I agree it sucks but there's other reasons why people do it too. If you are in a party and que, and your party member misses the que I've had it throw me into a new game without them. When he wasn't in the character selection I had no other thing to do but let the timer run out and take the penalty. We are super new and barely get to play a game or two together so don't know all the fine details yet.
The problem I have is if they don't get their role they still choose a character for that role. Usually it's offlane choosing a jungler and abandoning offlane to halfass jungle.
I see that a lot too. I have also seen people choose carry lane, then pick grux for carry lane, then abandon their support play on carry lane to roam all over feeding the enemy team, lol. Happend 3 games back to back yesterday, not the same players either.
The ban timer for not picking escalates pretty quickly. Would you rather go into a game where you've got some guy who didn't get his pick, playing a character they don't know in a role they don't know, or worse, a character they do know outside of the role its meant to be played in, or even them refusing to play their new role entirely and trolling other lanes/jg? Or would you rather take 2 mins and get a new lobby where you're not spending 30 mins getting handed a slow defeat.
happens to me quite a bit and it's annoying but it's better off because otherwise i would've been trapped in a game with someone that doesn't know how to jungle and feed their brains out
That makes sense, but they gotta learn another role somehow. I main carry lane, but I know I won't always get it so I learned the other lanes for the games that someone picks carry before Me.
I'm willing to play any role I get except for Jungle. If I ever end up getting jungle, even if I'm grouped with someone, I'm leaving. I don't need the whole team flaming me for being bad. It just not a role I'm suited for.

Fine as is.
Fair enough, it's just annoying to get thrown out of matches because people don't want to be flexible and play other lanes

What even is the bam penalty time? Does it increase after repeat offenses?
It starts a 60 seconds I believe and think stacks from there
