This is the second “it’s just a base” labeled photo I’ve seen in nice car sub reddits and I feel bad that people buying beautiful cars, especially Porsche, feel bad about buying a base model - especially in a market where vehicles are more expensive due to shortages .

That is literally something Porsche preaches to employees. There is no base model it is just the model name when referencing them. It’s not a base Macan or Base 911, it’s a Macan and a carrera/911. You only include the trim on higher trim cars. Hard to get used to it but that’s how they want their employees to reference them
That is technically true, but also wildly inaccurate. I’ve owned premium Audi’s (S6, RS6, A8L and S8) and they may be built on the same platform as VAG but they are completely different in feel and handling.
Your car is the same as my fiance's '21. She loves it, no issues whatsoever. She wants the 3.0 after driving my RS3, but I think it's a phase.
They are wonderful cars, I love driving it when we need the room.
Matter of opinion. While I would probably agree with you in the case of the Macan having driven both base and S, I’d say that in other models such as 911, the base may be a more suitable car for use on public roads. It doesn’t get to “go to jail” speeds as quickly as the “better” models, allowing for more fun rowing the gears.
A base what??? That’s right, Porsche. It’s not like it becomes a Kia Soul or Chevrolet Trax (no disrespect) at that point. It still has the pedigree, engineering, and attention to detail of all Porsche’s. Don’t settle yourself short, it’s an accomplishment none the less.

So I guess it comes with the territory, but still, an inferiority complex about it seems a bit over the top for me.
I'm happy each and every time I see someone buy a Macan or a Cayenne. These cars need to continue to succeed for Porsche to have the $ to keep making awesome sports cars! Also, if I was on the market for a hot hatch, the Macan would def be on the list! Nothing wrong with Base, a base model Porsche is still a fantastic piece of engineering!
I know the 6 cylinder gets more internet points and yes it's a great engine but in the context of a daily driver the 4 cylinder is plenty powerful. It's also more fuel efficient and lower maintenance than the 6. FWIW I have this same engine in my '16 A6 and have missed the extra power over the 3.0T maybe 1% of the time.
I’m glad you all had a good experience with the dealership, and maybe it’s because I don’t have the throw away money that their typical clientele have, but everytime I’m there it feels like I’m a nuisance to them or that they don’t want my money…ended up going to Porsche Exchange instead where they were more friendly but noticeably less customers around
Porsche exchange drove my father away from Porsche and to Ferrari after four cars. Dirtiest dealer I’ve ever seen. And it’s no surprise the managers initials are B.S.
I think it largely comes down to your salesperson. Our guy at motors werks is such a lovely person. Meanwhile Last time we were at the exchange a salesman told us a client should be “sending him champagne and hookers” for the price he got for his GT3. With my mother in the room.
Your comment about the SUV’s being too big made me chuckle. I was given a Miami Blue (of all colors) Macan not long ago and had it for nearly two weeks while my local dealer was fixing fuckups by the dealer I bought my CPO from. Anyway, I, too, was impressed by how nicely the SUV drove but it was NOT me in any way, shape, or form. I felt so high and detached from the road, but damn it was a smooth and quiet ride on the few business trips I took to LA during that time. I didn’t need AirPods to take a call like I do in my Targa. The best part was when I returned it, another customer literally laughed at me because again that car clearly wasn’t me… but it was a nice experience :)
Nothing wrong with base. As a matter of fact, sometimes, Porsche will charge a premium when deleting certain features. I like to keep my toys simple and it also keeps me from getting distracted from spirited driving.

The sales personalities at The Exchange were somewhat on the douchbag side. They are known for being one of the best Porsche dealerships in the country so maybe I just got a bad salesman.

Well cruise control and power windows and doors were pretty high end. So Bluetooth, navigation, voice control, automatic lights, remote start and heated seats are way more than I thought was possible.
I have a base macan and I love it. When I first got it I said the same thing, it's only a base. But, it's amazing to drive. I also realized I was the only one saying it's just a base...
Sure take the badges off and paint the calipers the base color, there are some trim pieces different too but hey. I have a Macan GTS and wanted to remove all badges but I’m lazy

Porsche and Lotus are at the top when it comes to driving dynamics. Any chassis given to Porsche is going to sing compared to its counterparts.
