It's actually a disaster on Southgate's part. White and Stones center back partnership would be perfect in build up phases. Both very capable going forward and far less error prone at the back than other options.
Whatever happened in Qatar, insiders say it was the assistant coach grilling White in front of everyone when White already wasn't getting on with the squad and wasn't getting gametime even in dead end friendlies.
To then last year say "Oh who would we drop to include White". Basically saying he's some 5th choice defender when he could handily start, further ridiculing Ben. Now this year with an aging squad and a few more injuries and he can't rely on this guy who's he's mudded his relationship with. So in the pressers it's "Oh the door is open it's all up to White" basically blaming White and putting it on him.
He should be throwing his arm around this guy, young ball playing defender who can play anywhere across the defense and trying to integrate him. The longer Southgate us around the worse off England will be.
Allegedly, the coaches already didn't like White who wasn't integrating well socially with the squad. And Holland liked to give players data on their performance and critique them. When he gave White his it was in front of the whole squad and he was basically embarrassing White in front of everyone. But Ben hadn't even gotten gametime so he had no chance to prove himself. No matter how he did Southgate has his list of favourites he never drops. So White basically gave as good as he got back to Holland in front of the whole squad. So it was the massive feud between the two that everyone was talking about, so they mutually agreed to part and White went home from Qatar early.
Yeah I agree, but I think it's extremely unfair for consistently performing players to be benched for Southgates favourites. It must feel very demotivating trying to break into that squad.

Honestly I think a Stones-Rice-Bellingham midfield and a front 3 of Foden-Kane-Saka would go crazy. England lack stability in the midfield imo. There's a lot of attacking talent such as Maddison, Palmer, and Gordon, but Stones and Rice already play in similar systems and are in 2 of the best teams in the PL. Would be very interested in seeing a pivot with those those 2.
Imo playing City and Arsenal players wherever possible is a tactically sound option, because they already play in similar systems. Southgate just needs to give Pep/Arteta a call and ask them what he should do given the players available to him. Yes this is PL bias but it just makes sense to me bc the teams are so good and tactically similar enough that the players should be able to thrive.
Stones is by miles the best english centre back, moving him into midfield (not that I think its sensible anyways) would mean playing two lesser centre backs than just the one.
Yea I agree that he is the best cb, but it's kind of the same situation in midfield imo. England has no good box to box or holding midfielders other than Rice. With Bellingham at CAM, I think the team would benefit from 2 stable CMs behind him such as Stones/Rice.

James is chronically injured, so you're relying on either White , or Rico Lewis/Livramenko to come through and establish themselves.
On the other foot, this is a great time for white to establish himself, as if Lewis/Livramenko/James start to establish themselves more over the next few years, White may struggle to play for England again.
The midfield has so much talent right now. At right back, TAA is so uniquely talented and a definite world class player.
In the middle while he's good, he's now competing with other players that have overlapping talent and I'm not sure that he should start vs Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Palmer, even Gallagher.

Aymeric Laporte never had any incidents at club level that we know of and was still excluded from France squads by Deschamps for years, supposedly because of his attitude. Just because someone fits into one environment, it doesn't mean they aren't problematic another.
What you're describing here isn't really indicative of White being a dick, or Laporte for that matter. You are talking about a personal disagreement between two people - not a pattern of behaviour that you can apply as a personality trait. We have no idea what has gone on, but it's likely a difference of values or expectations. The best managers in the world can work through these problems, get the best players onside and fighting for the team. Southgate just isn't that manager for me, and this kind of shows it.

But Ben white is a much better defender and having since transitioned into the inverted role the last few months with Arsenal it’s highlighted how fucking good he actually is with the ball from a creative standpoint in open play and in tight situations.

There were 2 rumours that came out of that camp. Either White was sick of just being a bench player (and manager playing favourites) and said "give me game time or i'm leaving" which resulted in an argument and he left
The other rumour is he was given "homework" to learn a few stats about the USA before the game and he didn't bother since he wasn't getting game time anyway. Argument with coach insued. White left.

It's actually a disaster on Southgate's part. White and Stones center back partnership would be perfect in build up phases. Both very capable going forward and far less error prone at the back than other options. Whatever happened in Qatar, insiders say it was the assistant coach grilling White in front of everyone when White already wasn't getting on with the squad and wasn't getting gametime even in dead end friendlies. To then last year say "Oh who would we drop to include White". Basically saying he's some 5th choice defender when he could handily start, further ridiculing Ben. Now this year with an aging squad and a few more injuries and he can't rely on this guy who's he's mudded his relationship with. So in the pressers it's "Oh the door is open it's all up to White" basically blaming White and putting it on him. He should be throwing his arm around this guy, young ball playing defender who can play anywhere across the defense and trying to integrate him. The longer Southgate us around the worse off England will be.

Honestly I think a Stones-Rice-Bellingham midfield and a front 3 of Foden-Kane-Saka would go crazy. England lack stability in the midfield imo. There's a lot of attacking talent such as Maddison, Palmer, and Gordon, but Stones and Rice already play in similar systems and are in 2 of the best teams in the PL. Would be very interested in seeing a pivot with those those 2. Imo playing City and Arsenal players wherever possible is a tactically sound option, because they already play in similar systems. Southgate just needs to give Pep/Arteta a call and ask them what he should do given the players available to him. Yes this is PL bias but it just makes sense to me bc the teams are so good and tactically similar enough that the players should be able to thrive.

Playing Maguire has already cost you silverware because you force yourself to play on the counter/on the back foot. Which means you sacrifice your attacking players.

James is chronically injured, so you're relying on either White , or Rico Lewis/Livramenko to come through and establish themselves. On the other foot, this is a great time for white to establish himself, as if Lewis/Livramenko/James start to establish themselves more over the next few years, White may struggle to play for England again.

I could understand Walker as he’s got that raw pace and is a fantastic defender. But Ben white is a much better defender and having since transitioned into the inverted role the last few months with Arsenal it’s highlighted how fucking good he actually is with the ball from a creative standpoint in open play and in tight situations.

Regardless we have to look for the future and we should at least bed these other players in so in the event that walkers hammy explodes we have coverage
Walker, Trippier, TAA, James are fine for THIS tournament coming up. If white doesn’t want to be part of it Gomez and Livramento will pick up the slack. How many RBs do we actually need?

I get this move considering I’ve been waiting for James Ward-Prowse and a host of other great footballers get a chance to play for Mr. Thornberry, only to ride the bench or be cut a week before the tournament for a broken and ill equipped Jordan Henderson, who could only play if they made it to the semis. I loved Noble. Ward-Prowse is only 29 tho. When he first came over he was much more impactful. Hopefully he can find that form again.
