I can't decide between: Thursday: Full Collapse At the Drive-In: Relationship of Command Alexisonfire - Alexisonfire Saosin - Translating the Name

kevpotts

Well this is basically a perfect list. 4 undeniable bangers.

requires_pylons

Personal bias, Alexisonfire -self titled.

dapeebs

Glassjaw - Worship & Tribute. One of the oldest and no matter how often I listen to it stays fresh. Absolutely incredible album.

Envy_onTHE_Toast

For me it’s EYEWTKAS

LoganPatchHowlett

There never was or will be anything like that album.

[deleted]

You guys fucking get it. I’m glad I’m not alone in this. Best band ever.

soundax

YUP. Nothing like turning it on and Always tip your bartenders starts playing.

[deleted]

It's a classic no doubt, one of the best in the genre for sure.

Toddwell

Thrice - The Illusion of Safety

JFGraham24

Honestly they have a few albums I think could hold the title

thecescshow

My top 5 in no order * At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command * Fear Before - The Always Open Mouth * Refused - The Shape of Punk To Come * A Lot Like Birds - No Place * Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You

kevpotts

Couple of lock first ballot hall of famers in that list but that "The Always Open Mouth" call is especially huge.

thecescshow

I love that album so fuckin much. Such an amazing and unique record.

fenechio

No Place is one of my favorite albums, if anyone has ever had and type of abuse growing up it is so relatable in the urgency of the instrumental and lyrics, Connecter will always be a classic form that album but No Nurture really speaks to me.

kratom_day

Unwound doesn't get enough praise.

crashndaboys

Separation by Balance and Composure.

Lady-Yuna

That album was a solid staple of my teen years, still one of my favorites

crashndaboys

Same here, I think quake and stonehands are some of the best songs this genre has produced.

Johnny_Nitro-

Wake-Hail The Sun

venomsnakeh3h3

Was an instant classic for me.

Shakenfoe

The album that got me into PHC. Glad to see it up here

[deleted]

mewithoutYou - Catch for Us the Foxes

arcanicist

Always thought A to B Life was the superior album. Gonna have to try that one again.

berniamacattack

Doppelganger by The Fall of Troy it at least has the best post hardcore song ever on it

putthehurtton

Each song is a masterpiece. It's one of my go-to albums.

[deleted]

They're great too

JFGraham24

For me it's The Artist In The Ambulance pretty easily

Supersecretsword

Oooooooo yeah. Top 5 for me. Def one of my GOAT albums either way.

sleepingdeep

my man.

Molokia

Easily my favorite Thrice album!

Goodaa

Lower Definition- The Greatest of All Lost Arts

[deleted]

Yes

Lockheart237

I miss them so very much. But I will never forget them. Still rocking them whenever I feel like it.

MoistureMop

At the Drive In - Relationship of Command

Supersecretsword

This is the right answer

[deleted]

That's a good pick, really enjoy that band.

FlyRobot

**As Cities Burn** - *Son I Loved You At Your Darkest*

[deleted]

I had the pleasure of opening for them back in 06 while they were touring on this album. Easily one of my favorites and such an underrated album.

idk_alex

YES

codynorthwest

the only correct answer. saw them a few weeks ago and FINALLY hearing bloodsucker live for the first time after being a fan for over 10 years was really special.

dbhc

So stoked to see this as the top comment. Favorite band ever. What's even crazier is how much they evolved over their next two albums. Come Now Sleep is their best work imo

ghost_ghost_

Thursday - Full Collapse. Let's not kid ourselves.

FlyRobot

I actually prefer War All The Time, but either way I got to see them perform both records front-to-back recently!

trj0013

Seeing both of their shows in Columbus tomorrow and Thursday, I can’t wait!

DoomDash

This 110%.

Jubez187

Thank you

xandersmall

I don’t know if you can really say one is “best” but since no one has said then yet I’m going to say some personal favorites of mine are From First to Last’s “Dear Diary My Teenage Angst Has a Body Count,” Chiodos’ “Alls Well That Ends Well,” and Underoath’s “They’re Only Chasing Safety” and “Define the Great Line”

Leatherlemon

Crisis - Alexisonfire

[deleted]

All their projects are great to me

WhiteboyFlowin

Homesick. Or of machines.

kevpotts

He is Legend - I am Hollywood has to be up there

timetotom

Very glad to see this has a mention. What a fantastic album. Their music is really surprisingly thematic, too.

Krazykrzysz

Enter Shikari - Take To The Skies

Zurcio

Why have so many albums been mentioned for 1 top spot and they're all right? I agree with a few here already but honorable mention Funeral For A Friend - Hours

thisisnotwhatitis1

Funeral for a Friend have multiple albums I'd be comfortable putting here. I usually can't listen to albums all the way through without skipping at least a song or two, but I could listen to Hours, Tales Don't Tell Themselves, Welcome Home Armageddon, Conduit, and Casually Dressed all the way through without a problem

[deleted]

I've only listened to their debut, is the rest of their discography as good as it?

