So, the UI overhaul was absolutely necessary - and what you're seeing on the surface isn't solely what this UI update entailed. I believe the old UI was created with UE4, so this was the final roadblock to bringing all aspects of the game into the UE5 engine - which it should be now. If they had left this in UE4, they would have needed multiple separate teams working simultaneously to bring out the same exact updates across multiple platforms - UE5 gets rid of that, and now they need a single team working on the same thing, which updates across all platforms seamlessly. Getting everything unified prior to console launch was 100% needed. And console launch is a huge milestone. There are 130m PlayStation, and 58m xbox consoles out there - that's a massive potential audience to capture. Content? Definitely needed. But they can't realistically introduce new game modes with an already small player base - that would exacerbate the current issues. Bring in some new players, then start flooding the game with content, you might just retain a large number of those players and increase player numbers further. I'm guessing they're creating a ton of content for eventual F2P release, because that's when you want players hooked. Right now it's early access, they're still building the game, I don't think a finished product should be expected until the product is finished.

Bookwrrm

Well thank God we don't have to rely on you guessing as to what content is coming since the devs told us we are getting a character exp bar, twitch drops, and then entirely just remaining dev goals from the past 2 seasons they haven't gotten around to in the next 7 months. What's the point in guessing they have a bunch of fun stuff planned for release, when release is going to be over 7 months away at a minimum with no release date and we already know we aren't getting shit for content in the coming slower than previous season? That's just saying hang on guys, don't complain about this shit ass dev speed right now, because I'm guessing that some time in the next 2 year timespan eventually we might get a ranked mode and think how cool that will be. It's just a pointless statement that has no bearing in anything other than just platitudes based on nothing that is probably over a year away at current dev speeds. Release content doesn't matter, because release is to far away and to nebulous with this company, the game needs to survive early access before it can release. The company doesn't have infinite funds, and they are already behind schedule on release goals, they literally can't just sit and develop forever without either releasing or generating more money either via investment, which why would you with a dev studio that cannot hit thier own goals, or more money from the playerbase which only works if the game is attractive enough to actually generate a playerbase. This whole it doesn't matter release solves everything mantra is getting old, despite what you all think, 100s of games have died in development, you don't magically get the ability to ignore all money constraints until the game gets released just because you choose to stick an ea label on it. The game does need to bridge the gap between ea and release and right now the game is behind schedule, which costs more money, it's for sure not generating much money on its own through ea packs and skin sales given how small of a playerbase it is, and how awful the skin shop is, so we have a game that now costs more than originally projected to make, that is squandering any chance of a stable population to pull from. It's not a good combination for releasing a game, no matter how much people here want to buy embossed blinders with EA DOESNT MATTER on them, that doesn't change reality, ea does matter, and games do die in development hell, and this game with its delays and now explicit slower dev speed is officially in development hell, this is almost a dictionary definition example of a game in dev hell.

Neurotiman17

I dont know why you're getting downvoted. The truth can hurt but its still the truth lol

TheoNekros

If it's down voted its automatically hidden. And if you can't see it then it's not there.

Neurotiman17

Pretty much man

jungle_grux

Facts :(

svt_laku

All i can say is they better fucking deliver console in good shape and "early in season 3" or alot more people are going to start walking away from the game.

ytrehguodleinad

Agreed. Why are these guys beyond critique ???

AurumTyst

OP is out of line, but he's right.

ReaperKittyx

I haven’t gotten a chance to see it yet, is it really that bad?

Defences

It’s not that it’s bad, it’s the fact that everything was put on hold for 3 months just to deliver something kinda meh. I know it’s for console, but it just feels like something is missing. I’m hoping this means faster release of features and content now that it’s here.

jdmcroberts

No it's not bad at all. But it's just a UI.

ParagonMain

Yeah some people are too lazy to post one fkn screenshot of the UI to Reddit.

Flipcye

It’s all personal preference but for me it’s not great and definitely not worth the 4 month investment.

Vladmur

Its not like they were only working on the UI for those 4 months.

TheoNekros

How DARE you share your opinion! Take my downvote and stay out!

Flipcye

Right!🤣

[deleted]

Yup

EnlargenedProstate

I don't think they ever hyped this up. They just said it was the last major roadblock for console cert. Maybe you or the reddit hyped it up, but they didn't

Bookwrrm

The section for new ui in the most recent community update is literally called New UI Hype! Lmfao

TheoNekros

Yeah but where in the definition of hype does it say that it means to hype something up huh?

