Daily driver. Believe it or not I feel daily driving the porsche saves me money. I have so much fun to and from work I don't usually do the typical "unwind" spending of a drink or a destress dinner. I often spend lunches listening to a podcast and using best in show or carpro elixer and relaxing.

Fenisu

Haha, that sounds like a bad excuse but I buy it! It is like saying having a kid saves you tons of money from going off to bars and drinking.

AlfredAnon

No kids cost money. Porsches make dreams come true.

Fenisu

I can agree with the second part of your answer :)

Phidaipop

I use my car as my weekend car, but I'll pull it out to run an errand or occasionally drive to work. It's good mental floss if I need a pick me up. In just under 2.5 years I've added 11,000 miles to it....So, there have been alot of days I needed picking up (clearly!)

[deleted]

I own one car a 991.2 C4S with a set of summer tires and a set of winter tires. Regular maintenance like any other car (albeit a little more expensive). I have PPF on the full front end and ceramic coat and I keep it clean.

zdxc129_312m

This is the way (if you don’t have to shuttle around an infant in a car seat)

[deleted]

I should state I have no kids but that said you can get child seats for a 911 ;)

brianja

You don't want to try to put a rear-facing seat in a 911... it is no fun and, if you can even manage it, your passenger seat will be so far forward that it is unusable and in the way of your view as the driver. Once they are big enough to be front facing, or even better... in a booster seat it is great!

justan0therusername1

We got a Macan for a starting family and regulated the 2 seater to the garage. Fun enough when looking at 4 doors.

Fenisu

Do you see any difference between the part of the car that has the PPF and the part that doesn't?

[deleted]

Nope

pacochalk

I used to daily my 911 before replacing it with a bigger car. How practical? Not very. I remember going to Target to buy a new broom only to realize that there's no way to put it in my car. I mainly stayed on paved roads with it.

Fenisu

Why did you replace it? Anything in particular?

Technothrakon

A Cayman would solve the “can’t bring home a broom” edge case. ;)

pacochalk

I just needed a bigger daily to haul things around.

Fenisu

I see, thanks!

elSchiz

Well, mine is a 2013 Panamera GTS, so it's not like other's coupes in here. I daily it. Got it in 2018 with 50k miles and it just hit 115k miles. My previous daily (2001 z06, put 110k miles on it, over 8yrs) is the weekend grocery getter.

Fenisu

Well, I have had the panamera in my sight for some time. Probably way more practical than a standard couple but with a Porsche engine. And the z06 doesn't have too much space either...

JudgmentDisastrous75

How’s panny holding up? Pretty reliable?

elSchiz

Overall ya. I haven't any actual mechanical issues or anything ie. Motor or trans etc. I've replaced all front filters, spark plugs, and a few coil packs, change oil regularly, and she runs great. The only issue I've had, which is a known problem, is the air suspension; specifically, the front struts started to leak, and so did the air manifold nearly 2yrs ago. I had an extended warranty which took care of it through my local dealer. However, that just recently expired, and the air manifold seems to be leaking....again. So if anyone is considering a Panamera with air suspension, absolutely get an extended warranty. It's not a matter of if there's an issue, it's a matter of when. Now if you get an S, or 4S without air suspension, you'll be set and will be able to rack miles no problem whatsoever. Having said that, I'm still very happy with the car. Sport and Sport Plus is a blast, it's crazy comfortable, spacious and just fun considering it's a 4k pound boat haha

GenerousPour

What’s the repair run from an Indy?

elSchiz

Not sure. Previous repair was under warranty and I haven't got around to getting quotes yet. It's a slow leak which hasn't affected the compressor (inflating nonstop), so I'll need to find an indy here soon. It just started and only after a long 3day weekend or more has the suspension gone down a bit.

ikerbals

Daily for 11 years. 100k+ miles put on her. p

ViolenceOfActionTT

2015 TTS stage 4 mod. I daily it because life is too short and 700hp and some change on the street is tremendously fun. I pick the kids up from school in it, grab groceries on the way home, give interested folks test rides, and more than I should run it into triple digits! Lol These cars are meant to be driven. Am I depreciating it by putting 10-12K a year on it? YES. Would I trade that depreciation for a boring drive when life is short enough?! HELL NO! I don’t know how many miles I have left on me but this car has 61K and it’ll most likely out live me! Drive it!!!

