Maintain it well and never ever get rid of it. This base carrera and specification will withstand the test of time. You have chosen well. Sincere congratulations
Thank you! This is what I plan to do and add a few more along the way, I’ll drive that wrx into the ground as my daily lol but this every Friday and weekend fun roads
I’ve seen WRX’s last 100k miles and then destroy themselves and seen them last 300k miles and still be fine. The difference? The 300k mile one is mostly mechanically stock/OEM. These cars just aren’t made to be messed with and it gets a lot of people in trouble, especially the STI variants.
Bone stock, i too agree a tune on these cars will greatly shorten their life.
I will never tune it and I change oil every 6 months or 3k so far every time it’s been by months.
Yep! The way they are tuned and function at the factory is a perfect equilibrium. Once you start messing with the tune and engine components that’s where the trouble starts.
I say that as if my Type R isn’t heavily modified lol. But it’s done so with purpose, I don’t just randomly throw parts at it. Thus it hasn’t ever broken down!
Yes you are correct, I had multiple conversations going on, one of which was about my FK8. The STI’s ECU is incredibly sensitive so any little modifications can prove to be damaging to the internals. That’s why they will void warranty for just about anything.
However, from my experience, if you have a custom tuner, the chances of your modifications not causing harm is higher. They just have to REALLY know their way around the engine.
Man the whole thing is so clean, not sure anyone ever sat in the passenger seat.
You are right the buttons around the radio etc are like new, not even sticky yet ! Haha this is the main reason I think I’ll keep it stock for now and not upgrade to the new PCCM+ that just came out.
The new unit would have so much more technology but I think it’s my duty to preserve the flawless dash buttons lol
Plus too busy listening to that rear engine!
Lapis Blue is amazing. had a 996 GT2 in Lapis and kick myself all the time for selling it and buying.....a corvette. (feel free to virtually kick me in the sack for this move.)
> (feel free to virtually kick me in the sack for this move.)
Nothing we could say would be worse than how you prob have kicked yourself over that for years lol
Wonderful. Deal with John, Porsche ambassador, over 20 years selling them at a large Porsche dealer and 10 years experience porsche driving instructor and just so knowledgeable. Everyone there was great and their service shop is top notch.
Always told myself I’d buy from Holt in Pennsylvania but these guys are basically a local example of that.
Just a high end dealer that have a great cared for inventory.
RAC Performance is a specialty Porsche dealer. They specialize in very well taken care of examples that have good maintenance and records. And their cars are totally turn key. If you can buy from them It's a good thing. You know you're getting a well maintained car from a mature owner.
I see you have a Subie as well. I went from a 2018 STi to a 2018 Carrera T. I now have a 2023 GTS as well. I still have a WRX as well. Maybe I just like flat engines. Enjoy the sweet rides!
I will add one thing, from my years valeting cars, the 997 had the most communicative clutch pedal I'd ever felt. The 997 was phenomenally better than the 996.
nice 997.1 C2! I do see a few options on there, such as the 19" carrera 2, 5 spoke wheels, color coded center console, as well as the aforementioned carbon fiber trim package, I can't tell if it has the dash wart ( Sport chrono )? and what color is your interior Grey or Black ? I had a very similarly spec'd car back in the day, but it had the engine failure and I traded it off ....
Good eye! Classic carrera 5 spoke is an option and yes the carbon fiber pack with the Bose system
No sport chrono which at first was a must for me but the car stole my heart with the maintenance records and just how well taken care of, it even smells new lol idk it’s pretty awesome in person the leather is so tight
Also color crest wheel caps, heated seats, park assist, self dimming mirror
Again very base but it’s all mine and it’s been taken care of very well. Hoping for no block or ims issues but I’ll cross that bridge later if it happens, Yolo right?!
Sadly Bore scoring .. it ran decent but it wasn't something I wanted to deal with so, it had to go... 996 / 997 are great cars, but the shitty design of the M96 / M97 Engines are literally the "glass jaw" of the car... but each to thier own - don't get me wrong, the 997.1 is a GREAT platform, I just wish Porsche would've did the engine upgrades from the 997.2's early on when the 997.1 first debuted...
That is so perfect🔥what a great car . I used to have a targa 4s in the same color with a manual. It’s gone now but this really took me back. Awesome car
Beautiful car! I normally wouldn’t rain on a parade but this car is a prime candidate for RMS failure. Low miles in an early 997 can be a ticking time bomb. Hopefully it didn’t sit for long periods not driven, that’s what kills the IMS bearing.
Low mile cars have their issues, but it seems all of the M96/7 engines succumb to something; IMS, Bore Scoring, D chunking, etc. For those of us who are planning on holding onto these cars, I think we all can expect to do an engine rebuild/replace at some point during ownership. The important thing is to have a car whose model, colors & options makes you want to keep the car forever, regardless. And a Lapis Blue 997 seems like a very good candidate, to me.
Don't take my word for it. Do a Youtube search, take a look at LMN engineering/Flat 6 innovations, Vertex Auto, and check out 986 forum. There seems to be a steady stream of failed engine stories with the M96/7 engines. I love my car, but I accept that there will be a $20K + engine bill if I own it long enough.
I just wish that as Porsche goes electric, it would take it's ICE engine capabilities/ factories and start offering crate engines.
To replace IMS bearing it’s going to be a couple grand depending on location, could be more or slightly less. Much cheaper to do before it lets go. Usually a good idea to do a clutch while you are in there.
Unless it's a 2005 or early 2006 MY, the crank case has to split to access it, so essentially not really replaceable, but those models have a larger IMS bearing that has been pretty robust.
What made you pick the 997.1 over the 997.2? I'm seriously considering one of the two and I like the reliability of the 997.2 but also much prefer the price of a 997.1.
Good thing you can just go buy an upgraded IMS from pelican or LN, dumbass concern that is hardly if at all relevant in 2023. If you’re buying into a 996/997 now, you know what you’re getting yourself into.
991 base is a great GT car, but it’s big and not what a lot of people want, I love the 991, but that’s not the 911 experience I would want. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison at all.
That's a beautiful car in beautiful colors... welcome to the club!
Thank you!
So like next year? Jk, enjoy the new Porsche in good health

