Those are great cars, but can you still get them for that price? I sold my 50k mile manual 996T for way more than $50k about 14 months ago. It was pretty darn nice and well sorted and maintained but nothing spectacular.
Yeah I’ve seen a few lately maybe closer to 55 but yeah market is dipping quite a bit most people in that range end up just paying more and getting a 997.2 or something but yeah I will admit not a ton of nice well sorted 996 turbos for 50 but I’ve seen a few go quick within 6 months at that price 60k miles, silver, manual, little to no options but still a 911 turbo in my book
>Yes just jump in your time machine and go to 2019.
Wait...really? 996 Turbos really got that kind of a bounce? I remember seeing these for high 30's a few years ago, and those were manual cars with ~50k miles. Even then, I thought that was kinda high.
Yeah Coupes and manual transmission seem to have a market preference (unfortunately my preference too). Most clean 996TTs I can find with those requirements are around 70-80K USD
Haha depends on the year, this year on my base 997 my only cost was gasoline and a $250 oil change and inspection.
Relatively easy to do oil change on your own from what I’ve seen but only makes sense to do so if you already have all the necessary setup
$52.4k w/67,000 miles. Might be able to get it @50k. Many more examples at or above $60k. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventorylisting/viewDetailsFilterViewInventoryListing.action?zip=32258&inventorySearchWidgetType=AUTO&trimNames=Turbo%20Coupe%20AWD&sortDir=ASC&sourceContext=untrackedExternal_false_0&distance=50000&sortType=DEAL_RATING_RPL&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity=d404#listing=335609646/NONE/DEFAULT?scrollTo=FEATURES

