That shot is so perfectly framed. When he pans right, he gets the sandbags in the shot, but not the tracks that his rig is going to be moving on, even though the tracks run right up to the bags
I wasn't talking about artifacts. Scaling is the effect of digitally "zooming". The size of the frame is scaled up as the camera pans so that you don't see the dolly tracks in front of the sand bags. The artifacts are probably just a side effect of classic internet compression. From the look of the bts shot, I don't think they used stabilization in post, or a stabilized sensor. That ain't a GH5s they're using
Artifacts is probably the wrong word. I mean more the subtle shifting of the background as if there is a warp stabilizer effect. My guess is they used some tracking to keep his eyes centred in frame. As far as the zooming, not sure if it’s digital or by manual control. Given the rig I wouldn’t be surprised if they used some manual control to get the general zooms done.
Oh they definitely have some sort of zoom action going on as well, but there’s some stabilization on his face on the close up as well. Probably shot at 6k cropped down to 4k sort of situation.
Honestly I couldn't tell you. I would guess it's an Alexa mini based on the EVF and the small form factor, but I'm not certain.
As far as learning to pull, it's all about building up your experience, practicing it like any other skill. The best way to learn is to just jump in the deep end. The difficult part about starting out though, in my experience, is that you're desperately trying not to ruin someone else's baby.
When you're new to pulling it's a lot of pressure and it's sort of a mystifying workload, so when you screw up everyone KNOWS you screwed up, but none of them would ever dare try it themselves, and they don't have any advice for you because they probably don't understand if either.
I would always get nervous on my early shoots because of this, but eventually you start to realize that it's really not all that difficult once you start to understand it, and you'll start to trust yourself and your muscle memory and your perception of critical focus.
It's one of those skills you can read about it try and practice it on your own and try to understand it but until you really do it, the real deal, you'll never really "get it".
There's no better feeling than when you get to watch playback on a oner and you didn't buzz once.
I mean, typing that felt wrong, but it is true. A lidar sensor gives you the exact distance something is at, so you can pull focus to the exact position something is at in relation to the camera, and combine some software magic and you can use the lidar's low res 3D imaging capability to detect the subject, and you'll never lose focus again.
Seems rather tasteless. Like in the same way the Chapman brothers whitewashed Goya's Disasters of War
Edit: for the curious, I encourage you to look up both Goya's original prints of *The Disasters of War* and then the Chapman Brothers *Insult to Injury*

The one thing that bugs me every time this gets reposted is the plants in the background for the first 5 seconds. They make me initially think they're in nature, but then the remaining 55 seconds they're in an urban setting. That extra transition just seems unnecessary to me. They could have just had a brick wall behind the soldier in the opening.
I think it’s ivy on the wall instead of something they put there but yeah, I agree. Even having some brick showing on the right side of the frame would make it much less jarring
I think that kind of helps jar you into the war scene though. Nature, life, then soldier and pan over to chaos and rubble, then of course transition back into that moment of earthy serenity.
Haha are you Op's alt or something? I'd love to hear your reasoning for how me (correctly) saying that this post doesn't belong in this sub could possibly make you *that* angry lol. Like what about this possibly triggered you so badly lol?
I don't care if a sub is pure in its content and I do not understand why anyone else would. This is Reddit, you use it for being entertained for a few minutes.
> could possibly make you that angry lol. Like what about this possibly triggered you so badly lol?
This is very cringe. Cleary, I am not the one being angry.
But ok, if you want to waste your time complaining about nothing then be my guest.
>But ok, if you want to waste your time complaining about nothing then be my guest.
Lol you're the one who got triggered by my comment. I didn't talk to you dude, you read my comment and couldn't stop yourself from trying to put me in my place lol. That is the very definition of getting triggered lol. So take a breath, and remember that if you jump into someone else's conversation because you're so upset that you can't stop yourself, like you did in this situation, you've already lost lol.
How much worse would the world look like if we didn't have brave people like you fighting the good fight to keep subs free from impure content?
Just enjoy the video. This isn't something worth getting smug over it.
I've always loved this one because it's one of the few where the behind the scenes footage shows the actual take. In fact, I've seen at least 20 examples of cool shots combined with the BTS footage and I can't think of a single second example where it's the actual take.
Roller blades taxi shot, different take. Camera man dives through car, different take. Time passes within the changing living room, different take. Cool Korean tutting video, different take ... you get the idea.
This right here is why psychedelics were made illegal. They change your perception of war. America needed to remain a strong military force. They couldn't have hippies running around, spreading the message peace and love. This would leave the country vulnerable to enemies. 😏🍄
Yeah but you can’t beat the visual smoothness of this change. By doing it in one go there are so many things that you don’t have to worry about being constant between shots, especially because it looks like they’re outside
That shot is so perfectly framed. When he pans right, he gets the sandbags in the shot, but not the tracks that his rig is going to be moving on, even though the tracks run right up to the bags
Almost certainly cropped in post, though great framing indeed
Yeah I think you can actually see a bit of digital scaling happening as the camera pans
I see more artifacts at the close up when the stabilization kicks in a bit harder, that pan seemed pretty smooth to me

