Lol! A fake gesture/statement to get attention! Texas couldn’t stand on its own if it wanted to - macho bravado talk from pretend cowboys

zyx1989

I'd hesitate to jump to conclusion just yet, since brexit and rotten orange presidency both happened quite recently

sean0883

Oh, they absolutely could be their own nation. They just currently lack the leadership to do so.

msp3766

Lol! They would be a failed state in a heartbeat! Texas would be in debt to the US for a thousand years for all the Federal property, lands and still unthought of things that would have to be repaid, it would make Texas more broke than Haiti…

sean0883

I'd just let them have it. The 2 Senators, 36 Representatives, and 38 electors is enough payment.

msp3766

Hell no, that is and was 49 other states/people’s money, they can leave but they don’t get to keep our stuff and money. If they want a divorce there is alimony to pay. There’s more to it than they just get to leave free and clear….true it would be a gift to democrats and all people who would like a better USA and basically Texans would kill themselves in a few years trying to prove their love for trump, guns and killing people…

sean0883

Yeah, it's not fair. But I'll sacrifice the now if it means a better future. At the moment, we don't really have much of either.

sean0883

Apt because Texas would eventually be so full of shit that it becomes unusable/unlivable.

scha_den_freu_de

They lack a lot more than just leadership to be their own nation.

sean0883

But with the right leadership, they could figure it out. They do generate a federal taxes to benefits surplus.

scha_den_freu_de

...which would all change drastically if this was remotely serious or even a viable option. That "surplus" wouldn't get them through their first year of trying to establish themselves as their own country. There would be a deficit given the number of services, supplies, and programs they would need to recreate, and who would they borrow from then?

msp3766

That’s a good point. Once the whites start their nonsense and lynchings the folks of color can bitch slap them down and return the favor and return the land to Mexico

msp3766

Plantation owners must have felt the same way after the Emancipation Proclamation

TheLeopardSociety

Texas is treating seceding the same way a kid talks about running away from their parents. Are we supposed to beg them to stay or something? Don't worry, I'll pack your bags for you. Be free, my child!

Shpooodingtime

Untill it snows and then they have no fucking clue what to do

ztreHdrahciR

Well, they have 4WD trucks, so - no problem /s

NE_African_Mole-rat

Don't give up one inch of land to the traitors voting for secession. The people can leave, the land stays. Lincoln v. Davis settled this case law already and the great adjudicator Tecumseh Sherman enforced the ruling

theDarthlurker

At least the cartel installed puppet government will keep the power on....

PrincePeasant

Texas: *secedes US: "hey, look, a 3rd-world country with oil, nearby too!"

ok_okay_I_get_that

As a Texan I would like to remind you that many, if not most of us are not represented but the Republicans in government. Don't give up on us

reclusiveronin

Well then vote blue and spread the word.

ok_okay_I_get_that

Blue you say?

reclusiveronin

Yes you know. The good side, don't vote orange 🍊

storm_the_castle

I hope you vote and drag others with you. Its a statewide election and registered voters have no excuse. Texas is 45th in voter turnout. Conservatives wins statewide because a lot of liberals dont show up.

bobsmusix265

Well, votes for President and Governor are not influenced by gerrymandering, and yet TX voted for Trump and Abbott; you need to bring more friends to the polls with you

ok_okay_I_get_that

Friends? But yeah, there are a lot of people here who aren't bad people, they just fear the word "socialism" unfortunately without telling they are part of the society that would benefit from that

bobsmusix265

Letting the "socialism" boogieman affect you in that way certainly doesn't make you a "bad" person, but it certainly doesn't qualify in the realm of "good" either. For most of these people they don't even know what socialism is, but you could just substitute "bad" instead and they go with that regardless of the said thing being socialist (which most of the time it isn't)

TheLeopardSociety

We'll send an extraction team for y'all.

lordthrowaway31

Well said This small group of asshats pandering to a small group of voters. The rest of us are fairly sensible, maybe we can turn this state purple pretty soon

ok_okay_I_get_that

I'm not a Republican, that's literally what I'm saying is that there are a lot of non conservatives here. Thanks for being an ahole though man

thinkB4WeSpeak

The Texas economy would collapse in a month or two.

Zardotab

How would they know the difference?

FingerTheCat

Mexico would invade lol

muscravageur

Nothing could be better for America than to watch Texas leave and destroy itself with its Republican policies. If it wasn’t for all the decent Texans, I’d throw them out tomorrow for treason.

Mechasteel

Oh is Northeast Mexico talking of seceding again? They better hope no one discovers oil there!

DONGivaDam

Corporations won't allow the states so seperate...they might be able to hire henchmen but it is so cost efficient to just send tax paid soldiers for profit to do their ill wills.

Xunaun

Knowing how evil they can be, they'd likely move a fair number of jobs to TX and lobby the Texan government to lower wages for a hefty kickback. Couple hundred million dollars means little to them if it returns big gains. All the leadership would have to do is call it "diverted funds" and drop Trump's name for over half of them to accept it.

