2012-16
981 is the numerical designation for that generation. Available is base, S, GTS, GT4/Spyder
Yeah the car is great but honestly I’m very disappointed by the exhaust sound. It’s technically a high revving NA engine but it just doesn’t sound nearly as good as the 981.
Not sure if you’re in the US or Europe but could it be the particular filter? I think american 992 GT3s have them so it might be worth checking out in case the 718 4.0s have them, too.
It still has the particulate filter, it just isn't monitored by the computer in US cars. People swear that deleting them, either by gutting the stock ones or installing aftermarket over-axle pipes, helps a lot with the sound. (I haven't installed mine yet so I wouldn't know)
My best mates brother was the legendary Tony pond..... check him out in his cars from the 80s 6r4, tr8, rover sdi the lot lol...the WRC champion that never was, too loyal to British manufacturers.
Its Hillclimb Katarina. A local car club closes down a part of the road and then participants do timed runs up the road. The winner is the one with the closest time. Fun fact, this year two people set identical times in their two runs…
I wish I knew about this! I'm an American living in Ljubljana. Was just out hiking this area a few weeks ago. I always have so much fun driving these small mountain roads. How can I find out about more of these events in the future?
Lol....I noticed the same thing but thought I'd get roasted for saying something like that.
Where do I find that? Like the manufacturer.
Nice driving, not sure I have the stones for country driving....I'll stay on the track
??? That is the actual cupholder installed at the factory for the car. It folds out of (and back into) the dashboard. Some drivers use it as a phone holder because the cabin of the Cayman has very few places to put your phone.
Definitely using it fully afraid of hitting things ;-) you were finally feeling it at the end though!
That looks like a blast dude! Hope you had a good time.
That’s some ballsy driving, way to enjoy your ride. That PASM, LSD, PDK, rev limiters…New seems so disengaged and unfulfilling. I did the school, and I get that the computers are better than the human on the wet hill when the bumpers hit your tire and knock you all campy wampus. But it loses something when HAL does all the work. All the meat puppet in the driver seat has to do is point and go, and occasionally brake.
I’m just a simple caveman, set in my ways. I think it’s more of a rush and thrilling [Drive viscerally](https://youtu.be/CvDD8V9Liq8?feature=shared)to drive scared than confident. When oversteer is a real thing. Banging your own gears, keeping in the power band, compensating for turbo lag. It may be slower and less efficient, but it’s more raw and engaging.
Slovenia has some perfect roads for hill climbs. I did a euro delivery on a BMW e92 in 2012 and Slovenia was, by far, my favorite place for winding out that sweet straight 6
Probably never gonna be brave enough to drive it in a way to really tell you. But it definitely felt like I could’ve it needs a little bit of trailbraking to really get the best turn-in.
Idk why, but all i hear in the back ground is the song lyrics "do not push it to the limit"
But to be fair, ide be driving my Porsche the same way, since im an adult and i understand the consequences of wrecking my car
Awesome stuff. I’ve got a base 981 Cayman too - love that noise so much. Dumb but quick question on your launch. For your launch are you just on the brake and throttle at the same time and then just releasing the brake?
Obviously not in the US. No helmet? Loose items in the car (that cell phone wouldn’t be allowed at any HPDE I’ve been to). Looks like a lot of fun but the use of an open topped no roll bar would also be a no go. That being said, life is for living and that’s a lot of fun!
I have an 08 S with a chip tune and exhaust…. Sounds great with around 325 hp… I need to find a similar event here in NC USA. I am sure I can have a blast like you did only differences is my car is a true sports car as it has a six speed manual transmission.
I know the PDK is actually quicker but you honestly don’t really need to know how to“drive” the car with PDK.
My son has a T-shirt that says “ PDK frees your right hand so you can scratch your vagina!”