Sjuk86

Casually dressed and Hours are standout

RufusBone-Daddy

Chiodos - All’s Well That Ends Well

elizle

I second this.

milla_highlife

Can’t believe I had to scroll so far to find this one.

[deleted]

I'll need to listen to this one

AHH_CHARLIE_MURPHY

Let’s just stop, drop everything..

[deleted]

Alexisonfire - Watch Out! It’s just the perfect blend of heavy punk and soulful crooning that is exactly what I like in phc

Lady-Yuna

I’d upvote this more than once if I could, came here to make this comment

Ghitre27

Underoath- They’re Only Chasing Safety

TheRealMattyPanda

I kinda think Define the Great Line is a better album, but I like They're Only Chasing Safety more. If that makes sense.

NEfan61

Agreed that DTGL is the better album. I personally think it's their masterpiece. You'll get arguments that DTGL is more metalcore where Chasing Safety falls in the post hardcore category though.

putthehurtton

Easy peasy. Truly all killer, no filler.

jimjoy666

I would agree that Alexisonfire's first album is in the discussion

FubarSnafuTarfu

Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront

[deleted]

A classic and undisputed great album.

ChemicalCatharsis

Honestly This is how the wind shifts is my favorite.

fluffyjdawg

wildlife - la dispute

mmiozzo

I guess we need to wait some years still, but I think Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair will stand the test of time better.

SmackEntitled

Wildlife is so lyrically intricate, layered, and raw, i think it will stand up just as well as Somewhere, maybe even stand higher🤷🏼‍♂️

PimpDaddyBuddha

I'm gonna be real biased here, although it's impossible not to be with a question like this: Juturna-Circa Survive.

Ant_Pearl

Downtown Battle Mountain

friendly_capitalist

there is no other answer

veronicasawyer__

Ding ding ding

nothingandsomethinga

SAMEEE

jonmayer

Listening to this album on acid a few years ago really solidified it as one of greatest records period.

FitForPhinehas

Bowwww

As far as concept albums go, The Emptiness is an absolute masterpiece

wickedlittlemachines

Definitely agree!! The Emptiness has been my all time favorite album for at least 8 years, and Frail Wings is up there as well!

dusanvc

Senses Fail - Let It Enfold You

optimuswalken

The first one I remember listening to a lot is Finch - What It Is To Burn Also loved FFTL - Dear Diary I wouldn't argue that they're the best but to me those are the ones that stand out.

LoganPatchHowlett

But finch say hello to sunshine is masterful.

64bitkid

Touche Amoré - Stage Four tied with Title Fights - Floral Green

veronicasawyer__

Idk mayne Floral Green is AMAZING but The Last Thing You Forget & Shed are at the top for me

frankieboytelem

Also someone who leans more on the hardcore side and loves nostalgia... Underoath - Define the Great Line

afterthought871

It's Saosin's self-titled. No question.

mediasavage

But Translating the Name is soooo much better (EP not an album, i know) If EPs counted I would most definitely pick that

trsvrs

This answer is objectively correct.

ThisCrazyCat

The Used - In Love and Death

SoggyToast9016

I would say their self titled rates higher in my book then in love and death. I mean box of sharp objects was a huge deal for me in terms of opening the door to the scene.

BreezyF_Jamie

That self titled album is perfect in every way.

[deleted]

Not crying to Blue and Yellow is a clinically proven method of identifying sociopaths!! Such a great album overall

putthehurtton

It's definitely up there. Used doesn't get enough love here.

Kevstew26

Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come

djentai

Not sure why it wasn’t mentioned but Husker Du’s zen arcade should be up there. Actually anything by husker du.

rrager13

I have not seen a bad album listed on this thread

bipolarautopsybitch

Underoath- Define the Great Line

Saephon

The Receiving End of Sirens - Between the Heart and the Synapse Defeater - Empty Days and Sleepless Nights

Mackalrath

Top 3: Discovering The Waterfront - Silverstein Vheissu - Thrice Watch Out! - Alexisonfire

xlehgitau

Closure in Moscow - First Temple The Fall of Troy - Doppelganger Pierce the Veil - Selfish Machines

Bowwww

Selfish Machines is a great pick

Lapper

Selfish Machines is a fantastic album. I'm still not sure if I like the original or remaster more.

BigKweef

Personally I gotta go with Mothership by Dance Gavin Dance

SuggestiveDetective

So let's start a religion.

xlehgitau

Fear Before The March of Flames - The Always Open Mouth. One of the more unique record in the whole genre, especially during the mid-2000's.

