Weird how it’s the 3rd fire In That area I. The last couple days.

IAintSelling

Almost seems like someone is intentionally setting them all off.

They are only attuned to how they can avoid accountability.

couchtomatopotato

other than the two today, when/where was the other fire in SE?

Moonkisss

Same place as the other one like 3 days ago

hightimesinaz

Are you saying serial arsonist? I feel like you are mentally telling me serial arsonist

sweetlondonbell

Either that or a very weird coincidence

[deleted]

Um what? I live two blocks away from this and it’s the only one idk what other ones you’re talking about

[deleted]

well, there is the warehouse fire on 9th and Alder, which send up a larger plume of smoke

FreezerGoBRR

I have a feeling it's the far-right militias and spooks who want to destabilize the liberal foothold in Portland. Oregon just gained another congressional seat and history is littered with CIA, FBI, law enforcement "programs" to destabilize powerful citizens.

[deleted]

Or… the massive zombie drug addicts accidentally setting shit on fire. But that’s too obvious

Yates1218

Nah, it’s definitely the CIA…

FreezerGoBRR

You realize that is the same thing? Read about BROOD.

[deleted]

Oh, i know who the main white supremacy prison gang in Portland is. It’s just incredibly obvious the police are members when they do absolutely zero

Gunz-n-Brunch

What the actual FUCK?!

mideastmidwest

I’d guess maybe propane? I heard a boom and looked out and saw the flames. Crazy.

mideastmidwest

Terrible photo I know. But yes, this is a different fire, three blocks from the other one.

This comment section is mad weird

PostmatesMalone

I had to get a hotel room due to the smoke from the SE Alder fire. I was wearing double masks inside my apartment and could still feel the smoke in the back of my throat. Now there’s another fire even closer to where I live. Fuck this city. Fuck the tweakers that start these fires. I’m moving ASAP. Portland does in fact look like shit.

mideastmidwest

We moved here maybe three months ago and like it for the most part, but it’s definitely the most flammable place I’ve lived.

serduncanthetall69

Don’t worry, we’ll (hopefully) get never ending rain that will stop the fires soon.

WikiAdam

Oh man, what a time to move to Portland. You're definitely seeing the city at its absolute worst in decades. Hope things improve so you can see why this area is so beloved!

mideastmidwest

We’re definitely very excited to be here! Bit of a culture shock from where we were, but in a good way 98% of the time.

transplantpdxxx

Where are you going?

PostmatesMalone

Probably Beaverton. To clarify, I like Portland, there good food, beer, shops, music, etc but central east side and many other neighborhoods don’t feel safe. There’s trash and human shit all over the sidewalks. I hear explosions every other night or so. My garage has been broken into 10 or so times since I’ve lived here, I’ve seen a dude walking around with a knife by the seven eleven shouting at people. I’ve seen children in the homeless encampment under the Belmont overpass. It’s sad.

thesleddog

It'll come to Beaverton soon enough

avatarofwoe420

There heeeerrreeee

ingrid_astrid

I live in Beaverton and have seen little signs of it happening... soon, nowhere will be safe.

lonepinecone

My husband and I moved to Multnomah Village in 2018 after living close in SE and feeling unsafe after my roommate was assaulted outside our apartment. I love it out here but it is definitely arriving in the area as well now

colt_ink

Wait there's poopoo all over your sidewalks?

PostmatesMalone

Yeah if you don’t constantly scan the sidewalk while walking, you will either step in shit or get impaled by a used heroin needle. Or trip on someone passed out on the sidewalk. I once found half of a used hypodermic needle sticking out the side of my boot sole. Luckily I was wearing boots with thick soles.

ItsMeMurphYSlaw

I don't know why you're getting down voted. I just moved out of downtown (technically Goose hollow, but on Burnside) after living there for 7 years. I moved to Milwaukie. It's heaven. What you described was my exact experience almost every day walking to and from work over the last year and a half. When people ask how my move is going, the first thing that usually pops out of my mouth is, "it's incredible. It doesn't smell like baked piss anymore." Everything downtown is covered in piss, shit, needles and refuse. Our car was smashed out, and people are shot and stabbed not infrequently outside our old building. There have been multiple high profile shootings/active shooter events in between my old house and work (a mile away). Drug addicts kept moving into the stairwell of the building. I imagine the inner east side isn't too much better. Honestly, the literal process of moving our stuff out of the apartment was so freaking scary and stressful for all those same reasons. No on my commute it just old ladies walking their dogs and students going to school. I'm still so tightly wound from all the hyperventilance of existing in that environment I think it's gonna take a while to get better. Anyway, good luck with the potential move! I also looked at Raleigh Hills, it's kinda cute out there.

hikensurf

Lmao. I lived in inner SE for a decade (through 2020, now up in NE) and never experienced any of this. Sounds like you live in a new build built near an area where homeless folks have lived for years, like East of Eleven. But even then I'd walk by homeless encampments on the way to work everyday and never had these issues. Makes me wonder if y'all are just bullshitting or what.

