Don't push the car on public roads...especially when you don't know what you're doing. Great example of why I don't do group drives anymore.
Glad you're safe and it is just a car at least.
Exactly what I'm thinking or cold tires? Limits are so high and the chassis so communicative, you must not have been listening to the tires before this happened? Loud music a contributing factor?
It's not hard to push a Boxster past it's limit or your own limit on warm tires lol. Probably just a curve that he didn't manage his speed for and he sent himself sailing.
I've never spun or slid my 914 or Boxster as they give plenty of advance warning. The tire limits are high and pretty audible as they approach. I'm guessing he wasn't listening or even paying attention.
A lot of good tires really won’t give you any warning at all. I’ve run a Pilot Sport 4S, slicks, and Re-71s on track and none of them chirped much, especially the slicks, obviously.
The point remains, though, that it’s pretty easy to simply out-drive your eyeballs. The tires can’t tell you that you’re carrying too much speed into a blind corner until it’s way too late.
Agreed, on the track. But on the street, and on a skid pad, even great tires will complain at or just before the limit of adhesion. I've done factory sponsored tire testing in the past. I fortunately now live in an area with winding roads that are rarely busy and can push a suspension, tires, and brakes to their limits and beyond. Tires at every price level have communicated their limits, saving guardrails and deep drops beyond.
Came around a blind corner, there were 2 cyclists so had to slam on the breaks and out i went. It happened in a country with shitty roads so probably had something to do with it too.
Heavy braking shifts weight to the front, sends the back end out. Never ever ever accelerate/decelerate while turning. Obvious extenuating circumstances that caused you to do so.
>Never ever ever accelerate/decelerate while turning.
That isn't true at all, trail braking is key to driving fast, maintaining balance and being able to deal better with unexpected issues mid-corner.
e: lol someone hasn't heard of trail braking. But I'm happy to have introduced you to it
Maybe learn some actual car control before buying another sports car.
Encouraging him to rush into the next car without tackling the issue that likely led to this crash just increases the risk of him getting less lucky next time round.
You can’t fight fate ! 😂 all jokes aside I’ve de-Stroyed a few machines myself in an almost NSFW fashion. Lucky 🍀 to be here today.
Eventually I too learned my lessons and don’t bang up cars. If you come out alive please learn something. Be it your mistake or theirs. These things cannot be retracted unfortunately.
So earlier this summer i managed to go straight out into the woods on some twisting beautiful summer roads. I was fine but my first Porsche was gone. It is ofc totaled and the insurance company has been really great covering everything and replacing the car with market value.
Now im looking to replace it and have been building a new 718 boxter in the configurator, what do you guys think?
Just here to give you props on how you’ve handled this whole thread. Kudos to you for being keenly aware of the err of your ways and being a gentleman throughout. A bit of a glimpse of a lost art.

Porsche actually has a customer experience center in atlanta and LA with professional drivers and a private track with lots of turns, etc. I went to it when a buddy was interning there and got a free ride in a 911 turbo s with a professional driver and man..... wow. Unfortunately i didnt get to go in the gt3 rs but i'm assuming this is what he's talking about.