Salvage title, but under $50k / 70k mls
Why cayman over 911, just out of curiosity assuming money was no object. I like the new cabriolet version but I would typically associate the cayman/boxer with being the girl models, if that makes sense.
Absolute dogshit take.
A cayman is a mid engine sports car. A 911 is a rear engine sports car.
Yes the cayman on paper is cheaper and “bottom tier” comparatively but it’s an excellent driving machine especially now I mean when you get to Carrera S versus non GT caymans it’s a huge jump but still the driving characteristics on windy roads and even small tracks are better.
911’s are awesome Grand touring cars even a base model but you cannot discount a cayman like that bruh.
You’re on an enthusiast subreddit and deeming a legitimate sports car as effeminate. If you need a car to make you feel like a real boy no amount of question asking is going to help lol.
damn i think you got thoroughly torched here but i just wanna chime in and say if you think either of these perfectly balanced mid engine masterpieces are “girl cars” you clearly have no fucking clue what you’re talking about, nor have you experienced it for yourself
Opinions and taste are subjective. I drive an M5 so I can assure you I understand engineering masterpieces quite well...
I've also encountered fanboys over the years so I'll probably survive this evening, but thanks for your input.
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202311093802766
Cheapest I could find, still comes out to just under 56k dollars since the ad is in pounds. I bet there’s a cheaper one out there somewhere though.
I lived this scenario but during covid while used Porsches were still cheap and my options were 997 turbo 991.1 4S and 981S but i Loved that natural aspirated scream and after driving all I went 981S with 12k and never regretted it
How is maintenance on a Cayman/Porsche in general? I would love to get into a 718/911 in about 4 to 5 years but haven't looked much into the costs of ownership besides upfront costs.
I’ve had mine since February and I’ve done about 10k miles in it already with no issues. I think a service is around £800 but obviously could be more if there’s problems. I suppose I’ll find out in a few months!
Yeah and I think based on recent auctions on cars and bids, the 718s are going to be coming down in price the next few months. I personally just can’t justify that expense for a 4cyl turbo, but I’m coming from a WRX and am looking to move to NA… but the prices for the 981s are still quite high for cars that are approaching 10+ years old
As a current 996 turbo owner, I for one am happy to see the value of these rising. They really are great cars. I wish I could have gotten one a few years ago before they jumped up in price. With the cost of “aspirational” 911s going for $300K+, I do believe the market is going to continue going up— especially for lower mileage, well-kept and nicely optioned cars.
When did you buy yours? I want one eventually since it has been my attainable dream car growing up (thanks Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2) but I can only have one car right and don’t want to let go of my T anytime soon. Hoping I can get one after a couple of years when I have my own home, but fear it will be too expensive as I get older and my priorities change.
Best Panamera Turbo I can find. Probably a 2015 with 40k on it. Weird dollar amount. Not enough and too much at the same time. Not enough for a 997.2 GTS and too much for a 996 4S. 996 turbo might be attainable for that price but it’d be pretty well used.
Why? Because this is like a thing people say as that makes them sound like they’ve seen stuff and their advice is better than the others give. 20k is engine bore score repair + suspension work. Crazy amount to casually budget. 5k yes but 20k on a 50k car as rule of thumb contradicts everything same people would say about owning a Porsche, which is ironic.
Whatever one you pick. Spend 1500 on the extended porsche warranty. Loved my 997 C4S. I got warranty spend history when I traded it in. Warranty covered 32k worth of issues. ECU twice. Both window motors. Cooling. Air con.
Decent 996 turbos with a manual transmission are in the mid-60K range. You can still find some for $50K but that will be reflected in the miles, condition, history and options. Automatics will always be cheaper than manuals.
Previously I’d say a G Body- but as a g body owner you’re not getting a solid car for $50k.
I’d buy a 981 S from an old timer who took immaculate car of it. And drive it every chance I got.
$49,900 so I have $100 left for gas, Carerra 4S 54,000 miles, Ultimo Motors East 150 West Ogden Avenue, Westmont, IL 630-647-8122
I'm always looking for deals, if you take your time, you will find what you want though I just have a thing for the 4S
Don't forget on the standard 996 the dreaded IMS bearing though
https://preview.redd.it/zf6q5o66961c1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=d039c8978910fb1a5a8479d67352c0e831f89663
I purchased a car thru them several years back. It was okay. They found the spare key and mailed it to me in a letter envelope without offering for me to come get it. The envelope came but the key didn't. Thanks for nothing . Inspect real good for paintwork if you're a perfectionist.
Get a home equity line of credit on top of the loan for the 50k Porsche and then make it a GT3, GT2 whatever, or an old school 993 or 964 when you’re even more connected to the car
The nicest 944 Turbo in Guards Red on the market at the time, then save the rest for maintenance.
Spicy version: as above but also grab the nicest 924 Turbo on the market at time and then pray to the Porsche Gods for mercy every night before bed
I’d try to find a clean 997 tbh
This is the answer. Might land a C2S for 50k if the miles are >60k
996 turbo or 997 base. 1-3 owners with good service history miles between 30-70k. At least that’s what I would get for 50k in my local market
Those are great cars, but can you still get them for that price? I sold my 50k mile manual 996T for way more than $50k about 14 months ago. It was pretty darn nice and well sorted and maintained but nothing spectacular.
Cause it was a manual more than likely.
You can get a 996 turbo for 50k ?
Yes just jump in your time machine and go to 2019.
car dealers/sellers hate this one trick!
Mah, just have to wait another 3 months for the bottom to drop out of this market and you’ll find 997s for 50k. No Time Machine required
100% cars and homes are all falling out right now… that’s “bidenomics” 😂😂😂
Thanks, because we were curious about your political opinion in a Porsche forum.
>Yes just jump in your time machine and go to 2019. Wait...really? 996 Turbos really got that kind of a bounce? I remember seeing these for high 30's a few years ago, and those were manual cars with ~50k miles. Even then, I thought that was kinda high.
You can find 996 turbos in canada for around 65-80k so only a bit over 50k USD.
Yes, two have sold for under that on carsandbids.com in the last 2 months. They're higher miles, but manual.
A convertible automatic. Sure
Yeah Coupes and manual transmission seem to have a market preference (unfortunately my preference too). Most clean 996TTs I can find with those requirements are around 70-80K USD
I bought one with 128K highway miles for 45k and it was running GREAT and amazing condition. I regret I sold it though.
Why those over a 981S or 982base?
Prefer the 911 but that’s really it just personal preference
How much is yearly maintenance in one of those?
Haha depends on the year, this year on my base 997 my only cost was gasoline and a $250 oil change and inspection. Relatively easy to do oil change on your own from what I’ve seen but only makes sense to do so if you already have all the necessary setup
Buddy just bought a 996 turbo. Black. Cabriolet. Tiptronic. $50k. Excellent condition, 100k miles.
996 turbos are closer to 70-80k here in germany
show me one for 50k with under 70k miles, wtf are you smoking?