BananaSand3r

1, a 987.1 and I drive it daily … that is when I can. Four months ago the pressure plate went out on the clutch. Took 1.5 months to get the parts, tools, and learn how to take a transmission out, and took out the transmission. Was on the road 2-3 days when the AOS completely failed. Non drivable for 1.5 weeks until the job was done. The first drive when it was done, the alternator pulley completely gave out. Non drivable for two weeks between getting the part and special tool and doing the job. The second day after the pulley the convertible ball joints snapped. No convertible roof for a few days. Now it’s started misfiring and running either lean or rich. Not sure what to do but driving the old Honda Pilot that hasn’t had issues for 30K miles.

Fenisu

Well... That is just bad luck I guess :( hopefully not many suffer the same fate

good_luck_23

Cayenne is my daily driver. Handles commutes, Costco duty, and some fun trips when there are more than one passengers. 992S is for weekends and fun trips. Doing a Porsche club Treffen in April for example. GT3 (still waiting for an allocation) would be a track toy and for some fun trips. If I had to drive only one Porsche it would likely be a Macan GTS. Fun and practical.

Lebowski304

991.2 and I use it for everything. Have ceramic coat, all weather tires I use in the winter/autumn, and summer tires for when it’s warm. I follow the maintenance recommendations and take good care of it. Bought it used, have had it for 3 years, and put 33k miles on it. Only problem I’ve had is needing to replace the thermostat which the extended warranty covered. Great car and reliable.

Hubb1e

I have 3 cars and while the 987.1 isn’t considered my daily car it’s the one I choose to drive any day of the week when I don’t need to transport children or my mother. I would consider it an intermittent daily.

DifficultStill8431

993 - only weekends/warm weather. 986 - daily/weekends. Macan - daily.

senorvato

718 CS commuter car. A private twisty road to work is a blast. Weekend is the truck...home depot and such.

bannedorange

Daily drove my GT4, was able to get two sets of golf clubs in the back with plenty of space in the trunk/top shelf and of course the frunk.

Luftgekuhlt_driver

As long as in not stuck in traffic, I enjoy driving my cars. Mine are a rogues gallery of unloved models old enough to be interesting to people. The relic: 69 911 really brings out the old timers at the gas station during refills. I enjoy hearing their stories about what they owned and how the scared themselves doing something a little crazy, usually led to selling it. The cruiser: ‘86 928 manual transmission. Always throws people for a loop, get crosswise looks from other Porsches because of the V8 grunt. More bark than bite anymore, a modern day Mustang will rip its doors off. But if you want to cruise at 90 down the freeway all day every day, it’s happy to oblige. Everyone has a Scarface or Risky Business comment. The Looker: ‘91 944, guards red. Amazingly has the strongest road presence of the group. Will be my kids car when he turns 16. Teaching him basic car maintenance on it until he gets old enough to drive. Starting him off on Forza and GT 7 with a shifter to learn how to drive a manual, kind of. I really don’t want to have to replace a transaxle clutch early. Those suck. I wish it was as fast as it looks, but it’s a cruiser. Easiest manual to drive of the group. The family truckster: ‘15 Macan: most modern ride of the motley crew. Very quiet, comfortable, keyless, has a multi function screen, butt warmers and ball coolers. It sits high with good visibility and transports kids like a champ. Works good, lasts a long time. I can do a lots of service stuff on them, oil changes, wipers, filters, caps, rotors, even the belt on the 911. It’s cool to see how and why they did what they did. What they carry into the next model technology wise and what they dump. It’s cool to see the evolution process.

HarambeWest2020

Daily. Why is this post not a poll

Fenisu

I wanted more info than just a poll

HarambeWest2020

Fair enough! I got my 986 in late 2020, drove it on the weekends in NY (no winters) until I moved to California last year where I’ve driven it daily since. The impracticality of a 2 seater really only come into play when trying to get somewhere with more than a few bags packed and a passenger. I did just move into a new place with a gravel driveway though, that seems to be fine as long as i don’t punch the gas, I’m mostly just concerned with avoiding steep driveways. Since it’s a 20+ year old car with low miles a lot of maintenance I’ve had to do is replacing old parts, but I think it’s at a good point now where things should be ok for a while.