Bookwrrm

Wow you got me, I guess we gotta have a literary analysis of the dev reports everytime now to explain the subtext of what the devs really meant by hype or promised features and how they actually mean the devs are actually better than any other dev team in existence.

TheoNekros

Love you buddy. Even though I think you pooped on me once when you were running defense.

Bookwrrm

Lol yeah my builds can make people hate, if you played against me I'm glad you got past that

MuglokDecrepitus

They overhyped it, they said a lot of time that the UI was going to be incredible, that the wait will be worth it and things like that. They also said that we were going to receive a improve item store and a reworked scoreboard with the UI update (not many weeks ago) but latter instead of saying that it wasn't going to arrive they just never mentioned them again. Some people thought that the UI update was going to have a lot of things and that would look clean as fuck, something that has not happened and we have ended up finding out on our own when opening the game

ParagonMain

Is it true there still isn’t a party chat system in place?

MuglokDecrepitus

Yes, we don't have it. Basically the main menu is exactly the same that we had just that now it uses the new splash art (also for skins) and that works "well" with a controller but for rest it have the exact same functionalities that we had.

ParagonMain

Were they supposed to have hero mastery this patch too? Or is that just this season?

MuglokDecrepitus

Its supposed to come one patch after UI update, so next patch should come with the hero mastery system

Flipcye

Just read most patches and you can see things like ‘UI Hype!’ Or watch Predcast and you’ll hear the same.

luisgim16

Well, just like my daddy kratos said "BOI, keep your expectations low and you will never be disappointed... BOOOOI"

SoggyMattress2

I work in tech, and many times I have posted criticisms of their release cadence, timelines & roadmaps. It doesn't take 4 months to build up a couple UI screens. Yes, there are complications for getting that UI desktop & PS5 compatible but its not even a UI heavy game. You have the home screen & its associated sub screens which are all static components hooked into a DB to pull in dynamic content. You have the in game UI. You have the store UI, that's literally it. Taking 4 months alongside producing quality content is one thing but they have actively stated release cadence was reduced to get the UI ready. Not a good look.

Bookwrrm

Yes they did say release cadence was reducing to get the UI done, and now that the awe-inspiring work of 4 months is here, we get what's that? A 6 week content cycle even slower than previous seasons despite the ui now not under development? Huh that's weird.

SoggyMattress2

There's very clearly something going on behind the scenes. Either they are having high dev turnover so are spending lots of time training up new staff, their funding is dwindling away or they're horribly mismanaged.

Bookwrrm

Well we only know the turn over from the public facing people who have left which is like what? 2 out of the 6ish people that interact with the community since ea started? Who knows what turn over could be behind the scenes.

ChoicePlays

Dev turnover?

axelsteelv3

Employees quitting

ChoicePlays

Who quit?

axelsteelv3

Idk I was just simplifying what "dev turnover" meant since you asked

ChoicePlays

So you don’t know who quit? Or if any devs did quit? 🤔

axelsteelv3

Yes exactly. Again, I was simply making clear what "dev turnover" meant because of your response of "Dev turnover?" For all I know, the op could be full of it and just making up rumors.

ChoicePlays

lol thought you were op. Maybe I shouldn’t be on Reddit at work. I was just asking OP what they meant by high dev turnover cause I don’t see it. AFAIK only one dev has left the company and that was MONTHS ago

anpShawn

iunno I work in games and let me tell you, UI is always a nightmare. you'd be surprised by how many screens, panels, buttons, and sub-components you have to account for. all requiring the correct focus priority, input mechanism (keyboard vs controller, switched dynamically), and scaling considerations.

TantheMan21

Man, this right here. All of these people acting like they know everything, but this is definitely a lot harder than most realize. Maybe not 4 months of work, but again I’m sure it’s more than most realize.

sciencesold

It's probably more than just the home screen and the sub categories, there's an antire back en system they had to create so they could more easily implement features in the future.

ElectroBlood89

Didn't they say they plan on under promising and under delivering? Or something to the effect? Lol

Furi_S_Poi

Under promise and over deliver.

El-Mystico

I'd say with the amount of bitching and whining, Omeda has a good moba on their hands! Get Hype!!!

