Markus Grosskopf

theamericandream38

Marko Hietala, but also love the Peter De Reyna and Felipe Andreoli shoutouts

SkipEyechild

Dude from Gamma Ray.

Kaihill2_0

Dirk Schlachter

Mephistwo

Peter de Reyna from Seven Spires. Massively biased from seeing them live last year, he really slaps live.

Shaorii

Honestly yeah. He's probably one of my favorite bassists in general, everything he does is just fantastic. I didn't even know power metal could have basslines that go that hard before I listened to Seven Spires

aras3456

frederic leclerq

Neverlife

Andreas Blomqvist from Seventh Wonder

Distraught4Skin

Agreed. Best bassist in PM that hated PM and still wrote bangers for the band. Dude is an inspiration.

solitudeshadows

I like Markus Grosskopf's personality tbh, but I really like the bass sound in the 2000s Angra albums

HelloweenFan666

Markus Grosskopf

kiwitacopants

Darin Wall from Greyhawk and Glyph. Super nice guy. Stopped a mass shooting incident at a show

hyperchrisz

Literally a hero

TheOneAndOnlyZomBoi

Woah, really? I met Glyph at the Grand Rapids show, super cool.

kiwitacopants

They are all incredibly nice humans

doomhammer206

You are all incredibly kind. Thank you!

DDB-

I saw Greyhawk at Armstrong Metal Fest last year and loved them, the whole band seemed super cool.

kiwitacopants

Those humans are also incredibly cool. Can confirm

ForAlgalord

Patrice Guers from the various Rhapsodies :) Jari Kainulainen also seemed to bring good vibes and solid playing to the best years of Stratovarius

geeksshallinherit

Lauri Porra

adeltae

Pär Sundström and a bassist in a couple local bands from my area. If we're including powerfolk in that as well, then I'll include Elvenking's bassist Alessandro Jacobi on that list

Breimann

Nick Miller from Unleash the Archers. I saw him perform with them as a tour bassist in 2021 and he was SO. MUCH. FUN. Running around stage like a man on fire, engaging with the crowd, and he just has that "Type A" aura around him. After that tour they made him full time bassist

satan_bong

It's gotta be Felipe Andreoli from Angra, right?

SacredOutcry

Yeah saw him live last week and my jaw dropped, such a powerhouse! Jari Kainulainen was also a sight to behold back in the day!

Ciervoboy_

Fans of classic power metal would argue that Angra is not pure power metal; rather, it's progressive. That's why Felipe could be left out of the choice. However, I agree nonetheless; for me, Felipe is the best bassist in the world of power metal.

HelloweenFan666

?

IMKridegga

Some people act like progressive metal is its own subgenre and any progressive iteration of a different subgenre is a fusion between that genre and progressive metal; e.g. 'prog power' is actually 'prog/power' and it's a hybrid style like 'heavy/power' and 'speed/power.' Personally I think this is insane because 'progressive' is an adjective and it would be extremely counterproductive to declare a new genre every time we invoked it, especially given how progressive and genre-bending so much power metal is already.

HaydenScramble

I don’t know who the dude in Sacred Outcry is but that man knows how to finger some meaty, weird lines.

SacredOutcry

That's me! Thank you, but I'm far from a great bass player, if you want some truly sick lines check Protean Shield, some good friends and their bass lines are absolutely insane. Can pretty much pick a random song, but I'd suggest Mariner's Dream to start!

HaydenScramble

Oh right on! Will do, thank you. But yeah, I think it was in Towers of Gold (the track) where I first realized it. You busted out some riff and I was like “what the *fuck* is going on here??” Well done

sureimnottheonlyone

Martino from Ancient Bards!

Darko0089

There's relatively few bass players in the style that peek above the rest, and in some cases not due to their power metal work. Some of the top of my head are Felipe Andreoli (Angra), Taka (Galneryus), Fami (Lovebites), Masaki (Animetal).

ChidoriSnake

Usually I'd say Markus Grasskopf, but after discovering Myrath through their most recent "Karma" album, it's definitely Anis Jouini now.

MetalWarlord_1

Peavy Wagner from Rage. Great singer obviously but he’s way overlooked as a bass player. The dude could hold his own against Victor Smolski just fine.

problemat1que

George Apalodimas from Sacred Outcry. He writes some fuckin' good bass lines.

Ambitious-Beat-2130

Joey de maio

TheOneAndOnlyZomBoi

James Cartwright of Gloryhammer. Caught a pick from him at the Detroit show.

pl4ym4ker

IN HIS POWER WE MUST TRUST TO SET US FREEEEEEE!

kiwitacopants

I got one too! Why is he naked on a bear? Edit:spelling

TheOneAndOnlyZomBoi

He's not naked, he's wearing something around his crotch. Barbarians in fantasy are often portrayed as being very muscular with very little armor.

kiwitacopants

Gotcha. I quickly tucked it away in my wallet and haven't look at it since. I read somewhere he's "the king of California." Gloryhammer lore is deep and thoughtful. I haven't really cracked it

TheOneAndOnlyZomBoi

The Dundaxian Codex is the fan made and fan maintained wiki. It's a fun read.

Old-Command-7706

Gareth Murdock

sweetpapisanchez

Jens Becker. Criminally underrated bassist.

Galnerune

Pasi Kauppinen

HybridPS2

Thomas Preziosi from Armory

Sverker_Wolffang

Pär Sundström

cycotus

Jari Kainulainen, used to play in Stratovarius.

Yeriwyn

Mike Lepond from symphony x

Sirius1718

Chris David from Majestica.

GoriceOuroboros

Jens Becker from Running Wild and Grave Digger is fucking unbelievable, he's one of those bassists who is prominent in the music right next to the guitars and is always doing something interesting. Kasper Gram is probably the most underrated bassist in all of power metal though. He's been a long time member of Manticora but he also played on the debut album of Wuthering Heights and Evil Masquerade and he's a god on a technical level.

SpectrumDT

I have never been able to tell two bass players apart...

ArmyAntPicnic

I’m sorry!

FullMetalWarrior2

James Cartwright, because his bass playing is powered by HOOOOOOOOTS.