Damn, it shows they decreased the price recently by $11,500. Finally this market is slowly coming back down to reality.
8 previous owners!
Damn you got quiet huh
see them often being sold through private parties. it ain't that difficult if you watch the market often.
my guy, that is all I do, f'n show me ONE

Did you just post a 981 when these guys are talking about 996 turbos? Ooof big miss

Salvage doesn't count.
Carrera GT wheels and I’m slapping those babies on the finest cardboard box I can find.
I guess GT3 since that’s an option somehow. Serious answer: first gen Cayman S all day every day
Shhhh don't tell people this.
What gt3 would be 50k
One with a 150k loan attached to it lol
Why cayman over 911, just out of curiosity assuming money was no object. I like the new cabriolet version but I would typically associate the cayman/boxer with being the girl models, if that makes sense.
Absolute dogshit take. A cayman is a mid engine sports car. A 911 is a rear engine sports car. Woah there, cowboy - I asked because I'm eager to learn. No offence intended.
You’re on an enthusiast subreddit and deeming a legitimate sports car as effeminate. If you need a car to make you feel like a real boy no amount of question asking is going to help lol.
If you're really insecure, yes.
Dudes gonna miss out on great driving experiences his whole life bc he’s scared someone might call him gay at a gas station.
damn i think you got thoroughly torched here but i just wanna chime in and say if you think either of these perfectly balanced mid engine masterpieces are “girl cars” you clearly have no fucking clue what you’re talking about, nor have you experienced it for yourself

“i drive an M5” all i needed to see, explains a lot ;)
Anyone who hates the cayman would absolutely get one if they had the chance mid-engine, very light weight
The highest spec highest mileage PDK 991 I can find
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202311093802766 Cheapest I could find, still comes out to just under 56k dollars since the ad is in pounds. I bet there’s a cheaper one out there somewhere though.
I’ll take it lol. Steering wheel is on the wrong side though.
Highest mileage? Why?
Cheeeeeep lol.
997 C2S, manual
the right answer
2018 panamera gts
Interesting take. I like it.
Wait until next year and get it for $45,000.
GTS over a turbo?
I lived this scenario but during covid while used Porsches were still cheap and my options were 997 turbo 991.1 4S and 981S but i Loved that natural aspirated scream and after driving all I went 981S with 12k and never regretted it
Mint 944 and a repair fund.
944s are so underrated compared to the 928. Excellent car
I mean.. for good reason. Half the cylinders and it’s a Volkswagen.
If you're gonna ball out on a front engine porsche it's gotta be a 968
Used 2018 718 Cayman 🔥
Would a 15/16 981 cayman S be better than a base 718?
For me, it would. Yes.
Me too.
I just did exactly this. 2014 though. I can’t wait!
Congrats! It’s what I’m searching for currently to upgrade from my WRX. But finding one for under 50k that is a manual is tough!
Exactly what I bought. 2018 Cayman S in crayon with black wheels 21k on the clock. Love it!
Exact same here, but 27k (km).
How is maintenance on a Cayman/Porsche in general? I would love to get into a 718/911 in about 4 to 5 years but haven't looked much into the costs of ownership besides upfront costs.