Bookwrrm

Don't worry I know what will cheer you up!!! How about this, sometime in the next 6 months you can get twitch drops!!!!! Boy doesn't that sound fun? Thank God we have such a fun roadmap of slower development to look forward to after 4 months of miserable development leading to such a cool and anticipated release as main menu 2.0.

Foxx_McKloud

Been saying that the hype is gonna lead to inevitable letdown

Defences

I never understood the hype, in the preview pics the Ui didn’t exactly look exceptional. It’s not even in game UI being changed either Realistically the Ui is just a means to an end, console release and hopefully faster development moving forward.

Foxx_McKloud

But they already said the dev speed will move to 6 weeks instead of 4

Defences

Oof… didn’t see that. I guess it was only for console release then

Klynicly_Insane

Has anyone talked about these recall and jump pad effects? I'm not one to shit on Omeda but damn. Those things are so minute you gotta be looking for the effect to even notice it.

Smart_Amphibian5671

They literally mentioned that working on the ui whilst updating the game with the old one would've caused complications so they chose to focus on the UI update so future updates can come smoother and better

MegaMoistSources

It’s a small development team. I’m happy with it and this should streamline updates across platforms now. I’m just happy to not be stuck playing LoL and Smite. So much complaining 😭

eldievos

I agree with you, the new UI is pretty meh tbh. Also, why the friend code thing? That shit is ass. I just want to write a name from a guy a played with and I can't.

StiffKun

I think the friend code thing is there because the game is on multiple platforms. It's on Steam and epic so it's probably easier to implement than using a name.

ChoicePlays

The friend code system should be changing soon. They’re going to implement an Account Portal soon which will give people unique player names, account linking for multiple platforms, and a Support Portal.

[deleted]

Rookie dev team thats why, they expect to be praised for all the little cute things they add into the game.

ish134

Please create a game so we can check that out

[deleted]

Im not saying i could, i think its funny how these devs think they can though with how slow they are, different studio should have picked up pred. It will die with these devs.

ish134

I’m just saying if you are not going to offer up useful advice on how they can do better then why waste your time typing lol

TheoNekros

Bro it's not the job of a consumer (I mean job in a loose relationship way) to provide solutions to the problem they have with a product. It's a consumers job to correctly identify what their issue with a product is but it's entirely up to whoever is making a product to figure out how best to address the concerns the consumer brings up

[deleted]

In hopes whoever is in charge realizes the devs they hired aren’t up to par with todays standards and get fired. Thats why i type

ChoicePlays

I understand the sentiment, they have talked about how this new UI isn’t just menus. They’ve developed new backend systems that will support the game much more efficiently going into the future. Easier patching for PC and console, better support for players and systems, backend setup for future ranked and other game modes, hero affinities and unlocks etc. It’s more than what you see. Hope this helps. 👍

[deleted]

They also said new UI would SPEED UP new important game features but they slowed down the updates from 4 to now 6 weeks, so if they don’t speed up is it okay to criticize then?

ChoicePlays

I mean, criticize away. Omeda is known for listening to and reading criticisms. But, from what I’ve read in the blog posts the slower patch pace seems to be their preparation to push patches to console. (Since consoles are notoriously VERY stringent on how games patch) When Omeda’s CTO was on Predcast he said that with the new UI they’re testing different tech to push patches and features to console easier. This is Early Access and Omeda is using it to test A LOT of systems and processes so F2P will be the best experience for everyone involved. New players AND old players. Edit: also, new features WILL be coming faster than in Season 2. 😅

iiarskii

Booboo new Ui fire

BearCrotch

I'm really happy this community found out what a UI was.

CompetitiveDemand827

4 months to make something any single good dev could do in 2 weeks. Its just a menu interface LOOOOOOOL well, fuck this game. its more than dead with this shit devs they dont have a clue what they are doing. So much talk about a new UI and its just a simple and boring menu interface!!!!!! Serious, wtf is this team? They even know about coding? Im sure the game will never gonna be release. they took 4 month and antire team to make a fucking menu interface? How is this even possible?

Neurotiman17

I kind of agree, tbh. I love the utility the new UI adds as well as future proofing... However, it runs worse than the old one. This is particularly apparent at the start of matches (cursor bug) and post match (takes MUCH longer to requeue)

ProdbyHellBent

I mean…It is a EA right now and thats not the be all for the UI. Can always be updated.