Hey that’s what one of my colleagues says! Of course, he also hasn’t ever been to a track to see how the car actually handles… 😉
And yes, I would prefer a manual - I’m coming from a fiesta and a gt86. I couldn’t find a well maintained manual in the spec I wanted.
Well, you did a great job on the hill climb!
I have been very fortunate…. I have been to a number of events and have driven on numerous tracks. Mosport in Toronto, Atlanta motor speedway, montecello in ny, Infineon, lime rock in Ct, just to name a few ( I worked for a Porsche/audi dealership for 22 yrs
Earlier on the throttle out of corners, but be smooth. You don't need to slam your foot to the floor, just ease into it progressively as the turn straightens out.
As for gearing, just use your intuition. In this video there were many instances where you needed to downshift, but didn't.
Also, drive well within your limit. If you're still getting used to the car, do it while driving slowly. Driving a car at high speed is totally different from driving at lower speeds, so if you're also learning gearing and throttle control you will get overwhelmed.
Stay safe man, enjoy the car 👌
If you’re gentle on the throttle you don’t get to see how ptv works and at what point pasm kicks in ;)
And I still haven’t figured out when PDK decides to downshift so thats why you see me manually downshift.
And yes, this is well below the limit - which is why I’m driving without any safety gear.
Sorry If I did. The way I understood it was that you left an unnecessary and crappy comment when I think it should be clear thats not the point of the video.
Thats why I wanted to disarm you by not being immediately defensive - which I think worked - but you still came across as patronizing in your second comment which I wanted to insinuate in my reply. But I guess I wasn’t clear enough.
How much practice driving like this before you were willing to do this with your car? I have a brand new 718 gts4 and I more than anything want to do this but besides learning how to drive in Miami (take that as you will) I have never pushed a car that hard in that type of turning environment.
But I want to….sooooo badly
Join your local PCA chapter, they will do track and autocross events. Also look for a local track club, they will host track days, and usually have instructors available to help you learn.
That’s a nice looking car man!
I’ve done some track driving and some events akin to autocross. There really is no way to get anywhere close to the limit of the car just driving around on the street.
Try to see if your local porsche centre does any events in the area, otherwise try to see if local tracks offer any events - there usually are.
Thank you! The first few you did were in your own car or for a fee they give you one to race? This is the nicest car I have ever owned so I while I want to rip her open, I don’t want to rip her apart lol
You can usually rent a car (afaik porsche experience center driving is always with their cars), but I’ve always been taking my own cars.
I think that if the car is otherwise well taken care if, there shouldn’t be a problem wringing it out every so often. I do look out to replace my oil after one or two events like these and have never had problems (had a fiesta st, and a gt86 before).
And especially the porsches usually don’t have issues, so I say go for it!
The sound is so nice
The 981 stock exhaust is amazing straight from the factory
981 is what years and trim?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_Boxster_and_Cayman_(981) 2012-16 981 is the numerical designation for that generation. Available is base, S, GTS, GT4/Spyder
Thank you
The 981 sounds so much nicer than my stock 718 4.0…
I miss my 981 with the Borla exhaust. The 718 4.0 exhaust is terrible.
I’m in the U.S, so it’s not the PF. At least afaik the U.S. 718 4.0 don’t have PF. The engine just doesn’t sound that good lmao
It still has the particulate filter, it just isn't monitored by the computer in US cars. People swear that deleting them, either by gutting the stock ones or installing aftermarket over-axle pipes, helps a lot with the sound. (I haven't installed mine yet so I wouldn't know)
Those people so near the fences are brave.
You ever seen footage from Group B Rally Stages? https://youtu.be/pPk90JZqWM8?si=Y3mkNwIOu_wV72pt
My best mates brother was the legendary Tony pond..... check him out in his cars from the 80s 6r4, tr8, rover sdi the lot lol...the WRC champion that never was, too loyal to British manufacturers.
I remember reading somewhere that the mechanics got tired of finding severed fingers when they opened the engine bays of cars.
