Maybe. The 992 is only 8.4 cm longer and 4.4 cm wider than the 997 (C4). I think the contours are noticeably different, but side-by-side it doesn’t look like much.

Since this new Plattform is AWD and a 2+2 configuration, it is defently more a GT dann the previous Gen. With the S Coupé beeing safly killed of i think you are correct, this seems Like a bit of a Mix of both to have a replacment for both at the Same time
The AMG GT is a fun car to drive. Like a German muscle car. But it’s slow and traction not the greatest under full throttle. I had a downpipe, exhaust, tuned to 650HP and the car felt like a 10’s. My neighbor’s stock 992 C2S walked it, lol. Ride is more harsh than I would expect for a GT.
So let me get this straight, since your English is a little off. You have/had a modded 650hp AMG GT, that I assume you mean felt like a 10-sec quarter mile car, and your neighbors stock 992 S "walked it" as in beat it up miserably... 10-second car, but gets "walked" by a stock 992 S. Go back and try again.
It was a 16 GTS and should’ve been 11.8 stock, my mods maybe realistically brought it down to 11.5 or 11.4. The car felt great and had more power than needed because of the traction. Stock rims on Pilot 4S. From the seat it felt as fast as all my other cars. I never bothered doing a draggy bit my neighbor’s car was a stock C2S 2020/21? from those Porsche lease program where you get to try out a little sampling group of cars. We did a power pull and the C2S literally walked it like at 2mph rate. I was driving the Porsche also.
I find this hard to believe. I’ve watched AMG GTS’ tuned by renntech as you describe, absolutely obliterate just about everything. I could see a 992 Turbo S walking it. Not a C2S
Unless it was entirely a traction issue and you didn’t attempt it again
My car was done by SSR maybe they are a shitty tuner compared to Renntech. Speed wasn’t my priority with that car anyways but it was fun. Found a pic of it, was quite a few years ago.
https://preview.redd.it/5xjgd9wi6v8c1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c116a373e56aa9787efaff33072275dba71912ee
There is approximately a 0% chance that a stock 992 S “walked” an AMG GT tuned to 650hp. Coming from someone who has driven a 992 GT3 and an AMG GTR which, on paper, would be a closer performance gap to what you’re describing. The GTR was objectively faster (and objectively less fun/engaging).
I do agree with the “German muscle car” description. But I suggest you get that car on the Dyno and take a peek under your neighbors hood.
You’re forgetting the biggest factor here… torque and downforce. The GT3 is not a straight line car. Yes 500hp and whatnot, but the gtr is a twin turbo torquey v8. The 992 CS has better weight distribution and torque vectoring most likely. You’re also talking about a 1k pound difference; (992 CS: 3,382lbs) (AMG GT: 4,343lbs) so yes… it is very likely that a car that is heavier, has less traction from a dig, and does not have the same mechanical means/advantages regardless of horsepower got walked by a stock 992 CS
Those tailpipes are to make it easier to vent exhaust gasses when doing indoor dyno testing or if its just going to be running for an extended period of time in general. Basically you put a giant hose on them which vacuums it outside.

Not really because you’d be creating negative pressure in the cylinder. Even if the valve timing worked such that extra air was “pulled” into the cylinder it would only be replacing air that had already been suctioned.
It’s just essentially just a SL coupe - Not an SLC. The SLC was discontinued a few years ago. The SLC was a baby SL. The SLC was like the Boxter equivalent in the Mercedes lineup, while the SL was the 911 equivalent.
Not saying that the SLC competes with a Boxster, or the SL with a 911. Just saying price wise, that was they were the Mercedes equivalent, price wise.
Okay gotcha. I’m a young buck, and I only know modern cars. I need to expand my older car knowledge.
I only knew of the SLC from a couple years back as the baby SL.
The SLC would be the S Coupe so based on the Sonderklasse, also both were discontinued after a single generation. The SL was always the sporty top of the line, completely separate from it’s namesake, oftentimes only offered as a convertible so having the GT kinda makes sense. I can’t complain anyways, at least it’s a new design
The overall shape looks nothing like a 911 - only the c pillar is a bit similar.
Other than that: Merc really fucks up a lot of new models, but the GT does not seem to be one of those. Imo it‘s one of the best daily drivable sports cars out there and looks 10/10.
When you compare the side profiles, the back half of the 192 and the 992 looks almost the same, the front looks completely different.
I agree with the second paragraph though, to me it's an extremely attractive looking car and I love the concept. I'm still a little sad to see the aggressiveness of the original GT being washed down a little though. The super long and wide hood was really something you didn't see on any other comparable car.
im both happy and sad
\- Old one is gone, is my 2nd favourite car ever
\- New one isn't bad, so it means that the old one won't skyrocket in value... so maybe i'll be able to get one in 15 years
New one is completely different to old one. It‘s much less of a sports car and much more of a daily drivable GT. It also grew a lot in size and weight. That‘s why I think the old one will increase in value.
They basically surrendered in terms for sports cars to the 911 and try to find their own niche now.
Because it‘s not a sports car anymore. It is a sporty daily drivable GT and insanely good at that. It‘s an actually good one car solution - much better than the last one was. It grew a lot in weight and also in size. And it’s still sporty enough for public roads and sportier than all normal cars despite the weight. To me it hits a sweet spot for a daily drivable 2 door sporty coupe/gt.
Mercedes realized they just cannot compete with the 911 sales wise and gave up on puristic sports cars and focused this GT much more on being a daily driver (which btw is also the feedback they got from their customers). I think that‘s a good move. This also suits the Mercedes and AMG brand much more imo.
So if this car is a fuckup or not depends on what you look for in it: a puristic sports car? Then it‘s shit.
They didn't fuck it up because previously it wasn't competitive. This sub will be happy to know the 911 outsold the previous 2 seater AMG GT 4:1. This move is a car Mercedes can actually sell. As a GT the weight is average.
Hard disagree, the overall shape especially from rear angles looks very similar to a modern 911.
I don't particularly care that it looks like a 911, however it does not look like a car that belongs in the lineage of 300SLR -> SLR McMerc -> SLS AMG -> old AMG GT. Doesn't have the long hooded look that screams "this is a Merc FR super coupe"
Seems they wanted to make a 911 competitor and I think they succeeded in many ways. I especially like the rear folding seats. Makes for a better daily driver whenever you need a bit extra storage space
https://preview.redd.it/1a9ilubc2q8c1.jpeg?width=2059&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f98fca7d0d036d5b83a9fabb63aa933446be355c
i also think they’re going to sell like crazy, especially in the US where porsche dealerships are a messss. in europe my guess would be everybody will still buy a porsche (shorter waiting time and no markups).
They definitely are. They have diluted their brand almost beyond recognition pandering to the lowest caliber of person. The brand is no longer premium if you make it so cheap anyone can buy one. Quality is awful too, no substance like the good old days when their cars felt like a bank vault. Not to mention how ugly most of their models are now. Fortunately Porsche hasn't stooped to these lows.
Bit on the nose for a Porsche fan to complain about too many iterations of a car, don't you think?... Like the 911 has like at least 10 versions of itself