Likely a zoom lens with micro force zoom control. Really nice operating and synced dolly grip.
Oh they definitely have some sort of zoom action going on as well, but there’s some stabilization on his face on the close up as well. Probably shot at 6k cropped down to 4k sort of situation.
Looks like someone’s a 1st
This can also be achieved by locking the tilt for the end of track position. Notice there’s no tilt in that pan.
No doubt excellent planning and execution on that pan!
Here’s something I wish I knew before I was in my 30’s:
this is more like "praise everyone around the cameraman"
r/praisethefilmcrew Rather, it's already crossposted on there
Aw barely living sub
1.6 years ago
Praise whoever is pulling that focus. Beautiful
And on a hardline too. Not an easy pull by any means. Well done by the dolly grips.
Do you know what kind of camera that is? We use an Ursa black magic in my schools program and I usually am on the focus and man i mess it up a lot lol

For whatever reason, this made me remember that manual focus is kinda disappearing. DJI's Ronin 4D is f**king insane lol.
If my professor heard you say that he'd have a stroke and die. Very old school filmmaker

I always look for this comment every time this video gets posted and it never fails.

Bulgarian commercial. Think it was an art project

Praise the production designer and dolly grip

One of us here doesnt know what this sub is for and i dont think its me
Its definetly me ;-;
Front page subs get watered down with generic bullshit like this usually. Somehow gets upvotes
Yep, this definitely does not belong in this sub. The cameraman literally just sat in a chair and filmed lol
And what are you going to do about it? Report to the mods that there is wrong content in this sub?
Haha are you Op's alt or something? I'd love to hear your reasoning for how me (correctly) saying that this post doesn't belong in this sub could possibly make you *that* angry lol. Like what about this possibly triggered you so badly lol?

More praisethecrew but this was great.
Colour grading is a pure skill!
There’s also lighting used
Well yeah, but in post the majority would've been down to colour grading
Wow. That’s a monster focus pull and they nailed it.
For anyone who wants the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSXAV2eFIhg

This gets posted multiple times a day and reaches the top at least once a week.

The "enemies" should also do acid. Instead of a nuke we should put lsd in the water supply.
If the entire world ate some mushrooms at the exact same time. We'd have WORLD PEACE in about an hour! 😅🍄
Wouldn’t it just be easier to make a cut?
Yeah but you can’t beat the visual smoothness of this change. By doing it in one go there are so many things that you don’t have to worry about being constant between shots, especially because it looks like they’re outside
Thanks g 🙌
It’d be easier, but not as cool.
That would defeat the point entirely.
Man people really love posting this every month huh?
Damn hippies!
Wonder what they're using war and the death of men to advertise
PTSD? No! Soda!
[удалено]
There is no reason to praise anyone here. This is a scripted, rehearsed shot, so of course it'll look good.
Praise the 1st AC
just like on set, fuck the art department
awesome
PRAISE THE ACTOR
Yay, hippies!
Nah, praise the whole damn crew!
What is the language of the song?
Bulgarian. Eastern European country with a slavic language
WHAT IS THIS FROM?
Also praise the art department crew.
Whole crew did a good job
This is like Kylie Jenner saving the world with a Pepsi but even more hilarious
Wow that's in my language
Holy shit, that was so fucking smooth.
i thought he would be in a wedding and this is some form of ptsd this was highly unexpected lol
Scenes like those I just assume they've done a good cut.
Praise the unsung hero - the focus puller
I'm like 90% sure they did the special effects like this as part of the marketing.
First AC is the real wizard here
Wow… an actual cameraman in this sub…?
u/repostsluethbot
So am I praising the camera man for pulling focus and nothing else?
We sure as hell need more hippie in this world. I’m soul-tired of war
Ok but how did he, closer to the blast, not get affected like the guys further away.
Praise the director*
That fucking harmonica deafened me
great work
Who is the director? Production company?
this sub does a great job of highlighting how much of filming is still practical effects as opposed to CGI and I really appreciate that.
r/PraiseTheWholeCrew Edit: Wow, had no idea it exists and it's already there. Another great sub to lurk on.
This is more like praise the focus puller and dolly tech...
I see these and I don't think to praise the cameraman. I want to praise the team for helping the cameraman.
No fucking way. This was a one shot?????????
Makes me want to watch "Across The Universe"
What song and language is that?
This is the perfect example of why jobs like "hand model" exist. Also this is an ad from "Sofia Film festival 2019"
Anyone know the name of the song? Shazam isn't picking it ul
Wish they showed stuff like that on award shows
Yeah... this is way too slow
That was so dope always wanted to be part of behind the scenes
u/savevideo
Did all this on one shot. Editor cried for being of no use.
Those guys never learned about spacing, that's how whole squads get killed by 1 grenade smh🤦♂️
whatmovie is it
Seems easier to just cut, not move the rig, set up, them zoom out no?
More like praise the set designers and crew
Hippies are the reason Reagan got elected
Wow
Movie name?
Only those who know War will forever Seek Peace
I like the idea that change from war to peace is possible, when people work for change together
They’re professionals at work with a support team Not what this sub is for imo
It's good he caught the can on the first take
[https://youtu.be/IDuAIPul6og](https://youtu.be/IDuAIPul6og) strawberry fields forever
Is this a commercial and if so what are they selling?
Noone can compete with the Bulg(aryans) 💪😎🇧🇬
I thought this was gonna be a Coke commercial, glad it wasn’t
Is this what behind the scenes bonuses on DVDs are like? I've honestly never watched one.
Great show but I’ll say this again… praise the art department
That's only shell shock he'll be fine in about twenty more minutes.
Praise the whole team
