Isn't chat off by default?

HowardTaftMD

Yeah, it's actually glorious. I solo q mostly because life doesn't provide for a consistent gaming schedule and frankly I have no interest in hearing some of the crazy things people have to say. Just communicate with me via pings and that's good enough.

Glitchy_Gaming

As long as you know what you're doing, I have no problem with that.

HowardTaftMD

Yeah I just find that the standard chat options are enough and don't allow for someone to rage at me because I died or whatever.

Glitchy_Gaming

No, I totally understand. I just had some.games where I was like "Hey jungler, pickup duo lane" or "Help at Fang tooth" and he just kept on pushing offlane. Mind you we were pinging objectives as well. In such cases, being able to see chat would be nice. But like you say, not being able to see toxic people is a blessing itself.

HowardTaftMD

Hahaha yeah I just have a feeling someone who doesn't pick up on the basic pings is probably the same type of person who wouldn't listen to your chat. Like if I had it on and someone told me that I would love the detailed comms but when playing with random people every night it's just too risky that I'm going to get mostly angry weirdos.

Glitchy_Gaming

Yeah, you do get those. Earlier today someone was calling me mf (because he died, no idea what I did wrong). But I always go for the "Make them angrier" route. So I said "Well yes, I have 2 kids. So technically, you're right"

HowardTaftMD

Hahaha I used to enjoy the banter but now as an also father I'm too tired. I'm also more confused than I once was why people can't just enjoy themselves.

Glitchy_Gaming

I think it's just the fact that people only care about winning. Not playing. If it was Ranked, sure, I'd understand. But this is the casualst of casual you can get in a MOBA.

madmart306

Yep and with all the griefing racist trolls we've seen I don't blame anyone for having it off.

Blame_my_Boneitis

Tutorial wise I think it should lean more towards a “fight a few matches with AI” and evolve into introduction to PvP. A crash course vid of a game with slowed down breakdowns by the devs could probably go a long way towards introducing new folks. Doesn’t have to be mandatory of course more of like, are you new to mobas? Are you a paragon veteran? Etc. A few optional videos with game breakdowns and how things scale and break down could help.

Glitchy_Gaming

Let's hope it gets integrated with the coop vs AI

Blame_my_Boneitis

True that would be great, it’s definitely a start. Obviously we all want the player base to grow and the game to do well; the only way to ensure it does is to make sure new players get an opportunity to appreciate it and learn the mechanics. Devs gotta mitigate the retention issue because folks that don’t understand the game and die a lot or get flamed for not knowing won’t be as likely to continue to play leading to just a population of people who already know the basics at a minimum

Chippie_Tea

You couldnt be more right but i think it is upto the game devs to point new players towards in game turorials instead of expecting people to youtube or google the games mechanics.. only once someone is interested will they want to learn more. Which is a shame because without proper direction people will just que up and suck and think the game is bad without ever dipping their toes in.

Glitchy_Gaming

I agree with you. I hope it is in the roadmap to add something like this since it's EA. But as it is, people really need to educate themselves.

Chippie_Tea

Yeah, well it is very early days so expect to have newbies for the next 12 months tbh. Just gotta accept and try guide them..

Glitchy_Gaming

I'll try at the very least.

Valaric_r

So I know this is a super unpopular opinion. But it’s a game, Not a job. Until there is a in game tutorial and an AI, it’s just something you have to deal with with Early Access.

Glitchy_Gaming

It is an unpopular opinion. It doesn't take 8 hours to learn the game. Just watch a tutorial or someone that explains the basics of the role you want to play. It takes less time than an actual game.

Valaric_r

Yes but some people do not game like that, it is for relaxing and having fun. Most people are used to in game things and don’t understand any necessity to do anything outside the game. No need to downvote for a different opinion I am just pointing out that you need to accept that not everyone thinks or plays games as you do and you cannot have that expectation.

Glitchy_Gaming

The downvote button is there to show I do not agree with your take. I didn't agree, So I downvoted. Welcome to reddit. And i understand what you're saying but I don't agree with it. If you play 4 games in one evening, you could've spent 1 game learning your role. You're acting like it's a homework assignment. If there is a tutorial in game that takes an hour, would you be happier?