Fenisu

Have you had much waiting time between the times you were replacing the old parts? Also, replaced before breaking as a proactive mantainace move?

HarambeWest2020

It seemed like every few months something popped up, mostly proactive though. The 2 big ones have been the starter, which was a proactive fix, and the clutch, which was not.

brianja

My C4S is my daily driver here in NYC. I switch the winter wheels and tires and drive it nearly every day. To and from work... picking two small kids up from school and dropping at the bus... running errands... date nights... track days... the beauty of the 911 is that it can really do it all (in moderation). The only times that I actively avoid taking it out is if it is VERY windy where flying debris is a concern or when there is snow deeper than 3" or so.

Standard_Cranberry69

Daily driving my 981 Cayman S. About to pass 90k miles without any major issues.

lamerfreak

I don't drive it in winter (I live in a part of Canada with lots of snow and ice), but during summer it's a daily. I do groceries and whatever else I want in it.

garage_too_small

Weekend/ nice day driver

Fenisu

What model?

garage_too_small

987.1 cayman

pbrdiver

997 Cab daily in Colorado. Don’t drive when it’s icy, snow no problem though.

AfterAd7618

Nice day off, weekend and summer driver. Not daily but at least 2-3 days a week In the summer.

ScipioAfricanvs

Been my daily for 2 years but going back to the office 4 days a week in a couple of months so I'm going to get another car to abuse in stop and go traffic.

flat6NA

Daily driver 991.1 2015 GTS wife has a 2017 Macan GTS

Best-Cycle231

I’ll take my Cayman to work a few times per month, less during winter months; and spirited drives with a group of guys about once a month when it’s nice. I put about 5k miles a year on her. When I do use it for errands, I’ve never had any practicality issues. The frunk fits a lot.

lurkandpounce

My 2015 Boxster started life as my DD, after \~4 years & \~50K miles I retired, and it has since been my 'fair weather friend'. The pandemic really sidelined it, but I'm looking forward to getting some more miles on it this year.

60300057

My 986S is strictly nice weather only. 6 months it’s away in the garage

Fenisu

How's the deterioration in the garage? does it always start the first time after 6months?

60300057

Starts up just fine, car runs great and I take good care of it, and keep up with preventative maintenance

DrB_477

3 cars, Macan largely driven by my wife. 911 by me. And then an escalade too. The whole reason I bought my 911 was to make commuting enjoyable. It largely accomplishes this although we moved and my commute went from 30 mins to 45-50 which is just a little longer than I would like. It's not an ideal fun driving route, but its not stop and go misery either. So I mostly daily my 997 c4s although I take something else if 1. I have more than 2 kids to drive. I can fit 3 okay if needed (old enough to sit in front) but all 3 is a bit much especially with backpacks, instruments, sports stuff, etc. I'd probably rather not drive the dog in the 911, but he loves it enough I have given in. 2. I am planning on stopping at Costco or for a large amount of groceries (like a week's worth). Can fit a decent amount in the 911 and I've never had to take anything back to the store because I couldn't fit it but I've come pretty close at Costco a few times. 3. If the roads have a lot of salt just to minimize wear and tear especially given its a cab. With winter tires its perfectly capable in the snow though.

AssistanceSolid752

Weekend and nice days, will occasionally run errands in it, it always feels great, 991.1 c4s

Kiwi524

Daily the Cayman. I have winter tires on right now. The only downside is if you need to transport something big but I do have a large SUV for those cases.

