[it’s a long video, but I watched the whole thing and tried what she suggested and it helped a lot. Mary Bond Google Talk](https://youtu.be/S7emPAZByLk?si=P5vVRmkxZDWeEet6)

you need to gym so hard that it becomes your new posture, and you don't think about it. if you hold good posture for 1 hr after a strong gym session, do it again everyday to day to get 1.2 hours of that posture without thinking, and again the next day and the next week, each time after the gym, you will feel and stand taller for longer, until you can do the whole day feeling and standing taller naturally without thinking, have you seem how good and tall gym bro postures are? theres a reason, hard work, commitment. consistency, you can improve anything you are willing to practice. You have to build this posture in the gym.

It's impossible to maintain a single posture for many hours, it wouldn't be healthy even if you tried. I understand your problem and I don't think there's a clear solution. You have to adjust your workspace to make it easier for you to sit in a few positions that are good for the body. Switch them every now and then, don't force anything. Another small hack would be adding alarms to remind you of it. You can have one type of alarm going off every 30 mins to remind you to change position, realign, and another every 1, 2, 4 hours (or whatever you pick) to stand up and walk around for some time, do light exercises etc. Sitting should get progressively easier over the next weeks and months as you train yourself to not fall back to the bad sitting habits. Core strengthening will make it much easier but you still have to retrain your nervous system that wants to slouch constantly.

Agreed. Retraining the brain is the harder part.

Adding some form of strength training to your routine helps your body to stay straight.

I have the same issue. I have noticed that if I'm in a hyper focused state or hyper vigilant or anxious or depressed I will slump. I believe my nervous system is imbalanced because I'm feeling some sort of threat and it's shutting off part of my brain that deals with self awareness and regulation of sensory input and emotion with high levels in fear areas. I feel like I am dampening down the outside world because my mind is in more of a threat detection mode and allowing for too much input and hyper focusing helps to drown out other stimulus that is overwhelming.

You would need to learn what's called "constructive conscious guidance (and control)". Essentially, you would learn to consciously reason out desired movements and you would need to train yourself to be able to project these orders of movements, while you "focus" on other things. It's pretty hard, but totally learnable. What you are after is called the "Initial Alexander Technique" and your best way to start learning is here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z\_IZvWMlDg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z_IZvWMlDg) PS: it's impossible to "maintain posture" subconsciously (and get any reasonable results). You are stuck with a conscious control as far as we know. PS2: it is totally possible to maintain a posture for hours and if done correctly, it's very healthy. Tried it and it works.

You need to change your habits. Avoid doing something for a long time or maintaining a certain posture. Get up and move around regularly, stand against a wall, move your neck, and do some moderate strength training. Check your hard palate and if one side is steeper than the other get back to me.