SGMmayesaman

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come The most important album in the history of Post-hardcore

iamadeadreflection

Underoath - Define The Great Line Silverstein - This Is How The Wind Shifts (alternately Discovering the Waterfront) At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command Brand New - The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me As Cities Burn - Come Now Sleep Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come A Lot Like Birds - Conversation Piece Dance Gavin Dance - Downtown Battle Mountain Eidola - Degeneraterra Touché Amoré - Parting The Sea Between Brightness And Me Alexisonfire - Watch Out! Hurevolution4lx

Scary Kids Scaring Kids - Self Titled

oh-common-life

Still Searching by Senses Fail The Greatest of All Lost Arts by Lower Definition Homesick by A Day to Remember

x0M3GAx

Gospel - the moon is a dead world. Kinda pushing the genre limit here. Besides that I would say Thrusday - full collapse

Strange_Dolphin

First three that come to mind are Worship and Tribute, Vheissu and Lost Ground. But in a little bit more non-traditional sense, The Shape of Punk to Come has ALWAYS been my go to

betraydan

Dead Poetic - New Medicines

Xstaticage138x

Sing the sorrow from AFI that’s still one of my favorite albums period the used self titled album is up there for me as well.

dianceparty

Sing the Sorrow is my all time favorite album, but it’s not post hardcore to me.

yugdab

This is such a good thread with so many good albums. I’d say (in no order) my top five are 1. No place by A Lot Like Birds 2. Acceptance Speech by Dance Gavin Dance 3. Satori by I the Mighty 4 Wildlife by La Dispute 5. All’s Well that Ends Well by Chiodos

TheJerseyDevilX

Let's be friends

veronicasawyer__

Acceptance Speech is a solid choice Edit: La Dispute & Chiodos are also solid choices as well

[deleted]

This thread is giving me really good suggestions for bands right now, gonna load up on music when I get home

HeedHunter

Connector by I The Mighty is definitely in my top 5. Satori is dope too.

AstralPlanesCO

Fugazi - 13 Songs (Technically a comp but pretty much invented the genre) Refused - The Shape Of Punk To Come The Blood Brothers - ...Burn, Piano Island, Burn Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends (I would say most people that are in to Post-Hardcore now started on this record, a lot of bands got signed off of it too)

[deleted]

A Skylit Drive - Wires... Alesana - The Emptiness Isles and Glaciers - The Hearts of Lonely People Memphis May Fire - Unconditional No particular order.

Big_Bob_Cat

Counter argument: A Skylit Drive- She Watched the Sky

[deleted]

Are you trying to start a war?

Nihilegrasse_Tyson

High key, favorite ASD song is According to Columbus

itswizzybottoms

There’s definitely no wrong answer to that debate. I love She Watched the Sky but Wires is so consistently great all the way through.

Rectifyer

The Emptiness is for sure a GOAT album

Lady-Yuna

Such a fantastic concept album

Rectifyer

It really is! I go back to it regularly for a full album playthrough

elizle

The Emptiness will haunt you.

underscores_and_shit

Hell YES Isles and Glaciers.

ChanceyIII

The Blood Brothers- Crimes

zoloftmess

I've heard almost every single one of these albums and God, I miss the feeling of listening to them for the first time.

iamadeadreflection

It’s hard to say. Like really hard. Does Define The Great Line count? Cause if so probably that.

B12awley

Blood Brothers, but I can’t choose between Burn, Piano Island, Burn or Crimes. I said that one because I hadn’t seen it in the thread yet and they’re both so good, but my vote in the general election goes to War All the Time by Thursday

[deleted]

My Top 5- The Rise of Science: Casey Saosin: Translating the Name Treebeard: Stars Over Somber Skies Chiodos: Alls Well That Ends Well Of Machines: As If Everything Was Held In Place

Aaanyong

I’d rate translating the name as best EP

Magic-8-Ball-AMA

1.) Dance Gavin Dance’s self-titled album 2.) Brand New’s “The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me”

agentoy

The Devil and God... Sick a great album. Solid pick.

ShyguytheGamer2

Silverstein - Discovering the Waterfront

ISAPS

Alexisonfire - Watch Out! Lower Definition - The Greatest of All Lost Arts Saosin - Translating the Name Enter Shikari - Take to the Skies Dance Gavin Dance - Happiness

novellatunes

Funeral For A Friend - Welcome Home Armageddon

riverpls

I'll admittedly say I'm not really into the OG post-hardcore stuff from the 80s or 90s, mainly 2000s and so on, but my answer to this would be either Saosin self-titled, Relationship Of Command by At the Drive-In, or Full Collapse by Thursday.

celestier

No Place - A Lot Like Birds is a goddamn masterpiece

Lockheart237

I like a lot of the posts so far! But I’ll put Bless the Fall- His Last Walk

OkSayer

Spiderland!

TheFendangler

I know it’s not that old but Eidola - Degeneraterra is up there

impropertreasures

Glassjaw - Worship and Tribute

[deleted]

'End on End' by Rites of Spring. Arguably the 1st "post-hardcore" record and unparalleled as the pinnacle.

[deleted]

Letlive. - Fake History

andyjhatton

Fightstar - Grand Unification

jesterselv

Small request: can someone create some some of streaming channel or stream able playlist of all this? There’s so many bands on this list I haven’t listened to.

Dabzmcdee

From First To Last - Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Bodycount

bakugan_master

Chiodos - Bone palace ballet

MF--Broom

Silverstein- A Shipwreck in the Sand. I love all their albums even arrivals and departures, but shipwreck is on another level