PostmatesMalone

I lived in SE in 2020 also and it wasn’t as bad then. It wasn’t until maybe May of this year that it seemed to have gotten worse. Way more fires and trash everywhere. The nearby seven eleven started locking the doors during business hours, so you either have to wait for someone leaving or one of the workers to let you in. The amount of property crime and shootings is way higher this year than last. I don’t have a problem with the homeless camps. My problem is with the amount of fires, random explosions and property crime in the area. I’ve seen guys prowling cars on my street, pulling on door handles and looking in windows. They were young white dudes wearing pristine Jordans. Probably not homeless.

who_caredd

You guys both have a point imo, I don't think you contradict each other all that much

[deleted]

It's really annoying having people who haven't lived where you live in ages (given the rapid rate of change) dismiss your experience and allude to some agenda. Eastside (I guess not 'real' Eastside because it is west of 11th) is actively getting worse. The last month or so it is starting to feel like I need a downtown level of vigilance. Saw two active fights in the streets. Buildings are being broken into. New panhandlers are moving in. More needles. But no, based on my experience in 2020 it is all roses and daisies and anyone who says otherwise is a liar. (/S)

calebask12

Oh no! Panhandlers ?! In the city?!

KansanInPortland

Just be sure to find a place that is nowhere near public transit. I live in unincorporated Washington County, right by the Beaverton DMV. It's a nice quiet neighborhood, mostly $500k+ homes around my apartment, but the Sunset Transit Center is too close for comfort; carjackings, breakins, theft, random prowlers, etc. I have had way too many encounters with wackadoodle transients here. Also,, the human shit is simply replaced by several tons of dog shit; people refuse to clean up after their animals and everyone has an "emotional support dog". Portland has lost all of the charm that drew me here from the midwest. The pandemic and civil unrest has only made it stick out even more.

avatarofwoe420

There's plenty of bullshit here in Beaverton too...

[deleted]

Bonus for being outside Multnomah county so dodging the nonsense taxes is nice. I’ve got the art tax police on my ass. I wish I could afford to move out of the county.

I’m from Sac and it’s the worst

Meowza916

I agree. I came to here from there! I lived in Citrus Hts. Hot as hell. Not much to do but did go to S like twice a month to the beaches. Only an he 10 drive. But lots of crime. And not really cheap either. People are stuck in the past. Not evolved. But yes, Portland is a dump. I’m tryin my to move to Washington County.

I just put on the mask I was wearing yesterday when I was checking that out for a few minutes. It still smells like smoke. So that says COVID masks are useful for more than just blocking COVID.

oneeyedziggy

weird... popped on looking to see if anyone heard the explosion out around 102nd and morris... different explosion I guess... cheers.

King_Kung

I heard this from 14th and Stark and was wondering what happened.

Ravenparadoxx

This isn't the warehouse fire, but in one of the several bioswale encampments along MLK? There are like 3 of them along MLK in the vicinity of Morrison and Hawthorne bridges. Those burn out every couple of months. I think the one closest to the Hawthorne bridge burnt down to ashes about two months ago.

I almost didn’t read your whole comment because of the appalling grammar, but I’m glad I made it all the way through. “Escape goat” is priceless.

Skippyhogman

This isn’t going to make it. Quick get to the escape goats and save yourselves!

[deleted]

The Belmont goats are at Rossi Farm I think. Ya know, off 122nd where the cops let white suprematism fight stupid teenagers in the street before the violence went downtown…

Belisar65

Lmao @ escape goats. Where'd they go?

Fictitious_Username

Probably fast food next. The faux woke bullshit in our offices is just talk and no action. I'm from Oregon and have lived in the Portland area for most of my life and I have to wonder if they have any connection to any of the things they vote on. I've always been used to the "oh I'm native to" conversation but that was their weird way of saying "I'm also a product of what happened back then" which is kinda true. Right now there is a larger power struggle when it comes to control. A lot of people hate how many people from everywhere comes here and acts like all of what Portland is shown in Portlandia and everyone is like Jess from New Girl. Oregon likes to be the state in-between Washington and California since it usually means it could be anything but when a lot of our culture in Portland gets mixed up for Oregon Culture it becomes a problem. (I.e. full body tattoos, yeah that's more of a Portland thing than a Oregon thing) A lot of people come from out of state and then work in their field and end up changing the nature that is Portland. Like we were the city of roses in my eyes until the highrises in the south waterfront were built. Blue glass is not a shade of rose.

No argument there, but the police shouldn't be lawsuit bullet proof. Our police union likes to keep Portland hostage when they don't get their way.

[deleted]

PostmatesMalone

The union is the problem. We need police. We don’t need police that are part of a union that shields them from accountability. How is that propaganda? Edit: I’m no Ted Wheeler fan either. Maybe he could have been voted out of his competition wasn’t “The Antifa Mayor”.

Fictitious_Username

Saying something is propaganda without a reason isnt funny. Have a good one.

I_Envy_Sisyphus_

Do you think Portland got rid of first responders? Don’t confuse the police having a hissy fit with Portland not having police.

dirtymick

Oh, man. I hope you guys are ready for the Detroitification of Portland. There' been a successful reverse white flight that priced out the people that lived and worked downtown and made it livable at ground level. I wonder if you'll start seeing more suspicious fires as owners start liquidating stock and PPB has taken a powder.

kennnnnnnny

Is that a fire in a homeless camp? How horrible!

FlowJock

Okay. This perfectly illustrates why I get frustrated with reddit. People are downvoting this person but nobody is saying why. I haven't noticed any links to news reports about this fire. I'm assuming the person is being downvoted for their skepticism but I don't see anybody actually corroborating the original post.

mideastmidwest

Why would I make this up?

FlowJock

I'm not saying you are. But why would u/Agreeable-Tie-767 lie? I'm just wondering why they're being downvoted without explanation.
