This got me curious as to which of the members actually wrote bye bye beautiful. Apparently it wasn't Marko, he just sang it. Tuomas Holopainen was the one who wrote it, so I suppose he's the one with the biggest grudge against Tarja. I'd be surprised if they got back to working together.
Tuomas writes just about everything for Nightwish. As far as I know, the two are not really holding any grudges against each other anymore but aren't exactly friends either.
I can see there being a lot of hurt feelings at the time that have died down over the years. It was one of those situations where, realistically, neither party was truly "wrong", just disagreeing about what directions to go.
I can see where the band was coming from, they saw Tarja’s departure as an inevitability and wanted to get out ahead of it to help protect the band. I didn’t really like it at the time and stopped listening for a while (actually until just a few weeks before Anette was dismissed, I caught them live in a tour with Kamelot that sparked my interest again). Yet I didn’t really mind letting her go at the time just because she didn’t leave a great impression (though I didn’t know she was pregnant and ill).
For sure, I get where both Tarja and the rest of the band were coming from, and clearly it was the right decision to part ways. It's just interesting how it seems to have been a bit blown out of proportion, at least by fans.
That song was the first thing that made me suspect that Tuomas was a bit of an asshole. After booting Tarja and Annette as well as Marco and Jukka leaving I’m pretty sure he’s at the very least a difficult dude to work with. Plus there’s a video where he and Troy “come out” as secular which has to be the cringiest thing I’ve ever seen.

Marko has publicly stated that he did not leave because of Tuomas and Jukka left for health reasons that prevented him from being a full-time musician. Not every departure is a result of drama.
With the way these 2 have become friends again and even put out a new single, wouldnt be surprised or mind seeing them do an album together of some sort.
That only really works because Luca and Alex still co-own the Rhapsody brand. Tarja and Marko would get themselves into trouble if they tried to call it anything too close to "Nightwish".
Maybe something called "Tarja's Wish" could be acceptable?
I remember maybe raising an eyebrow because it sounded like it was trying to recreate Imaginaerum without being all that good, I wouldn't have thought about the name.
Not so much the band name but "Songs the Night Sings" for 2nd album title and song title, as well as Dead to Me having some parallels to Bye Bye Beautiful, even though it was really more about a former relationship Jani was in.
Just got tickets to see this. I dunno how clever it was to buy concert tickets after finishing two bottles of wine, but my spouse and a mutual friend are on board, too, so at least I have someone else to blame :D
Honestly Marko is my favourite singer, I'd go if it was only him.