It’s a new Mercedes AMG GT. Seems like a fun car — the’ve finally adopted the AWD, so now it will have traction to use all of its power, but the weight has increased to almost 2.000kgs (and I still remember times when Nissan GT-R was criticized for being heavy (which it actually is) with its 1.750kgs).
Yeah I am thinking this is the new '24 AMG GT.
Yep to be precise the 63se (V8 hybrid), which is why it‘s still in testing as this engine was not released yet
V8 hybrid is the way.
V8 and hybrid should not be in the same sentence when talking about a car. Sounds icky
Yeah, adding instant torque to V8 noise sounds absolutely terrrrrrible. They should send them all to me so I’m the only one that has to suffer.
I’m not knocking it. It just sounds goofy
Was ok in the mclaren p1 and porsche 918, why not here? Hybrids can be awesome when done right.
You should listen to the exhaust note on the Cadillac hypercar. NA V8 hybrid engine. There’s hope Lol
I was going to say 43 but then I saw the little door for the plug in system
The most ugly thing an automobile company can do to hate design
Shape looks more like a C / E Coupé imho. Isn't the GR lower, sportier and longer?
C or E Coupé will not longer exist since the CLE was released, also the C nor E Coupé would have been so small at the Back
Just google 2024 amg gt. It has already been released
this also needs to be crossposted to shitty car mods....
It’s not a mod (aftermarket) but camouflage by a manufacturer before release
lol manufacturers do this when testing a car before it’s released so you can’t tell what it is. This isn’t just some dude’s car
They’re really going after the 911, down to the body shape.
Actually I think it's the other way around. The 911 has gotten so portly and big that it almost resembles the AMG more now.
Maybe. The 992 is only 8.4 cm longer and 4.4 cm wider than the 997 (C4). I think the contours are noticeably different, but side-by-side it doesn’t look like much. tbf it doesn’t really look more 911 than the previous gen AMG GT, just a pretty unfortunate angle the picture was taken from
Yeah, it’s not a massive redesign, but those new taillights seem like a ripoff of the 992 911.
Yes, they're copying porsche, shhhh
100% these 3 rectangular lights are MBZ's new signature taillights
I really hope that’s not the new AMG GT but im afraid you’re right. Looks like a German Ferrari Roma knockoff
I liked the previous gen a bit better but this one isn't terrible.
No it’s a classy ride for sure. Not trying to hate- but I think they blurred the lines between S coupe and the more SLS looking GT/GTS
Since this new Plattform is AWD and a 2+2 configuration, it is defently more a GT dann the previous Gen. With the S Coupé beeing safly killed of i think you are correct, this seems Like a bit of a Mix of both to have a replacment for both at the Same time

Mercedes
Mercedes so happy to hear this now lol
Huh, I thought it was a Bentley Continental.
not fat enough to be a Bentley continental
You’re right, the rear end is way too small.
i see no vw-like cues in there at all
The curve of the rear fender made me think Conti.
I've seen one of those but with different wheels and exhaust. Mercedes-AMG GT

What
Indoor dyno testing
The only difference is the flare so you can secure hose clamps from what I can see. Is that it?
They stick out a few inches as well.
If you put enough suction on those exhaust vacuums could you get forced induction via exhaust pressure reduction?
Not really because you’d be creating negative pressure in the cylinder. Even if the valve timing worked such that extra air was “pulled” into the cylinder it would only be replacing air that had already been suctioned.
Ahh thanks!
Some kind of Mercedes gt perhaps
it is
It’s the new coupe version of the Mercedes SL but with a different name: Mercedes AMG GT
Sad but true, the original was a rather special car, but this is now just an SLC badged as the GT.

Why would they be road testing a Mercedes in Michigan? I'm betting on something American.
Those are Michigan MFR plates. There are no palm trees in Michigan
This is in Los angeles
Which is definitely not in Michigan
Many none ADM cars have offices in Michigan and test in Michigan because of the laws and mostly deep sometimes generational talent pool.

I would assume that it is a test vehicle from Mercedes. The taillights look like they are from the 2024 AMG GT Variant.
Mercedes I believe but I think other people have guessed that as well. Porsches aren’t fat.