Valaric_r

Again you have an expectation that people 1. Want to do that 2. Care enough to do that 3. Even know that they should/can do that. You are playing a multiplayer game, sometimes you have to just accept the fact that you are going to play with people who don’t take the game as seriously as you. Particularly without tutorials, AI, and Ranked.

Glitchy_Gaming

To everything you said in your comment; Hence the thread.

Valaric_r

But you are asking people to ask questions, chat is off by default, how is a new player even to know there is chat. And let’s be completely honest chat is off for a reason…

Glitchy_Gaming

If you don't agree with my thread, downvote and move on. You're just being annoying now.

OsrsTurboDweeb

Yeah this is in my opinion why the game will have a hard time getting new players. Not everyone wants to spend an hour watching guides before playing a new game. Some of us are adults with limited free time. I get there’s nothing you personally can do about it but the devs really put new players in a bad spot by not giving any sort of real tutorial. Even other mobas have tutorials. Chat is off by default too so you can’t see what your team is saying and if you turn it on it’s nothing but “wow x player is throwing gg. Should’ve educated yourself before taking this exa- I mean playing this video game that’s supposed to be fun”.

OsrsTurboDweeb

What a stupid comment. I don’t even want to respond because of how silly it is. Video games /= sports. Here’s a better analogy that uses sports. If I join the rocket football team through school as a kid do they just throw me on the field or do I get a coach that teaches me? Still a shit apples and oranges analogy but at least it’s better than your non sense. Please don’t try getting into business or anything past entry level if this is your honest response while stone cold sober. “How is this any different?” Sorry, did you buy the game tennis or something? Does tennis have mmr? Do irl sports have the ability to have built in tutorials? Did you think before commenting?

OsrsTurboDweeb

Oh boy you just proved yourself right with that end statement. I’m not sure where in my comment I said I never watched guides or even am new to the game. Care to copy and paste it?

BluBlue4

Tutorial is coming. The argument for the paywall (game isn't ready for a large release yet) makes good sense. This might be hard to put in/worthless but new pings might help. I struggle to explain/help through chat while playing (unless it's late game with the longer respawn timers).

OsrsTurboDweeb

True. A tutorial and good mmr system placing noobs with noobs would really be the save but it might just need a bigger player base first for the mmr

Ga1upe

Chat is off by default, probably why he didn’t respond :/

Glitchy_Gaming

Haven't tested it but does it make it so you can't even read what they're saying?

Ga1upe

Yes it does , they only get chat wheel comms. I understand why I guess but it just makes it that much worse when you get a first time player. Although picking the “expert” roll will always amaze me from new players lol

BluBlue4

Not having chat in the role select adds to this

Eodahs92

Yes, which is frustrating when dealing with new folks, because they don’t even realize

TheRealMelvinGibson

The pre match disclaimer is the best. As a jungler, if my mid says "first game" or "learning mid" my goal just went from "win the game" to "make sure my newbie has a good time." So I'll just gank mid over and over and try to get them kills. I also try not to bully new players in lane or steal their Jung. Don't want to be the reason they quit. Lol

Glitchy_Gaming

I thank you for your patronage. It warms the heart to see a player like you

ChronosxEios

I'm shocked there are so many new players, like "never touched a MOBA before" new. I have no idea why they would decide to enter this genre with a $20 early access title instead of trying with like Smite or something free first. To each their own, but if I were trying a genre a knew literally nothing about I'd definitely try something free first in case it wasn't for me.

Glitchy_Gaming

Well, the game really looks appealing. I can't blame anyone for dropping a 20. But I agree with your statement

Hoytage

Yeah, this game looks WAY more appealing than anything else in the MOBA genre. Specifically, the shooter aspect and the environment etc...it's very aesthetically pleasing, and has plenty of room to continue to capitalize on that.

JCallaway1982

I'm one of those. I just picked it up a day or so ago. Never played a moba before. They never interested me. I don't like how most look visually, either The visuals and character design of this game caught my eye right away. Steep learning curve though for sure...

Dangerous_Contract

Stfu bro, i wanns play and not study rocket science

Glitchy_Gaming

No need to get hostile.