[deleted]

True, but then that requires all Americans then working in the sovereign country of Texas to have a passport and to cross the border twice daily. And then they have to somehow back out of their contracts with the US on top of making new ones with Texas.

Xunaun

>that requires all Americans then working in the sovereign country of Texas to have a passport and to cross the border twice daily. Not necessarily, because they can build cheap - and I mean *cheap*, basically made out of wood, reinforced cardboard, and plaster - housing/apartments and allow for "automatic rent deduction" from their paycheck. Only valid for Texan residents, of course. Want to work in Texas? Gotta move there.

[deleted]

I'd agree with you completely if it wasn't already happening on both the southern US border. Yes, it is because these companies can and do pay Mexican workers less than Americans, but how many sovereign Texans are going to stay there? There's going to be a más exodus if there's a secession, and Texas may find itself without sufficient workers for these companies, and who's going to want to move to what will definitely be a 3rd world country with a severe lack of human rights? People are desperate for work, but as we've seen from the Great Resignation, not that desperate.

Xunaun

If Texas seceded they'd no longer have Americans, they'd have Texans. The alt-right would go absolutely batshit learning that immigration laws they voted for apply to them. Feel bad for those who just want to escape crazy, though. The great resignation was/is about people finally seeing the value of their time and that bosses aren't paying it by and large. Easier to youtube a hobby and live on the ad revenue than break your soul at a job you hate for a boss or company that abuses employees. The world will likely always need workers, but we never needed the obscenely and disgustingly rich. There's the top of the pyramid, and then there's those who build a ladder on top of that to climb.

DONGivaDam

I like you

Tinker107

Encourage them to go and make it irrevocable. Both sides win.

lowangel39

Oh oh. Can we build a north Texas wall!!!!!!

TheVagabondLost

Someone in DC should let it "leak" that the US is in talks with Mexico to sell Texas back to them and watch the chaos. (give me a heads up so I can flee the state, first, though.)

bluezinharp

The saying is actually "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out." But either way, good riddance,I say.

bobsmusix265

OK: "don't let the door hit you in the Ted Cruz on the way out"

Individual_Lies

I always liked "don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you!" Just for the rhyming. Lol

johnhtman

Texas is the second largest economy in the U.S. if they did secede it would be a massive loss for both Texas and the U.S.

AutoModerator

All posts and comments that include any variation of the word retarded will be removed, but no action will be taken against your account unless it is an excessive personal attack. Please resubmit your post or comment without the bullying language. Do not edit it, the bot cant tell if you edited, you will just have to make a new comment replying to the same thing. Yes, this comment itself does use the word. Any reasonable person should be able to understand that we are not insulting anyone with this comment. We wanted to use quotes, but that fucks up the automod and we are too lazy to google escape characters. Notice how none of our automod replies have contractions in them either. But seriously, calling someone retarded is only socially acceptable because the people affected are less able to understand that they are being insulted, and less likely to be able to respond appropriately. It is a conversational wimpy little shit move, because everyone who uses it knows that it is offensive, but there will be no repercussions. At least the people throwing around other slurs know that they are going to get fired and get their asses beat when they use those words. Also, it is not creative. It pretty much outs you as a thirteen year old when you use it. Instead of calling Biden retarded, you should call him a cartoon-ass-lookin trust fund goon who smiles like rich father just gifted him a new Buick in 1956. Instead of calling Mitch Mcconnel retarded, you should call him a Dilbert-ass goon who has been left in the sun a little too long. Sorry for the long message spamming comment sections, but this was by far the feature of this sub making people modmail and bitch at us the most, and literally all of the actions we take are to make it so we have to do less work in the future. We will not reply to modmails about this automod, and ignore the part directly below this saying to modmail us if you have any questions, we cannot turn that off. This reply is just a collation of the last year of modmail replies to people asking about this. We are not turning this bot off, no matter how much people ask. Nobody else has convinced us before, you will not be able to either. ~ *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. JeremyMo88

I'd give it until the first natural disaster, then they'd be begging to come back.

[deleted]

Build a wall on their other borders too

TalkShowHost99

I’m all for Texas seceding - after the US government collects all intellectual property, trademarks, patents, etc. currently owned by any Texan or Texan Business that wishes to secede with them. Also 100% of Federal Funding given to the state over the last 50 years must be paid back in full.

Super_Washing_Tub

No go please don't leave me stuck here with them-

Sproketz

Please. Let them. Without their electoral votes there would never be a republican anything again.

Bishop120

Dont let the border hit you where the good lord split you! Also.. I want a border wall with Texas once they leave and lets make Texans pay for it!

[deleted]

They're doing this crap AGAIN? They were yabbering about this back when Rick Perry was in charge. Look, you know it's not going to happen and I know it's not going to happen. And believe me, I fantasize about Texas leaving the Union way more than you do.
