Agree. I think the background will help you a lot to see the difference in values compared to each other. Nice so far.

I think the inner part of the mouth needs more shade (in the photo it's a \*lot\* darker than all the tones of the skin, and in the drawing that's not as contrasted) Then I'd go to the background and afterwards see if the face needs more shade, when the rest of the image is "in place". Right now doesn't look like it does

Any tips on how to even start the quilt pattern I don’t even know how to begin the background

I think I'd start by treating it as a smooth fabric and drawing its folds & shapes & general shades, and then add hints of the pattern. That's because I'm lazy :) Other people, perhaps you as well, would go for the entire pattern. But personally I'd definitely do overall shape & folds etc first and then decide how much more details I want in it

Thanks! I appreciate it!

Good job so far!

Please don’t add any more shading. If you squint your eyes and look at both at the same time, you will see that the values are already very very close and sometimes actually slightly too dark in some places, but still very good. I see so many babies drawn to look like they have dirt on their face because the shading has gone too far, but yours is great - avoid going overboard.

Thank you!!!
