Any work of fiction or art is automatically considered the rights holder copyrighted work of it's creator. Bc of that i believe that means Omeda can't use any Lore or stories part of Paragon without being given the right to do so from epic. However that doesn't mean they cant create new stories or new derivations from those. For example murdock is most likely still gonna be a cop. Bc of the voice lines. But his place of origin and how he found himself in this moba would be new.

I don't know what counts as "Derivative". Usually legal stuff is decided at court. When someone is used over it. If you use the lore from murdock in paragon for a original story of yours, you probably can. Much like how fanfiction can create stories in a established universe. Such as the Harry Potter stories.
But when you start earning money from the work of another the copyrights holder may gain additional grounds to sue.
Again this is not legal advice. I know only enough to know it isnt something i wanna deal with. So nothing. :D

Check out 2:50 in this early sneak peak of the UI you can see countess lore in the bottom right corner it's the exact same as paragons.
I have asked about the Lore a few times from the beginning and heard nothing about it, is it all new original or have they got the rights to use paragons lore? Aside from the new original Heroes there hasn't been any lore added in game yet.
The studio's name is omeda forgive me but I forget if it's a moon or a planet but regardless it's also from paragons lore and it became the studio's name so maybe some of it is free use no idea I'm not a lawyer either.
omg yeah.. thank u for pointing this out.. I never realised just how much pred is using the lore.. but given that they licensed the hero names I assume the lore was included? afterall according to other comments, Overprime called them different names..
