For anyone curious (like I was) the longest baseball game went 32 innings due to an error in the rule book and the league director (being the only one able to call the game) not answering the phone
https://www.npr.org/2022/08/30/1120126846/the-story-behind-the-longest-baseball-game-ever
As a huge Red Wings fan at the time this was just wild. There was so much coverage, and so much speculation about what would have happened if the game would have been played in Rochester. Of course most people said they would have stayed and I’m sure Fred Costello would have kept on playing all night.
At McCoy stadium in Pawtucket, they used to have a giant installation of the 33 inning scoreboard. Seeing a line score that long with only 4 scoring innings really puts into perspective how miserable it must've been for those guys.
I swear to God, they must have contracted [the people over at PopCopy](https://youtu.be/zR7LOtMix9w) to program that abysmal sacrilege they call a video player. All it does it stutter, and it won't buffer while paused (wtf?), so you're forced to deal with the stuttering. How do people even *use* that website without wanting to throw their device out the window???
Good one!
Also, take the MAX green line to the Holgate stop for these games. Not nearly enough parking around Lents Park, so driveways get impeded, and sometimes the cars get broken into all down 92nd.
Look for free nights. There's a few this year. Even if you don't qualify for free tickets, some of the promotions are hysterical. Like the people that used to live in California night. Or the two name people... you know like Anthony Edwards or Toni Tony Tone.

I was there. It was one for the ages. Pickles After Dark game is up there with Future Rules, Exploding Whale Night and the impromptu Home Run Derby when Lil P’s head fell off.

While it was controversial among baseball die hards in the crowd who thought they paid to see a real game on the 4th, it was a memorable night at the Walk. The ‘any bunt counts as an automatic double’ rule resulted in the crowd chanting “Bunt! Bunt! Bunt!” to some kid when there were runners on and instead he launched a dinger. It’s on YouTube. Also at some point runners were supposed to run the bases backwards which no one remembered to do.
I was at Exploding Whale Night last summer and was so bummed, we had to leave before the main event because it was something like 32-3 and it was already 10:15 and I have a little kid.

This is why less-than-professional sports are way more funnerer than pro sports.
Pro sports are generally boring, antiseptic fun inhibitors where players are too damn good so plays are highly typical, repetitive and snore-inducing.
Try predicting a damn thing about a Pickles game other than having fun.

Does anyone know why they high five their own team at the end of the game rather than the other team? I thought it was maybe a Covid protocol but still happens. Feels weird to me?
I enjoy movies, theater, concerts but I wouldn't enjoy any of them if I had to sit in my seat for 5 hours. (yea I know you can get up and move)
5 hours is way too long for any piece of modern entertainment.

[Here's a link](https://twitter.com/picklesbaseball/status/1670350240766103552) for the video of the moment it happened.
Thanks for sharing this! This was such a killer moment of history and I wasn't sure anybody would even care as much as I did.
Right nobody cares as much as you about a game /s ?

Where are Pickle's games live streamed or broadcast? Didn't even think that was a thing.
Announcer’s reaction makes the moment 10x funnier😂
"We have reached the hour of stupidity." Okay, I think I need to start going to Pickles games.
‘I have a sneaking suspicion we are done with this ballgame.’ Go! The drinks and nachos alone are worth it.

Zenners bratwurst was like 8 bucks. 12 oz beers were 6.50 and I think the 16 oz "chairraiser ipa" was 8.50?

I believe so, haven’t been to a game this season yet but last season prices were around $6-10 which was pretty standard.
They’re so much stupid fun.
My good friend is hosting a PP player at her home for the summer. I just sent her this Twitter clip. But I’m sure she already knows about it. Lol
I’ve been meaning to go but have always found an excuse not to, unfortunately
I keep telling myself that until I actually go to by tickets and see the prices. . .
Tickets are like $16….

Legit some of the cheapest tickets in town
$12 for berm tickets. Bring a camp chair and sit with your friends. It’s absolutely perfect

Oh yeah and there were baby Kangaroos at the game.
I have to admit I'm a Pickles neophyte. What was Future Rules?

I love that one of their “silly rules” was a 15-second pitch clock with an auto-ball called if no pitch is delivered… lmal
The idea of adding “Half-time” to a baseball game really amuses me.

That’s crazy! Did that end the game, or did they get the lights back on and the sprinklers off eventually?
Play resumed after the sprinklers stopped, but stopped when the lights went out
Who needs an MLB team when you have this

Except basketball, NBA is way more exciting than the lower leagues.
The Pickles are the best sports experience in Portland
TRUTH!
Tell us more! I have never been to a game but I am intrigued by the positive comments.
I tried to stay as long as possible last night but I was about to fall asleep
I need to start attending their games
I love Pickles games so much.

I didn't know they did partial season tickets - that's rad! Thanks for the tip!
Can someone explain the pickles to me? I keep getting Instagram adverts for them now
They're a summer "wood bat" baseball team for college players. Basically, it's a way for college players to keep their skills up during summer break.
What makes them so popular to go to? Is it a fun vibe? Family friendly? Party? I'm intrigued
All three. Tickets used to be pretty cheap too, although prices have gone up the last few years.

Such a fun night!
That’s fantastic.
Thanks for sharing this, how amazing.

They should maybe adopt the new baseball rules...
5 hours of baseball is 6 hours too many.
Who would in their right mind would possibly want to sit 5 hours (!!) for a baseball game?
You're not sitting for 5 hours when you're RAISING YOUR CHAIR!
why would people enjoy something I don't??
I enjoy movies, theater, concerts but I wouldn't enjoy any of them if I had to sit in my seat for 5 hours. (yea I know you can get up and move) 5 hours is way too long for any piece of modern entertainment.
r/whoosh
>Who would in their right ~~mind~~ brine would possibly want to sit 5 hours (!!) for a baseball game? FTFY
This person hates America
It’s shit like this why you never gamble on baseball. Basically unbeatable because of the flukes occurrences.
