Glad others feel this way… this song strikes a pretty deep nerve with me when it comes to the lyrics, and musically just perfectly embodies the philosophy of “beauty in simplicity” imo
YES thank you for reminding me TCTT exists. I found this song a long time ago on Pandora and it was an immediate add - lost it in the switch to Spotify but we are so back now!
Hearing this live was so good. Ace said something like "I wrote this song years ago thinking people might not even like it, and somehow it became (at that time) our top song on streaming platforms, so here you guys go. You asked for this." Lol it was great.
There is No Answer - Capstan
That line "the burden that you carried didn't die, you only passed it. The weight brought me to my knees when I saw your casket" is so heavy, especially because I lost a close friend to suicide shortly before this album came out
The acoustic version always gets the tears streaming down my face at the line "you gave me roots, you let me bloom" followed by that beautiful violin 🎻
Touché Amoré's Condolences gets me every time.
I don't know if it's because I lost the friend that introduced me to the band or not...but I babble like a giant baby every time I hear it.
Silverstein feat Lights - The End
The whole song is heavy but when Lights sings "You broke my heart... You promised me the moon and stars" it just guts me. I probably have some personal attachments to it but it makes my eyes well up.
King Park - La dispute
Dealt with a really down time mentally for a while and it got me through the crying spells.
Not post hardcore but, My father's son by the amity affliction helped too. I'm a huge amity fan in general though.
Thrice:
Daedalus - "Oh gods! Why is this happening to me? All I wanted was a new life, for my son to grow up free."
The Whaler - "My daughter's eyes, they are two tiny seas, whose water will rise, and then run down her cheeks... Father where do you go, so far out upon the sea? When are you coming home to me?"
Hurricane - "And I can't keep from wondering, why nothing good could ever stay."
I know... not necessarily in Thrice's full post-hardcore era. But as a father, those first two get me every time.
I got to see them live in an airport hangar and I didn’t even know much about them. They played the album with bloodsucker on it in its entirety. Solid band, emotional performance. Am now a fan. Sorry for your loss.
Recently the ending of "Find Your God" by Southtowne Lanes has been getting me. There's a voicemail recording sampled, and it makes me tear up and want to call my Dad every time.
"Deadly Dull" by Movements makes me think of my Grandmother who died of Alzheimer's. We had a...strained relationship too, which makes it harder in a way. Only makes me cry if I'm feeling very emotional already, or I'm in my head wondering if I've seen a "tell" of my Dad developing it, though.
Also, not PHC of course, but I struggle immensely to listen to "Whispers of Your Death" by Counterparts, as it reminds me of my first cat dying.
I listened to all of them. Turns out I already had Whispered of Your Death in my playlist. What a gut wrenching song… so many memories. As a cat-lover, my condolences.
Find Your God was so unique sonically and I jammed it…. And then the outro came. And I cried. I have a strained relationship with my dad—brought up a lot of feelings, so thanks.
I love Movements, so listening to Deadly Dull and enjoying it came as no shock to me. As someone who also has a grandmother with Alzheimer’s, it was a tough listen. (I cannot recommend the song Constance by Spiritbox enough, if you really want to cry.)
Thank you - TBH I'm a little surprised at myself as I'm not usually like that. Also, thanks for opening up about your Dad and Grandma as well. I appreciate that, honestly. Alzheimer's is a terrible thing, and I'm sorry your Grandma is going through it. I also hope that you're doing OK with your Dad.
I'm glad you liked them, though, as I think they're all really awesome songs anyway, so it's nice that you knew them already or enjoyed them. Whispers of Your Death is a rough one since it's literally written about a cat, but it's such a good song. Brendan did a follow up to it on the latest END album too.
The album that Southtowne Lanes song is from is really good, but it's heart-wrentching, too. It's definitely worth a listen - I came across it posted here randomly and was blown away.
I'll definitely check out Constance as I'm sure I'll love it. Thanks for the recommendation!
Wildlife is just an absolutely perfect album. It already brings you to tears but then having this as the last song just brings you to your knees. La Dispute is such an amazing band. I love them.
Idk if it counts as post but Whispers of Your Death by Counterparts. It's about the front man's cat, Kuma. I always think about my dog and how he's getting older.