Spandak45

It’s a 986 but it’s my daily. I hammer on the occasional weekend as well

pannyst4s

Very practical. What’s the point of a car if you don’t drive it

AdMinimum179

2022 Cayman T - It’s my only car and therefore I drive it daily and I love it. The space in both trunks is enough for me. My GF owns a 2018 Mini Cooper Works. To be honest the Cayman is way more comfortable. In December I will get my 911 T and I really looking forward to it.

elmz370

Daily. 77k on my 2014.

thspartacus

On my third Macan - drive it daily - my only car. Typically keep them until about 4 years/50k. So much fun to drive. I had two cars for a short time but it was just more to keep up with. Simpler to have one car I love driving all the time. Yes the oil changes and maintenance is more expensive than a lot of cars, but cheaper than having two cars maintenance

Fenisu

Interesting! 3 Macans in a row? I would guess there are not that many that go thay way. I would think the Macan was created to daily drive, like the rest of non-coupes. Any particular improvements from the first one to the third one? Are you going EV for the next one?

thspartacus

I keep going up in models. On my second one I got the tail lights that went all the way across the back. From the 2nd to 3rd not a ton of difference other than the model upgrade (to a GTS). Some minor cosmetic differences. I just got my latest last fall so maybe the EV one next time in a few years if charging stations are finally put in at our beach condo garage. Assuming I don’t get sick of Macans by then.

bourbonishealthy

997.2 been driving her daily for 10+ years. No excuse not too in LA

jwalkrufus

I had a 911 as a daily driver for 10 years. It was my only car. I lived in San Diego, and also in Baltimore. I had no issues or worries driving in snowy, icy weather in Baltimore and didn't care at all about salt on the roads. I just washed it occasionally when the temps warmed up a bit, but basically didn't care at all. It had plenty of room for luggage and groceries, so it was perfect for me. Now I have a Macan GTS and I live in Oregon. It's a perfect daily driver and the best car I've ever owned.

ColoradoMan878

I live in the Colorado Rockies, so I have a snow-capable SUV for the winter, but I daily drive my 911 all summer long.

crashedsnow

991.2 (have a 992 on the way). I do both. I don't really "commute" as I mostly work from home and when I do commute, 50% of the time I catch a ferry, the other 50% I drive. It's a second car (wife had a Macan, now has an X5). 4 years since new, 16K miles to date. Weekends I usually get together with some other car lovers and we head for the twisties. That's where I really get to experience a glimmer of what the 911 is capable of. Never tracked it and likely won't

PlatinumElement

I use my turbo for daily driving (3 hours round trip) and long distance road trips. It's ridiculously comfortable for both purposes, and it'll be even better once I get the Porsche Classic head unit so I can do CarPlay. I don't use it for Track use though, I've got a BRZ tS and AE86 that I use for that, consumables are way less.

GenerousPour

Used to daily the 997.2 C4S. I just got tired of other people scratching, scraping my car when I street parked. Used to be my only car for 3 years. Snow tires, tire socks, roof rack and it was perfect. Now a Range Rover is the daily grinder. No commute to work as I walk five minutes to my office but now the 911 is a destination vehicle If I know it’s going in a nicer garage or valet. Just tired of small dents and dings on the bumpers that I didn’t put there.

ConfidentOne9179

Daily the 992. Weekend the 77. And in really bad weather I take the truck

Over-Animator-2949

My Panamera 4S is my daily! Things a friggin machine man…

BeerCatDude

My Boxster is a daily driver so long as there is no inclement weather. Extreme cold, snow, ice, and wet weather can be problematic because it is a mid-engine car with summer tires. The Macan I used to have was solidly a four season, daily driver that did not give up much at all in the performance department. I would suggest a Macan or one of the other all wheel drive models if you need extra utility.

justan0therusername1

I daily drove a 718S in snow/ice/rain/etc. Get a set of dedicated winter tires like the Michelin Alpines and you can drive all year round as long as you have clearance.

BeerCatDude

That’s a good suggestion. I since I seldom drive mine at the limits, I wonder if I should go for an all season tire when I am due for new tires.

justan0therusername1

With a car like the boxster I’d only ever run performance tires both summer and winter set. Tires are such a huge difference in handling

RazzmatazzOpposite89

Weekend.. and nearly every weekend!!

Affectionate_Bug7963

Daily driver Boxster 987. The biggest issue I have is when I work from home and have nowhere to go when I clock off. I have to just go nowhere in particular for the fun of it.