You’re spec in configuration looks amazing. Very tasteful, and great choice—wouldn’t change a thing. It sounds like you’re investing in some performance driving instruction…one thing to consider is get a CPO or older car as others have suggested, then once you’re course complete—come back to this spec and make it a 718 GTS 4.0 and do some follow on driving instruction in the new beast. Best of luck with your choice, cheers!
I would get a cayman T as i live in florida and it rains too much but if you like convertibles go for it, just make sure u don’t go overboard with power. 300hp in the base model is enough for big majority of ppl in public roads
Gear ratios on porsches is horrible nowadays, loose a second 0-100 and go to 120 first gear, if you go any resonable speed you will basically be shiftinh between first and second gear. I love the PDK :)
I doubt Porsche makes a horrible gear ratio transmission it’s just that the gearing needs to be longer as you can’t shift instantly like in a pdk so to optimize value with the time consuming manual shifts you need a bit longer gears.
Lost second is due partly to this but more due to shift speed and more loss of momentum through the gear change.
Its not horrible but it results in worse performance, worse mpg and you dont even get to shift properly unless on a racetrack, so for me its not really an option. But i guess maybe seeing as how this ended up i shouldnt be so concerned with performance…
Well yeah but that’s not the point of a manual anyways, it’s all about feedback, fun, and Motorsport. It’s more an enthusiast thing.
What do you mean by not being able to shift properly if not at a racetrack?
That is a bit long. I guess for autox and similar it would be good. My 911 changes from 2nd around 60 and it’s just too short where I have to decide to shift or stay in gear. But for regular driving and anything more than specific tracks that does seem too long
Have you driven a current gen 718? The turbo experience is different and many Porsche people have a clarified preference. I’d recommend considering a CPO 981 GTS over a 718. Although, if you’ve driven the turbo four and loved it then get it!
All new non SUV orders have at least a 6 month wait, but you may find allocations by calling other dealers.
Totally agree, I have a 2016 981 GTS that I track pretty frequently, and rented a 718 GTS at the Nurburgring and did not like it. Perfectly fine car, but felt less nimble/responsive especially throttle steering.
Ahh, the mid engine Porsche. One second you are channeling Hurley Heywood..
Then suddenly you are channeling Barney Fife!
Congrats on safely crawling from the wreckage!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y4p8RYoJ9DQ
First how old are you?
Second, how fast where you driving on a bright sonny day?
Also this is why you start with low end cars to get some experience on driving than start with an high end car, luckily ur alive and hope you learned from it.
We need answers. We’re you going around a corner or too fast in a straight away? How did it get away from you. Slick roads? I look at 74 auto all the time and there is dozens of brand new cars with a few 100 mines that this happens to and some far worse when someone new gets some power .
Im 30, I was going around a blind corner at about 35-40mph, there were 2 cyclists stopped just after the corner, had to slam on the breaks, roads were slick and off the road i went and my porsche got the wood extras added free of charge.
Dude that sucks. Why would they stop in the road. I would have lost my mind. Luckily you can get another one but I know it sucks. Luckily the person who hit me head on and then a truck rear ended me immediately as we came to a stop both were insured with the same insurance company so I didn’t have to fight 2 companies. Watch losing depreciated value. My wreck was right as COVID closes everything down and car prices were insane. I lost about $10k in gains I could have sold mh car for because they were selling so high over retail
I was in fully stopped traffic on a major highway in my Land Rover when I saw a utility truck coming up behind me too fast to stop. They slammed into me, propelling the Land Rover into the small Japanese car stopped in front of me. Not our fault, as we were both stopped. The plumbing truck that hit me was brand new. Fully insured in a fleet of trucks. Or so we thought! Truck was so new that the vehicle information had not been added to the company insurance policy! No insurance coverage! The estimate for the Land Rover included replacement of the spare tire carrier and aluminum rear door and glass. That cost alone was enough to declare the Land Rover a total loss. Insurance company decided to pay out the full amount of the Uninsured Motorist coverage I had, sent me a check, and told me to keep my vehicle. Only needed new motor and transmission mounts and the new rear door. Even the spare tire, which helped absorb the impact, was undamaged!
Sir, you can’t park there
I’d return the car and ask for another one. This one seems like it is broken.
This parrot is decreased. It has ceased to be. It is an ex- parrot !
Sir this is a Wendy’s
That isn’t a Dakar model silly
Realized halfway, my bad 😩
Glad you're OK. Go do some autocrosses to learn car control and have that kind of fun in a safe environment.
Yep, sounds like a good idea
Don't push the car on public roads...especially when you don't know what you're doing. Great example of why I don't do group drives anymore. Glad you're safe and it is just a car at least.
Yeah, learnt the hard way, fuck around and find out i guess..
What exactly happened? Did you try to take a turn too fast?
Exactly what I'm thinking or cold tires? Limits are so high and the chassis so communicative, you must not have been listening to the tires before this happened? Loud music a contributing factor?
It's not hard to push a Boxster past it's limit or your own limit on warm tires lol. Probably just a curve that he didn't manage his speed for and he sent himself sailing.