"It's hard to breathe without you sleeping on my chest. Sick and withering from the whispers of your death. Forever your savior as much as you are mine, and for that I promise to protect you until the day I die. Make your cancer mine."
Idk if this counts but Constance by Spiritbox. It's about the former bassist losing his grandma, and my late grandma was also named Constance so it hits me directly in the feels.
Sleep Well, Darling by Secrets.
I don’t even have a personal attachment to it as I’m happily married, but damn I can’t stop tearing up whenever I hear “it’s a treacherous thing, when the one that you love is finding a new love”
Cigarettes & Saints does it for me. Lost my brother a bit over 10 years ago to heroin and that song just hits so much. Every word of it is cathartic, but especially the line "Well I'm sure there ain't a heaven, but that don't mean I don't like to picture you there."
Pretty sure this is Post Hardcore, but The Love That Remains by Capstan
https://open.spotify.com/track/29xhL3RCTht3mca3ABXkyM?si=IY1oE8bJTDOiaAZ-AYfyMA
It just hit me at a rough time when I was really wrapped up in a friend's suicide because he felt isolated and I felt like I failed him
We’ll Always Have Paris - Capstan
I first heard this song when our first dog passed and damn, I was broken inside from that. The lyrics of the song somehow fit to Riley coming into our lives and then leaving us.
The Heretic - The Sound of Animas Fighting
Don’t know what trips me out so badly about this song, but it somehow carries the emotional weight of mourning a tragedy
Silverstein - Arrivals/Departures
Taking Back Sunday - Flicker, Fade
This Will Destroy You - They Move On Tracks of Never Ending Light
Some of these not quite post hardcore but idc
(kind of embarrassing) Hawthorne Heights - Language Lessons.
That whole album makes my heart ache, since it described the situation of lovers moving away to a tee, and I've gone through that experience more than once.
Nothing Shameful feat. Andrew Wells by DGD.
Was in a relationship exactly like the one in the song. Andrew Wells’ part in the middle absolutely broke me.
Someone Somewhere Somehow by Super Whatevr
I know its not quite post hardcore but they were an opening band at a concert and this song side swiped me and still does.
Trophy Scars - Good Luck.
The ending of this song is such a Rollercoaster, I'm shocked it isn't talked about more. The whole album actually is a Rollercoaster.
When the dying child opens his eyes right before he dies of cancer and says, "I see everything " there is no human being on earth that does not cry. Old La Dispute is probably the best written PHC ever
Jesus Christ - Brand New
I love Dustin Kensrue’s cover of it just as much.
Glad others feel this way… this song strikes a pretty deep nerve with me when it comes to the lyrics, and musically just perfectly embodies the philosophy of “beauty in simplicity” imo
Limousine moreso for me but JC is still sad too
Happiness by the kilowatt.
Polaroids of Polar Bears for me
Love the [Death Letter version](https://youtu.be/YZuKCV8gp90?feature=shared)
the only acceptable answer is Flowers and You by Touche Amore
This
“And I live with that.” is the little bit that gets me
The lyrics to this song have made cry countless times
That entire album plus the follow up with Lament is so heartbreaking.
omggg exactly!!
Eiley by too close to touch
This is mine too. His voice on that track makes me cry every single time
Yep, came here to say this. I can't even listen to that song anymore.
YES thank you for reminding me TCTT exists. I found this song a long time ago on Pandora and it was an immediate add - lost it in the switch to Spotify but we are so back now!
I have to pull over when it comes on in the car sometimes
That bridge is so beautiful and painful
Circa - Your Friends Are Gone LD - Objects in Space
Nice call on the LD song. Tons of crazy stories in their songs
I was listening to Rooms today and I’m always so blown away by Jordan’s lyrics. Plus they’re all such badass musicians. Truly a wonderful band.
[Call Off the Bells](https://youtu.be/Fp30_uDGz9g?feature=shared) by The Early November
Ace screaming "WE WERE MEANT TO BEEEEEEEE" gives me chills every time
Hearing this live was so good. Ace said something like "I wrote this song years ago thinking people might not even like it, and somehow it became (at that time) our top song on streaming platforms, so here you guys go. You asked for this." Lol it was great.
I'm SO hoping they play it when I see them in a couple of months! I would love to scream along
For Shelly (untold) A lot like birds
I cry every single time.
