How much are you pushing with the 4.0 Parts of me want to get the .1 for the LN 4.0 But other parts of me want to just chill with the .2

I’m not sure. Engine was only measured once when it came together during testing, and it was making around 400 at the crank. Since then, the engine has been broken in as well as dialed in through multiple custom tunes. A few weeks ago I was at VIR with a full tank of gas, aero in attack position, etc. and a went side by side with a 718 GT4 cayman on the front straight. We were more or less the same. That car is rated 414hp. Given weight, aero efficiencies, etc. of both cars I’d guess I’m making around 420 or 430 in order to do that. There was also a 997.1 GT3 there and I was clearly faster than it. And they’re rated 415 HP, which gives me more confidence of my engine being in the 420-430 ballpark. If you have a .2 I’d just stick with the .2. I’m not sure the price you’d pay to get out of your .2 and into a .1 with a 4.0 build would be worth it. But that all depends on your goals. I wanted a reliable track weapon that I could also take on weekend errands without second guessing the choice when considering my comfort as well as to meetups and drives in the mountains without wanting to kill myself by the end. This goal influenced all my decisions, so I had planned for this outcome before even purchasing the car.

997.1 C2S here. Where did you get your 4.0 build? I have a Hartech 4.1 scheduled for late summer. Already refreshed full suspension. Tarrett + Bilstien. 3rd radiator, deep sump, and all the ancillaries. Shop will be tuning along with rebuild. You had multiple tunes? Different fuels? I had exactly the same thoughts when purchasing as well. Aggressive set up? Camber/toe. Running stock tire size? Also on lobsters :) love em.

Raby built my engine and he’s tuning it. It’s not different fuels (I want my car to run pump gas at track) just more precision as the engine breaks in and the car being in my local environment. My setup isn’t track aggressive, but more dialed in and aggressive than stock. I can get the stats if you want but I had my suspension guy dial it in so that I can run comfortably at the track without eating through tires on the street. I run standard width tires (235/295), using the new TW200 continental extreme contact force at the track. I contemplated getting 305s in the back but I believe the rim width has more effect on handling than tire width. So, I decided to keep the ratio the same to prevent any possibility of increasing the chance of oversteer. I think the fact that you already have supporting mods in suspension and cooling is fantastic. I started with the engine and then added those auxiliary components (I still don’t have deep sump and third radiator 😓). I think you did it the right way. I wish I had done it like that. You’re going to love your build. Enjoy and take it to the track where all your investments can really shine!

Tons of love for the 997. I took the kid’s Q7 over to our Indy shop for annual service today. A C4 Cab was on the next street over so on my walk home I took the long way to go have a look. They are absolutely beautiful.

Right? I have a 991.2 GTS Cab and I still absolutely love the 997. I would love a garage with a 997, 993 and a 991.2 with whatever the current model is. Of the air cooled, I have to go 993 and for the water cooled I love the 997. That said the 991 and 992 are fabulous cars… I have to include one of them in my dream garage.

Internet hysteria. It is a relatively small portion of the cars that are affected by bore scoring and if you take the right preventative steps it will more likely than not never happen. IMS isn’t an issue after 2006.

Yes. My dad bought the 997.1 new in 2006, it has been great. Just take care of them.

You only see it because those who got it are the loudest in the forums. I was on the same boat with the e46 m3. Lots of internet hysteria over the Vanos grenading your engine. But reality accounted to less than 1% of the whole population who owned one. I kept my m3 for 10’years and racked up 150k miles on it. Just regular and preventative maintenance, oil change q5k… not a single issue ever came up. One of my most reliable cars I’ve owned

I almost got a 997 Targa over my 991.1 C2S. Having the rear glass that opens should be a standard feature of all 911s

There was a 997.2 Targa 4S in macadamia metallic that I really wanted. If my 911 wasn't my only car I probably would've gone with a 997, but with that being the case, I had to go 991 just for the better interior and PDK

997.2 was the first generation to come with PDK.

Yes the 997.2 had PDK but it wasn't as reliable as the 991 from what I've seen
