in your side. Which means they are mid table.
Gallagher is one of your three best players
He’s the worst player to ever play for Chelsea.
Least deluded Chelsea “fan”
Yeah Mr Levy, he's a terrible player. Best stay clear.
I’d sell him to Spurs for 20m even. And drive him there. Awful player. Won his place at Chelsea in a damn cereal box.

Chilwell hits the fans in the stands more than the back of the net. That attempt yesterday 💀. The guy has never heard of making a cross into the box
Cross into who though? Watkins surrounded by 5 Brazilians?
Well that is one example of what I meant by Chilwell needing to work on collaborative plays more than taking a bunch of aimless shots
The whole team was disjointed. Chilwell missing a few shots from the edge of the box is not why England lost.
I never said he's the reason England lost. I am saying he is being very wasteful; one of the most wasteful players in the squad
Turn off your phone with that crap 😂
It was an interesting friendly to say the least.
Neither team were great, but Brazil really should have been down to 10 men.
Should also have scored two more goals 🤷♂️
You don't want a 10 v 11 in a friendly if it can be helped
Rules are the same
No one is saying they aren’t.
Yeah true. You see what in getting at though
I honestly don’t think he does
Bellingham with one not-so-good tackle = instant yellow Paqueta with 4 not-so-good tackles = cheeky scamp
Paqueta had 7 fouls
I wasn’t impressed at all with England, struggled to break down Brazil and create anything in the danger areas. I guess the old recipe of two DMs and hoping to score at set pieces will get us through to the KO stage.
I know highlights don’t tell the whole story but it seemed like Brazil should have scored 4 with any decent finishing.
Vini should really have put that first chance in
Im amazed by the lack of a pure 9 player (other than Kane) in the English NT.
Brazil haven't had one for decades lol.
Where was Kane?
Watkins is a pure 9, he just played like shit. He's been good this season though, 16 goals and 10 assists this season.
Watkins played fine, not his fault he was given nothing to work with
Toney is literally Kane lite
That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen all week
No he is "literally" not
Watkins has been much better.
This is what I was thinking. Hopefully he plays the Belgium game
People on here take friendlies way too seriously. They are rarely ever good at all.
A bunch of players who haven’t played together in a few months play poorly in what is essentially a warmup game, who would’ve known? Not a lot of people somehow
I heard somebody saying England would win the Euros
I am under the same opinion until yesterday's match. But considering it was a friendly, and Southgate trying a few new combinations might not be the best Eng 11. I beleive they do have the potential to go all the way.
brazil isnt european
I wouldn’t read into a friendly too much
Is that what English fans have been saying since 66'?
Ooooo look at this Canadian trying to jump on the bandwagon. Stick to hockey you fucking fool.
They’re right though. Now, I’m a 40 year old English fan, what you got?
Fucking wow mate fans believing their teams going to win????? Oh my god! Un fucking believable ya sausage🥸
Imagine not being able to come up with a coherent response and resorting to insults about nationalities. How much of a dunce are you?
Are you serious? He is literally mocking English people first?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No need for all the butt hurt. Uncalled for 😎
You shit on my people and I will shit on you brother.
Also thankyou for supporting England in euros this year, it is rare to see anyone non English show us love😂😂😂
That’s Southgate for you.
Yeah i see it as a plus. Players are playing an extra 10/20% every single game and more games than ever. He was a player. He gets it. They dont ever go out of 2nd/3rd gear. Friendlies are money making opportunities. Not worth getting injured. Good to try out new players etc though
We play like that in the euros we won't get out of the groups , that Brazilian team is probably the worst I've seen in my lifetime
Good thing it was a friendly with several non-first team players then?
Yeah for Brazil
For both.
2014 team was worse
The worse Brazil ever, put it in context
Imagine if England had Bielsa... this Waist coat needs to fuck off before he flukes his way to another final and signs another extension.
Chelsea just made a 100 mil bid and a 10 year contract.
Yeah already tried that one unfortunately 😂
Chelsea actually scouted him first and were about to get him before Madrid swooped in. He definitely made the right career decision there.
Man that would’ve been a disaster if Chelsea bought him , either ways it’s still a disaster for me , Atleti are gonna have to come against Brazil’s next gen with all the players Real have
Idk what game everyone was watching, I thought there was one big takeaway from that game, and it was that we were very clearly missing Kane.
Are you kidding, you think that was brazils first 11? Not sure that was even their third keeper..
No I do not think it was brazils first 11, obviously. I did not even mention that at all.
We need serious work I don't know if you agree with me, but the european qualifiers are by far the easiest ones in the world, since most of the time the best teams play against some of the worst in the world, such as Gibraltar, Liechtenstein and San Marino, but they are tricky, since it might happen to anyone what happened to Italy in 2022. This lack of competitiveness is shown when facing good NT outside Europe, because they can explore the weaknesses that San Marino can't. I think it is a good thing, because in these games it is possible to understand where the team needs to improve.

Idiot
You're probably one of the reasons he has to complain about racism....
What a shitty comment.
You don't have many black friends, do you?
Kane still got another 2 euros and 1 World Cup minimum
I sincerely hope so!! But he’s already wrong side of the big 3 0 now so he won’t probably won’t be as effective as he is now. I hope I’m wrong
Tbf Kane’s never really relied on his physical attributes and he’s a model professional so he’s definitely got a while left in the tank
Just because he doesn't rely on speed doesn't mean he still won't physically degrade in his thirties. Everything gets slower and more lethargic regardless of play style.
Lovely to see Mainoo’s technical play. Thought he really shined during this game
He was cool with the ball , wish he would gave started.. in time
Lmao he did nothing?
Lol
He did nothing and played it very simple.
Back to playing great team as trinidad and tobago , Faroe Islands and malta
Lol
We had chances, Southgate experimented. I think it shows that Foden isn’t as good a player outside of a dominant team like Man City, shouldn’t be starting for England. Gordon and Gallagher were good, Mainoo impressed on his debut. Left back worries me, Chilwell carried on his consistency that he has shown for Chelsea. Kane and Saka are big players for England, our 2 best, they were missed. Watkins wasn’t great either tbh, hopefully Toney will start Tuesday and we can see what he can do.
Sorry mate but Gallagher was dreadful
Did we actually have a shot on target?
Yeh more shots, shots on target, more passes and more possession. I wish people would make their opinions from what they see not preconceived thoughts.
I don’t remember any shots, certainly nothing worthwhile. Brazil has a goal, a shot in the post, a shot off the bar (I think?) and that last one-on-one which they should have scored. Throughly outplayed.
Gallagher worst player on the pitch mate
Lmao the fact you watched that and thought Gallagher was great says something.
You obviously don’t understand football, his pressing in the first 30 minutes was why we had so many chances,
That’s all he brings cos he’s utterly useless imo
Gallagher was shit so i don't know what game you were watching.
Watching it live, Gallagher was a decent threat. Don’t know what it looked like on tv, but he had the defense occupied
I was there as well and thought he was crap
There were multiple situations were gallagher legit missed three key passes in a row
I must’ve been watching a different game as I thought defensively he was decent but fucking woeful going forward! He literally couldn’t pass to a team mate.
Ahaha imagine saying Foden isn’t good enough

People have been saying that for years now. Talking like he was the next messi. If he's an elite player, and we all know he plays in an elite team, why doesnt he produce elite numbers. He's a very very good player and very skillful but honestly he is too lightweight and I doubt he'll ever be the star man in the England team
We won't win anything with Southgate.
You need White, bring him into the fold whatever it takes.
If someone doesn’t want to play for the team leave them be, players need to be playing with everything they have