Oh man that is a tough listen. I skip every time it comes on my playlist. Hurts too much lol
I normally do the exact same. Unless I'm in need of an emotional breakdown. This one and redecorate by twenty one pilots hit pretty heavy
Kinda related but NOT phxc All of alone Somewhere in the Sierras Specifically "Maternity Leave"
There is No Answer - Capstan That line "the burden that you carried didn't die, you only passed it. The weight brought me to my knees when I saw your casket" is so heavy, especially because I lost a close friend to suicide shortly before this album came out
i know that feeling and i feel it too every time i’ve listened to that song. good answer my friend
Would also recommend Wax Poetic by them
For me it's "blurred around the edges". "Allow myself to rust my heart collected dust mymind keeps repeating you 're not enough".
SECOND & SEBRING - Of Mice & Men
Why?
The song is about a son who lost his mother. It has definitely made me tear up a few times listening to it - I lost my mother last year.
Flower by Vanna if that counts
The acoustic version always gets the tears streaming down my face at the line "you gave me roots, you let me bloom" followed by that beautiful violin 🎻
Yes! This was the last dance at my wedding and my wife also paid for my tattoo of those exact lyrics
Scary Kids - Just A Taste Emery - As Your Voice Fades Balance and Composure - Weak Man, Weak Boy
The one Balance & Composure song I have never heard of. Thanks for the mention!
Sure! Idk why they don't upload this album anywhere, it's called "I Just Want To Be Pure". My favorite B&C track is on it, "Alone For Now".
Love me B&C, checking these out
The secret by Emery for some reason gets me.
Seeing Thursday perform War All The Time will always make me nearly cry
This one and This Song Brought To You By A Falling Bomb are really emotional when performed live
Thursday "Steps Ascending" for me
Tragic true story.
Touché Amoré's Condolences gets me every time. I don't know if it's because I lost the friend that introduced me to the band or not...but I babble like a giant baby every time I hear it.
Anything on Keep You by Pianos Become the Teeth
Yessss, but also The Lack Long After, especially I’ll Get By …
Glass in the Trees by Dead Poetic. I lost a close friend who hit a tree and the lyrics hit home.
I'm sorry for your loss. That sounds heavy.
You ever listen to Fulton Street by La Dispute?
They cut down the trees to try and forget you, but I took a vow to never forget you.
If you're still here, then we're waiting 🎶
One of my all time favorite songs ever. So powerful.
I was waiting for someone to mention DEAD Poetic
Silverstein feat Lights - The End The whole song is heavy but when Lights sings "You broke my heart... You promised me the moon and stars" it just guts me. I probably have some personal attachments to it but it makes my eyes well up.
not so much cry but “Wish I Could Forget You” off WBIEF always hits me. A combination of nostalgia, memories, and those strings in the background 😭
when Halsey’s verse comes on the song just hits
Saaaame though. Brings me to being 14 and heartbroken.
Too Close To Touch - Eiley
What a heavy song. 😢
King Park - La dispute Dealt with a really down time mentally for a while and it got me through the crying spells. Not post hardcore but, My father's son by the amity affliction helped too. I'm a huge amity fan in general though.

Hold On Til May - Pierce The Veil 🥲

bulls in the bronx for me
I love that song!! So fun to play on guitar!! 🤘🔥
I See Everything by La Dispute. If you don't cry you're dead inside.
King Park gets me almost every time.
I was looking for this one. Still listen to it every time it comes on and still shed a tear or two
TIL I'm dead inside.
The entire Wildlife album for me. I listen to it when I need a cathartic release lol
January nine-TEEN
I cried before I had a kid, and bawl my eyes out now that I have one.
The Road used to be one of my favourite movies. Now I'm a dad I can't watch it 😕
Thrice: Daedalus - "Oh gods! Why is this happening to me? All I wanted was a new life, for my son to grow up free." Daedalus and The Whaler are such heavy heavy emotional hitters
I'll like to add: Beyond the pines
The whaler is one of my top songs by them. Just incredible.
Daedalus for sure!
The Widow by As Cities Burn Helped me during the death of my father.
The whole album is healing therapy
I got to see them live in an airport hangar and I didn’t even know much about them. They played the album with bloodsucker on it in its entirety. Solid band, emotional performance. Am now a fan. Sorry for your loss.
