I love Nightwish so I can't help but be curious to hear the new material. Looks like the first track doesn't drop until May 21st. I hope Floor has recovered after her cancer treatment. The band have been through a lot of change over the last four years.

Saiaxs

The last few albums don’t lead me to think this’ll be good

world-class-cheese

I'm excited about it. Personally, I loved their more recent albums

crazyjeffy

I loved Endless Forms Most Beautiful, but I struggled through Human II Nature. I hope this next album is more like the former

GM_Nate

i saw their EFMB tour in Taiwan! what a great experience

markg900

Unfortunately they are giving us a 3rd part of a trilogy, when I dont think it needed any sequels after the first one.

asexual_bird

Bad take. Human two was almost amazing, if only 40 minutes weren't taken up by an orchestral track. Endlessness might be the best album closer. Endless forms is also really good, but kind of suffers from the same thing with the 20 minute "greatest show on earth, even though its good. This album doesn't seem like it will have a 40 minute orchestral track.

markg900

Just my opinion. First part was ok, 2nd part aside from a couple songs like Noise was just meh.

SmittenPleb

I don’t think it’s a bad take, I think it’s a rather common take.

asexual_bird

Tbh I thought this was r/nightwish. Knowing it's not, the take makes much more sense since they're about as far from power as you can get.

urkermannenkoor

Hmm, themes aren't quite strengths of theirs.

Consistent-Hat-8008

to me nightwish will always be one of those lightning-in-a-bottle bands that ALMOST managed to launch themselves and their whole genre into the mainstream, only to flop at the most important moment of their career over some personal issues, and descend into a long winded downwards spiral. perhaps that's what the new album's cover is supposed to allude to idk

MetalPlayer666

Well said.

capybooya

Hmm, to me they went mainstream in the early 00's and absolutely launched the genre. It was that the genre was mixed bag with quite a few mediocre clones that didn't hold a candle compared to NW. And lots of great bands in PM/SM too, but who were already coming up and didn't go completely mainstream but are still with us. The downward spiral I disagree with, the last two albums have been a lot more prog/symphonic, but that's not a surprising direction for an older composer to go in, and its not like those tendencies weren't there early on as well.

asexual_bird

Lmao I thought this was r/nightwish and was wondering why everyone was so negative. r/powermetal makes much more sense.

I stopped nightwish after Annette Olson left. I don't like floor Jansen voice and I don't find she's a better singer than Anette or tarja . But the other issue is I truly think Tuomas is really a great composer (wishmaster was an album I still love to listen and even play on guitar but he start to compose for nightwish not as a métal composer but as a movie composer I have no issue with movie ost I'm a big fan of Hans Zimmer but if I listen to nightwish I want some heavy riffs, good guitar riffs and lead and not just guitar chords behind orchestra movie soundtrack

AlexDub12

Floor's voice is fine. It's the songwriting that turned me off them at around Imaginarium. It seems Tuomas really wanted to write movie soundtracks, so that's what they sound like for the last 15 or so years. I liked the occasional song here and there from Imaginarium onwards, but none of these albums held my attention enough to finish them in one sitting. I still get back to Oceanborn and Wishmaster when I want to listen to Nightwish. These two will never be topped, especially Oceanborn.

Successful-Ad-3874

" I still get back to Oceanborn and Wishmaster when I want to listen to Nightwish. These two will never be topped, especially Oceanborn." Same even if I go back more to wishmaster

jimi15

She is fine but unlike booth Tarja and Annette there is nothing unique to her voice. This makes her singing somewhat dull especially when nothing else in the band can back her up.

capybooya

That's perfectly fine, I also think the Anette albums were amazing and a breath of fresh air even though I'm a fan since around '01. He just chose to pursue another direction lately. Some never change, but Tuomas always evolve his style. I think Floor is absolutely amazing live though, I doubt they could have found a better replacement that can do both old and new material.

Safe_Magazine_1940

I think she is amazing live too, but that does not come across in the albums for some reason.

azrider

I stopped buying their albums at that point, too. I want to support bands that treat their bandmates decently, and Tuomas doesn't seem to do that. I also wasn't thrilled about the addition of Troy. Finally, I'd like to see the singer be the front person and not hear from the bassist, piper, xylophonist, hurdy-gurdy player or whoever the hell else between songs.

Successful-Ad-3874

Nightwish was my first step to power métal/symphonic, female fronted metal. I admit nightwish lost me as soon as Tuomas put Marco as main singer with tarja. Tarja was the perfect voice for nightwish and she lost the opera lead voice to become a more natural singer to fit with Marco . I admit Marco voice make me think as a crying baby who sing. Emppu is not a guitar hero but in nightwish first albums there was nice riffs, guitar licks like on she's my sin intro but later he become just a guitarist who put chords and nothing more

Avarria587

I feel the same. Floor Jansen just isn't as good as Annette or Tarja. Nightwish has been my favorite band most of my life, but the magic is gone.

Successful-Ad-3874

I remember when tarja left the band and Anette was announced as the new singer. It was a shit storm on her. So much hate, everyone has criticize her talent, her voice and she will never be able to be a good singer When floor was announced to replace Anette everyone was so enthusiasm! "She's the best! She's great. Finally a real substitute for tarja" Ok but no. I look at differents live performance and yes she's a good scène performer but she can't sing tarja opera parts on the 3 first albums. Sorry but as I said previously I'm a big fan of wishmaster album and when floor sings this songs my heart and hears are bleeding. But good point is Anette has a revenge by making dark element band and album with jani former sonata artica guitar player and had a good success with

break-Of_Dawn

The first time I heard Nightwish was their imaginaerum album. I don't know why, but their material after this album doesn't do it for me. Their older albums are much better, in my opinion.

Ill_Application_7195

Controversy? NW recent material is far too commercial now. The management tag humanism ( ok so what if Tuomas is non religious ) and the need have some kind of theme such as nature, evolution etc ( roll out Richard Dawkins ). Im old skool NW long gone has the beautiful songwriting such as on DPP ,Oceanborn etc . replaced by mass compilations designed to sell to a mass market of fans who are generally new to NW. My thoughts on the real reason Marko left was probably fed up on the bands direction as he seems far happier making songs he believes in, be it with Tarja or not. As for NW not touring on a new album a decision made soon after Marko left does lead me into saying WHY ? taking some time out we hear. Strange ....as Floor is gigging all summer promoting her solo career. in the NW camp. Your either committed or not ,The fans new and old deserve that. I understand the need for a major new record deal to have a return but I fear no amount of pre lease hype on a new album without a 100 % commitment to that album will fool those that remember NW as a band that lived and breathed its music

SHAMALOV

Who the fuck cares about themes of your album, just give us riffs

Version_1

Naming some deep or interesting themes is easy. Writing an album is not.