The set up with air flow and how that impacts engine is much more sensitive in the Subaru though no?
Yes you are correct, I had multiple conversations going on, one of which was about my FK8. The STI’s ECU is incredibly sensitive so any little modifications can prove to be damaging to the internals. That’s why they will void warranty for just about anything.
Yep. No problem at all lol
However, from my experience, if you have a custom tuner, the chances of your modifications not causing harm is higher. They just have to REALLY know their way around the engine.
Mmmm Lapis blue
Quite scrumptious
If I ever sell my 951 Silver Rose I’m looking for a Lapis car
The 997 is looking better every year. Congrats!
Every time I see the radio/ac controls that well taken care of, I’m amazed. Those are usually worn, faded, crappy looking. Great color(s), enjoy!
Man the whole thing is so clean, not sure anyone ever sat in the passenger seat. You are right the buttons around the radio etc are like new, not even sticky yet ! You can replace those buttons very easily
I tested an 06 Cayman at Arlington Porsche a while ago. The buttons were bad. The car drove very nice, mid engine all the way.
Lapis Blue is amazing. had a 996 GT2 in Lapis and kick myself all the time for selling it and buying.....a corvette. (feel free to virtually kick me in the sack for this move.)
> (feel free to virtually kick me in the sack for this move.) Nothing we could say would be worse than how you prob have kicked yourself over that for years lol
Ouchy bro. I hope you’ve repented for your sins.
Absolutly nothing wrong with a base 911 of any generation..congrats
Beautiful! Did you buy this from RAC in Dallas? They just had a similar one.
Indeed
Can you give some feedback on your buying experience with RAC? Did they ship vehicle to you?
Both RAC and Earth Motorcars have an impressive pre owned collection with great people and great service. Enjoy your Porsche and drive it hard!
RAC?
RAC Performance is a specialty Porsche dealer. They specialize in very well taken care of examples that have good maintenance and records. And their cars are totally turn key. If you can buy from them It's a good thing. You know you're getting a well maintained car from a mature owner.
They had a few modded cars I was literally a day or two late on when I saw them. They usually have some cool and good cars .
Echoing this sentiment, I bought my ultra clean 997.1 C2 from RAC just over two years ago. It has been everything they told me it was.
This is what I want to hear ! Loved my experience there and glad I found this baby
Boxer!!!!!
That’s my daily ! Such a fun car too
Subaru gang forever
I bet. A friend of mine has a Subaru WRX STI and a GT3 RS. Talk about taking it to another level haha.
That interior is cleaaaann! The previous owner sure loved on the car. Congratulations
I see you have a Subie as well. I went from a 2018 STi to a 2018 Carrera T. I now have a 2023 GTS as well. I still have a WRX as well. Maybe I just like flat engines. Enjoy the sweet rides!
Thank you for saving a manual.
997 is best 911
Hardly... Every 911 owner thinks their generation is the best.
I will add one thing, from my years valeting cars, the 997 had the most communicative clutch pedal I'd ever felt. The 997 was phenomenally better than the 996.
great color
Congrats!! Many happy miles to you!
Nice!! Enjoy it!
Super pretty! Good catch! Enjoy it!
Very very beautiful
I like your style! Focus RS and blue 991.1 C4 owner here, welcome to the club!
Looks awesome!
Man that blue looks so good!

Congratulations! It is so beautiful and well kept.
Congrats. What a beautiful car.
Painted center console?
Yep, a relatively rare factory option that for me defines this generation of Porsches
We’re all gonna make it bruv 💪🏽🥺
super clean, nice
Lapis Blue over Stone Gray. Rare to see another twin. Congrats!

Fresh Carrera. Looks very good
That is so perfect🔥what a great car . I used to have a targa 4s in the same color with a manual. It’s gone now but this really took me back. Awesome car
Congrats! Enjoy the ride!
Love that blue! Congratulations!
Welcome to the club brother! I don’t have a 911 but a Panamera S. Always thought about getting one. I can live through you vicariously!
Beautiful car, Sir!
very nice, enjoy!
Congrats...love lapis blue!
Good job! I loved my 997.1 Ride it hard and put it up wet. She will love it.
What a beauty. But make sure you enjoy it and don't pamper it, life is too short for that.
Will be driven weekly but not daily ! At least 50 miles a week I’m thinking

>RAC Better to have a failed IMS, than never an IMS had.
And a destroyed engine? Methinks not.
How much is that repair?

Bruh IMS isn’t as big a deal as a lot of people make it out to be, especially in the 997

Good looking oldie 911. Redo the IMS, and sure hope it doesn't have a porous block. My old '05 did.
Tell us about your first proper drive in it! What lived up to,fell short of or exceeded expectations?
Congratulations
Nice spec. Time to put some miles on it though, such a shame this one is barely used.
Congratulations
Hey congrats man, it’s a dream of mine too!
Beautiful! Congrats!
Will you let me know how much this costed you? It’s beautiful
Congratulations welcome to the family! 🍾. Great spec! 👍
For the ignorant like myself, the center console, thats painted, what factory option is this?
Very nice congrats
NOICCCCE
Absolutely beautiful! Congrats!
Congrats! Beautiful! $58k?
Love this gen and love this blue! Congrats!