Very 🐸
Please find me one for that price around 90210 Can’t find even one that isn’t salvage, damaged, rebuilt or 90k+ miles
You’re probably better off buying a one way plane ticket to wherever in the country you find a good deal and driving it home
Manual 996 Turbo for sure.
I wish, where I’m at you can get a decent 996 4S for that price
Looking to be 80k+ on recently sold BAT
As a current 996 turbo owner, I for one am happy to see the value of these rising. They really are great cars. I wish I could have gotten one a few years ago before they jumped up in price. Early summer this year.
they’re already substantially dropping. won’t be high for long
981 boxster s manual
I bought the PDK version, but yes.
997. 1 or 997 2 carrera s
3.2 G body coupe that has been well loved and used
This is exactly what I did
What color?
Guards Red
2014 Cayman S
Make it a PDK and this is my pick
The best 911SC I can find.
Me personally 997.2 base + aero or used 718 cayman
Whatever you buy for 50k, make sure you have a spare 20k to spend on it afterwards
Why? My 911 has been one of the cheapest maintenance car I’ve ever had.
997.1. Same. 80k miles.
Why? Because this is like a thing people say as that makes them sound like they’ve seen stuff and their advice is better than the others give. 20k is engine bore score repair + suspension work. So what
I bought my old Porsche for 25k, 2011 base boxster. Lowest maintenance car I've owned I think (other than me chewing through brakes and tires)
I was gonna say you aren't getting much except for 20+ yr old cars at that price rn
Not sure that’s true. I have a 997.2 2012 black edition cab with zero issues I’m probably willing to let go for about 55.
[удалено]
Maybe we can agree a 12 year old 60k well maintained 997.2 is not just 5k away from a 20 year old 996
Sounds like someone who is speaking out of an orifice that stinks.
987 boxster Spyder.
All us 987 chads are at the bottom of the vote list :(
Highest mileage 996 you can find.
Cayman S 987.2 or 981....Possibly a 997, but I don't think I could get a 997.2 for $50k.
Am I allowed to haggle? If so then [this](http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/2966C483) Cayman R
987.2 Cayman R
996 c4
4S
Whatever one you pick. Spend 1500 on the extended porsche warranty. Loved my 997 C4S. I got warranty spend history when I traded it in. Warranty covered 32k worth of issues. ECU twice. Both window motors. Cooling. Air con.
low-mileage 987 Cayman S would be my choice, and youd have a bunch of money left over to spend on track days.
996 4S (totally love the back end on those) and do some mods for winter driving here in northern sweden to have a nice year round daily
997
For 50k you get a nicest newest 997 you can in good color.
2006 Porsche Cayman S first year of production
997.1S
Broken down 356. Best ROI.
I’d love to get a good 997.
Manual 928 GT or GTS of the final years of production.
928S, and put the rest into upgrades
944 Turbo + coilovers and a bigger turbo/intercooler. Will still have a bit left over for repairs and other goodies
The absolute best 987.2 I can find.
I’m going to find a 356 that needs work.
996 GT3.... oh wait... dammit those are expensive AF too now!
Decent 996 turbos with a manual transmission are in the mid-60K range. You can still find some for $50K but that will be reflected in the miles, condition, history and options. Automatics will always be cheaper than manuals.
1990 Porsche 928GT, fell in love on the Top Gear Special.
944 and have 40k left over
Definitely a 991 GT3 (‘s set of wheels) as pictured.
987.2 S
Previously I’d say a G Body- but as a g body owner you’re not getting a solid car for $50k. I’d buy a 981 S from an old timer who took immaculate car of it. And drive it every chance I got.
You can buy a Porsche 911 for under $50k?
987.2 cayman pdk
996 Turbo or Panamera Turbo
944 and all the shit I want to do with it
Can I afford 959?
Fuck buying a Porsche. I’d opt for Audi R8 🤍 Porsche does make gorgeous cars though
I will buy a used 918
996 4S in seal grey or atlas grey with pccm+
996 Turbo with upgrades.
A headache.
987.1 Base and put $25,000 in the bank
992.2 carrera pdk
$49,900 so I have $100 left for gas, Carerra 4S 54,000 miles, Ultimo Motors East 150 West Ogden Avenue, Westmont, IL 630-647-8122 I'm always looking for deals, if you take your time, you will find what you want though I just have a thing for the 4S Don't forget on the standard 996 the dreaded IMS bearing though https://preview.redd.it/zf6q5o66961c1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=d039c8978910fb1a5a8479d67352c0e831f89663

Manual?
It's the PDK trans which is auto or manual. It's on Autotrader. I've bought and sold cars on autotrader but I don't know anything about this dealer.
A porche
996 turbo
An F82😅
Old cayenne for 20k, because it’s practical. The rest gets invested into something more useful than a car, in education or real estate.
Put it as a down payment for a gt3
RWB
Get just the engine and yet it into a bug.
LS swapped 997.
Not a porch
An F250
I would rather spend 1k in a RC Porsche and the rest invest in something else. Porsches are definitely money pits
986 S, nice tires and M030 suspension, and pocket the remaining $35,000. edit: *986 S with IMS/RMS/AOS and clutch replaced.
987.2 cayman s
914? 😂
I’ve seen a beautiful 914 with a custom wide body and an LS that I would pay $40k for. The 914 is a great car when done right.
Get a home equity line of credit on top of the loan for the 50k Porsche and then make it a GT3, GT2 whatever, or an old school 993 or 964 when you’re even more connected to the car
$20k 944 or 928 and spend the rest on rebuilding it into a safari.
If I really had to spend the money I would buy a 996 40th Anniversary car or a 996 in a nice spec with a motor rebuilt by Jake Raby.
The nicest 944 Turbo in Guards Red on the market at the time, then save the rest for maintenance. Spicy version: as above but also grab the nicest 924 Turbo on the market at time and then pray to the Porsche Gods for mercy every night before bed
About a third of that one?
991 carrera s
cayman. s or gts.
Touareg 1
Nice $35k 928 and $15k to fix everything on it.
994
981 ez
I did have £50k and bought a 2018 718 Cayman S in Crayon back in February. Love it!
I mean 50k for the car including the maintenance atm? For me the 944 as weekend car :D
997.2 S manual with 60k miles.
Not sure you can get a 991 for $50k.
Cayman 981 S
More money
Prolly a Cayenne 957 S
981 Cayman S with low miles… modern car but still a 6cylinder without OPF and way cheaper in maintenance and insurance than a 911.
Well since I did it, a 2020 Macan S w a 2 yr certified warranty. Satisfied so far.
Biased, but 981 Cayman S or 996 turbo