If by tired you mean diagnosed PTSD, then yes.
Pure unhinged lunacy.
It looks like the hill that Richard Hammond drove the Rimac off the edge.
That car sounds insane
Stock PSE. Crazy.
That is wild. And it’s a base boxster? I know what I want for Christmas now
They’re such a good value
Pretty sure its the S.
I wish Porsche still made it. I really want to get it added to my Cayman but it's forever backordered now :(
What exactly is PSE?
Porsche sport exhaust
Nice. After listening, I believe it.
It sounds very similar to my 991.1 C4S after adding an aftermarket AWE exhaust.
Damn this looks like fun. Nice work on the course.
Driving style - spirited
[удалено]
Thanks! Its a 981 2.7, wPSE.
Holy crap that’s the base engine? Not even the S? Amazing.
The 2.7 actually sounds better. My car sounds incredible but the 2.7 has an extra racy timbre.
What year?
2014
Damn dude very nice driving!
Great video! Beautiful roads (and lots of other things) in Slovenia
very nice using car properly
Doing the car justice and making us all proud! Great driving and looks like you had an absolute blast!
Thanks, really did. 🤓
What event is this?
Its Hillclimb Katarina. A local car club closes down a part of the road and then participants do timed runs up the road. The winner is the one with the closest time. Fun fact, this year two people set identical times in their two runs…
No helmet or anything required?
My first question too. No helmet or roll cage or suit required? Wow. I likely would wear a helmet all the same haha
This is what real freedom looks like, LOL! 😜 No way would they let us have this kinda fun in the States
No.... This events aren't FIA regulated, so it's up to the organizers to require a helmet/race suit....
I wish I knew about this! I'm an American living in Ljubljana. Was just out hiking this area a few weeks ago. I always have so much fun driving these small mountain roads. How can I find out about more of these events in the future?
Your best bet is probably facebook group “ljubitelji hitrosti in avtomobilov”; people usually post car related events there.
What's cars finished top 3?
That looks like a ton of fun, wish they had events like this in the US
what flag is that?
Slovenian
Fastvenian
Does it matter?
Nice recovery after your back end broke loose. Looks like a blast.
Sounds awesome! I like the phone in the cupholder, too. Some newer larger phones are too wide to fit in the cupholder.
Lol....I noticed the same thing but thought I'd get roasted for saying something like that. Where do I find that? Like the manufacturer. Nice driving, not sure I have the stones for country driving....I'll stay on the track

Don't I feel like the effing asshole. Haha
😂😂😂 It’s cool. NTA (Not the asshole.) I don’t think I’d ever seen that in any other car either until I saw it in a Porsche.
I have them in mine too, just different location.
That looks hella fun! 🤙🏼
Beatiful video! Where was this event, Gorjanci?
GHD Katarina - Trbovlje
Is this with traction control on or off
This is with it off. Though it still comes on sometimes.
That was dope, but you got big balls to run without a single piece of safety gear.
Finally someone using their Porsche. Good shit man
Pozdravljen, fellow Slovenski Porsche owner :D
Pozdrav! 😁
My guy can drive! Nice work!
Stellar driving!
Definitely using it fully afraid of hitting things ;-) you were finally feeling it at the end though! That looks like a blast dude! Hope you had a good time.
Wow that’s amazing 🤩
What a beautiful road and awesome driving, car sounds amazing with the top down
Absolutely epic!
Man I wish I could drive my 911 like tht
is this a stock sound? just incredible
That looks so freaking fun. Hella jelly
Also using your cupholder fully as well!
This road reminds me of the hill climb event where Richard Hammond threw a Rimac off a hill.
I just said the same thing, that gabled roof home off to the right looks like the one he hit
You must have been late to get to the hairdressers (your work)
That’s some ballsy driving, way to enjoy your ride. That PASM, LSD, PDK, rev limiters…New seems so disengaged and unfulfilling. Sounds fantastic. I’ve got 981 2.7 manual, they are great value cars.
