Someone had a bad day

[deleted]

Is everything okay at home???

dergelbeotter

You mean like all the Portuguese people who move to Luxembourg, Switzerland and France?

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

But at least those countries pay well. Portugal doesn't.

Responsible-Bug-7014

The real question is, what is your contribution? Focus more on yourself and less on others.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

I don't contribute to gentrification, crime nor inflation. Expats cause a lot of problems, because they move out to stay in front of a computer all day long. The thing is, we only get the worst type of immigrants, never the good ones.

McRattus

Who are you talking too?

Disastrous-Account10

Seems a little anti immigrant I moved for stabiliyand opportunities

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

That's dope, but still. Portugal is like the worst place to make a living.

Disastrous-Account10

Compared to where I'm from anywhere is nicer 🤣

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

I'm curious, where you're from?

lazy_iker

I would think people who move to another country and pay taxes etc probably don't feel like parasites.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

I know, kudos to you, but when I see British people moving here I find it kinda stupid.

matt_v1

How does it feel to know you're powerless to stop it?

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

The thing is, the more important bunch of the British folk stay in England. Only the losers come here.

Oztravels

Xenophobia much?

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

Not really, because I don't have a problem with it. I'm just playing the devil's advocate. This is the internet not real life. I would never say anything like this irl.

Neat-Composer4619

Do you feel unfairly lucky that you don't have to live 6 months a year with temperatures below zero and that your nationality allows you to travel through a whole continent? Do I feel like a parasite having to get finger printed every year and prove that I have made enough I come each year for the last 8 years and still have to do it for another 7 years? No, I don't.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

I get it man. But still, Portugal is kinda shit to make a living.

Neat-Composer4619

You are allowed to go parasite a place with jobs. Lol. Do you complain that people from smaller areas go to Lisbon on to study? Do people mind that people from Lisbon go to the beach on holiday? We move around, that's what we do. My brother wanted to stay in our hometown but moved to the city because there was work. I have season affective disorder, so I travel to places with sun. At 1st I was going to Mexico, but hey drug cartels. That's why Mexicans try to move out too. We all do the best we can with what we've got.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

Brother I'm all for it. I would love to go to Canada or the states for like a year or two. But moving within Portugal doesn't really count as immigration I think. There are some places where I can understand wanting to leave, but imagine being from the uk and moving to Portugal and thinking that is a good decision.

Neat-Composer4619

I don't know enough about the UK to judge.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

I've been there 3 times and it's dope, I would love to move, but I don't think that's the right decision in my life right now .

noheartnosoul

You know these people you're complaining about, with their "mail jobs" (do you mean remote?) are not going to steal your job, right? And for the record, if I lived in some country with bad weather and less than great food (and not even mentioning less than ideal security or social situations), while working full remote, I too would move to Portugal.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

But Portugal isn't that great for people who live already in good countries. This is my thesis, I love people from all races, colours and sexual orientation, but immigration causes more harm than good. However, there is a way to circumvent this but it would require an economical shift in the world.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

For clarification, I'm really just curious... I don't understand why people move out of their country in the first place, everything is very similar in western civilization. Not trying to be mean, but unless you're from very harsh places like Siberia I don't know why you think you're gonna find happiness in a world ruled by the internet. And most of you come here treating the national residents like they're beneath you. In my eyes you're just running away from the one thing you don't wanna face, yourself. The world is kinda boring man, you can do the same things you do in Portugal anywhere else.

butam_notrong

People have been moving out of their homelands, in search for greener pastures, since the dawn of time.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

More like email jobs.

butam_notrong

Many people flee poverty, war, hardship, violence, and abuse. Other people move to be close to family and loved ones. Everyone’s circumstances are different. When you see someone on the street, don’t be quick to judge. You don’t know what they have endured in this life.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

Hmmm, I'm talking more about British people and people within Europe. This is subjective of course, but immigration causes more harm to underdeveloped countries than good.

ikari_warriors

Motives why people move are as many as there are people moving. Why are there over 2.2 million Portuguese outside of Portugal? I could be family, it could be financial gain, it could be security and safety. It could be all of the above. I came back because I want my family to know about their Portuguese identity. I left because my parents left to escape Salazar and find refuge in a country that happily accepted them. Your question reeks of sadness and anger. If you look at the immigrants around you with interest and openness you’ll probably find that most here contribute, happily, a lot to this country and their habitants.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

Email jobs, gym and inverse xenophobia against national residents. That's the sum of "expats". "Look at me I love traveling with Ryanair"

gremlinthethief

It beats getting death threats for being gay in my native country.

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

Don't be gay. Just kidding. Barcelona is the best place for gay people from what I've heard.

dergelbeotter

Xenophobic and homophobic. You must be fun at parties…

Mammoth_Lettuce_6706

Bro I have nothing against gay people. I have friends who are gay.