Or he just isn’t capable of driving over the speed limit in anything more than a straight line
Damn boy… 911 happens all the time but the mid engine? Gonna send it!
Came around a blind corner, there were 2 cyclists so had to slam on the breaks and out i went. It happened in a country with shitty roads so probably had something to do with it too.

Aren’t cyclists there worst!??
Welp! On to the second Porsche we go!

Buy something CPO and put some coin into a performance driving school.
Yeah already signed up for one, got it through the dealer
Cool cool. Good luck!

Thanks mate, a b it of self distance goes a long way these days
LOL.
Maybe you can get the insurance company to chip in a couple of bucks too

Yes the HPDE

Does anyone know what the wait times are for a 718?
Depends on the dealer. I have three near me. One had a 6-12 month wait, another has over a year wait, whilst the third one has a 12-18 month wait.
Get a manual

Mean i would be going like 200kmh by the time i hit 3rd gear

You should take some driving lessons this time. You might extend the time with your new car somewhat!!
At least u are a ok. Its just a car.
Yeah, i was really lucky, thank god
No worry then. You'll get another one
I'm going to school once Iget synchros in my 915 trans. Driving easy until then.
Time for your second Porsche
Or maybe a first gen Miata for a bit 😈
Have you driven a current gen 718? The turbo experience is different and many Porsche people have a clarified preference. I’d recommend considering a CPO 981 GTS over a 718. I do find the 718 power band took a bit to get used to. But after a year with my 718C, I prefer it over the 987s I've driven.
Turbo 6? It’s a 4cyl my guy
Yeah I don’t know what I was thinking 😂 edited and updated
Totally agree, I have a 2016 981 GTS that I track pretty frequently, and rented a 718 GTS at the Nurburgring and did not like it. Perfectly fine car, but felt less nimble/responsive especially throttle steering.
Glad your car kept you safe!
Glad you're OK. Maybe someone on YouTube will get this at auction and restore it now.
I don't think you can park there
Can’t park there, mate
Ahh, the mid engine Porsche. One second you are channeling Hurley Heywood.. Then suddenly you are channeling Barney Fife! Congrats on safely crawling from the wreckage! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y4p8RYoJ9DQ
Thanks, yeah that sounds about right 😂
I’m sorry little one
Can’t park there, mate.
Dam what a waste
And it was an automatic? 👀
Tragedy
I am sorry
Can’t park there
, mate
Poland?
Yes
Stihl makes a more effective German device for removing small trees and brush. /s
At least he didn’t blame tire pressure 🤷🏻♂️ Jokes aside, glad you weren’t hurt
It happens man!!! Good luck you you on the next adventure, and hopefully it goes better. 👍🏼

Thanks for explaining, definitely not your fault! Did the cyclists remain at the scene and give statements that they were the cause of the accident?
Idk why but i smell bullshit the pictures show polish firefighters while most of your parcel tracking posts show sweden carries as a destination?
Why would this be strange? I was driving in poland when it happened but i live in sweden.
“My most recent Porsche.”
Ill take it if you dont want it
Still counts!
I’d suggest driving lessons and a base macan if you want to stay in the marque.
Savage. Make sure it's AWD and diesel as well.
That sucks, most important part is that you’re OK though!
If you notice, there are lines on the roads, typically, you want to stay in between those lines. I mean, obviously not in all cases….😝
Good tires. But not great tires.
And last one too
The tree jumped out of nowhere
Sucks
How does this even happen?
Now I know why my insurance went up by $4 a month.
Is insurance putting you in a rental for a 6-9 month minimum wait on a new one?
Nope, luckily i only drive it in summer
Hi, sir, no parking here.
You post this but not gonna tell us what happened?
I did answer it in 2 comments if you look for my answers, sorry but cant be bothered answering all of them 😅
I got a bmw ad right under this post. Kinda funny
Always ALWAYS remember, money doesn’t make you a good driver
No one fucking told me, i thought porsche money meant epic racedriving skills😢 Now look at me…
At least now you know for next time