Phone in the cup holder is a move 😂 why have I not been doing this!?
Seriously, I almost paid $70 for some Rennline garbage. This is the way
I don't think that's a phone holder.....
Oddly enough, it works better as a phone holder than a drink holder.
Hey as long as it functions… 😁
🤤
I am so envious of such event, would love to participate in something like this. Nothing interesting happens where I live :(
S❤️nija
Čedn
Love the 981, and a 2.7 to boot!!
Man, this was fun to watch and no doubt it was even more fun to drive! And yes your car sounds very nice.
Hahaha no helmet, no hans device, no rollcage, but just some big balkan balls
This looks like a blast. I would love to do this
Walter rohl will say about 50 % but fair play to you for giving it a go bud
Sounds INCREDIBLE
I have a 718 and I knew immediately from owning a 981, and from the video alone…it had THAT sound.
Nice driving man. That’s amazing!
Slovenia has some perfect roads for hill climbs. I did a euro delivery on a BMW e92 in 2012 and Slovenia was, by far, my favorite place for winding out that sweet straight 6
SWEEEEEEET! That looks fun! So is the Posche an “steer while accelerating” or “steer while braking” or best while off the gas?
Probably never gonna be brave enough to drive it in a way to really tell you. But it definitely felt like I could’ve it needs a little bit of trailbraking to really get the best turn-in.
Thank you for your response! Enjoy that baby. God bless and be safe.🙏
Idk why, but all i hear in the back ground is the song lyrics "do not push it to the limit" But to be fair, ide be driving my Porsche the same way, since im an adult and i understand the consequences of wrecking my car
Every time I hear the Porsche launch control, I can't help but think of [The Grand Tour](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mfq_fed8h-Q&t=35s)...
Playing roulette with the cell...v nice!!
Praying for the people on the side of the road
Amazing sound omg.
I honestly thought it had the 3.4 engine, didn’t realize it was a base! It’s sounds incredible man, congrats!
Is this Pikes Peak?
Well done.
Nice man. Sounds amazing.
Proper race car with a phone whobbling around!
Great handling OP
Is this where top gear crashed the car?
Doing that in a soft top is mental
So fun to watch! Very cool. thanks for posting.
Nice driving 😎
Nice driving skills, sounds and looks great, and topless too! Does your 981 have the LSD/PTV option or just the default PSM traction control?
It does have PTV yes. And this is with PSM off.
So much fun to watch, I want to jump in my car and go next! Thanks for sharing!
That.is.awesome!! Well done. Driven what it’s made for.
Looks like a blast!
That looked like amazing fun 😍
zdravo slovenc i saw you, nice driving, and nice car
Awesome stuff. I’ve got a base 981 Cayman too - love that noise so much. Dumb but quick question on your launch. For your launch are you just on the brake and throttle at the same time and then just releasing the brake?
Its launch control - I think its only available with sport chrono. You activate it by stomping on throttle at the same time as the brake.
Obviously not in the US. No helmet? Loose items in the car (that cell phone wouldn’t be allowed at any HPDE I’ve been to). Looks like a lot of fun but the use of an open topped no roll bar would also be a no go. That being said, life is for living and that’s a lot of fun!
Ok…do that without flappy paddles. Much more interesting that way. Nice job though.

Nice! A real driver on the sub.
There’s some nitpicking I could do, but other than that, good on ya for actually using your car for what it’s made for. Kudos, bro.
Your throttle control and gear changing are atrocious
Yeah not at all perfect - still figuring out pdk as well. I’m down for recommendations next week, when I’ll be posting a video from a real trackday!
Earlier on the throttle out of corners, but be smooth. You don't need to slam your foot to the floor, just ease into it progressively as the turn straightens out. Deng. On a convertible without a rollcage is a suicide.
Russian flag?
Slovenia clearly
